The Phantoms are back with a vengeance… and the City of Angels will never be the same.
JENSEN:
Chasing my pro hockey dreams in the City of Angels has been a relentless battle. Each season feels like starting over, and being miles away from my family only adds to the struggle. I don’t know what I would do without my online gaming friends. Especially @Empress.
I know nothing about her—not even her real name—but what I do know with certainty is that our chats are my lifeline. I wish she would let me in, but she guards her secrets even more closely than I do.
A chance encounter puts us in the same room together, and the attraction IRL is next level. But before I can make my play, she disappears. I'm desperate to find her again and my meddling, matchmaking mother shows up just in time to help. Can I convince her that I'll be there no matter what she's hiding? Or will we both get hit hard in this real life game of love?
This was my first book by Kat, and definitely won’t be the last❣️I need to finish a few other books and then I’m jumping into the Phantoms series.
This story is a bit different but in a good and unique way. Bailey is an Oscar winning actress, who has been out of the spotlight for a few years following an accident. Jensen is a professional hockey player, who plays for the Phantoms. He meets Bailey through their online gaming and a chance coincidence has them meeting and sparks flying😍 Mama Bang is there for it all and to push Jensen in reaching out to the stunning woman and possibly continuing her ‘matchmaking’ prowess😇
I’m excited to see who Mama Bang is dropping by next but also getting stuck into the Phantoms and finding out what happens to the team and more about Ivan🙃 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
Hit ‘em Hard by Kat Mizera This is the third book in the Bang Brothers Hockey series, it can be read as a standalone.
Bailey was physically assaulted by her boyfriend when she broke up with him on the ride home from an awards show. He went absolutely rage bananas and caused an accident that killed the driver and left Bailey disabled. He got away without a scratch or jail time. Boo Dirk!
We feel so many of Bailey's emotions as she works on healing. She is in constant physical pain, has severe anxiety, PTSD, and has shut herself off from the world. Except for a few friends and her gamer family. The press in Hollywood is awful, especially to women. Bailey is absolutely aware of the possible stories if she is recognized in public.
Jensen is a romantic at heart. His care of Bailey is the stuff of swooning legend! He is as patient with her as possible, while also asking for what he needs. He gets a huge wakeup call when she is recognized in an obnoxious ambush.
I loved the scene when Bailey's agent is reading her the positive comments. And Bailey realizes that she can be disabled and be a role model.
I got the Bang Brothers series through their Kickstarter because I thought the premise was just wacky enough and I liked some of the authors already. I'm halfway through the series, and each book has been so good! I didn't know about Bailey's disability going into the book, but once I read more, it became clear to me that I would be reviewing this wonderful story for #ReadDisabled2024. This book is for the prompt Romance or Contemporary Book with a Disabled Main Character.
Super sweet and satisfying read, Jensen is up there giving King a run for his money for first place as my favourite... Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I didn't cry at any point while reading so it didn't take me on the full emotional rollercoaster. I did stay up far too late at night because I was engrossed, and then as soon as I woke up I started reading again and refused to get up until I absolutely had to. So I loved the story and characters, well most of them. Dirk can eat a bag of d!cks.
Another well written hockey romance from an author I've known and loved for a while. And it's so refreshing to have a story that doesn't end with a run for the cup! That is becoming far too predictable these days and honestly this works with Jensen playing for the worst team in the league. The only way is up right? I need to read more books in the LA Phantom series as I'm out of date with this author so I'll be putting Power Play to the top of my TBR since I have a physical copy. But first, on to the next Bang brother!
I've read the 3 Phantom books and Jenson and Bailey have been in the background. So it was great reading this one to see how they started. Very unconventional, but it worked for them. The anonymity allowed them to get to know each other without their professions hanging over their heads, so finally meeting in person was great. It was nice that they had the time to just be a couple before what Bailey thought would happen, happened. It sucked how things went down, sucked more that Bailey got scared and ran, but in the end things worked out for them and that is all that is important.
Bailey was on her way to Hollywood A-list stardom when an accident caused by her then asshole boyfriend left her with physical, emotional and mental damage. Now she lives the life of a recluse, until a meeting with Jensen, a hockey player and gamer friend, whom she's never met in person. If he can get past her well built walls, Mama Bang and her meddling ways will be happy!
