The moon sat a slither of its glory, dull in its shine, leaving the waters an endless void of darkness below us and the nearly starless skies a cloak of cover. Sparse clouds, thin and stringy, cast of grey fog over that crescent of the moon, as though to tell of the dangers lurking in the water this night.

She was the first ray of sun splitting the storm. The songbird that woke the morning and signalled its approach.
