Would you sell your soul to save someone you love? I did and it was a mistake. Driven to desperate measures, Morgan strikes a dangerous deal with a local crossroads demon, hoping to save the man she loves when he falls fatally ill. Little does she know that her decision will set in motion a chain of events with dire consequences. "Dealer's Will" immerses you in a prequel of dark choices and haunting consequences. As Morgan makes her fateful deal, the boundaries between light and darkness blur, and the line between salvation and damnation becomes perilously thin.
Brace yourself for a thrilling journey into the depths of temptation, sacrifice, and the blurred line between love and regret.
"Dealer's Will" is set as a prelude to the riveting saga "Dealer's Choice," this tantalizing tale unravels the secrets behind Morgan's origin and why she is the way she is.
Warning: This story contains violence and a brief scene that is sexual in nature.
Spice level: This series is Urban Fantasy and light in romance
Thank you to the author for the eARC, this review is my own unbias opinion.
I really enjoyed this prequel novella. I felt like it was well written and gave an excellent taste into the series. Morgan; a siren was a great character, I liked her so much. She stood up for what she wanted and was fierce and loyal. I really felt for her as the story progressed and by the end of the novella I was livid for her, whilst applauding her - Trying to be vague to keep the spoilers away. I can't wait to read more about Morgan. All the characters in this novel, love them or hate them all brought something to the table and made this novella a brilliant read.
Liz Cain is a new to me author but she will definitely be on my list to read more from.
I received an ARC copy of this book. All opinions are my own and freely given.
This book is novella prequel for a future series. This was such a fun book. It starts in a more modern setting but quickly whisks us away to a time when women were still burned as witches. Our FMC Morgan is a young and idealistic siren who captures the attention of the local catch. Through a series of manipulations they are wed and she is trapped. This book details Morgan's transition from naive innocent siren to a more world wise immortal. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series
What a fascinating beginning to a series and a beautifully tragic origin story of Morgan. She was betrayed by her entire village and sadly not aware enough of her powers at the time. She sealed her own fate, trying to protect someone she thought she loved. I cannot wait to see where this leads to.
This is a short prequel novella. I think it does at great job at setting the scene, world building and hooking you in. I am keen to read this series!
Morgan is sweet, has been sheltered her whole life. I feel like she is wearing rosey coloured glasses her whole life up until the end of this novella. I love that she is a siren!
I can’t wait for book one to come out!
Trigger warnings there is violence, death and manipulation.
This story packs a big punch for a novella, making me even more excited for the upcoming series! Morgan, an impressionable young siren who is just excited to attend the village dance, hoping to catch the eye of her handsome crush. Such an innocent night that ultimately triggers a heartbreaking cascade of events. Even though I knew a deal with the demon was part of the plot, it took me completely by surprise as to how it happened! Liz has co-wore several books and I love those, but her first outing as a solo author is absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I really enjoyed this novella. Would you do a deal with a demon to save someone you love? This is exactly what Morgan does to save her husband from illness. She’s a siren and no human is allowed to know what she or her family is. The twist at the end I didn’t see coming. I didn’t like the husband from the beginning. He was possessive over Morgan. She meets Alaric (the demon) to strike a deal. I can’t wait until book 1 comes out and to find out what happens. I’m very excited for this 😈
I really enjoyed this short novella for this new series from a new to me author. I picked up the first full book in this series as an ARC (which I am reading next!) so thought I would grab the prequel to see how it all started for the FMC Morgan.
Mostly, set back 500 years in a time when women were not viewed as equals to their male counterparts and were still burned at the stake, Morgan is a siren living a secret life. No one but her mother knows what she is or what she can do (although Morgan doesn't really know much about that either!), but eventually someone does find out and wants to use her for their own gain. Morgan was a great character, even at a young age and was surprisingly strong-willed for a woman of that time. I can't wait to see how the next 500 years have changed her and what her situation with Alaric is now!
I am a sucker for a good fantasy story. Especially one with such wonderful world building and well fleshed-out characters. This was a pretty quick read, at around 150 pages, and I devoured it!
Morgan is a great character. I really enjoyed watching her come into her own while learning about herself, her family, and the secrets they keep. I wasn't expecting that ending though, and I am completely invested now! Can't wait for the rest of Morgan's story!!
I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series as it becomes available. Between this and Rotten To The Core, Liz Cain is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
We meet a very different Morgan in the beginning of the book. We then get to the meat of the story which is Morgan's backstory. Or should I say some of it because I have a feeling there is more to come from our fair heroine. Author Liz Cain has a way with words that just pulls you into a scene. Even though this book is just meant as an introduction for Dealer's Choice, the story is well developed. Definitely a top ten read.
This was a quick and easy read, with plenty that happened in what I would consider a short novella. There wasn't a heap of world building and some of the dialogue was flat, however I still really enjoyed the storyline and feel that it brings a greater insight into the FMC which has me excited for the rest of the series. I especially liked that the prologue introduces the FMC as she is now before going back in time to her past to show her backstory as her personality is drastically different in the two and if not for knowing the type of person she becomes I think I would have become annoyed with her. I also love that the author chose the FMC to be a siren which isn't common for urban fantasy.
Although this is to be an urban fantasy much of this novella is set in the distant past. I am looking forward to the magic system and world building being expanded upon in the series as I was left with more questions than answers.