Jensen's career hasn't been in the positive column this season. His team isn't performing well, the owners are assholes, and the coach is a typical aggressive jock who just yells at his team all the time. If there's one bright side to his life, aside from his hilarious mom, and his gamer group of friends. Then he meets one of them in person and he is absolutely entranced by her. Now to convince her that she's as strong as he knows she is, that she can get out in public again and live a life outside of her home. And just as important, have love with him, even if she has to be in the public eye again.
Jensen is my new favorite in this series, well, aside from Mama Bang that is. He is so freaking sweet, caring, and a gooey cinnamon roll of a hero. He is absolutely perfect, the only one, for Bailey. He not only helps her heal and regain her strength of mind and body, but he helps her realize she deserves love and happiness. The two of them together made me smile and swoon, and Mama Bang made me laugh. These Bang Brothers are so hot and just waiting to fall in love, even if they don't realize it and need their mom to come along and nudge them along. Leif is up next in Lock 'em Down, I can't wait to find out who brings him to his knees with Mama's help.
These Bang brothers hockey series just keep on delivering up delicious romance with a fair amount of hockey sprinkled in and I am ABSOLUTELY loving this series! The LA Phantoms, Jensen and Kat Mizera did not disappoint in this book. At all! I love that we got a little glimpse into how the Phantoms organization was run before the start of Kat’s new series. It is a PERFECT time to start the Phantoms series but obviously also the Bang brothers series! Jensen Bang was such a surprise to me! He is very different from the brothers that we have already met. Jensen is quiet, content to do his own thing, and such a gooey cinnamon roll that is fiercely protective. Jensen is also extremely smart and has a lot of interests outside of hockey- but gaming might be his favorite! He has his group of gaming friends and they become some of his closest friends, especially when hockey becomes less fun than it used to be….because let’s face it the Phantoms were a complete train wreck. As a side note, I love how Mizera didn’t shy away from that aspect of Jensen’s life. Sometimes in books it is glorified how amazing a team is, but not in this one it was honest and really showed how the team was struggling not only on the ice but off it as well! Then there is Bailey. She really has had a rough go, and become a recluse very quickly, and very few people that she can rely on. Once a rising star in Hollywood a tragic accident set her back. While Bailey has few people in her circle, they are fiercely protective of her. Her circle balances being there for her while also pushing her out of her comfort zone. One of her favorite hobbies is gaming, that is where she can be who she really is, and not the former Hollywood star. I am a total sucker for an adorable “meet cute” and man did Mizera give us a good one! Their first time actually meeting was amazing, and the hilarity that ensued with Mama Bang was epic. Stella (or Mama Bang) has very quickly become a favorite character of mine! She has the perfect balance of mothering and meddling mother! Bailey and Jensen have been friends for a long time, but meeting in person it was clear that they had some undeniable chemistry. And this is where Jensen’s cinnamon roll side of him shines! The way he loves and challenges Bailey made my heart melt. And Bailey always seemed to know what Jensen was thinking and feeling when it came to the challenges he was facing at work. They were always so supportive of one another, and very quickly became one anothers person. I loved Jensen and Bailey so much and I am so happy that Kat gifted us with their story! If you enjoy a family series, protective friends, a kind and fierce hero this book should 100% be on your TBR list!
Hit 'Em Hard is book 3 in the Bang Brothers Hockey series and the prequel to the Phantoms Hockey series by Kat Mizera. So much happens in this book. There is an awards show, a tragedy, a friends to lovers, online to real life romance and a natural disaster.
Bailey is a famous movie star attending the Oscars awards ceremony. She is nominated for an award, but her fiance has an attitude and is being obnoxious. At the end of the event, she has made the decision to break her engagement to him. Unfortunately, he does not take it well. Their limo ends up in an accident, killing the driver and causing significant bodily damage to Bailey.
Three years, and many surgeries and rehabs, later, she has decided she is done with surgeries and rehab. She just deals with the pain. She has hidden away in her house, writing screenplays and playing an online game with a group of people she calls friends.
Jensen is a professional hockey player. His team is having a super rough year due to infighting in the ownership of the organization. Plus the coach's technique is to yell and make practice miserable instead of figuring out what the real issue is. So all of the players are frustrated and discouraged.
