Spiritual growth, Buddhism and India, what could be better than this mixture. Exceptionally well-written, with excellent teachings. The book is a blend of spiritual growth and urban living.

The story starts off with a short interaction between Yogesh and John. It is followed by Yogesh narrating a story to him. The story narrated by him is of three friends. Their trip and an unexpected incident. Due to this horrifying and near-death experience, there comes a very interesting twist in their lives. On the Ghats of Varanasi, they continue their search for nirvana.

The narration of the story kept me absorbed throughout. The narration makes the story feels very realistic. The language used is pleasant. The writing style is engrossing. The book's cover is captivating and the title is quite interesting.

You might like to wander through a few artistic journals — they’re full of sparks and surprises.

After reading this book you would definitely sit with yourself to comprehend the depth of the climax and how it is binding to each one of us👍🏻

John an author travelling to Varanasi is revelling in the mysticism of India with his co-passenger Yogi a meditation teacher. He also narrates his desire to stumble upon a story when Yogi offers to narrate one and assures John that he can write it as well if it inspires him as an author ✍️

(Yogi’s Story) Having the Holiday of their dreams in Goa Krrish, Tony & Asif were on seventh heaven but a near death experience changes their life forever. Turning towards spirituality each one has a unique expedition in their life which was quiet unpredictable and eventful.

The author’s to and fro narration from John & Yogi to the three friends story was effective and informative too historically. The logic of Astrology linked to science was quiet convincing and scintillating for me specifically.
Readers may enjoy this “Mystery of the Urban Monks” but I wish the story could be prolonged 😁

On a train journey to Varanasi, Yogi meets John, a writer and narrates him a story about three friends: Krish, Tony and Asif. Life takes them journeying into an eventful trip to Goa, which became a life-changing trip for them and taught them life lessons but this was not the end of learning. The search of an monk and desire to learn more took them to many more places. Eventually, where exactly did life take them and what's yogi's connection with them. Well for that you need to read the book yourself.
It was a short and light read, that takes you to a spiritual journey. Although the language of the book is very simple and there were tiny mistakes but you will enjoy the narration. The description of the places and mountains were really cool. Overall it was a good one time short read, which can be finished in just one sitting. If you are looking for a short light read then go for this one.
Hope you enjoy the book.
Happy reading !

5/5 for this incredible book

This is my first read from this brilliant author and I must admit the way this fiction story weaved by him is mind blowing. Story began with the narration by Yogi to John in a train journey weaving all the character's beautifully.
Though the entire story revolves around Krish, Tony, & Asif, still he did great work to create few microtales in between , bade miyaan , Aghori baba on bullet or sanyasi Mahesh everyone came with a vision and that's really impressive . Vast knowledge of the locations added in the story make it feel like I am at all the locations by myself . Felt so good to know more about the monks and monasteries. History of bada imamabada in lucknow and brass city moradabad was really relishing.
Story of this fiction took us to the splendid Goa to Serene Himalayas to beautiful Tibet to Varanasi along with the mention of afghanistan and the pain Afghani's were going through with this unending war .
Everything was not overloaded. It comes with a cause and leave us with thought to believe in sovereign invisible power . At the end Krish realised that wealth is not all about being Billionaire, it's all about happiness and inner peace , Tony a wanderer found the solace back when life teaches him and the way he accepted the reality. Asif changed completely after the hijacked incident and became more sensible devotee to his belief though he put himself in trouble due to his blinded faith in wrong teachings however he too realised that life is different then what he was preached till now.
Overall a good book to read and understand the different aspects of life in simple way. Looking forward for more fictions from the author in future.

