Unleashing Chaos

Rate this book
Desideria is looking for true love…
When your father, the king of demons, tells you to find an eternal partner in ninety days, you do it―because the alternative is worse.

Jace’s heart is shattered and guarded…
All I asked for was a quiet roommate to help with the bills instead I got a sassy demon princess.

Cannon wants everyone to be happy, but …
Sure, I want to help my friends, but I’ve got ambitions too.

Infernis help them.

A visit to the human realm is Desi’s last-ditch effort to find the partner of her dreams―she wants to marry for love―but with only three months to fall head over heels and take someone home to her chaotic family in Infernis, it seems impossible.

When every date Desi goes on ends in disaster, she enlists the help of her two handsome roommates. While one is friendly and fun, willing to help in any way he can, the other is stern and impenetrable, resolute in his theory that everlasting love isn’t possible. But as much as she’d like to deny it, Desideria is an agent of chaos, and she quickly starts knocking down walls and crossing boundaries–in every aspect of her romantic life..

Maybe it was kismet that landed Desi in Denver, but the choice she and her new friends have to make will define not only their futures, but that of an entire realm.

HOLY SNACK CAKES! Looking for a paranormal romance with plenty of banter, spice, and happily ever after? Just pick up this book--you won't put it down.

Unleashing Chaos is the incredibly steamy love child of a paranormal 90-day fiancé but with a sassy demon princess, hot nerds, and handsome roommates.

forced proximity ✓
fake dating ✓
anxiety rep ✓
dual POV ✓
grumpy x sunshine ✓
praise ✓
tension!!! ✓
seven deadly sins HELLO ✓

And that's just to name a few of the tropes this book encompasses... the spice is so good y'all, but the tension and buildup: *chef's kiss*

Desi--I relate to her so dang much. And following her dating ups and downs makes me thankful I'm happily married and not in the dating pool haha!

Jace--my sweet broken boy. Oh I just want to wrap him up in a blanket burrito and smother him in hugs.

Cannon--seriously can I have a bestie like you? Maybe I'm just a sucker for the golden retriever types.

ALSO I'M CRYING AT THE DEDICATION ♥

Unleashing Chaos is going to be my favorite book published in 2024--I just know it! Thank you to the authors Crystal & Felicity, the publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This took me forever to finish lol

I didn’t love Desi. For someone so obsessed with the human world, she felt so naive. And I just couldn’t connect to her or the rest of the characters.

I read this one so quickly!! From the cover, it seemed good and I really enjoyed the paranormal romance rom com it ended up being. I loved the banter and the grumpy sunshine trope, even though the sunshine was a literal demon.

Like Jace likes everything in perfect order, no disarray whatsoever, and in walks in a demon princess. Along with another roommate who forms a triangle dynamic but also not really. So if you don’t like the love triangle trope, don’t pass this one up just because of that, it’s not really prevalent. You know you’re supposed to be going for Jace.

I also enjoyed Desi’s lack of knowledge of the human realm. They were some real laugh out loud moments.

Also as I write this I realize I actually met these lovely ladies at a local book convention here in New Orleans! Checking my bookshelf, I bought Edge of the Veil from them. Glad to be supporting them on this book! I really enjoyed it.

Thank you Wattpad and Literally Yours PR for the copy for review!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️ 🌶️

"Desideria, your chaos is so fucking beautiful that sometimes, I wish it would devour me."

Tropes:
😈 Dual POV
😈 Fake Dating
😈 "Fuck it"
😈 One Bed

This was a quick, fun read, with somehow almost every trope I can think of. They really packed it all in! We follow Desi, a princess of hell who needs to find her love in the human world, so they can rule together for eternity. A slow to medium burn romance, and an overall entertaining read. My only criticism would be that I found Desi to be a little bit too naïve. I understand she’s from another world, but it made the beginning of the book a little frustrating.

