Evan Chambers knows he's rough around the edges. He earned those scars in the worst kind of childhood. Now, he's a successful businessman, living in paradise. The only ripple in his perfect life is May Aiona. She soothes his worst wounds. Being near her leaves him breathless and feeling like a teenager, but thankfully she is oblivious to his desires.
She's ready to take control...by letting go.
May Aiona's dating life is beyond boring. The men who are attracted to want nothing to do with her, so she ends up with men who expect her to take charge. It doesn't help that the one man she wants sees her as a friend. Even though he's her type, she is definitely not his. To move on, she takes the advice of her friend and steps into Rough 'n Ready to explore her needs.
A temptation neither of them can ignore.
Evan's rules fly out the window the night May shows up ready to submit to his best friend. The idea of watching another man touch her is unacceptable. One taste will never be enough, so Evan proposes a friends with benefits situation. One taste will never be enough, so he proposes a friends with benefits situation and she agrees. Falling in love should be happy, but the whisper of his tainted childhood is always there, as is the person who is obsessed with hurting May. One fight puts the lovers at odds, and May in the sight of an obsessive stalker. For Evan, dealing with his past isn’t easy, but losing May is unacceptable.
» The following book sexy Hawaiian settings, crazy relatives, and a submission scene that leaves the heroine breathless and the hero frustrated. There are toys, bondage, and love scenes so hot, you’ll need ice water and a towel. Remember, it’s a Harmless story, so you know there’s nothing harmless about it.
Favorite Quote: He leaned in and took her mouth in a quick, hard kiss. Even the brief contact had both of them breathing heavily.
“You think about that for the next two nights.”
He walked away, knowing he was damn sure he would too.
May Aiona, a restaurant manager has had a healthy string of boyfriends, but no one has ever rocked her socks. She always ends up disappointed in the bedroom. She shares her feelings with her close friend Cynthia, who encourages to step out of the box into something new – BDSM. May is shocked, but also a little excited. She loves to be in control, except in the bedroom. The idea of submitting herself to someone thrills her on the inside. The problem is finding the right man to dominate her. For the past three years she has had her eye on Evan Chambers, but their relationship has never scooted over past the friendship line.
Evan always ends up hanging around the restaurant when May is working. Evan is a silent partner in the very successful Rough ‘n Ready BDSM club. With a $5,000 annual fee, it is exclusive and there to meet whatever needs you may have. Although Evan plays the dom role there, he has always had eyes for May. But, Evan has had a torturous childhood, and never wants his “tainted” blood near May so he has tried to stay away.
Besides the indecision in the bedroom, May is also facing a stalker situation. Someone has violated her car and left her threatening letters. As the police do all that they can, Evan becomes infuriated that May thinks she can handles matters on her own.
When word gets around to Evan that May is planning on trying out the BDSM scene at Rough ‘n Ready, he storms in furious she would submit to any man but himself. He soon finds himself her dominant, and much more stems from this relationship.
A Little Harmless Obsession offers us a view into the BDSM world and is more a contemporary romance than an erotic story. Don’t get me wrong, Evan definitely welcomes May into his world of bondage, but Melissa Schroder gives us more of a suspenseful love story, than just sex scene after sex scene – and for that I liked it.
Evan is such an alpha dominant, if he could have control of every situation and every person at all times, he may finally have contentment. He butts head with May for that reason. While she loves to be dominated in the bedroom, she is very capable of taking charge at work and in her daily routine. And when May presses Evan to let go – just a little, it sends him into a spiral. They challenge each other in and out of the bedroom, and I very much enjoyed their relationship.
Cynthia and her husband Chris, who are featured in her previous book show up a lot in this one and add fun best friends to the story. We also learn about the other club owner, Micah who has definitely peaked my interest. I believe his book comes out this December and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
My one complaint about this book is when May first gets initiated into the BDSM world. She doesn’t have the $5,000 fee to pay, so Micah agrees to let her in if she submits to a public audience. Part of the plan is to also get Evan jealous enough so he steps forward to be her Dom. The plan with Evan worked fine with me. I just had a hard time believing May would allow to submit publicly. First she is having a stalker problem, so why put yourself out there, especially in such an extreme vulnerable situation. At one point she also thinks, “She rarely stood in front of a man naked, let alone with a light on and he being completely dressed.” Yet she still felt comfortable, doing this? I realize she is yearning and missing this BDSM part in her life, but I just don’t buy that she would start in this fashion.