Jensen and Bailey have been online friends for over a year. When they run in to each other at a Mexican restaurant, he thinks it is her, but he is not sure. His mom, who has been visiting him, tells him to just ask her. He finally does about a week later and she freaks out thinking he is stalking her. When she finally gets over her fear and contacts him again, they set up a chaperoned date. I will admit I had to laugh at the chaperones, especially Jensen's mom.
When Bailey finally steps out in to the public eye, the Gods are not on her side. Unfortunately, it isn't the Gods causing the issue, but the Barrowman brothers, the men running the hockey team in to the ground due to their ineptitude. Bailey is blindsided by them, her ex and the press. She is so angry. In her haste to leave, she nearly trips and falls, but Jensen is there to catch her. When they get back to her house, she explains to him that this was what she has been trying to avoid for the last three years. He doesn't understand and leaves to give her some space.
When a natural disaster happens the very next day, Jensen is worried when he is unable to reach Bailey. He and Ivan go to check on her. What they find is his worst nightmare. Will he and Ivan be able to help Bailey? What is the impact to Bailey of what happened during the natural disaster? Will there be long term effects? Has either of them come to terms with happened the night before? Have they figured out a way to make it work? What will the future hold for Bailey, Jensen, Manny and the ex (Dirk)?
Kat Mizera's HIT 'em HARD is book #3 in the Bang Brothers series by multiple authors and part of her L.A. Phantoms hockey series. I love this series and couldn't wait to read the third brother's story. Once again Mama Stella is back and just as determined to find her son a loving partner. HIT 'em HARD is a sweet, spicy, emotional, friends to lovers entertaining read.
Three years ago, Oscar winner and popular movie star, Bailey Walker's life was devastated. tragic car accident left her scarred, in constant pain, suffering from anxiety, and living a reclusive life. Her only escape is the online video game world. Jensen Bang is a professional hockey player for the L.A. Phantoms. He lives for hockey, but lately his team has lost its connection, has the title of being the worst team in the league, causing him to question if this is where he wants to be. At least he has his video games, a world he can escape to and relax.
Their love of video gaming brought Jensen and Bailey together, they established a close friendship and connection, but neither were looking for anything more. What would happen if they were given the chance to meet in the real world? A crowded restaurant, an eye lock, a meddling mother, a text, and a pass by security, all lead to a chaperoned dinner where an online friendship becomes more. I adored Jensen and Bailey together. He was so supportive, caring, and protective of her, he listened to her and was patient with all her needs. Bailey was so sweet; life had dealt her a terrible blow and she struggled until Jensen brought her back to life. He didn't see a scarred, crippled woman, instead he saw once who was beautiful and intelligent. Jensen and Bailey's romance was slowburn, yet sweet and spicy, with minimal angst and drama. It was one built on friendship, trust, and finally on love. The heat between them was scorching hot and literally bed breaking.
Kat Mizera has delivered an emotional, heartfelt, and fun story which brought on all the feels. She had me hooked from the very first page, so much so I couldn't put it down. Jensen Bang is a man who had me swooning and sighing, while Bailey Walker simply deserved a huge hug.
Next up is Gina Azzi's Lock 'em Down, Leif Bang's story, I just hope he's ready for Mama Stella's visit.
Read and Reviewed for Reading Is Our Satisfaction.
Hit 'em Hard, by Kat Mizera, is the third book in The Bang Brothers Hockey series. Each book in this series focuses on one of the Bang siblings and their matchmaker mom, Stella. This is the story of Jensen Bang.
Jensen is a professional hockey player for the LA Phantoms. Playing for one of the worst teams in the league is challenging. When he's not on the ice, Jensen enjoys gaming with his online friends to take his mind off of hockey. He is especially close to one online friend...only known to him as @Empress. He knows nothing about her, not even her real name, but yet he feels something for her that he can't explain. When he finally has the chance to meet her, their chemistry is undeniable.
Bailey is an award winning actress who has been out of the spotlight ever since an accident left her disabled. She has put up walls to protect herself from being hurt, and she refuses to let anyone in. She enjoys gaming, especially since her true identity isn't known to her online friends, and she can just be herself. When a chance encounter has her meeting one of her online friends, will she finally let her guard down?
This story had me hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the characters... and felt like they were extremely well-written. Jensen is an absolute sweetheart... and he is so caring and protective of Bailey. His determination to help Bailey through the good and bad is what makes him so special. Bailey has been through so much, and it's understandable that she feels like she has to guard her heart from any more pain. The trauma she endured is heartbreaking, and beyond the physical aspect, the emotional toll it has taken on her is front and center.
