WE KNOW THE CBEST The experts at The Princeton Review study the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) and other standardized tests to make sure you get the most up-to-date, thoroughly researched books possible.
WE KNOW STUDENTS Each year we help more than two million students score high with our courses, bestselling books, and award-winning software.
WE GET RESULTS Students who take our courses for the SAT, GRE, LSAT, and many other tests see score improvements that have been verified by independent accounting firms. The proven techniques we teach in our courses are in this book.
AND IF IT'S ON THE CBEST, IT'S IN THIS BOOK We don't try to teach you everything there is to know about math, reading, and writing, only what you'll need to know to pass the CBEST exam. There's a big difference. In Cracking the CBEST, we'll teach you how to think like the test makers
*Eliminate answer choices that look right but are planted to fool you *Solve CBEST algebra problems by plugging in numbers in place of variables *Score higher on reading comprehension questions by learning to spot main ideas, topic sentences, and key words *Write more effective essays by knowing in advance what the test graders are looking for
Learn the techniques and strategies in this book, then practice them on the two full-length sample tests inside. These tests feature questions just like the ones you'll see on the real test, and we fully explain every solution.
If you are looking for a book to review for the California CBEST, this is it. The testing strategies not only helped me with the CBEST, they are helping me with all standardized testing.
I did not study for months before as the book suggests, but rather read through it a few days before for a quick review. I did not do the practice tests at the end of the book, but I did do the practice problems in each chapter. The quick refresher and general testing tips provided was enough to leave me feeling prepared and ready! (Didn't want to review until I got my score -- but I passed! 5/5 would recommend).
I went through this test prep book to help me take the CBEST exams this summer. I passed all three sections: the math, the reading, and the writing. That alone should tell you that the book worked. It is no nonsense and helpful. It is clear and concise with its advice. It does its job.
Now I'm on my way to becoming a substitute teacher.
This was a good book with a nice sense of humor. The material is well organized and is explained in a very easy to understand manner. I've never been good at math, then again I never really tried, but this book guided me from the fundamentals and I was doing basic geometry in a few days. Youtube tutorials were also a great help.
The text is fine, but the CBEST is overrated. The book makes it sound like the GRE, when it's probably closer to the GED. If you passed your GRE (especially math), you don't need to live and breathe this book for months.