Otherwise, A Little Harmless Obsession is a very sexy, read with an alpha male who will make your toes curl.
This book read really quickly for me. I enjoyed the emotional connection the hero and heroine shared. And I love a novel where the main couple have known eachother forever and have wanted each other forever and are too stubborn to actually get together.
Evan is a Dom with a tortured past that won't let him love a woman. (because we all swoon for a tortured Dom) And he is insanely attracted to May who is a strong woman with an unfulfilling sex life. Basically her dudes are wusses who her Daddy sets her up with. (This is why you never let your daddy pick your dates ladies!)
May gets the opportunity to join a local BDSM club, and Evan sees her there and that's the game folks.
We follow them on a journey of May learning to submit, and Evan learning to open up and form a real connection for the first time in his life.
Then so we don't get bored with all the bangin' May gets a stalker to fill in the time when the couple isn't whipping each other into a smexy frensy.
I really enjoyed reading this one, but it's not really one that I will re-read. The characters, while I was involved weren't really that memorable to me. I can tell we have another book coming and my guess is it will be between Mitch (Bondage Club owner extrordinaire) and Jocelyn (Chris's lost little sister who he is bringing back to the island.)
While I do want a book to show the spotlight couple strongly, I don't really like how the other characters we read about in this series are shoved to the side so much. Aside from a sentance or two here or there we don't hear a thing about the past couples. These people are supposed to be best friends? I don't get it. But I will read on because I am really hoping to get back to the initial couple sometime. I can hold on for another book or two.
This is the story of May and Evan. I enjoyed this entertaining story with its unexpected twists that added suspense and drama. These two have a strong connection and each will learn unexpected lessons from the other. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
May Aiona has a harboured feelings for Evan Chambers for a while, unfortunately he doesn't see her as more than a friend. Evan is intense, brash and complex. He has feelings for May that he keeps tight control over. they are anything but benign. Thank goodness for interfering, well meaning friends (like family). Between machinations, incendiary attraction, volatile emotions and a stalker, Evan and May will have a lot to unravel before their HEA. There are aspects of this booking that could be considered triggering.
May works at a restaurant in Hawaii called DuPree's, her boss is Chris DuPree (A Little Harmless Pleasure). She has a terrible crush on his best friend Evan. Evan is a tortured soul who believes that he will never be good enough for any woman. Evan successfully keeps May at arms length until his friends conspire to have him dominate May in her first act of submission in his club. After that experience, Evan realizes that only May will do. They become involved.
The beauty of this book is that there is just about a perfect balance between the plot and the erotica. The love story is not so convoluted that you get bored and the steamy scenes are clearly there to advance the plot. The characters draw you in and make you root for them to come out on top. The love scenes are beautifully written and not in any way over the top. A fabulous read by an author who is quickly becoming an autobuy for me.
This one was smokin'. I came (not that way you pervs), I read and I got excited because I just realized that this book is the 3rd in a series which means I get to go back and pick up the first two and book four will be out by years end. Who's doing the happy book dance? ME!
But seriously, this book offered an great sneak peak into Hawaii the BDSM scene and a dominant woman who is a sub in the bedroom. Maylea may bottom for Evan but she only bottoms in the bedroom.
I appreciate that May's kickass personality didn't dry up following her first session. She recognized what she wanted and needed in the bedroom and was willing to go find it elsewhere if Mr. Self Deprecation couldn't man up and take his woman.
Gotta love a Dom who realizes he's out of his depth, but man's up anyway.
This was a re-read for me and I loved it just as much the second time. I am truly enjoying revisiting this series! May has been harboring a lust for Evan, her boss's friend, for quite some time. She has a dismal dating life and when she gets the chance to go to the local BDSM club she is all in. Turns out this is Evan's club. When she turns up, Evan is all in. He is a tortured soul and doesn't think he deserves to be loved by anyone but May will just have to prove to him that is so not true. These two are perfection together. Add in a stalker for May and that just keeps the plot moving along.
Every book in this series can be read as a standalone.
I read this book first in the bundle pack. I crave all the Harmless books, with fantastic characters, a bite of suspense and a love story in beautiful Hawaii. May has been strong for her family, taking charge when her mother dies. But who takes care of her. After investing the alternate lifestyle she wants to know if giving control to another will help her where she feels lacking.