Overall, I felt this was a unique storyline with realistic characters that you will fall in love with. As with the previous books, Mama Bang manages to meddle once again and achieve her goal in the end. I am looking forward to seeing what she's up to in the next book.
I received an ARC from the author. My views are my own and are in no way influenced by anyone else.
𝐇𝐢𝐭 '𝐞𝐦 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 by Kat Mizera is the 3rd book in the multi-author 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 Hockey series chronicling the love stories of all six of the Bang siblings as their mom, Stella, tries to use her matchmaking skills to meddle in their love lives after a devastating loss of her best friend. Jensen is next up on her list, and is struggling on a failing hockey team. The one bright spot in his life is @Empress, a woman he befriended through the online gaming community, but she is clearly cautious. Bailey is an Oscar-winning actress who has seen the dark side of relationships, and barely survived. Her final show-down with her ex left her scarred and saddled with a limp. Her insecurities keep her hidden from public view, only connecting with fellow gamers online, especially @PhantomKnight. When a chance encounter brings Jensen and Bailey face to face, can he convince her to give him a chance to prove that he is worth the risk?
I was so impressed by the unique premise in this story, and how relatable the characters were. As someone with a disability, Bailey’s struggle through surgeries and insecurities really resonated with me, and I 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙 watching Jensen’s determination to be there for her.😍 The romance is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The emotions associated with her trauma were very authentic. There were some twists and turns, and frustrating drama. The great supporting cast brought banter, support, and that all-important found family vibe. The one sticking point for me is that the villain never sees significant consequences, or even a counter narrative. Other than that, I was sucked into the world, loving their journey. I was happy to see Mama Bang work her magic again!😆 I look forward to more of the Bang Brothers, and more from this author, too!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️🌶
As an avid reader of sports romance novels, I was immediately intrigued by the premise of Hit 'Em Hard by Kat Mizera. The blurb promised a steamy, emotional story set against the backdrop of the thrilling world of professional hockey, and I'm happy to say that the book delivered on all fronts.
From the moment I was introduced to Jensen Bang and Bailey "Empress" Prescott, I found myself completely invested in their journey. Jensen's struggle to balance his hockey dreams and personal life resonated with me, and his geeky interests and protective nature made him an incredibly swoon-worthy hero. Bailey's transformation from a reclusive former Hollywood star to a confident, resilient woman was both inspiring and heartwarming.
The chemistry between Jensen and Bailey practically leapt off the page, and Mizera did an excellent job of building the anticipation and tension between the two characters. Their "meet-cute" moment was both humorous and romantic, and the development of their relationship felt natural and organic.
One of the things I appreciated most about Hit 'Em Hard was the way the author handled the challenges Jensen and Bailey faced. The difficulties of navigating a budding relationship while dealing with the demands of their careers and personal struggles felt authentic and relatable, and Mizera explored these themes with depth and nuance.
While the romance was undoubtedly steamy, what truly won me over were the heartwarming moments between Jensen and Bailey. The scenes where they supported each other through difficult times were particularly moving and showcased the strength of their connection.
Overall, Hit 'Em Hard by Kat Mizera is a captivating sports romance that stole my heart. The engaging characters, sizzling chemistry, and emotional depth make this book a must-read for fans of the genre. I couldn't put it down and found myself rooting for Jensen and Bailey's happily ever after until the very last page.
