This was absolutely brilliant! Edge-of-your-seat thrilling and so much fun! A must-read for any serious sci-fi fan. It took a few chapters to hook me, but once it did... oh boy it did. I couldn't put it down. Such imagination and creativity yet still familiar, it feels like good old-fashioned sci-fi (in the best possible way). Serious fun, and great narrator's voice, not to mention strong female characters. Heavy on language for my taste (very frequent use of f***) but I barely noticed it because I was so engrossed in the story. I can't wait to read the next one!

I downloaded this book for free on Amazon. Having downloaded it with other several books I completely forgot what it was that interested me.

At first I was quite impressed by the author gritty and blunt writing style. The tone was that of a detective story - I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the author decided that the mystery/action plot was an appetizer for a sci-fi story - my enjoyment waned.

In fairness, the story ended just as the sci-fi plot was beginning to do something. This was the difference between "liked it" and "its was ok" for me. Would I pick up book 2? Doubtful. The abrupt switch from gritty, hard-nosed mystery to far-flung, sci-fi mystery was just too much of a leap for me to really sink back into the storyline.