When Yogi meets John on their train journey to Varanasi, a simple journey turns into a very insightful one. Yogi shares a story about three friends, Krish, Tony and Asia. The trio start their journey to Goa after their sudden plan. During their return journey, the escape from a plane-hijack and this near-death experience makes them view life in a different perspective. The story continues with their lives changing through various experiences.
.
Before reading the book, it is difficult to figure out the genre of the book just from the book description. And even after reading the book, I couldn't figure it out. It's a very unique read with many twists and turns that cannot be predicted. The various journeys that are undergone by the various characters are nice to read and make the reader to yearn to visit Goa and Tibet. I like how after every part of the story, there is a small discussion between Yogi and John about varied topics. The story is amazing but I feel it goes by fast. Better elaboration of the story, especially the experiences of Tony and Asif would have been wonderful. The best part of the book is how the story ended and the conclusions drawn from them. Overall, it is a great choice for a weekend read!

It is an amazing one time read with its beautiful narration and spiritual theme!
The writing is simple and I was invested in the story from the first page because of its plot.. never boring!
I don't know if I can describe it as a box narrative. The story revolves around Yogi and a author whom he meets during a train and starts describing a story of three friends.
I am left with so many questions by the end of the book.. I need more as the story that is told by Yogi is an open ending story.. many readers may have their own endings and I have my own. The plot is so interesting it will keep you stick to the pages .. the book is not very long but sufficient!
The message that is told by Yogi at the end of the story.. the last line is an important one and we have heard it in our daily lives but how many of us follow it? You will get to know the mesg after reading and you will not forget it! The book comprises of gaining knowledge, friendship, bonding , love and responsibilities!

How often do you think spirituality over rides you?

This book is not like other novels, as it has its own way of weaving and opening ends. The book has gifted me a delightful feast to my senses upon completing it.

The story of three friends being narrated by Yogi to a foriegner named John during their train joruney catches the attention of the reader by way of the mystical description of the places and depth of situation through which these young men go. The book by way of describing the story not just intends to stay as a novella in heart but to be a torch bearer to our souls. It vividly talks about travel, Buddhism, spirituality, material world pleasures, friendship, love, trust, family bond, betrayal and spiritual peace.

The book develops as Yogi narrates the story and so, the embedded narration is followed by Yogi's life lessons and experiences that clears John's doubts on philosophical and mythological matters. The story by Yogi creates tension where two of the trio goes missing. The climax seems a bit abrupt on a single read, but while reading between the lines, it makes sense.

I recommend every spiritual thristy person, a travel lover, a philosophical learner, a perosn who believes in family, friends and relationship to give this a try!

Novel ~ Mystery of the Urban Monks

Author ~ Vikram Singh

The novel starts with the journey of John, a writer who befriends his fellow passenger called Yogi. Yogi starts telling him a story about three friends and their respective journeys and perspectives of the world that lands them in different positions. By the end of the novel you along with John will feel enlightened and to a certain extent content about your own life. The author Portrays different stages of everybody's life through three different characters and how we need all the three stages in our life in an equal balance to be happy. Any overdose of one would lead us astray.  The novel is fast paced and can be completed in one sitting. It is perfect for reading during a journey as it takes you all over.

Book Review : Mystery of the Urban Monks.
Author: Vikram Singh.
Genre : All in one.
Pages: 142.

The book is a well written rollercoaster of emotions and feelings. It's difficult to put a genre to the book just because it touches many topics in this modern world. It has romance, life lessons, spirituality, fear, betrayal and much more. The title is justified by the amazing storyline and the writing.
The book is about Yogi,a traveller who narrates a story to John, a writer from abroad while on the train trip to Varanasi. The story that Yogi narrates is about three friends Krish, an IITian dreaming of growing his software business, Tony, a free minded man who wants to meet his long lost monk friend and Asif a music lover who is searching for his reason to live.
The story has many twists and turns from a plane hijacking to the snow capped mountains of Himalayas and much more. The book gives us an insight in the lives of three common people that we see around ourselves and how small and big events change their views about life. The book questions our reasons why we are living our lives. It covers many aspects from the life of fantasies and enjoyment to the soulful spirituality and even something that's quite the opposite.
Overall the book is good, nicely written with great diversity. The destinations add a visual aspect and the various colours are reflected in each character.
The cover of the book could have been better.
The only shortcoming one may find is there are so many things to look out for one may miss out a lot if one reads it too quickly.
My rating : 3.8 / 5.