Not worthy of a woman like May, Evan can't seem to get her out of his head, using self destructive ways to remind himself. But everything changes when he finds out that her submission can be all his. I now want to start the entire series again. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another great story from the mind of Melissa Schroeder. Maylea Aiona wants Evan Chambers, Whenever he is near May she has trouble breathing. Evan made her whole body tingle this has been going on since the first time she had seen him years ago.But he was not the man for her. Evan was over six feet of gorgeous muscle. Evan wants May,but he doesn't think he's good enough for May. Evan is a silent partner in a BDSM club, also A Dom. Evan is not happy when May shows up at the club. For her first session as a sub with Micah, Evan's partner in the club.Evan does like that. Things get very heated between May & Evan be prepared to have ice water at the ready. this a most read.
This series keeps getting better with each book. A Little Harmless Obsession is a hot read with a fantastic plot. Evan and May are perfect for each other. The characters are well rounded and fully developed. The insight into Evan and May's past show you how they became the characters that you will fall in love with. The sex is exactly what you expect from a Harmless book so make sure you have a nice cold glass of ice water to help you cool down. Melissa has delivered another scorching book in this fantastic series. I read this book start to finish because I just couldn't put it down.
My original review Another great book to the series! The author brings a sizzling hot romance between Evan and Maylae. She adds in the suspense with the ex and a fun banter between friends and delivers another fantastic story. It's well written, moves quickly and smoothly and I loved reading.
Updated review Ms. Schroeder takes a great read and makes it even better with the additional scenes and kept me reading with the extra surprises along the way. Loved the epilogue!!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Tied for first place in the harmless series. Of all the heroes Evan's got my vote, but Micah isn't far behind. What stands out for me the most, and I wish more author's would do this...Melissa's heroine's are not catwalk models. They seem to be everyday girls, who aren't 110 pounds soaking wet, but have foibles...there body's aren't perfect but yet something combustible can still happen when the hero looks at the heroine. Awesome read!
This is book 3. I liked the way that Melissa has kept the charactors together, but seperate. Each book keeps you panting for the next one. I hope there are more in this series. There is suspence and lots of good lovin.
A great friends to lover story, with a D/s twist. A quick read for me, the characters were solid and the story was steamy hot with just enough suspense.
I think what fascinates me about BDSM is the degree of trust required to hand over control to a person, even if that person happens to be a friend. Perhaps then even more so. So, here we have a woman who realizes there’s something missing in her intimate relationships and wants to explore a different side of her sexuality. I loved May’s boldness and courage to pursue a side of herself that may not be considered the norm. However, when given the chance to join the Rough ‘n’ Ready BDSM club, I found it hard to wrap my head around the fact that she would have been willing to submit to a stranger in public for her very first scene or that she would allow Evan, the man she had been secretly obsessed with for years, to step in in the stranger’s place. Evan is a man that has been shaped by his past and his rigid control is only ever shaken by May, although he refuses to taint her with his bad blood. His determination to keep his hands off her is tested, however, when he discovers her at the club. You’ll definitely need a cold shower after their steamy encounter, but then Evan literally runs out the door. Now, this was another sore spot for me. As an experienced Dom, having initiated an undisclosed number of women into the world of submission, he would have known the importance of after-care following such an intense scene, but instead he left May high and dry, though it only confirmed what May already knew, which was that Evan would be forever out of reach. Agreeing to a friends with benefits arrangement only seemed to prolong the agony as Evan continued to act hot and cold. It’s only when the reality of losing May strikes home that Evan finally starts to take stock of his life. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book three in The Original Harmless Five series and it is May and Evan’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Wow we are only up to book three in this series and I am already totally addicted to this series. May is a restaurant manager but her private life is nothing but a lot of disappointments when it comes to men and how they make her feel and the one person who does make her feel something sees her as just a friend so when her friend encourages May to go to Rough ‘n’ Ready and explore what she wants and her desires May decides to give it a go not knowing that it will completely change her life. Evan is a silent partner in The BDSM club Rough ‘n’ Ready which is very successful but the one highlight in his life is hanging out at the restaurant where May works even though he can only ever be her friend no matter how much he wants more with her and that is because of his childhood but everything changed when May walks in the club and Evan decides that he will be the only man that can touch her. When May has a stalker and things are increasing to a dangerous level Evan steps in to help and protect her even though she thinks that she can do it all herself. May and Evan will have many ups and downs and disagreements along the way before they can finally realise and admit that they are perfect together. I absolutely this book and series so much and I can’t wait to read the next book.
