Much to his family's displeasure, Michael Hartford pens popular Western paperbacks. But despite his cowboy image, he's more Central Park West than Wild West. After a girl-fight scandal, socialite-turned-housekeeper Keri Fitzpatrick is cheerily unrepentant as she waits for the dust to settle. It's not long before she discovers Michael's secret and a whole lot of similarities…including an irresistible temptation to play Naughty Naked Cowboy!
But does this scrappy socialite have what it takes to ensure her would-be cowboy is both saddle sore and satisfied?
New York Times and USA Today bestseller Vicki Lewis Thompson believes love makes the world go around and laughter makes the trip worth taking. The recipient of RWA’s Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award and the author of more than ninety books, Vicki pioneered a new kind of romance hero with Nerd in Shining Armor. Following the success of her nerd stories, Vicki launched a boisterous paranormal series featuring a matchmaking witch and wizard, an ADD dragon named George, and a black cat inspired by her own precocious feline, Eve.
A romantic story with Keri, who works and lives at the Chance ranch, and Jim Ford, author of cowboy books (aka Michael). He is visiting the ranch to learn how to be a cowboy - especially how to ride a horse. There's heaps of sex between the two of them, which are quite graphic, as there usually are with this author. I really love this author's style of writing. An enjoyable and entertaining read with a HEA. 5☆
Here, the main character is an author of westerns with romance. This is a perfect set-up for a story because if he can write romance then he should be great in bed. (Tee Hee!) In fact, Michael ends up being so motivated from his relationship with Keri, he writes an additional heated love scene. The chemistry between the characters works well because of the threads of commonalities that they share and the direction that their lives are moving.
The Heart Won't Lie is the 12th book in the Sons of Chance series by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I love reading this series. Michael Hartford is an author under the name Jim Ford writing about the Wild West, but in reality he is a man from a wealthy family, and no one knows the real him. But now he has to learn how to be a cowboy for a video for his fans. He goes to the Last Chance Ranch to learn to a cowboy that his fans believe him to be. Keri Fitzpatrick has been the housekeeper for the Last Chance Ranch for the last year, but she is also from a wealthy family. She came to the Last Chance Ranch to let the dust settle after a scandal back in Baltimore and to get an experience of being on a ranch. When Michael and Keri first meet there are instant sparks. Michael is only there a week and they make the most of it, and when Keri finds out he is the really the author Jim Ford, she is stunned and but helps him, umm in the bedroom.;). As the week goes by, they are closer and have fallen in love.
The Heart Won't Lie was another treat to read, its always hilarious when the Chance's sons are around especially Jack, what a riot. Can't wait to read the next one Cowboys & Angels and any other book that comes out in this series.
Michael Hartford is popular Western writer under the name Jim Ford. He's been tasked to prove that his cowboy skills are real. Hence the reason he's at Last Chance Ranch to learn everything there is to know about being a cowboy. Keri Fitzpatrick has been living at Last Chance Ranch for over a year since a scandal forced to her leave Baltimore. Keri relishes the experience the ranch as given her. For Keri, Michael is temptation in an attractive package. Michael discovers that writing about cowboy lifestyle is very different from experiencing it first hand. Will Michael's attraction to Keri be mutual? Will Michael listen to Keri's suggestions? Can Keri believe Michael wants what she wants? Your answers await you in The Heart Won't Lie.
The Sons of Chance Series never fails to meet my need for smokin' hot cowboy finding the love of his life. The characters are real, down to earth, interesting, special, honest, and hopeful. The story is true joy to read from first page to last page. This author is on my must read and buy list.
The Heart Won't Lie is a VERY VERY GOOD BOOK. I've read the last three books in the Chance Series. These three and one more book go together. Can't wait to read the next book. Author Jim Ford writes Wild West books. He has never been on a horse. His read name is Michael Hartford. Michael goes undercover to The Chance Ranch. to learn everything he can about being a Real Cowboy. He is going to be making a video, and needs to know how to be a cowboy. Soooo many funny things happen to him while he is there. He meets the housekeeper, Keri. She also comes from a rich family. She is at the ranch to lay low because of something that happened to her a few months ago. The chemistry is there between Michael and Keri right from the first time they met. A romance happens in the short week they are together. A very good read.

Love love love this series! Can't believe I have read all 12 books in it but I have (I think...not the ebooks but all the paperbacks)! They just keep getting better and better each time. I really enjoyed this one because it dealt with a writer and I am a writer. Was fun too to think of the author using her own experiences as a writer to create the main male character. As usual the sex was off the charts great and I felt the whole gambit of emotions while reading this page turner. I read it in one day, which is also typical. I just can't get enough of this author's work and this book adds to that nicely. HIGHLY recommend to any fan of contemporary romance genre. Can't wait for the new full-length, holiday story to come out in November!
What i loooove about the Sons of Chance series is that I always feel like i'm home while I'm reading and somehow i belong to that family. After 12 books, I find myself knowing in advance how one of the characters that i already know will react to a situation. And even if the two main roles on the book change, you get to follow the advance made on the other characters.
For everyone that reads this series this is a very important book, because of Sarah's wedding. It made me cry, damn it.
The book is awesome. It has that kind of love story that Vicky always describes, but i find this one of my favorites of all them.
If you love a good love story, i guess this series is the deal for you, well, it was for me.

I can't believe I'm the first of my group of goodreads friends to read this. I know so.etime we tend to give up on long series and complain that others are not long enough. But this is one of Vicki Lewis Thompson's best chic lit series. Not only does it follow the Chance Brother's, it follows the circle of friends that surrounds the brother's on the Second Chance Ranch. Save a horse ride a strong loving cowboy!
If you like modern Western love stories, you'll go for this hot little tale about Michael Hartford, aka Jim Ford, a writer, and Keri Fitzpatrick, housekeepr at the Last Chance ranch.
Michael goes there to learn how to be a cowboy for a PR video planned by his publisher. Learning to ride a horse isn't all he decides to do after meeting Keri. But losing his heart to her isn't in his plans. Too bad he couldn't stay on the cutting horse, either.
"Thompson does another stellar job weaving new characters and life into the wide fabric of the long-lasting Sons of Chance series. Seeing these two likable outsiders learn to adapt adds a fresh element to the series, and their sex scenes are creative and fun." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars
Just like all the Sons of Chance books. I love this one too. I never get tired of them. Jack will always be my favorite and always says things that continues to make me laugh. Sorry reviews is very late but better late than never. If you haven't read it please do and all the rest. You'd be missing a great series's.
