Another fantastic psychological thriller from Abby! Her writing is extremely addictive and I don't think I breathed during the last 30% of this book. The tension and creep factor were brilliant!

The story kicked off straight away and transported you along at a fast pace. I really felt trapped in that room with the MC. I definitely had Misery vibes but I actually preferred this one!

Mikey was an intriguing character. On the one hand, he had severe psychological issues due to his Nana's treatment but also was portrayed as a bad guy so it was difficult to really connect with him.

Nana on the other hand...she made my blood boil! At one point I was so infuriated I had to take a reading break 🤣

My only small negative was the ending was over in a blink of an eye. As in, I wish there was more in the aftermath. Also, one thing that happened seemed a bit...far fetched.

But overall a fantastic thriller. Unputdownable!

Definitely got some Misery by Stephen King vibes with this one! Anytime I want an actual Psychological Thriller I have to turn to the indie authors! Anytime a popular instagram book/author says it’s a Psy. Thriller there’s a 98 percent chance it’s not. This gets ya out of your comfort zone. Loved the story, twists and turns and all those uncomfortable moments throughout. Easy five stars!!

I absolutely flew through this! While there weren’t any huge surprises except at the end, this book was pacy with fascinating characters and a FMC you just have to root for. Another incredible book by Abby Davies!

I feel like I didn't fully breathe out from the first to the last page! This book was phenomenal, the tension perfect. I suggest grabbing your favourite drink and settling in for a one sitting read, you won't want to put it down.

Having read the author's third novel Arrietty earlier this summer I could not wait to pick up her next book. With an ARC copy kindly given in exchange for my honest review I couldn't wait to dive in.

We follow Rachel who wakes after being kidnapped by a fan of her character on a medical drama. This book had everything I could have wanted and was the perfect thriller for an autumn read.

With links made to Stephen King's misery this book took an original path that I did not see coming.

I am so excited for publication day to get my hands on a physical copy of this beautiful cover too.

I enjoyed the first 50% of this book, it was well written and engaging. The characters were believable and it was nail biting in parts.

Then it started to go downhill for me. There were long passages of repetitious internal monologue from the FMC, some of it could’ve quite easily been cut down and the story wouldn’t have suffered. Add to this some editing issues (one second she was looking down in wonder at her uncuffed hands and then ‘it was hard work with my hands cuffed’… huh?!), some unbelievable scenes (doing star jumps and running on the spot when handcuffed to a bed just doesn’t seem realistic), and some strange turns of phase (eg ‘silence swooped down again, heavy and toxic as a nuclear bomb’… errr… what now?).

It’s a real shame because the story started off so well, I had really high hopes.

Rounding up to 3 for Goodreads, which is pulled up by the better first half.

"Her No. 1 Fan" by Abby Davies is a literary journey that I won't soon forget. Right from the first page, I was completely gripped by the narrative, and the story's power to draw me in was nothing short of mesmerizing.

What sets this book apart is its ability to make you feel as though you are right alongside Rachel, experiencing every moment of her harrowing journey. The writing is so immersive that it becomes an uncomfortable read in the best way possible, forcing you to confront the depths of Rachel's emotions.

The story's darkness is sickeningly twisted, and I found myself constantly on edge, my heart in my mouth as I turned the pages. The suspense is masterfully crafted, making it impossible to put the book down.

Christmas will never be the same again after reading this book. It weaves the holiday into a narrative that's both haunting and unforgettable, leaving a lasting impact.

One of the book's greatest strengths is its portrayal of toxic family dynamics. Davies skillfully delves into this complex issue, making you reflect on the relationships in your own life.

Mikey, one of the central characters, is a true masterpiece of villainy. His character is so well-crafted that he genuinely made me feel physically ill at times. The shocking twists and turns throughout the story are reminiscent of the great Stephen King's work, particularly his masterpiece "Misery."

