Don't confuse with Johann Christoph von Schmid (1756-1827).

Johann Nepomuk Christoph Friedrich von Schmid was a writer of children's stories, educator, and Roman Catholic priest. His stories were very popular and translated into many languages. His best-known work in the English-speaking world is The Basket of Flowers (Das Blumenkörbchen).

It is my opinion that this book should be read by everyone! It's message ministers to mothers and fathers as well as sons and daughters. Every time I set it down after reading it, I felt inspired to become a better daughter myself, and try to offer everything I do to the Lord.

This was an awesome read!

TRAMA:
Medio Evo, Svezia meridionale.

This is the second book by Lamplighter Publishing that I have read, both lent to me by a friend. I loved this simple story about adversity and hardship set in the time of castles and knights. I love the following quotes: "A thousand apparently trifling circumstances transpire, in the course of our lives, to which we pay but little attention, but which are productive of the most important results, and determine the lot of hundreds and thousands of our race....Thus the providence of God is displayed in the apparently unimportant events of our lives. As the skillful musician knows how to unite a variety of sounds, and even introduce occasional discords, in order to produce a most admirable piece of music, so the wisdom of our Heavenly Father employs prosperous and adverse circumstances in our lives to accomplish His wise and gracious designs with us. If we would but more frequently and attentively dwell upon the various events which characterize our lives, how often woudl we find occasion to admire the wisdom and goodness of God displayed in His providence." Though the conversation is stinted in that characters do not speak like this in real life, the simple wisdom and the story unfolded in this novel are so good.

I enjoyed the book, but would love to find an English translation published by a Catholic Press. Von Schmid was a Catholic Priest in addition to being an author so I wonder how much of text was "modified" as this edition.

Read this at my daughter's recommendation after she read it for her fourth time. Best use of an airplane ride I've made for awhile. Didn't want to put it down. Finished it up today.

This book had no adventure, not to mention it was written like a Shakespearean book . Idk, maybe I would like it better if I was in the mood for it.