A story that will stay with the readers for a long time after reading. Amazingly written, with such good lessons. The book is a mixture of spiritual attainment and urban lifestyle. The language is easy yet gripping. The book that started with a strong plot somehow seemed to weaken in the middle.
Towards the end story again picks up the pace and I loved the ending, though I would have loved to read more about the character's life and future. Overall this was a good read and I enjoyed reading this one.
.

✨"Every human being goes through the phase of detachment from their real lives trying to find solace in the unknown. But life is a great teacher, it eventually makes us appreciate our reality"✨
This book revolves around three friends who went on a trip to Goa which changed their life completely.
The main characters of this book are Asif, Krish and Tony, who live in Mumbai, but want to travel the whole world and learn a lot about spirituality and their culture. All three of them realized what they want out of their life and thereby started a new journey of their life. Their story has been narrated by a Yogi to John, who is a writer. This book will take you on a journey to a place like Goa and also to the Himalayas and Tibet and then to Afghanistan. It will teach you new things about spirituality, cultures, travelling, love and mainly friendship. It's a light read and you can easily complete this book in a day or so. There are a lot of things to take away from this book and a lot of lessons to learn. At the end of the book Yogi Co-related all these three characters as a part of our life and how we all are like them at different phases of life. 🌟

On a train journey, John meets Yogi who narrates a very interesting story of three friends to John. The story will have you hooked from the first page to the last.
The three friends: Krish, Tony and Asif are normal, carefree young boys living life to the fullest and enjoying it. One sudden incident has a tremendous impact on their life and changes the course of their lives forever. Their journey after that and experiences is what the book is about. How the book ends I will leave for you to find out. I really like the end, it is quite different. I won't say anything more.

Mystery of the Urban Monks by Vikram Singh offers transformational lessons for happiness and success and shows readers how to live an authentic and meaningful life. It is a beautifully compiled book which enlightens the reader with different lessons for life blended into an interesting fictional story.

The story commences in a train journey where John, a fiction author meets Yogesh a.k.a. Yogi and they start conversing with each other. Yogi starts narrating a story of three friends and about their sudden trip to Goa, where the incidents faced by all the three characters takes a big turn in their life. The author had done good research on the selection of the characters and the situations, geographical location for the story including making reference to the historical facts of the places mentioned thereby.

The narrative is very interesting, full of visualisations which filled some gaps in my imagination that I didn’t know was there until I started reading this. The story takes a break in between different incidents where John and Yogi continue to converse with each other. The author has well planned the entire plot and structured them well into chapters.

To sum up, this book helped me to get that nugget of wisdom on an intellectual level. I cannot say that the book is a complete life changing one but, I’m glad that I read it and I had plenty of takeaways that I can make use in my life. It’s hard to believe that this is the debut work of Vikram Singh as the author has portrayed an exceptional level of creativity and research works into this novel. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and I would recommend it to anyone irrespective of age and interests.

"Reacting actively or passively to any given situation depends largely on our will and understanding of the situation. We always have a choice, and at every stage there are innumerable possibilities"

This book starts with John, an American writer meeting a Yogi in a train. He would have come to India looking for inspiration when the yogi tells him the story of 3 friends namely Krish, Asif and Tony.

The 3 friends plan a holiday for Goa. While returning their plane will be hijacked, and this experience changes their thought process entirely. From there all the three head in different directions and end up in situations where they learn a lesson for life. What we're these situations? What happens to them? Give the book a read.

It was fast paced and I really liked the situations each of them were put through. In between the conversation many facts about India has also been shared. Overall it's a one time read with a good message and the writing style is quite easy to understand.

Mystery of the Urban Monks is a short read you can easily complete in one sitting if you want to. It's a story revolving around the narration of the lives of three friends and how so many influences in their life resulted in turning points they just didn't expect.

The main idea of the story is really commendable, it's something unique, something you haven't read before so it intrigued me till the last page of the story.

I found the ending a little disappointing because I expected the story to end on a good note. But nevertheless, it's different and helps us seek life lessons that can be really helpful.