"Her No. 1 Fan" is a dark, disturbing, and profoundly unsettling tale that gives you chills like a Black Mirror episode. It's a narrative that lingers in your thoughts long after you've closed the book.

If you're a fan of suspenseful reads that delve into the darkest corners of the human psyche, this book is an absolute must-read. And the icing on the cake? It's currently available to read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Dive in and prepare for a literary experience that will leave you breathless.

3.5 stars for this one. I enjoyed it but it ended too quickly!

I’ve always been a great fan of Abby Davies so I was thrilled to be involved in this one.

There is no easing into this one - the action starts right from the get go. Kidnap, abduction and imprisonment and you’re going through it all with Rachel.

What I liked was the manipulation of Nana towards Mikey, who, at the receiving end of her cruelty for years and years, finds it difficult to distinguish between reality and fiction.

This definitely gave me misery vibes and the remote location gave it all a claustrophobic feel. In addition to this, Rachel also had to find the best way to deal with a sociopath and a man who has the mental age of a child - which was the age he was when he was first abused.

A quick read and a surprising ending, another good book from Abby!

This was the first book I've read by @abbydaviesauthor & I can not wait to read more.

Her No.1 fan was a fabulous gripping psychological thriller that had me holding my breath and on the edge of my seat. This was the perfect book for the spooky month ahead.

The characterization is fantastic. Each character was well crafted. Rachel's character had me guessing for a while what her career was, but it all made sense when all was revealed. Mikey was really intriguing. Despite the bad he was doing, I felt so sorry for him. As for Ethel, well, she was just plain awful, such an evil character.

I definitely felt the tension and the super dark creepy vibes coming at me throughout the narrative. The writing was really immersive, and I felt exactly what Rachel was feeling. It takes a great author to be able to really draw the readers in.

Do you need a book for Halloween? Then I'd recommend delving into this one. Especially if you're a fan of dark and twisted storylines, disturbing family dynamics & the added mystery.

Wow I love a good psychology thriller and this certainly lives upto that!

Rachel is an actress in ‘emergency’ she plays a doctor, little does she know that a fan has decided he needs her more than her husband does.
This book holds no punches, straight into the storyline and the creepiest ‘nana’ I’ve comes across.

I spent most of the book wanted to read more but not wanting to read more 😂 almost reading from behind a cushion or through fingers.

In the acknowledgments the author says they took inspiration from Stephen Kings Misery, but it certainly holds its own against SK’s book.

Loved it ❤️ a great autumn thriller read.
I’ll be avoiding men In Christmas jumpers from now on.

Thanks to @instabooktours and @abbydaviesauthor for allowing me to be part of the book tour.

A fantastic representation of this genre. Fast paced and filled with tension and suspense (I mean just as in similar books we know who comes out on top...but still). Very atmospheric and chilling with 2 very creepy characters whom I could practically smell! Mikey was someone who elicited horror and disgust yet at times I wanted to wrap him up in bubbles and carry him to safety, away from evil influence. I was rooting for Rachel all the way and loved her plucky spirit and determination. I visualized this story as it unfolded and it had such an air of authenticity within the confines of the storyworld the author created. No padding, just unrelenting unease . Would make a great movie!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Three words to start off this review….OH MY GOD! It’s very obvious as stated in the acknowledgments that this book is inspired by Stephen King’s Misery. It was ALL KINDS OF CRAZY!!!! Mikey was very disturbed and “mental” but Ethel…that old hag was on a whole other level! Seriously, the devil inside an old lady!! I don’t even know what else to say except if you enjoy really disturbing books with absolutely insane characters. then you’ll definitley want to read this one! Also, there was a big twist at the end that I didn’t see coming at all! I will admit it was a bit far fetched but for sure a shocker. I will definitely look up other books by this author.

This took me a while to get into. I really wanted to stop reading, and I'm glad I didn't. Some time in the first third of the story things clicked together, and I started appreciating the journey. The parallel to "Misery" was pretty clear, although the "No. 1 Fan" was less so.

