This didn't clarify the process of building atop my 12' x 12' concrete slab. I got bogged down trying. Christopher, my son-in-law took over, and has now built 4 decks and has become extremely proficient at planning and execution.

This deck book is mostly if you are rich. There doesn't seem to be any average joe projects in here.