Jensen is a professional hockey player for the LA Phantoms. With the team struggling to win games, Jensen spends his spare time online gaming with a group of friends, especially a woman who goes by @Empress. Three years ago, Bailey was an Oscar award winning actress but a fatal car accident caused by her ex fiance has left Bailey scarred and with a noticeable limp. Bailey leads a recluse life avoiding the public while writing screen plays with online gaming as her main social interaction, especially with @PhantomKnight. Jensen and Bailey have been online friends for over a year but a chance meeting at a Mexican restaurant had them locking eyes and unable to look away. Bailey freaks out and thinks Jensen is a stalker when he reaches out to her but finally agrees to a chaperoned date with Jensen at the same Mexican restaurant. The chemistry sparks between Jensen and Bailey from the moment they lock eyes. Can Jensen convince Bailey that she is stronger than she thinks she is? Can Bailey overcome her fears and insecurities about being public to become a bigger part of Jensen's life? How will Bailey and Jensen react when Bailey is confronted by her ex and the press at a charity event? Will an earthquake and Bailey's injury bring her and Jensen together or push them further apart? Will Jensen and Bailey confess their feelings for each other and decide they want a future together? I loved Hit 'em Hard by Kat Mizera. Jensen and Bailey are a great couple with some serious hot chemistry. Hit 'em Hard is a fantastic book with a meddling mother, great friends, a loving family, an ex, drama, an earthquake, and some laughs. I would highly recommend getting Hit 'em Hard by Kat Mizera! Hit 'em Hard is the 3rd book in the Bang Brothers hockey series and the begging of the LA Phantoms series by Kat Mizera. I received an ARC of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
4.25 stars. Bailey, the female movie star lead, was in a car accident left her with severe physical damage to her lower body three years ago. Living with chronic pain, she’s withdrawn from the world with her video games, and few remaining friends her only social outlets. Jensen, the male professional hockey player lead, enjoys video games as a stress release and social outlet, and is part of an online gaming group with Bailey. They’ve also been chatting privately a little.
When Jensen thinks he recognises Bailey in real life, based on her self description and plans, he’s cautiously reaches out. Bailey is initially wary but they start to build a relationship.
But Bailey doesn’t ever want to return to the media eye, and part of Jensen’s role involves engaging with the media. Can they reach a compromise?
This story is dual POV, well written, and an emotional, contemporary sports romance, involving a female lead with an ongoing physical disability and mental health concerns. I appreciated that Bailey’s issues weren’t minimised and that they didn’t disappear - the experience that caused them was traumatic and her responses were appropriate. I enjoyed Jensen’s gentle encouragement for her to rejoin the world, as well as his genuine respect for her boundaries and limits. I enjoyed Bailey’s gradual mental health improvement and the way she started engage with more than her immediate support people. I enjoyed the relationship development. I enjoyed the intimate scenes, and the expectation that disability could be worked around to facilitate intimacy. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters, especially Bailey’s best friends who had supported her since the accident. I appreciated the respect given to Bailey by those around her.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I’m going to need Mama Bang to raise all the men in the world because all of her sons have been what book boyfriends are meant to be like. “Hit ‘em Hard” is a romantic, swoony and emotional hockey romance that was the perfect addition to this joint series.
Three years prior, Bailey was a successful movie star and living her best life. But when her then fiance assaults her and causes an accident, her life is changed forever. Now she’s living as far out of the spotlight as she can with the chronic pain caused by the accident. Jensen Bang plays for the LA Phantoms and the team is not clicking and the season is not going well. Both are into game and have known each other through that but never have met until a chance meeting at a mutual friends party. The connection is instant but Bailey is still healing from her trauma and Jensen is determined to prove that she deserves to be happy.
I’m still swooning over Jensen Bang so much even after finishing this story. Jensen is caring, patient and I loved how protective he is with Bailey. He’s incredibly patient and doesn’t ever push her into more than she’s ready for. He can tell that her pain is deep and is always there for her, to listen and support her. Bailey is so kind but had been hurt badly in the past by her ex and the accident that left her with a limp, scars, and chronic pain. Under that was a girl who had started to give up but her and Jensen finding each other was what she needed. I love how they were first gamer buddies and how they met. The connection was instant and just came off the pages. I loved their relationship and how it was built on trust. Mama Bang was so wonderful and I love her coming into each of her sons life's so help them find what they’re missing. I can’t wait for the next book.
It is a stand alone book but let me just say it will bring you into a whole new world of hockey romance that is amazing.
This book is a double series. Meaning it is part of a group of authors who have each released books (3rd in that series) about the same family while linking it with the author’s own series about an NHL Hockey Team(3rd in that series too but is set right before the series truly starts). It is a page turner and with the way this author writes, it touches on a lot of sensitive subjects. Some that can actually make you cry, so make sure you are prepared for it.
Bailey was an Oscar nominated actress who had the perfect life, that was until it all was shattered when her boyfriend assaulted her on the way home when she tried to break up with him. Not just anywhere but in the car on the way home one night causing it to crash, kill her bodyguard/driver, causing her major injuries and he gets away with it all. Now she is dealing with a lot including physical and mental scars that won’t let her step outside her comfort zone at all, even years later. The only way she finds herself is by playing a video game under the name of Empress and writing. Through lots of encouragement she steps out, but she isn’t prepared for what happens in more ways that one.
