There are books that teach you to recognize something, whether that is something in your life or a friend’s or whether it helps you realize something you never have before…these are the books that should be championed. And this is a prime example of one of those books. I am changed for the better because Mika’s writing spoke to my soul.
Have you ever dulled your shine and lost yourself because of grief and resentment, because of self doubt and ultimate self loathing, well I have. It doesn’t feel good, it feels like you are flailing with no purpose. Carista Wilde is someone you can see bits of yourself in and whether that is heartbreaking or reflective is up to you. Still reeling from grief over her father’s death, she’s lost her purpose and her love of the city. Two unlikely things happen to her… well more specifically two unlikely people.
Miss girl must have some kind of karmic positive that two celebrities, Daniel Parker and Levi Spencer, both have their eyes set on her. But she is in denial and that is the result of her upbringing, of never feeling worthy and good enough. It eats at her very core. While one of these men is the definition of toxic masculinity, audacity, and entitlement. The other is everything that is right about a man, a relationship and a love that blossoms and lasts.
Levi shows her what a love should look like. What feeling cherished and wanted should be. And he teaches her that even if bad things have happened you can still make the most of memories. He teaches her to love a city she let go of, to trust herself and to realize she is beyond worthy. Carista learns that a person can be a home and a safe place all in one and that it’s okay to let go and lose yourself. That a soulmate can be a best friend, and that true love is worth the risk.
Ladies choose the man that will have patience, time, adoration and love for you even when you loathe yourself. A man that will hold you when you cry and reassure you without being told. Carista’s relationships are nothing alike. What is the common thread is her authenticity to herself. I always love a black cat FMC because it’s me to my core.
This book is an underhyped masterpiece that will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The banter was chefs kiss, the spice was spicing and the twists were worthy of audible gasps. Mika delivers a beautiful, painful, and simply entertaining tale of people finding themselves in each other, making mistakes and ultimately falling harder for the right person.
💕All I can say is I would love to read this for the first time again. Add to your TBR or run and read it now. It doesn’t just grab you with the complexity of the characters but you walk away with something. The lesson it gives you is nothing sort of astonishing.

Gorgeous story of finding love in the most unexpected places!
Carista’s story is so inspiring, showing us all that the best things can happen at the most unlikely of times. Work hard, be kind, and you’ll be rewarded 🤍 And the author said it best, always choose the green flags, no matter how appealing those red ones are!!
From the very first sentence to the last I was rooting for everyone in this book! Mika does an amazing job at bringing these characters to life. There were moments that I teared up, got angry, laughed, and I even texted Mike to tell her how much I hated a characters actions! Mika, we need a sequal, like tomorriw.
I couldn’t put this book down! I loved it. The chemistry Daniel and Carista had and then way Levi swooped in right after ? UGH I spiraled for a while 🥹
AND the amount of SPICE was perfect for this book 🌶️🌶️
I laughed, got more irritated than i should have and i ugly cried 😭 💕
What a good story this was. I could not predict what was going to happen but I did enjoy the ride. There were a lot of moving parts in this story and I think the main characters made out in the end.
I loved this! A love triangle that had my head spinning (in a good way), for most of the book and kept me guessing down till the last page. A whole lot of sexual tension, angst, and drama to keep you invested the whole book. I can't wait to see what happens in book 2!