Part of The Original Harmless Five each can be read as a standalone but you will want to read each book in the series so get comfortable once you start you won’t put it down till the last page has been turned. Two best friends who want to be more but never tell the other keeping their feelings for one another so tightly wrapped up. Evan sexy as all get out boss at DuPree's he doesn’t think he deserves love so keeping the one women he dreams about, thinks about, can’t get off his mind at an arm’s length is getting harder by the day, and when given the chance to be with her he is hesitant to take it so his friends sets him up (in a good way). Maylea is a sweetheart has always had a crush on boss who works at Dupree’s but of course she can never say anything, but she has been working taking care of her family since her mother passed away being in control is what she knows but wonders if she can release control and what better way than submitting at the club to the one man who hasn’t left her thoughts or dreams. Their night, their connection was unforgettable it was exactly what they both needed but he won’t acknowledge it because he doesn’t feel worthy and she needs it to balance herself but will he wake up and realize he will lose her if he doesn’t get it together stepping up to be the Dom she needs, will she find another Dom, and can they find something more like happiness?
May and Evan have played a game of song and dance for far too long, but her interests in her desires are what pushes him over the edge. May's spent years trying to find fulfillment and her awakening, but it's through Cynthia's friendship she realizes that the lifestyle may be exactly what she is looking for. It's all worked out to where May will get to experience a scene at the club Evan owns with Micah and make sure she isn't just a frigid woman...all of this has been done without Evan's' knowledge. When he shows up huffing, puffing, and about to blow the house down he makes it known he's not happy, but no one is touching May but him. Let's just say, the scene turns Evan inside out and feelings he never thought possible for himself come crashing down like waves.
I loved May and Evan. May was determined to keep her submission separate from the rest of her life because that's who she was, it was her identity. May was a boss! She ran Dupree's as much as Chris, she ran her house - full of men, and she let Evan know that he was NOT going to run her life outside of the bedroom. Lee was insane and there's so much potential with more stories with Micah, Rome, and dare I say Jocelyn moving to the Island. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a fascinating story that explores the changing dynamic of Evan and May’s relationship. Complicating matters is an unknown stalker who seems intent on leaving May threatening messages. As May begins to take steps to move outside her comfort zone to explore her deeper, submissive nature, Evan realizes that he’s the only one he’ll let lead her through her first D/s experience. However, it’s not going to be an easy road for either of them. They both must struggle against their natures if they’re going to find the path to their future together. But just as things become rocky between them, May’s stalker takes a more decisive and deadly turn against her.
It's an engaging tale that’s filled with emotional drama, a few tense nail-biting moments, some steamy elements of BDSM, a bit of angst and lots of passion. There’s plenty to keep you fully involved from start to finish. This series is filled with well-drawn characters and extremely entertaining storylines, and this story is no exception. Evan and May’s love story has a few ups and downs and an unexpected twist or two, but it’s well worth the ride.
Maylea Aiona is the manager of Dupree's restaurant owned by her friend Chris. She has a huge crazy family and she bosses them all around. Her father is constantly setting her up on blind dates that never work put. She has had a crush on Evan since she met him. She thinks she may be a sub but has no experience in the lifestyle.
Evan Chambers owns a renovation company and is silent partner in a BDSM club with his friend Micah. He had a horrific childhood and his way of dealing with it was to become a Dom. Because of his childhood he feels he is not worthy of a normal relationship and having children.
May starts getting stalked and the police look into the men she has dated in the past. Meanwhile her bestie Cynthia talks her into going to the BDSM club to see if being a sub is what she has been looking for in a relationship. Micah manipulates Evan into being May's Dom at the club and they agree to a D/s relationship together. When the stalker escalates and harms May Evan gives into his feelings for her. They iron out their issues and get their HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ever since book 2, I'd wondered who would be the woman to bring Evan to his knees, and the author did not keep us waiting. But I'd never twigged that the stubborn/determined Maylea would be his kryptonite!