Jensen Bang made it to the NHL but it isn’t the greatest life. He misses his family and to be honest the management and coaching of the LA Phantoms sucks. He has one outlet and that is playing video games with his family and one other person…Empress. He can feel the connection and he swear one night at a local Mexican restaurant it is her there, so he asks her about it. She runs and hides again but he is patient, so patient and caring, proving that maybe she needs to take a chance.
Happy book birthday to the third book in the Bang Brothers series, Hit ‘Em Hard by Kat Mizera. Part of an interconnected standalone series (by multiple authors), Hit ‘Em Hard also fits into Mizera’s L.A. Phantoms series.
Bailey, an actress involved in an accident that sees her retreating from the world, connects with Jensen - an NHL player - via an online gaming platform. The two become friends, and a chance encounter at a restaurant leads to an in-person meeting where sparks fly.
Like other books in the series, Hit ‘Em Hard follows one of the Bang brothers, Jensen, and his mother’s quest for all her children to find love and happiness. It’s a fun premise and the dynamics between the two main characters in this one is great. Bailey is trying to reclaim her life after a violent accident and Jensen is trying to tread water as his team struggle through their season. Their friendship and then their romance is what helps them through, but also their lives in the spotlight make it harder for them at the same time. I always appreciate a romantic/golden retriever hero in a book, and Jensen fits that bill. I also appreciated how Bailey is still working through grief and trauma from her accident and from living with chronic pain and that it doesn’t disappear overnight for the sake of the plot. Overall, it’s just a good time, and an easy read (and I am curious about other characters from the L.A. Phantoms world, too!).
CW: Abusive/gaslighting ex partner, partner violence, car accident, mentions of injuries and subsequent surgeries, ableist language (protagonist thinking/talking about herself/her injuries), earthquake and subsequent injuries, on-ice fighting
I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kat Mizera’s “Hit ‘em Hard” is the third book in the Bang Brothers Hockey series, but it’s also part of her LA Phantoms hockey romance series. I didn’t know what to expect since this was my first experience with any of Mizera’s books, I do have to say that I rather enjoyed Jensen and Bailey’s story!
The two main characters in this book are Jensen Bang and Bailey Walker. Jensen is a professional hockey player for the LA Phantoms, and Bailey made her living as a successful and talented actress, at least, until the effects of a horrible car accident made her decide to step out of the spotlight.
I loved that Jensen and Bailey spent a whole year bonding before meeting in person or discovering each other’s true identities. They’re both huge video game nerds, which is what originally brought them together. I also loved that on their first in person date, they each had their own chaperones despite being in their late twenties - it was both sweet and hilarious!
Jensen. This man is the absolute swooniest. He tried so hard to make Bailey comfortable, willing to do whatever it took to earn her trust, her respect, and especially her heart. He was such a sweetie, always respecting Bailey’s boundaries even if he didn’t always agree with her choices.
Bailey. She’s literally been through hell and back, and I can’t even imagine being in the amount of pain she was constantly in after her car accident. Bailey was definitely stubborn, but she was also smart and funny. She also dealt with a lot of anxiety/depression regarding her symptoms, which was something I could relate to. All in all, I thought this was a lovely and emotional read!
Jensen, the middle of 6 children and player on the LA Phantoms hockey team, is a gamer. He's disappointed with his team and their management issues and relies on his online gaming friends, most of whom he's never met, to keep his spirits up. He's most connected with @EmpressB, who he feels like he really knows, even though they've never met. Bailey was an A-list actress, having won an Oscar for one of her performances, before her ex-fiance caused a car accident that crippled her. Since then, she's become a recluse, avoiding going out of her house for fear the paparazzi will criticize and belittle her. She turned to online gaming as a way to make connections and grown close to @PhantomKnight, in particular. After a chance encounter, the two become more than friends IRL and a relationship develops.
