Ms Nevaril shows you how to examine a traditional block and break down to the core elements, change the block way to make a different style and look to the block. Adding and subtracting elements, value and color placement results in changing the blocks to develop different and exciting quilt top styles. I would love to see the results of these projects.

Traditional blocks used in the book:
Carpenter Wheels
Double NINE Patches
54-40 or Right
Hovering Hawks
Priscilla's Dreams
Arrow Head
Bear Paw
Diamond Star
Game Cocks
Weather Vane

What was disappointing with this book was that the redesign blocks were put into boring, mundane settings with little or no imagination. That said, the quilts I liked best had the blocks floating in a field of white. Those were some sharp quilts.

I like the book and would recommend it to someone who wants to design and make different looking quilts. Someone who wants to play with designing and get their feet wet. I found some lovely quilt blocks that made interesting, different but lovely looking quilt tops.
