I am not sure who provided more drama this time, the cats or the humans.

Another day, another pianist with emotional trauma needs a cat with its own emotional trauma.
It's a good thing this creator does this one story so well, since it is the only story he seems to know how to tell.
I accidentally read this volume out of order, skipping it and reading volume 11 first. That didn't affect the flow of the series one little bit since it's just the same story over and over and over again.

Is this the most uplifting and heartwarming series ever created? It just might be.
Mr. Kanda is a polite and caring old man who recently lost his beloved wife and he’s been trapped in a state of perpetual grieving ever since. Fukumaru is an oddly shaped cat who lost his mother and siblings and no one seems to want to give him a home. They’re both all alone in the world and they feel abandoned and unloved. They haven’t smiled or felt a sense of purpose in a long time. When they cross paths at a local pet shop one fateful day, the lonely old man adopts the unwanted cat and they quickly begin to fill the painful void in each other’s lives.
Warm and cozy enough to melt the ice off the coldest of hearts. I’m admittedly a sucker when it comes to sappy tearjerker animal stories, so my high rating might be a little biased in that regard. This one definitely punched me in the gut with sheer wholesomeness and made me teary eyed more than once throughout the series.
The protagonist is a very lovable old man with great manners, always dresses in an elegant suit, plays piano and treats everyone around him with fatherly compassion and respect. His bond with his new cat companion really pulls on the heart strings. The first few volumes of the series take the form of very short stories depicting a day from their casual lives together which usually ends on a funny or wholesome moment. It occasionally shows figments of their tragic pasts which ties back to a happy resolution in the present. The later volumes are much more detailed and fleshed out with side characters that support each other in really moving ways through hard times.
The author truly captures the odd behavior, expressions of affection and the funny routines that most cats develop once they get comfortable in your home. The story does a good job portraying how animals deal with abandonment issues and trauma after being neglected and it shows how they can overcome those issues through bonding with a loyal and caring owner little by little. The internal dialogue for the animals is just the icing on the cake.
As someone that’s had very close friendships with pet cats and dogs during difficult times in my life, I couldn’t help but love this series.

One of my favorite volumes so far. A lot of very deep emotions and self-reflection in this volume. I think what I like about this series so much is that it is primarily men sharing their emotions with other men.

Rasanya sudah lama sekali tidak membaca A Man & His Cat, 8 bulan berselang setalah volume ke-9 kubaca pada januari. Apalah daya memang di jepang sendiri jarak antar volume manga ini terbitnya juga berjauhan, dan syukurnya edisi Indonesia bisa menyusul dengan tempo yang bagus, jadi tidak terlalu jauh tertinggal.
Dalam jilid ini, kita dibawa pada konflik di akhir buku 8 yang mana Kanda, Teruaki dan pemilik cafe mencoba menolong kucing yang terkunci dalam apartemen yang penuh tumpukan sampah. Setelahnya kucing itu dievakuasi ke rumah Kanda (Rumah papa Kanda jadi banyak kucing miaw) dan mempertemukan Teruaki dengan pianis lainnya yakni Hibino juga Geoffroy. Apakah Teruaki bisa bermain piano di depan mereka?
Pertemuan dengan Kanda langsung membawa luka lama dalam diri Teruaki, akan kejahatan yang ia lakukan pada anak Kanda, Hoshinari. Aku terenyuh bagaimana perbuatan jahat dan enggannya Teruaki meminta maaf di masa lalu seolah menjadi karma buruk pada Teruaki yang saat ini gagal dalam membina karir bermusiknya dan bahkan membuatnya trauma pada piano.
Di samping itu, kisah para kucing di rumah Kanda juga sangat menghibur, selain tingkah lucu mereka, Umi Sakurai turut menyampaikan nilai-nilai yang bisa menorehkan makna untuk senantiasa sabar dan melapangkan hati. Baik kisah para manusia maupun kucing tetap memberikan pengajaran baik yang bisa dipetik pembaca.
A Man & His Cat sungguh jadi manga favoritku saat ini.
Dan walau kini Teruaki dapat bermain piano kembali, dapatkah membuat dirinya bisa dimaafkan oleh Hoshinari? Aku sangat menantikan kelanjutannya.