Spoiler alert

I really, really, really didn't like the ending. It didn't work for me, and took away from the overall story. I still did enjoy it!

I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and BookSirens, and my review is being left voluntarily.

If you’re looking for a creepy thriller for the spooky season then this is it! This has a familiar feel to Mother Loves Me and I loved it! Full of suspense, chapters ending on cliff hangers which made me just need to keep reading on! Ethel has got to be one of the most disgusting characters I’ve ever read about! I love a story that provokes real feelings about a character, even if it is hatred! Thank you to the author for this ARC - I am sure this will be another huge success for you!

Well...that was intense! Literally from the first page this book is action packed and a real page turner.

Abby has a brilliant way of just capturing you (no pun intended) and bringing you along on the torturous ride of poor Rachel!

I genuinely have not felt this disturbed reading a book in a long time. And it takes a lot to scare me.

Her descriptions of Mikey had my skin crawling and also pitying him. I was hoping he would make it out and have a better life even if it was in an institution of some sort. I truly felt that he was as much of a victim as Rachel even if he had done some pretty horrible things.

Now Ethel! Oh my word was she the stuff of nightmares. I couldn't help picturing her as a mixture of something from the Walking Dead and also the 'got a light' guy from Twin Peaks. I feel like I wished her dead in every page she was in. She was the definition of evil.

This book is just perfect for the spooky season- if you like a psychological thriller as well as some horror then this is the perfect book for that! I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this book was turned into a horror movie.

More of a 4.5
This was the second book by this author I have read and it didn't disappoint.
It definitely gives a strong salute to Stephen King's "Misery" with the protagonist, Rachel, being kidnapped by her obsessed fan Mikey and waking up handcuffed to a bed in an isolated cottage.
As it's told from Rachel's point of view I really felt her terror, anxiety and was with her as she thought about ways of escape and her worry over her husband (did Mikey kill/harm Jacob during the kidnapping?)
The tension and horror really ramped up with the addition of Mikey's twisted "Nana" and the multiple failed escape attempts.
I felt a bit discombobulated when I began to feel sorry for Mikey (had a bit of a William from "Goodnight Mister Tom" gone VERY wrong vibe, say if Mr Tom hadn't rescued him from his psycho mum).
This was a very full on, dark and dramatic story (very unrealistic but happy to allow it for the story, would make a great film).
I only really deducted the half mark for the overly (sickly) sweet ending as it was just too much sugar/"happily ever after" for me personally.
With thanks to the author for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

"I couldn't help but wonder if I was being punished. I probably couldn't have children and now I was being held prisoner by a psychopath. Was my Dad right; was I selfish and spoiled - rotten to my core? Did I deserve these terrible turns of fate?"

Abby is the undisputed Queen of thrillers with feelings for a reason - and this is just more proof of her title. She creates something chilling, unsettling and thrilling but always one that is full of deep emotions and lasting feelings that make everything so much more intense.

If you’re a fan of thrillers, you’ve probably read Misery which heavily inspired this work; and I love how Abby has taken an idea and made it her own - there’s definitely something familiar about the story but every little twist and turn is something new and you are still left on the edge of your seat.

Her No. 1 fan is a horror that grows over time, starting with an already terrifying premise and building up the pressure and suspense until it’s palpable in a feverish, desperate way that is utterly gripping, blending the cinematic intensity of a thriller with the dark, visceral imagery of a horror to create a truly uncomfortable but unforgettable read. Every location, every character, every small detail is masterfully crafted to disturb and delight.

It delves into the dangers of obsession and desire with a narrative style that hooks you in and keeps you guessing, with all the details making everything feel suspicious and sinister and every twist getting darker. As we hear directly from Rachel as she moves through the most horrific chapters of her life, she shows is her fears, her despairs in such a descriptive way you can feel every little thing along with her.