May is everything you want in a heroine - self-possessed, brave and willing to assert herself (as you'd expect after marshalling a household of men for so long). Evan is an enticing Dom with a much darker history than I'd have ever guessed at. But he comes good (this IS a HEA after all! Thank goodness hahaha!).
It's wonderful to visit with the other characters again (which are super sneaky about their intervention), and the suspense piece, while not a main focus, gave May a chance to show how much of a kickass she is, which is fun (and satisfying - you'll get it when you read it;)).
I've only marked the rating down based on persistent grammatical errors, which are a personal bug bear. However I was given the opportunity to review an ARC version, so very possible this has been addressed in the final version.
All in all, a heartfelt and sexy addition to the series!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is a part of a series and there were some references to previous novels that were a little hard to overlook if you have not read the other book. I have not read the previous book so some of the references to Evan's background (namely his mother) were a little over the head there are some references but it's pretty vague. There are some grammatical and spelling errors that I'm sure will be ironed out. Also it's Huli huli chicken not Huhi Huhi. Anyways those things aside I wasn't loving Evan's character again with no prior knowledge as to why he has such an explosive temper and often time foot in the mouth syndrome he just seems like a meat head with an anger management issue. He has basically friend zoned May from the beginning it's pretty hard for him to have been as oblivious as to how she feels. OF COURSE soon as someone else shows her interest he's in board....oh and she has a potentially psychotic stalker. The BDSM aspect was overwhelming. Sexy without being too much. It was a good airplane read.

Interesting romance featuring a BDSM aspect. I wasn’t quite sure the subject matter was for me when I started reading this book, but as read on, I found that this was a refreshing change from many romances and quite different from Melissa Schroeder’s other novels I have read in the past. The fact that some of the main characters frequent a local BDSM club adds a fascinating aspect to the story. May, a bar manager has been in love with customer, Evan for a long time, and is frustrated by the fact that he doesn’t seem interested in her in that way. I also enjoyed the fact that she is aware something is lacking with her own sexual experiences; so much so, that she decides to attend the club and experience being dominated in an effort to achieve fulfilment. I liked the way that this ‘journey’ for May, takes place against the backdrop of her being targeted by a stalker and Evan coming to terms with his own dark past. An original read, I will definitely be checking out the other novels in this ‘series’.
Evan is a Dom and silent partner in BDSM club. Friend of Chris who is May's boss. May is his obsession but he is determined to keep his distance. May likes Evan but accepts he is not interested in her romantically and they will not be involved, watching him date others. She also has a secret interest in BDSM, but her feisty nature belies the submissive beneath. A stalker brings them closer and an opportunity to sample the lifestyle creates a situation neither expected. Emotions buried deep begin to emerge and feelings spiral, which will either make or break them as a couple. Decisions have to reached before it is too late. There has to be give and take, the rough comes with the smooth, trust needs and demands respect. The story and characters are well written and their background is interesting. The BDSM theme runs through the series, so can be repetitive as each story is individual in it's own right, but scenes and events are duplicated. May has had a crush on her boss's best friend Evan from the start but never expected her feelings to be returned. He was a gruff wall of muscle whose taste in women ran in something completely different to her. However, when she walked into his club to explore the possibility of realising her submissive potential his over the top protector personality appeared.
Evan is a tough, damaged individual who suffered and survived an awful childhood. He grew up with the sure knowledge that he didn't deserve a good woman and that he was not meant to have a true relationship. Against his better judgement, the more he got to know May, the more he wanted just that. He was not the man for her but when she walked into his club there was no going back.
Whilst this was happening May attracted an unknown violent stalker that threatened her safety and his sanity.
A fantastic heartfelt romance between a strong, sunshine woman and the man who fights against giving into loving her.

This is the 3rd book in the Original Harmless Five series featuring the page-turning suspenseful tale of best-friend's who both want more but don't tell each other about their feelings they keep them locked down. Evan and May's story gives us the reason why Evan feels the way that he does about life and relationships he doesn't think that he deserves love and he's tormented by his past. May is the one person in his life who brings him peace and she also drives him crazy and he pretends that he doesn't have any feelings for her until he finds her in his club and in danger. Will Evan and May admit their feelings for each other or will the stalker win in his quest to harm May? You really need to read this page-turning suspenseful tale of best-friend's who both want more to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.