I am apart of the Books and Bitches ARC Team and received a copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.
A short prequel that introduces Morgan, a supernatural being, and gives you just a sweet taste that will leave you jumping to Dealer's Choice! A solid start in modern Chicago that jumps 500 years give or take ;) to launch Morgan's tale!
2023: I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review. Wow. What a teaser. This novella was fantastic. I absolutely cannot wait to see where this story goes and am already burning to read the first book.
This was such a dark, emotional, and incredibly intriguing story! I loved seeing the main character's past, even though I already knew what happened. The details made it so much more powerful, and I'm so glad I read this prequel!
It’s nice to have some insight into a character, Liz has done that with this novella. Going forward into the series it will help to understand where Morgan’s actions are coming from. It’s going to be a long wait but I will be looking forward to it.
I enjoyed this prequel to what i believe will be an exciting series. I liked Morgan as a character and looking forward to finding out more about her Siren ancestry. There are some characters i believe we are going to love to hate and loved the fact morgan fights for what she wants.
Really good read. Nice easy to read. Good plot and fun to get to know the characters. Can't wait to read what happens next. Lovely short story to get us interested in the rest, and it works. Really enjoyed it.
This book is amazing. I'm in love with Morgan, a half siren who wants to go to the village dance and hopes to dance with the man of her dreams. So many twists and turns. A must read.
The awesome story is strong and packs a generous punch or colour , plot and characters this is the prequel to the series and I enjoyed the book throughly
So this book starts off in the present and you meet Morgan the main character...and you’re like well she is quite the bad ass looking for trouble...then the book takes you back and gives you her history. You fall in love with her. I related to this character in so many ways...at least the younger more innocent me. She is not human but lives in a human world, she loves with her whole heart, you can tell she is strong and determined even at a young age when still is discovering herself and her powers. I recommend this book. I am looking forward to the next...like I need it now.
I had never read this author before, but the blurb for this novella really drew me in and I requested it. Oh, my, I fell in love with the main character Morgan. She was so very naïve when she made the deal with the demon. And I felt her anger like it was my own when she found out some manipulations from the person that she thought loved her. I’m really, really looking forward to seeing how a few hundred years have changed her. We see a tiny glimpse of that at the beginning of this, but I really want to see a lot more. Bring on the next one! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Dealers Will by Liz Cain is prequel story to an upcoming story. This book gives a lot of background information for her upcoming books. I think that’s vital to help the reader understand the characters better. I really am glad to get to see Morgan before she makes the deal and understand why she did it. This also introduces Alaric and what he is up to and how his life interconnects with Morgan’s. I am so glad Liz Cain gave us this glimpse into their backstory so we can understand everything better. Definitely check this book out! As always Liz Cain wrote an excellent book.
Was a prequel! If this is the start I honest can’t wait for the rest of this series!! Morgan is a young girl in love and who in love hasn’t made a mistake or two? She sends her grieving mother off to heal with her distant family by the ocean where their “kind” can find solace. However, in Morgan’s naïveté, her new husband uses her to set some tricks that she isn’t aware of. Add in a Demon who wants Morgan and deals are struck to save her man. This book will have you flipping pages quickly to find out what happens next… you’ve been warned.
This book is intriguing and so exciting, I couldn’t put it down. Morgan was a demon, but no one knew it. She had made some friends and found out the Hunter's were in town but was supposedly there to kill any demons. Young kids were selling their souls, and Morgan had to stop it. Morgan was afraid her friends would get hurt, so instead of leaving town, she was going to help the kids get away from the Hunter's. The story is electrifying. Great story!
Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC.
This was an interesting novella that acts as a prequel to a future series. The first chapter is set in the current day but the rest of the novella is set approximately 1000 years in the past.
I’m intrigued to see the direction the plot takes in the main series as there are certain characters I’d like to know more about, like Morgan’s best friend and family - but I’m not sure if they’ll play a part in the upcoming series. I’m also interested in finding out more about the changes hinted at in the last chapter.
Even though he’s not in the story very much, I think Alaric may be my favourite character.
I found the change from present day to the past a little jolting and actually had to go back to the start once I had finished it to check I was thinking of the same novel.
I want to write a very honest review. I loved the beginning of this book with Morgan looking for action and being Sassy. I felt bad for her family as we went back in time to learn about her life story and what made her like this.
She has done her best despite some dire circumstances, no doubt about it.
Nathanial was cute, and the ending was heart breaking in the best of ways. If you love Urban fantasy with the Supernatural, you're in for quite a ride and this is just the beginning!
Thank you to Liz Cain for the e-arc. My review is based on my own opinion.
I loved everything about this story. The way Liz has written this novella is fantastic everything flows so well. With every page turn I was like what's going to happen? I must have heard Morgan's siren song as I was entranced. I loved Morgan and from the beginning I didn't trust Henrick. I can't wait for Dealer's Choice.
This novella is a great introduction to Morgan, who we meet in a modern setting but dive headfirst into her backstory - 1,000 years ago, when her sirens song is both a gift and a curse.
There is some questionable use of said gift which leads to a chain of events which set Morgan towards a fate she could not avoid if she tried.
Excellent prequel to what promises to be an awesome series, I'm really looking forward to what happens next in the paranormal world the author has created!