Another five star read from the Queen!

This is the second of Abby's books I've read now and this was just as good as the last - Arriety.
I loved that so much I promised to read back but just haven't had time, so when I got the chance to review this, her new release, I was so, so excited!!

Once again, I adore the front cover. On the surface it looks just so pretty, but then you spot the image within and it takes on that wonderful creepy vibe that I love in a book.

Abby's writing just completely grips you right from page one and the pace is so fast that it's hard to put this down. I honestly don't think I blinked or breathed for half the book!

Rachel stars in the popular TV series 'Emergency'. She's just had the devastating news that she has a condition that means she will struggle to conceive and is more than a little distracted by this.
The next thing she knows, she's waking up elsewhere having been kidnapped and held against her will.

This absolutely gave me Misery vibes (which is one of my all time favourite books ever!) - fan kidnaps star and demands a certain outcome to the show - but obviously with some unique and unexpected twists.

I actually felt quite sorry for Mikey, who was clearly the way he was due to some childhood trauma - being the muscle behind the kidnap, he didn't seem to be the one in full control of the situation - Nana, however, gave me the absolute creeps!

I read this in just 2 sittings (having had to have an enforced break....) so beware that once you're in, you won't want to be coming out until the end!
Grab a drink and settle in to this, another brilliant read by this author.
I'm already excited to see what comes next!

A Beautiful Cover With Pure Evil Inside!
⛏⛏⛏⛏⛏
Meet Mikey and his Nana, the two psychos in this modernized version of “Misery.” Do you think Annie Wilkes was scary? She’s a delight compared to Nana! Then there’s Nana’s sidekick—her grandson, Mikey. He’s friendly enough, but he has more than a few screws loose.

Mikey and Nana watch the TV show Emergency every week and love Rachel, the lead who plays a doctor. They have big plans for Rachel so Mikey snatches her and brings her to Nana. Presenting her to Nana like an extraordinary gift. The motive behind the kidnapping is repulsive!

“Nana, she’s here! I’ve finally done it! Look, Nana, look!”

We get a detailed glance into the minds of these sickos when the author reviews past events in their lives. How much more terrifying can these two get? Grab your copy and find out. Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down! This is a great book to add to your Spooktober TBR. Especially for Stephen King fans!

I am a no.1 fan of this book 🙌🏽 I just love Abby’s writing and her brilliant array of psychological thrillers— I’m yet to read a book of hers I haven’t loved! I knew this had big MISERY vibes, which I’ll admit made me a little nervous as I wasn’t a huuuuge fan of the pacing of this, but I was happily surprised at how pacy, action packed and gripping this was.

At just under 300 pages, HER NO 1 FAN packs a punch + is EXACTLY what I want from a kidnap/unstable captor plot 👏🏽 The characters, the setting, the atmospheric + chilling writing.. everything combined perfectly to make a plot you just can’t help but fly through.

The characterisation was FLAWLESSLY done🤌🏽. Nana/Ethel in particular was disturbing, to say the least, and the complex + toxic relationship between her and Mikey was simultaneously horrific, saddening + thought provoking. I couldn’t help imagining Mikey as Kevin, the MC from the movie SPLIT, as he switched between what seemed like several personas/personalities.

The tension and anxiety was palpable.. there were points throughout the plot that I thought I wanted Mikey’s pov but actually it was way more terrifying being in the unknown like Rachel’s character.

If you love a psychological thriller with an isolated, creepy setting, complex characters + plenty of tension and twists, this one’s for you!⚰️

Abby Davies what a crazy mind you have 🤪 This is yet another of Abby's books where the drama doesn't stop. It's just non-stop action.
Rachel Brown is held hostage by Mikey Bell. And, there is one thing that Mikey Bell wants Rachel to do, or so he thinks 😁 There's someone else with a far more evil mind in charge. And that's what causes the excitement.