“Fuck it, I lied”

^^ There were some great moments of tension as well (I love the “fuck it” trope)

Looking for a sexy fantasy-esque read? Then this one could be for you. It is on the lighter side of fantasy with a good amount of romance, so I feel that I can safely say that this book is a romantasy.
The story is set against the backdrop of modern Denver, Colorado. Desi, a demon from Infernis, is given 90 days in the human realm to find her eternal partner before taking on her role as the queen of the Circle of Sloth. She finds a place to stay with two roommates and embarks on her journey of finding her forever partner through online dating. This does not go as planned, but good thing she has two handsome men as roommates. Cannon is charming and treats Desi with respect, they become very good friends over the course of the story. Jace is another matter. There is an undeniable attraction between Desi and Jace, as much as there is a strong resistance from Jace. He has been hurt pretty badly in the past and his reasons for pulling away are very justified. There is good banter between the two of the them, some fake dating too. And since they are roommates, we are treated to the forced proximity - and it really is a treat to see these two characters come together. Once they finally give in to the attraction, their sexual experiences build up gradually.
I love the description of heaven and hell as peace and chaos, where energies (souls) take occupancy upon death. Instead of good and bad, the energies rest where their energy fits best. Overall the story was interesting and there is a bit of a twist at the end that I had a feeling was coming, but I still rather enjoyed the denouement.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a romantasy with a good amount of tension and a number of fun tropes.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Wattpad Books for an e-arc of this book. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Thoughts:

- I dunno if I like Jace. I get it that he had baggage. But he did not seem like an alpha male to me. Just giving orders doesn't make a man alpha🙄 He was more like a nerdy commitment-phobic beta.

- What is it with men and Princess Leia fantasy😂 Reminded me of 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Friends'

- I didn't like how the fantasy world was written. It could've been more interesting. Wish it was handled better. Some stuff was not clear. How did H become immortal? Did he have any powers like h?

- Oh Cannon. I could not make myself to dislike him. He was an amazing friend.

- I liked Glen and Mandis. Glen was hilarious.

- Wish the epilogue was better. I wanted to see the couple with kids.

Unleashing Chaos follows along a demon princess named Desideria, who was given 90 days to find her eternal partner in the human realm. There's more to ends meet between her introverted roommate.

This book is perfect for those who want to start fantasy if you want something different to dive into in the New Adult genre. I love our sassy and confident Desi. There's not a single dull moment in her POV. Radiated queen energy since the beginning. Jace Wilder, I have nothing to say but to give you a big hug. I understand his struggle, and every time I read his pov, my heartstrings tugs. The pacing of the book between Desi and Jace relationship is well done. It shows that it takes time to figure it out. I'm proud of Jace. Then we have Cannon, and he was a great friend to Desi and Jace. He has a great platonic friendship with Desi. i really admire. Im jealous of what they had😭 That ending, tho? I feel bad for him😭I absolutely loved the dynamic between Glen and Mandis from the beginning.

The fantasy world was good without too much info dumping, and it wasn't too complex either. It was every easy to follow along. The writing was perfect.

It was a great book, though I wished to know how Jace survives in the demon realm, and I want to see their kids!!🥹

A demon princess with only 90 days to find someone to marry and take back to her world for all eternity living with a nerdy graphic designer with anxiety? What could possibly go wrong? I love opposites attract and in this case, I adored how Jace and Desi complemented each other. I was immediately drawn into their story!

I love paranormal creates and some fantasy in my romances but I also don't want to have to learn too much about the geography of another world or hear about a fictional war. What I do want? Demons who can smell lust that drop in and point out you are horny for your roommate who you say is just a friend. This was the perfect level of paranormal for me.

I did struggle a bit with some of the middle of this book. I felt like we could have lost 50 pages or so but I did like that Jace saw a therapist for his anxiety and the therapist was helpful. Not all anxiety is the result of a trauma but it can happen so I think Jace's story made sense. I liked that Desi supported Jace when he was anxious and didn't judge him.

If you enjoy a fun paranormal story with lots of contemporary tropes check this one out! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one and will definitely be checking out other books by this duo!

Thank you Edelweiss for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others.

From the beginning of this book, I really liked the humor in this book.

Desi is a charater that I liked and reading this story from her POV was nice. She’s smart, funny and has some kind of self confidence that’s great to read.

The two main male characters were well developed.
I had to grow into Jace, there were times I thought I got to know him and like him, when he had a panic attack of his anxiety came up. But there were also a lot of times when I didn’t understand him or his actions. The push and pull throughout this book got me annoyed and I didn’t see much in common between them besides the physical chemistry until much later in the book. Unlike Cannon, who I liked from the very start, who was really nice and straightforward from the beginning.

Fans of Neon Gods by Katee Roberts will absolutely love this book and I definitely recommend reading this book to readers who love a spicy romantasy.

It’s so rare to find a paranormal romance book where SHE is the demon, so I’ve been really excited for Unleashing Chaos. The premise of a demon coming to the human world to find an eternal partner or else is really fun and interesting, and I thought the spice was really good.

This dragged a little bit in the later part of the book, but the end was action packed. Desi was a little naive for my tastes, but I still had fun with this.