Me gustó mucho que el chico que una vez fue amigo del hijo de Kanda, por fin entiende que hizo mal al querer acercarse a Kanda a través de quien una vez lo consideró su amigo verdadero.
Al mismo tiempo, Kanda y compañía rescatan a un gatito que estaba muy mal cuidado por su dueño. El pequeñito tiene signos de maltrato y no confía en los humanos, pero curiosamente, cuando el joven prodigio se acerca a él para ofrecerle comida, la acepta.
Entonces es como tener a un par de almas que han sido heridas y que, a través de la música y de la compañía, han superado este bache en sus vidas y comienzan su proceso de sanación.
Además me dio mucha risa como Fukumaru se quiere pelear con el gatito (porque es un callejero y está harto de nuevos gatos en su hogar) pero después los vemos durmiendo juntos. Típico de gatos, lol.

This just jumps right into where they left off in book 9, i was confused for a second on why we were running and going into this random apartment building. this hoarder has been keeping a cat, barely taking care of the cat, and now he's gone. the cat has been alone for days and is freaking out. Kanda is very worried about the cat and is very determined to clean up and get the cat out of there. Kuju is helping Kanda and once the cat is caught, Kuju is told to take it back to Kanda's house but that scares him too much since him and Kanda's kid have issues. The cat is also freaking the fuck out, and once Fukumaru sees the cat, they start fighting! Fukumaru is fed up with sharing Kanda and adding one more kitten is too much, so Kuju takes the new cat home.

Oh Gott, dieser Band hat mir wieder richtig gut gefallen 🥹
Die Geschichte um die kleine Siam hat mir so das Herz gebrochen (ich musste erstmal meine eigenen Katzen kuscheln) und ich habe sie bereits jetzt total ins Herz geschlossen.
Natürlich sind unsere Herren wieder Feuer und Flamme für all die Kitties und schießen dabei voll übers Ziel hinaus 😅
Naja, dafür lieben wir sie ja.

I'm so happy to be reading the next in the series. This time Kanda and his friend rescue a cat from a dilapidated building. However, Fukumaru is not liking the new cat and they are fighting each other. Will the cats get along? Love the graphics and the story. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Diese Reihe ist einfach meine große Liebe und ich will gar nicht daran denken, dass ich nur noch zwei Bände vor mir habe. Ich liebe einfach alles daran und klar, es ist irgendwann alles erzählt, aber ich könnte mir diese Katzengeschichten hundert Bände lang geben. 💜

Diesmal war es wie immer super und auch endet immer alles positiv, aber die kleine Katze, die 5 Tage alleine in einer Messibude war, weil der Besitzer einfach abgehauen ist, war shcon ziemlich hart ;_; manche Menschen haben echt eins in die Fresse verdient.

Es lindísimo. Leer esta historia de vez en cuando es como si te dieran un abrazo cálido.
Siempre hay un poquito de drama y tristeza pero los gatitos lo arreglan. El siamés 🥺

Another amazing volume in a fabulous series. This one had me tear up as Kanda and His former pupil save a Stray kitten. There's so much emotion in this volume as we get more backstory from Kuju. I can't wait for volume 11.

Hoy os vengo hablar de Fukumaru el gatito que me robo el corazón, en estos cómics vamos a encontrar la vida de día a día de Fukumaru un gatito que nadie quería (tengo mas post de todos sus anteriores cómics)
Y tenemos a Kanda el dueño o papa de Fukumaru, que la verdad que es un personaje que en cada día comics me sorprende para bien, como su amor por los gatos es cada día mas fuerte
En este cómics tenemos el tema principal que lo dice el escritor ‘La búsqueda de la felicidad ‘
Aqui tenemos a Masoto (que os digo la verdad: siempre me lio con los nombres y se los cambio 🤪) que va con Kanda en busca de un gatito que ae enteran que esta abandonado y solo en un piso y que esta viviendo en condiciones nada buenas, que esta desnutrido y muy asustado y que con la paciencia ellos pueden capturarlo y llevarlo a cuidar, que el pobre gatito ya vivió el abandono que es lo peor que los animales pueden vivir 😭
El gatito es llevado a casa de Kanda para que se alimente y este un poco cuidado. Pero como lo tomará Fukumaru?
También tenemos los amigos de Kanda que estan ayudando siempre con el cuidado de los gatitos y demostrar el amor por los gatitos.
El gatito podrá afrontar estar rodeados de mas gatos? Después de vivir solo? Podrá afrontar otro abandono? Se quedaran con el?
Yo la verdad que estoy encantada con esta historia y empezar el mes con esta lectura me vino fenomenal ya que después de unos meses de trabajo y mucho estrés este verano, empezar septiembre me vino genial para despejarme 🤩