There were really shocking twists and some really good inspirational messages that I found really ethical. But it's a little slow paced, taking it's own time to reach to it's twists.
For me, it was a short weekend read that I enjoy with a cup of coffee and just wish that I can get done with till my cup is emptied.

Mystery of urban monk by Vikram Singh

When John is experiencing a writer's block, his co passenger Yoga narrates a tale of three friends Tony, Asif and Krishh.
What's was the tale about? Will it help John? What did he promise Yogi at the end of their journey?

Honestly I was expecting a simple and joyful read, but this book blew my mind.
It was surprisingly good.
A blend of Intriguing and Inspiring prose. The themes covered are incredibly relatable, it's has right amount of suspense, twists and gives an inspiring message .The writing is good and author did a great job bringing the characters to life. I enjoyed the unfolding of both story and connected with them. That's all I look for in a book.
I read it one sitting and didn't even know it was hours felt like minutes' for me, as the book ended I had a smile on my face and now I am worried I have to find another book just as good as this.

"Knowledge is like a baton and we have to keep passing it to win"

"His obsession got him into trouble"

"Babu, nature provides all that we humans need and everything else is unnecessary"

The author tries to depict the simple lessons of lives through this story. The story begins with a conversation between two train passengers, which led one of them to narrate the story he has written, the tale of three friends
Krish, Tony and Asif.

The flow between conversations of the two passengers and the tale of three friends is balanced well. Though the expressions could have better which would have complimented the adventures in the book.

The three friends witness their life-changing by the choices they made, good in some cases and bad in a few.
From being in a hijacked plane to being a prisoner in Tibet, the book has its own way of reflecting on their choices.

"Mystery of the urban monks" by Vikram Singh is short book with 140 pages, which we can learn a life lesson through fiction.
The story has 5 Characters, Krish, Tony, Asif, Yogi, and John. The story has something new to add, and it definitely can't be added in any Genre.
John, a fiction writer meets Yogesh during his train travel. Yogi narrates a story of three friends Krish, Tony and Asif to John.
Krish owns a software company. Tony is highschool - dropout- vodkacrazy- womenizer. Asif sells Afghani Carpets.
Krish, Tony and Asif plan a goa trip and I just loved this part the way they enjoyed the trip, the fun and sweet moments between them, the author expressed them beautifully.
It will take you on a spiritual journey and will leave many lessons even after it finishes that you have to sit back and think about it long after the book is finished.

On a train journey to Varanasi, Yogi meets John, a writer and narrates him a gripping story about three friends: Krish, an IITian pursuing his entrepreneur dream; Tony, a vodka craze-high school-dropout; and Asif, a music-loving carpet-seller.

Their journey continues seeking nirvana on the Ghats of Varanasi and falling in love with a tribal girl in Afghanistan. Eventually, where exactly did life take them?

These characters merge in a point and this point goes in a straight line to find out the ultimate answer of their lives.

The story seemed to be well paced and the writing is perfect for a vacation read.Narration is well paced along with gripping story to follow, the plot is bit predictable but still manages to generate interest throughout. Characters are very well portrayed, which brings freshness in the story.

Overall a Quick paced engaging book.

Initially being a fast paced story - it explains how a normal and fun Goa trip turned their perspective of living a life after facing a drastic event of being hijacked in a plane journey. Assuming it as a second chance to live all three of them starts living a meaningful life
I loved the narrative approach; how author tried to metaphorically explain three different life aspect in spiritual manner with the help of their life events.
Overall the book is full of self awakening, spiritual beliefs, beautiful scenic explanation about various places. Would like to recommend it to all adventure freaks and wanderer ls out there!

Most Favorite line from this book is –

1. “If you ask me what real wealth was, it’s the sense of satisfaction, contentment, acceptance, and a simple understanding of life
2. Clothes have nothing to do with spirituality, it's about aligning your mind with the soul.

This book is appealing to such an extent that you will peruse this with full excitement. The creator has an extremely captivating method of introducing the story.