This was a sweet, slow-burn story with plenty of spice and while there is some angst and drama, it doesn't overpower the romance and reader connection to the story. This is story set in a hockey world, but the main focus is not so much on the game, but on the trust that is built between Jensen and Bailey, and the way that Jensen is able to slowly help Bailey out of her stagnant shell. Stella, the meddling mother matchmaker is at it again, subtly encouraging Jensen to pursue Bailey and helping to provide a sense of found family in this book, offering Bailey a peek at what she missed in her childhood. Hit 'em Hard is the standalone book 3 in the Bang Brothers interconnected, collaborative series and the prequel for the LA Phantoms series.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is standalone book within Kat Mizera's LA Phantom book series. It's sort of a prequel because the events that happen in this book occur before the first book in the Phantom series. But it is a great intro into characters that appear in that series.
In this book we are introduced to Jensen Bang and his mom Stella. She has just lost her best friend and so she decides to be a matchmaking mom. In this story it is Jensen's turn and so comes to Los Angeles and stays with him awhile while checking out his friends and life.
Jensen is a hockey player for the worst team in the league. But he is sort of stuck there because he makes too much to be traded and the management is pretty awful at the moment. The best part of the day is when he plays this digital online game with his gang of friends and one in particular.
Bailey has had a very bad three years. She is just trying to survive and do some writing. She is a person who is hiding from the world. The high point of her day is when she plays video games online with her friends.
Fate is a very weird thing and well it brings B and J together, especially with a little help from Stella. This was a wonderful story. I really enjoyed it. I don't want to say too much and give away any spoilers.
I loved the message in this story about facing your past and to be brave and let down your walls and let people in. It's about learning to trust, love, family and true friendship.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Jensen Bang is a professional hockey player. He lives in Los Angeles and is playing for the Phantoms. He struggles with being away from his family and his only lifeline seems to be chatting with a fellow gamer, @Empress. He knows absolutely nothing about her. She has her secrets and for a good reason. A chance encounter pushed them together in the same room and the attraction between them was real and palpable. But she disappeared all too soon.
Bailey is an Oscar winning actress. She was out of the spotlight for a few years following a horrible accident that left her disabled. Bailey and her boyfriend was on their way home from an awards ceremony when she broke up with him and he got aggressive. He caused an accident that unalived the driver and left Bailey disabled. He got away without scratches and charges. Bailey is still in physical pain, has anxiety and PTSD. She shut herself off from everyone other than a few friends and her gamer friends.
Mama Bang came to the rescue yet again. Jensen needs to convince Bailey that he is what she needs and that they will be good for each other. That he’ll be there for her no matter what. He was very patient and caring with her. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a disabled MC, hockey romance then you’re going to love it.
Mama Bang is at it again, and in book number 3, Jensen is her target. Having successfully played cupid to two of her sons, she decides that Jensen needs to find love and so she goes to stay with him in California. Jensen is another of her sons who play in the NHL, but being in one of the worst teams in the league means that outside of hockey, his only pastime is gaming with his online group. He is especially close to Empress, and when Jensen meets her in person he is blown away by how beautiful she is. Bailey Walker is an Oscar winning actress who disappeared three years ago after an accident. She was left with a disability and extreme pain after her then boyfriend assaulted her and because of that she has become a recluse, hiding away from everyone. But when you fall in love with someone in the public eye, maybe you have to change your ideas.
Bailey and Jensen's story was wonderfully written, it warmed my heart. With every page, Jensen became more and more of a hero and a good guy and Bailey's insecurities are slowly being broken down. Ms. Mizera certainly knows how to write a hockey romance and this story is no exception. I love the characters and have even met some of them in other Phantom's books. Reading this series has introduced me to authors that I have not read before but I will definitely be reading in the future. Great series.
If you haven’t started the multi author Bang Brothers series yet, OMG you need to jump on it. Hit ‘em Hard is book 3 and mom is once again weaving her matchmaking skills to get her sons married. In this case it’s Jensen. He is sadly playing on a losing pro hockey team and to help his stress he plays an online team video game with a few other players. He has gotten to know one of them, the Empress, on a more personal level via online chats. The Empress in real life is Bailey, a movie starlet who was involved in a horrible car crash and now lives like a hermit as she struggles with people seeing her with a limp and scars. Both Bailey and Jensen have secrets from one another: hers is not only who she really is but her current physical and mental state, his is the fact he’s a wealthy hockey star. But one thing is for sure, they find comfort with each other during their chats.