Suspend belief, enjoy the story. I found myself racing through this book (when I had the time 😄) and at the end of some chapters I found myself wondering how much more Rachel could take. Also, with books with this type of storyline I always like to think, what would I do? Believe me, my evil side would have popped out soon with the characters in this book.

Mikey was a character that I flip flopped with my feelings. There were times I wanted to bash him over the head and be done with him, but behind the character lays a story that gave him substance and brings out feelings that you just want to give him a great big hug and tell him all is fine with the world.

There is one person in this story that you definitely don't want to hug and feel sorry for 🙄

I enjoyed this book even though it took a completely unrealistic turn towards the end, to becoming far-fetched (hence the 4 star). It reminded me a little of Stephen King’s Misery (but obviously not as well written) which is one of my all-time favourite reads.

It was very fast paced throughout with short chapters which I do love in a book. The characterisation was good, each were fighting their own demons and it was quite a rollercoaster ride for all of them. One was the epitome of pure evil (Nana/Ethel), one tragic (Mikey) and another was just fighting for their life. Mikey was such a lost soul that I bizarrely found myself start to feel sorry for him at times.

Nana/Ethel was extremely disturbing, to say the least, and the complex and toxic relationship between her and Mikey was horrific and saddening. Why didn’t Rachel just finish her off when she had the chance(s). I just wanted to jump into the book and do it for her as she was just pure evil. I think Ethel's character was what made me want to just keep on reading and wish that she would get her comeuppance at the end.

4.5 stars rounded to 5 stars for Goodreads.

Inspired by Misery, but with more psychological elements, this story had me hooked throughout - I did not want to put it down.

Firstly, how gorgeous is the cover? I need to get myself a print copy when it's released on 28th Sep (make a note people). Secondly, I liked how the key elements of the story were revealed - I really felt like I was trapped there with Rachel.

I loved the back and forth - trying to figure out whether to jump at every opportunity of escape or to bide time and build up trust first. Mikey was such an interesting character and I enjoyed seeing his reactions to different scenarios - there are some interesting dynamics within the pages.

I did have to suspend my disbelief at one stage. Also, I wish there was a little bit more at the end.

Overall, it's my first book by Abby and it certainly won't be my last - I'm excited to pick up another.

This story was thrilling and unputdownable! It was a read that flew by, taking me only around two hours or so to read through. The author did quite well bringing the thrilling horror of this novel to life, and keeping the reader on their toes the entire time.

Rachel and Jacob want nothing more than to have a baby, to grow their family, and just when Rachel realizes she may not be able to have children...something awful happens. When Rachel finds herself abducted by a Christmas obsessed stalker with a psycho grandmother who abused him all his life, she has to fight for her survival and her safety...putting her acting skills to good use to keep Mikey's inner evil at bay while also placating the bitter old woman who seems to call the shots.

The story here is absolutely thrilling, it reads like an episode of Criminal Minds (which I absolutely adore, as a crime drama junkie), and it keeps the reader on the edge of their seat waiting for what happens next. I wholeheartedly recommend this story for those who, like me, love crime dramas and thrillers!

This was such a good fast paced novel!

It started with actress Rachel Brown who plays Dr Elouise Sparkes is taken from her home to a remote mountain cottage.

It had such a fast pace throughout I felt like I couldn’t breathe. With short chapters it felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride, it really didn’t let up at all.

The characterisation was perfectly done, they each were fighting their own demons, it was quite a rollercoaster ride for each of them. One was the epitome of evil, one tragic and another was just fighting for their life, One of them however was such a lost soul and I really found myself feeling sorry for them at times.

I dropped a star and I may be in the minority for this thought but I don’t like a rushed ending. The rest of the book was well written, it was descriptivness was on point. Three quarters of the way in it really picked up, upped the darkness which is what I love about thrillers.

Overall a fantastically fast paced, tense, chilling and at times, dark novel which has made me add the other authors books to my list.
