I’ve been a fan of the Century Guild press and its proprietor Thomas Negovan since I bought my first Grand Guignol poster from Thomas back in the early 00s. The press produces beautiful limited edition art books.

Spell Bound is a thin volume about witchy paperbacks from the mid-Twentieth Century, with cover reproductions and explanatory text, basically a scrapbook for those of us who miss the sexy sorcery of yesterday.

The material is well presented, with some familiar covers and many others new to me. Of course, now I’d like to read the books themselves but, at least here, there are no more paperback swap stores where they might turn up, Half Price Books is a joke, and eBay prices are terrifying.

Everything I love in a book: vintage book covers and occultism. I fear I will develop a need to collect the novels mentioned in this book.