This book has really great anxiety/GAD representation and it’s handled with such care. One of the authors has GAD and you can tell they really put an importance on accurate representation while being sure to handle it in a sensitive way.

Highlights:
- Romance: MF
- Demon x human
- Fake dating/engagement
- Grumpy x sunshine
- The broken boy
- Roommates
- Forced proximity
- Only one bed
- Anxiety rep

Note: I received an advance readers copy. Decision to read/review was my own. Opinion is my own.

RATING: 4.5/5

I was so thrilled that I got the opportunity to review “Unleashing Chaos.” The tropes alone had me eager to drop everything and start reading: fake dating, forced proximity, roommates to lovers, anxiety rep (MMC), touch her/touch him and die, spicy, curvy FMC, and did I mention that the FMC is a demon princess. Yes, there’s that little tidbit.

Desi’s father, the king of demons, has given her 90 days to find a life partner––or else. And, of course, she wants to find love. She has her roommates help her: her best friend, Cannon, and her other roommate, Jace, whom she likes a lot.

The thing about “Unleashing Chao” is that it takes the PNR themes and integrates them into more mainstream. For readers entering the PNR genre or who enjoy reading a story with modern elements, “Unleashing Chao” is perfect.

The romance storyline was sweet. I loved Jace and Desi. They had terrific chemistry. The authors described Jace’s mannerisms in so much detail that I could honestly get a sense of how he was feeling.

Like most PNR stories, expect character and story building at the front end. There is spice, but things heat up a bit later, which I don’t mind. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Read for:
- Forced-proximity
- Dual POV
- Mental illness rep
- Paranormal, demon-involved romance

I unfortunately did have to DNF this book after a few chapters. The writing did not flow very well, it was poorly edited, and the EPUB was not formatted well at all. The latter I expect to be something that is changed prior to the official release, but it needed to be said.

The premise is something that will certainly draw future readers in, especially those looking for something steamy and paranormal. It scratches all the right itches. However, I do not jive with the overall execution. For that reason, I am giving it a 2/5 - it's good, but it has some errors, and its format is not right for me.

2.75 ⭐️ for a cute romantic read!

• Really not much paranormal stuff going on
• It’s a feel good romance with a happy, easy ending
• Good amount of smut towards the second half of the book.
• Not worth 400+ pages but not boring at least.

I think I went into this with my expectations a little too high. Every time I saw this come across my feed, it was a rave review. And while this book isn’t bad, it simply didn’t wow me.

Desi is a demon princess who comes to earth to find her true love in ninety days. Jace is a man with major trust issues due to previous betrayals, and Cannon is a generic nice guy/best friend.

I liked Desi's relationship with both of the guys. Platonic with Cannon and romantic with Jace. But I couldn’t fully invest in the romance for some reason, and given that this book is primarily romance driven this hindered my ability to enjoy the book.

Overall, it just doesn’t stand out in a sea of books.

First of all, I just want to say thank you to the authors and Netgalley for a chance to read this ARC. It was a blast, truly. There was such an epic love story and Desi’s life was so intriguing to read about. Her world was one that I couldn’t get enough of reading about! Plus, two dorky MMC’s who were hot and steamy roommates of hers? Yes please, sign me up! Desi’s relationship with her brothers was another thing I loved in this- but that may just be the sibling in me craving such realistic depictions of a sibling relationship in more books.
This book was serious when it needed to be, funny and witty, and spicy in alllllll the right ways. So many aspects of this book I thought were so well done, and truly enjoyed reading such an impressive arc. The lore was fascinating and I can’t wait to read more by these great authors!!!!
This overall was a rating of 3.75, but rounded up to 4 stars :)

- Paranormal Romance
- Swoon Worthy Banter
- Dual POV
- Fake Dating
- Alpha-hole
- Anxiety Representation
- 90-day eternal partner
- “Fuck It”
- Praise

You will not want to put this book down! 🙌🏻 Unleashing Chaos is beautifully written paranormal romance based on the 7 deadly sins. Between the real-world elements and paranormal world elements Crystal and Felicity seamlessly brought together a romance to DIE for and to become a little bit chaotic within our own selves.

This book brings in so many amazing tropes throughout their 90-days that you become obsessed with what’s next. Obviously the “Fuck It” moments have me by the chokehold, but at the end of it all the growth of Desi and her relationships with Jace and Cannon make this book a top contender for my favourite 2024 book.