"On a train excursion to Varanasi, Yogi meets John, an essayist and describes him a holding tale around three companions: Krish, an IITian seeking after his business visionary dream; Tony, a vodka rage secondary school-dropout; and Asif, a music-adoring floor covering dealer. Life goes on them venturing into an exciting outing to Goa. Inevitably, an expectation by a mystic and plane capture makes it all the more occurring. This was not the end and they go on a quest for a priest in Tibet. Their excursion keeps looking for nirvana on the Ghats of Varanasi and going gaga for an ancestral young lady in Afghanistan.

Inevitably,

Where precisely did life take them?

What is Yogi's association with them?

Is it accurate to say that he is one of them?

What were the existence exercises for John?

What did he guarantee Yogi toward the finish of their excursion?

It is an astonishing book for the new age.

A great book for present day perusers.

I suggest you folks this book.

Cheerful Reading.

"Life is like an old fashioned cocktail and you are the bartender. A perfect drink will need a balanced mix of all the ingredients."
This line has embedded the ethic of human life. Within a cocktail, the author has stuffed the obligation of life. The title and the cover page is enough to excel the story frame. This story is all about the three wandering souls, who tend to relish life and embarked to excavate the myth of life.

The story outline Yogi and John's met and their journey riveting the story. The plot of the novel, the story about the three friends reveals the ups and downs of existence. The most valuable time of their life they come across. Language is rational. The characters in this novel are unique in their perspective.

Everyone in this world at least would be sincere in their family responsibilities. No one will postpone their own family perspectives for the sake of friendship. Here the three Idiots doing their job with get adventure or thrill or else having pleasure as selfish without the knowledge of their own responsibilities. It leads them to a horrible end and teaching them life's value.

The author narrates the story with the frame of a story, John who met the Yogi on his train journey to Varanasi. The Yogi, who is the writer tells a story to John from his upcoming novel. He narrates the entire story, which give spiritual experience and valuable life experience to John.

Is the story teaches John to face the hard times?

Is the story opens the eyes of John and makes him as a respective person ?

What the lesson has taught by the Yogi? is the main plot in this novel.

The three friends Krish, Tony and Asif, who are the different different characters involved in this story to tell remarkable spiritual experience to the readers. In this novel how the useless or careless man diverting the each others from their own family responsibilities and life's perspectives to met a traffic end and blissful experience.

The descriptions of the places Goa, Varanasi, Tibet, Swat valley and Afghanistan are dramatic.

Simply by said, In their hectic scheduled life they scheduled to met their dreadful experiences.

Nice read with a trip to such remarkable places.

👆These are the few lines I highlighted in the book!
__________

MYSTERY OF THE URBAN MONKS

This book, although marked as a fiction read..sounded a mix of SPIRITUALITY + MEMOIR+ FICTION, to me‼️

I am AMAZED how the author has so effortlessly, weaved so much in mere 142 pages‼️

You can gauge the author's knowledge & wisdom from the language, the content & the plethora of info this thin book gives you‼️

13 chapters.
____________
The storyline:

The story begins with two ppl meeting on a train journey, named YOGESH & JOHN & how their conversation & Yogi's storytelling becomes the script of this book!
It talks about 3 friends, KRISH, TONY, ASIF who although are completely different from each other but are very good friends.
The story is their life journey & the lessons they learnt.

In this concise book, we get to visit Mumbai, Goa, Dharamshala, Delhi, Tibet, Varanasi, Afghanistan..
It talks about friendships, love, marriage, parents, astrology, tarot, destiny, spirituality, life, fraud, terrorism, religion and much more!

The story has a very mystical ending wherein the author/ protagonist Yogi says that;
"maybe the story is real and the characters are fictional.."

The CRUX👇

🍹🍸 "Life is like an old fashioned cocktail & you are the bartender.
A perfect drink will need a balanced mix of all the ingredients".

Life is all about balance, be it of travel-spirituality, materialistic things or our beliefs..or of anything else!

I also appreciate @storymirror for bringing in great reads‼️
This is the debut book of the author & a fab one‼️
4.5/5