I missed a volume (not just to review, but for my collection), but luckily the series is relatively loose continuity in the sense of "plot" is not so heavily interconnected that a complete newcomer to this series would be lost about what's happening.
Summary: Elderly man has cat, and also a number of rival pianists who ALSO have cats, and they all hang out sometimes.
...that's it. That's the major backstory.
The series has developed a little from when it was mostly single-page or very short gag comics (though there are several of those in this one, too), and any nitpicky details that a newcomer (or longtime reader with short memory) might need to know are summarised at the beginning.
I might have given this only four stars but I just HAD to round up for two reasons:
- the :D
- the prank where Kanda puts his finger in Fukumaru's mouth after Fukumaru yawns... I thought I made that up!! :O Amazing!
Recommended for cat lovers! (although the part about rescuing Siam is a little hard on the emotions *cry*)

This manga can be repetitive at times. An unwanted or abandoned cat finds a loving home. Long-standing conflicts between humans are brought to a state of harmony by talking things out.
They get me every time, though! Each volume of this manga warms my cold and stony heart.
Some readers are unconvinced a story can be cozy if anything bad happens to the characters. I disagree, not to the point that I think Bad Stuff must exist in a cozy, but that, if it exists, it's resolved in a way that doesn't jeopardize the bonds between the core cast of characters. It is even explicitly stated early on in this volume that "[r]eality doesn't always have a happy ending." That's been implied throughout this series, especially when it comes to the cats.
Kuju and Hoshinari will reconcile, it's only a matter of when and how. :)
I read the Square Enix edition of this volume translated into English.

I wish the story had more time to marinate before everything started unfolding so quickly. There are still moments I enjoy in this volume, but the pacing feels off—like when Kanda suddenly pours out all his worries to a kid he barely knows. It just doesn’t feel natural, and I’m finding myself increasingly frustrated. When Kuju was introduced, it was pretty clear where things were going, so now I’m just hoping that the upcoming events are handled better. It’s hard to stay connected when it feels like the author is forcing the narrative rather than letting it flow organically. A little more subtlety would make a big difference!

Short but sweet
I absolutely love this series! There's always something that I have to share with my other cat loving friends. Packed full of moments any cat parent would recognize and think to themselves that's right with a chuckle. Add to that the beautiful heart each character has inside and the very human experience wrapped in the story and it makes for a beautiful wonderful experience. An easy read, sort of a bubble bath for the soul.

I don't know why but I like Kuju and his introduction to the series. I really hope things with Hoshinari will work out. Mr Kanda is amazing and sweet like always. Fukumaru is equally amazing and sweet. I even like the introduction of a new cat that isn't part of Fukumaru's family. The fact that they don't really get along yet but still Fukumaru helps him stay is great.

When his former student and his son's childhood friend comes in to the cat café where he was working, Mr. Kanda finds himself trying to save an abandoned cat in an apartment full of trash and takes the creature in temporarily. This stresses out Fukumaru to the point that he throws up, but he toughs it out for his owner.
For a good little guy, Fukumaru's got a heart as big as the universe, so adorable! I'm looking forward to Kuju and Hoshinari making up.

I am definitely hooked on this series and have enjoyed them all so far, although this volume was not a favorite. Very good, but not the best. It was more about the younger characters, student Kuju's struggles with his insecurities, and didn't give me enough Kanda and Fukumaru--hey, I'm addicted. It did introduce a new cat into the menagerie in Kanda's house and the difficulties that adjustment presented for Fukumaru. Will love and courage win out in the end?

While one can argue this whole book's theme has been about broken pets and people healing each other, this volume hit especially hard to me. While the formula is familiar, the execution was different enough to truly give this volume a higher rating then the previous few. Umi Sakurai is really onto something and has continued to create meaningful volumes of this true "slice of life and hope" book.