Join Desi on her adventure to find her eternal partner in 90-days while battling the reality of dating in the real-world! Plus enjoy some nerdy Star Wars references throughout.

May the force be with you little hurricane 😍

Oh my Hades!!!
When I tell you I have not been addicted to a book like this in a while... maybe ever! I spent every free moment of my time trying to devour a chapter. This book is sexy, but completely unpredictable which makes it unique and exceptional.

Jace is infuriating and complex at times but it only makes you want his happy ending so much more.

The worlds created in this book are so different but relatable, and I want more of them!

This book had the perfect amount of twists and turns paired with lust. Unleashing Chaos is the perfect title for this book. It makes you fall in love with imperfection in the best way and highlights so many fears many have about love making it relatable in a way some novels are not. I cannot recommend this book enough for anyone who likes spicy, hot, and addicting romance novels... with a twist.

I went into this read with very little context for what I got into, simply because I enjoy chaos. I was not disappointed. Desi is a demon, who is destined to reign over a circle of hell, but first she needs to find love. Well, at least someone she can tolerate spending an eternity with. None of the demons she met in the last 100 year caught her interest for long, so obviously she decides to look for love in the human realm. She winds up with two very attractive roommates and a whole lot of romance tropes to explore over the course of the book. There's a bit of fake dating, some forced proximity, grumpy and shine, all combined with nerd love, solid banter, and so much chemistry.

Solid, slightly chaotic read. Totally worth picking up!

My emotions while reading this:

😂😀🤣🤣🥵😂😍🥵😍😭😍🥵😭😭😭😲🙄😑🥹😍

I loved this. From the very beginning it was fantastic. Desi was so fun and sweetly naive and loving. Jace is the nerdy dom who holds my heart. And cannon is the friend we all need. The chemistry was everything. Between all of them. Loved the plot. Loved the character development. The ending with cannon was not the best. But I think that was more of a writing issue. It felt rushed and random. And honestly the death by cake was kinda stupid. But other than that this is a new favorite. I can’t wait to read more from these authors.

The way I DEVOURED this book is unreal but I couldn’t get enough of the characters and their stories both together and individually. When I wasn’t reading this book, I was thinking about it and anxiously awaiting the end of a work shift or adult responsibilities so that I could be reading it again. This is definitely one that I will read again someday. 10/10

What’s what:
Desi is a demon princess who needs to find an eternal partner before taking over her own Circle in Infernis (where all the demons live). She was not having luck finding another demon as a partner, so she has been allowed to enter the human realm for 90 days to find a human partner. While there, she meets Jace and Cannon while apartment hunting. Both Cannon and Desi end up moving in with Jace.

Desi attempts to learn about dating (and the joys of dating apps) while subsequently becoming closer with her roommates, and continuing the search for a partner. *Not a love triangle*.

My thoughts:
For as long as this book was, I felt both the fantasy and romance aspects were underdeveloped, which really caused it to drag. There were so many pages that added absolutely nothing to the story, or development of the plot or characters. I will say I thought the last 15% picked up quite nicely again (though why it had to wait until this close to the end I don’t know), but what about the 40% before that? It took me 3 days to read the middle section of this book. I kept putting it down because it wasn’t holding my interest.

After reading this, I’m not quite sure why Desi and Jace liked each other, or if there even was a reason beyond “chemistry” *cough* they thought the other was hot*. There were glimpses where it all started to come together for me, but then it seemed to be a 1 step forward and 2 steps back situation.

I did enjoy the anxiety representation in one of the main characters, and appreciate how light is shed here. What I think would have helped make this aspect stronger was if the authors would have revealed some of the why earlier on. I don’t need to read over and over that Jace has anxiety or he has issues. Tell me why, shoe me why that impacts his decisions, even if they are breadcrumbs to help me understand later. There was already so much going on and rushed at the end of the book, the explanation for the anxiety was not in the right place.

I found it confusing near the end of the story that all of a sudden several characters were determined to not be human? Or at least have their symbols? But at other times it mentions the human has to pick where their energy goes when they die. It felt contradictory to the earlier stages of the book where it seemed much less likely that angels and demons were just coexisting in the human realm.

This isn’t a bad story by any means, but in my honest opinion it could have used some additional beta readers. With the flow being off and what I felt to be an underdeveloped story, I was not as hooked by this one as I wanted to be. Still a decent read with an interesting concept and some fun dialogue.

