"Oh god, I’m so tragic."
(Back from my slump to see GR glitching again- it's good to be back 💀🥂).
Anyway- I loved this novella 😭. You don't understand, it fulfilled all of my gothic dreams. It was weird and simple and cute and so perfect for what I was looking for atm 🤧.

This novella was just so much fun. I think the thing I loved most about it was how enthralled and obsessed these characters were with one another (Penny was already thinking about first wedding songs and I'm all here for it😭).
I've always been a fan of CM's novellas, and although I haven't loved some of her most recent ones- this one just did it for me.
I'm not going to question any of the logistics behind anything 💀, and just read it for the vibes- and it was just so cute.

This was a short, sweet, a bit wierd, story about Penny a cleaning lady who lives in Haunted central, but has never experienced the paranormal and is itching for a ghost encounter. She cleans the room of famous writer Arthur, and scrubs the blood leaking from the wallpaper. They meet and converse. He invites her to spend the night exploring the hotel to look for spooks. They dance and kiss, he seemed stunned which she mistook for him not liking her advances. When they get to the bedroom he tells her that this is forever and that it is not casual. He wants a future and she is on board already picking out a wedding song, the one they danced and had their first kiss. He is thrilled, the have sex and then epilogue where they are married and pregnant. We get in the epilogue the introduction to Book 2 "Shiver Me Timbers" about a captain pining for a woman taking tickets for the boat ride.
This was cute. No pushing away from the H which I like. The sex scene was wierd at the end when he asks if it was good and she high fives him. It was just ok in terms of romance, not very good erotica, but on that front, it's ok, it was more cutesy, which I like. It drenched with spooky things happening for sure, perfect for spooky season. It almost seems like it wasn't written by Cassie Mint, because the hero was actually sweet and pleasant.
It was all right. Short and sweet. I hope the second one is a sweet read too, but I have a slight suspicion it will be a beta hero pushing the heroine away. We shall see.

Bump in the Night was a nice quick short story for the spooky season. I found the story funny and entertaining. I’ve reread it multiple times.

The town of Belladonna Bay is a hotspot for paranormal activity. However, Penny (h- age 23)) has lived in Belladonna Bay all of her life and has never witnessed any supernatural event. She really wants to have a paranormal encounter.

Seriously. What’s up with that? Am I not hauntable enough? I‘ve tried wearing flowy white nightgowns and leaving my bedroom window open at night; I’ve swum at the shipwreck during moonlit summer nights, and picnicked at the overgrown cemetery. Nada.

“Hennigin Hall looms against the darkening sky, all pale stone and climbing ivy; carved screaming faces and mini turrets. It’s hideous and beautiful, all at the same time. Gloomy and enticing. I love it.”
Three months ago, Penny took a job as a maid at Hennigin Hall bc it’s supposed to be really haunted. Tourist come from all over to stay at the hotel. Penny still hasn’t seen any supernatural event. She hopes to have a good chance in this old home where there are rumors of gargoyle statues coming to life at night and portraits seem watch as people pass .
The walls in room 13 bleed.
This famous author has come to stay at the hotel and he is staying in room 13. Someone needs to clean the blood of the walls in the room. Penny is more than happy to volunteer. She ends up meeting the author but doesn’t know who he is at first.
Arthur Carstairs(H)- Age 35. He is a famous horror author that has been having writers block for the past 8 months, so he has come to Hennigin Hall in hopes of gaining inspiration for his book. He just so happens to be Penny’s favorite author in the whole world. I thought it was cute that he hoped she knew who he was and like his work.
“What if she’s heard of me, and she hates my work? Or what if she hasn’t heard of me and thinks I’m bragging over nothing?”
I thought it was funny when Arthur thought about fans writing him letters of disappointment.
I grin, my chest suddenly lighter. “All of them?” Because people don’t do that with authors they hate, do they? Well actually, some readers definitely do, because I received their loving disappointed emails- with their assurances that they’ll try the next one. People are odd.
Arthur comes up with the idea that Penny can stay in his room for the night and they can explore the hotel after dark in hopes that Penny will have her first supernatural encounter.
I liked that Arthur gave Penny the nickname “Penny Dreadful” that sweet.
I thought it was so cute how excited Penny got over possibly having a supernatural encounter.
“Fingers crossed for more bleeding wallpaper, then.”
“Oh, can you imagine?” She heaves a blissful sigh, like I mentioned a tropical vacation or a gourmet meal. Something truly decadent, “That would be so cool, We shouldn’t get greedy, though.”
There might have been more than ghosts that went bump in the night as the tension grew between Arthur and Penny. I thought Penny and Arthur were adorable together and it was light funny read for Halloween. The story is short, so it’s a quick read. I do wish the story would have been a little bit longer. However, Penny and Arthur are side characters in the second book Shiver Me Timber, so you get to see a little more of them. There is a time jump at the end of the story with what I felt was a satisfying ending.

Eh. This was okay, I liked that the MMC was a bit different than the others that I've read. Glasses, no beard.
This being a Halloween sorta haunting book, I kind of thought it was going to be something actually spooky or maybe paranormal. Like maybe the MMC was a Werewolf or something.
This was not that.

it was surprising
I wanted a bit more. I love the dynamic between them. However, with the way the blurb was, I was expecting more ghosts. Hahaha maybe a fun scare to really throw them together.

