The unthinkable, but true chronicles of a rookie teacher and his impulsive, unpredictable herd of 9th grade boys - affectionally known as the "Hogs". This collection of hilarious, sidesplitting (too wild to imagine) tales from the 70's classroom will keep you snorting with laughter and fill your heart with "Hog Wisdom". In the stressed-out, too-serious world in which we work and live, "The Hog Farm Chronicles" is a refreshing escape and a must read for educators, counselors, youth leaders, kids, and parents.
Its not a bad book. Its kinda cute. It could have been a bit shorter. The man rambles. Nothing extremely note worthy for teachers who come to this naturally. The principles weren't always the best. The main idea of having the separated class was what I liked the most. It addressed a lot of the problems that we have today with students
My dad, a former teacher of 39 years through the 60's-90's, was given a signed copy of the book and let me read it. Being from Iowa I assumed from the title the book was going to literally be about hog farming, which is, or at least was, very common in the state. I was surprised and yet fully understood what the book would be about having grown up in the "Welcome Back Kotter" years. The book isn't so much a novel but a collection of amusing anecdotes. A quick and interesting read.