*An ARC was received in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to love this, but as a reader of multiple genres I just didn’t. Here’s why:

Unleashing Chaos makes its focus romance only including about 5 chapters (I didn’t count. It’s a rough estimate.) in the paranormal realm of Infernis where the FMC is from. I know there were stipulations/rules put into place to prevent humans entering this realm but it severely limited the paranormal aspects. One could take away all of the paranormal in this book and still walk away with a pretty decent romance story filled with tropes, one liners, and a little bit of cringe. However, the creativity behind Infernis, the characters, the works itself is impeccable and could have been worked as a demon & human fantasy/paranormal series.

I just wanted more. Its potential was so much more than a romance with some paranormal tucked into it.

Much love to Crystal Johnson & Felicity Vaughn for being great writers & writing a book that left me wanting an entire fantasy/paranormal series from. But the romance just didn’t round it out.

I think I went into this with high hopes with what sounded to be a great plot but was let down a bit in my opinion. The fantasy aspect was great and not too much of a fantasy overload, if you get what I mean. I just could not connect with the main characters and it was just a bit too long for me.

I was about 50/50 for Desi, for someone who was so excited and loved the human world. She lacked the basic knowledge but she was sassy and confident which I love in a FMC.

Jace was just meh for me. Same as desi, I was 50/50 on him. Didn't love him, didn't hate him just couldn't connect with him.

Now Cannon, I LOVEEEEEEED Cannon and wish we got more of him. He was so sweet and such an amazing friend.

I wish that the epilogue was better and we got a glimpse into their kids and more on the couple overall.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as did. Reading the blurb it didn’t seem like a book that would one that catch my attention or two keep me interested for long. I was so wrong.

The story of Desi and Jace, how they find one another, learn from one another, find the peace and chaos balanced in each other…it was beautiful. I laughed, I cried, I smiled hard and enjoyed the ride that was this story! This book isn’t going to be one that will be a “I’m going to rave and talk for ever about it!” but it was an easy read, entertaining, fun, and so relatable all the way through. I enjoyed it for everything it was!! May we all find the kind of engulfing love that Desi and Jace found!

Desi's race against time to find love was both heart-pounding and hilarious. The mix of sassy demons and dashing roommates spices up the pages, and the book’s playful nod to mental health gives it a surprising touch of realness.

At times, I wished the pacing took its foot off the pedal so I could savor the moments more, but all in all, it was a wild ride I’m glad I didn’t miss.

Cons: Could have used more magic and paranormal elements.

ARC via NetGalley.

Put a grumpy man in glasses and you have me in the palm of your hand.

Desi has 90 days in the human world to find an eternal partner. She has little knowledge of how anything works but manages to find herself two hot roommates in the perfect house. And then she tries the dating scene. It's...hilarious and painful, and makes it blatantly obvious that she needs the two men in her life to help her figure things out, even when the perfect person is right in front of her and won't let her in.

Jace is the owner of the house, Cannon is the other roommate. Despite the tension when they first cohabitate, the friendship between the three of them is wonderful to read. Even as Desi fights her attraction to a very broken, no relationships ever Jace, the foundation of real connection is there in the way they tease and help each other, and what they bond over. Because Desi and Cannon are easier with each other, their friendship grows first, but as Desi and Jace get more comfortable, their relationship does too.

Jace is somehow both understandable, even relatable, but also beyond frustrating. I wanted to shake him so hard and scream at him to wake up. Stop letting the bad things win. Because when he's good, he's so incredibly good. Dedicated, charming, silly, and able to put up a very good front when it matters. Without spoilers, I will say this had one of the best therapy scenes I've read in a book, and it made a difference for the character's decision. Jace is also super sexy so you're going to forgive him a lot even when you think he's being an idiot.

I enjoyed the concept of the afterlife presented here - it's neutral and not overly religious, while also tapping into mythology, theology, and concepts that a lot of people are familiar with.

I did not see the events of the end coming, and it had me on the edge of my seat figuring out how it was going to resolve. Some drama and secrets, grand gestures, and a wayward snack cake keep you going. The book as a whole builds and builds and then just explodes into all sorts of action. I had fun with it.

The highlight of the writing here is the way they describe Desi and Jace pining for the other. Poetic, desperate, sad, and lusty, it was some of my favorite parts of the book even when those moments were also angsty.

Also, they turned a dorky lightsaber fight into very hot flirting, so...that's reason enough to read this.

This was super cringy and when I saw it was published by Wattpad Books it made more sense. The banter was immature and the scene where they run into his ex-fiancé gave me so much second hand embarrassment I almost DNF’d it right then. The spice redeemed the cringy dialogue but oh my god this did not need to be 400 pages.