Penny lives in the most haunted town yet in her 23 years she has never encountered a ghost or spirt. As a last ditch effort she gets a job as a maid in the very haunted hotel in town. She volunteers to clean room 13 where the walls bleed blood the night before. The room is rented to Arthur a horror novelist. When the two meet the attraction is there but Arthur feels like he’s to old for a young girl like Penny. When she explain to him she has never encountered anything otherworldly he invites her to his room to witness the bleeding walls and exploring the rest of the hotel.
Arthur has hit the wall of writers block but after meeting and flirting with Penny he wrote ten whole pages, he had not written a word in 8 months. Penny has read all his books and is excited to spend time with him.
Arthur and his new muse Penny explore the attic and find a cleared area with an unplugged record player playing and a silvery beam of light. They dance and share a kiss. Spooky season = great spooky reads.
I LOVE spooky-themed novellas/books. They are the bread and butter when Halloween is around the corner.
Penny and Arthur's story is great for readers who love a bit of spookiness with their romance. Penny works in a haunted hotel but hasn't had a spooky encounter since she started working there. She wants to have an encounter with a ghost or something spooky to have an interesting story she can tell friends. It's been months and NADA. Enter Arthur. He is a horror writer and hasn't had any luck with writing in 8 months. He came to stay at the hotel for some inspiration and meets Penny Dreadful ;) They seem to have a deeper connection and embark on an adventure at night. They walk around the hotel to see if they find anything unusual. Soon, they can't stop thinking about each other and seem to keep getting closer and closer. Will their relationship bloom? Or will they keep their relationship strictly professional?
Their story is fast-paced and steamy. I loved how connected they were and how they showed their feelings. Can't wait for the next book in the series since we get to see a little bit about them at the end.

This was disappointing to say the least. This read like a teenager wrote it. For Penny to be 23 she is very young minded. Inexperienced is one thing but when she high fives Arthur afterwards I think that was a bit too juvenile for me. I enjoyed majority of the book until it came to the 65% mark where you were able to see more of her personality and how she reacted to things.
You honestly couldn't tell that he was that much older than she was. He just went along with majority and it didn't show his age at all. I feel like he was just a few years older but still just as juvenile.
I think this could have been so much better. Cassie has written much better than this in the past. I'm hoping the series isn't like this one because if so it would be a shame.

This definitely got me in the Halloween mood!! I loved how these two meet and how you can feel their connection straight away... and I really loved that she was basically ghost crazy with wanting to find something paranormal and he was a writer looking for inspiration and I loved how the author made it so that they found what they were looking for in each other instead! I loved how the book stayed focused on their blossoming relationship but she didn't forget about the haunted aspect! I couldn't get enough of this book and I loved that even though both characters coke from different backgrounds and were basically each other opposite, they still complimented each other so well! I cannot wait see what she comes up with next... I wouldn't be apposed to another Halloween themed romance though!!.

Oh, this story! It’s about the sweetest, nerdiest, cutest horror author Arthur, who is desperate to overcome his writer’s block by staying in a haunted hotel, and spunky hotel maid and horror book lover Penny, who is desperate to finally see a ghost. And in the course of one spooky night, all their dreams come true and more. This is one instalove story that that you want to believe in because it has all the feels while also being funny in a very sweet way. It’s very short but it will leave you smiling and cozy and warmed up. And maybe wanting to be a little haunted 😊.

Penny works in a haunted hotel, she lives in a town that is famous for its hauntings, but has never experienced one herself. She meets Arthur when she is called to clean his room after the walls bled. Arthur is an author, he's having writers block and thought the haunted hotel would help. Meeting Penny is what helps him and he invites her to his room that night to see if she can experience a haunting. But soon Penny is more interested in what she can experience with Arthur than the ghosts.
I enjoyed reading this story and would recommend it.

I loved Bump in the Night Book 1 of Hot & Haunted. Penny loves all things paranormal so she works in a haunted hotel hoping to see something for herself. She never has but when she meets Arthur, her favorite horror author, things change. Is it be use if the ghosts or are their feelings real? This is a shirt and sweet story. I loved the storyline, it was so cute and the the characters. I think this is going to be a great series and I would definitely recommend this book.

Penny worked in hotel known to be haunted, but she has yet to see anything. When she was to clean room 13, the occupant was someone that was kind. Arthur was a writer, in hopes to get some inspiration from the hotel, but when the maid came in, it fired up a spark inside of him.

Penny and Arthur were such an interesting mix. Penny was desperate to see a ghost in a town where everyone else had. She worked at a place notorious for it but never had the experience. Arthur was a writer staying at the hotel she worked at to get material for his books. These two meet and connect on such a basic level. They can't stop their attraction. This was a cute, quick read just in time for Halloween.

Ok not going to lie, when I was done reading this book I was thinking "What was the point of this book." Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the connection, awkwardness, and chemistry and HEA but everything else, I was like "why?". Just because I had issues with this book, doesn't mean someone else won't love it so give it a try.