But what happens when a chance sighting turns into them finally meeting in person? Will they still feel the attraction? If so, is there any way they test the waters with her so reclusive and him in the spotlight? Absolutely outstanding read full of laughs, smiles, heartaches, romance and so much more. I can’t recommend grabbing it up enough. You won’t regret any of the books in the series to date and this reader can’t wait for book 4 to hit the shelves.
Right from the start Ms. Mizera will play with your emotions and your heart. Hit 'em Hard is the third installment in the Bang Brothers Hockey series and it is heartfelt, inspirational and will have you believing your one true love is out there you just have to be open to love. She gives us a story, unlike other sports romances, not all goals and hat tricks but heartache and emotions. Jensen Bang plays in the NHL but for a team that is spiraling downward very fast. His only stress relief is playing an online game where he connects with @Empress, who is an Oscar-winning actress Bailey, but living a recluse life due to a car accident three years ago. Their meeting was set in the stars. Their characters were both struggling with life and they seemed to have a connection where they leaned on one another for support. The friendship that developed over the year online, made it so much easier to open up to one another. I loved how Jensen showed or tried to show Bailey that she was still beautiful and sexy. He did not see the monster that she saw in herself. Their road to happiness and love was one of strength, positivity and encouragement. Once again we have the love of Mama Bang involved with the road to HEA. She has a way of getting you to cheer her on as she meddles with her children's love lives.
Another fantastic story and addition to the Bang Series. I love that we are getting a little bit of a bunch of other hockey series to draw us in.
Jensen and Bailey found each other originally behind the screens in an online game that they both played and enjoyed. Slowly building a friendship while chatting with each other. Keeping part of themselves unknown. Not to be sneaky but to keep everything on an even keel. When Jensen beleives he see Bailey in person, and mentions it to her, they begin the shift to meeting in person. Which can always be scary going from online to face to face. Luckily for them, the people were genuine.
We get to follow along as they navigate their new style relationship while working through their own issues. Bailey has all but become a hermit since her accident a few years ago. Not wanting to world to judge her as she knows all to well the work of LA and acting. Jensen is struggling at work as his team struggles with finding their groove though the upheaval of the team since the owner has passed. But they are both there for one another, trying to help and support, while providing gentle nudges for more.

Book 3 of the Bang Brothers series, written by Kat Mizera and part of her LA Phantoms series.
Includes: 🏒 Gentle giant hockey player ⭐ Traumatized former actress 🏒 Online friends to real world lovers ⭐ Two videogame loving nerds 🏒 Patience, protection and perseverance ⭐ Learning to trust again
Mama Bang is now 3 for 3 (shocker I know!!)! But this time, her son (Jensen) already thinks he's interested in one of his online friends (Bailey) who he's been teammates in their online video game with for the past year. After a chance meeting IRL making them realize that they're much closer in many ways than they thought, Mama Bang happily chaperones their first official date so that Bailey isn't too uncomfortable. Of course, the fact that he's a NHL star and she's an actress who hasn't been seen in public for the last three years since an 'accident' left her with a disability she'd rather hide.
This book had me up late into the night and almost in tears. Jensen's patience and tenderness (and then some decidedly not tenderness later in the book😉😉) had me melting. Bailey was totally in charge, setting her own pace as she learned to trust him more and more with every interaction. I enjoyed everything about it!!
Damn these authors are crushing it! Can't believe we're now halfway through the Bang siblings!!!
After finishing this all I kept thinking was how is it that I've started reading Kat Mizera for the first time in 2024!?! What was I thinking waiting so long to start?!
This story consists of a sweet and swoony hero with a dirty mouth when times arise. Jensen is my favorite so far in the series. He truly sounds like an incredible man and just like Bailey I couldn't help but fall for him. His support and understanding of her fears and limitations was incredible. He really wanted nothing but the best for her and wouldn't give up even when her fears took over her for a little while.
Bailey has suffered an accident that left her with both physical as well as emotional scars. She doesn't trust easily but meeting Jensen brings the life in her soul out again and soon she wants to do more than just hide behind closed doors. Having his support means the world to her and even when her fears win for a short time, she's determined to apologize and begs for another chance. Good thing Jensen loves her too much to let that happen but he'll gladly take her up on the offer to sail on into the HEA in each other's arms.

Another Bang Brother bites the dust! Follow the escapades of Mama Bang as she attempts to play matchmaker yet again. Filled with laughter, understanding, tears of fear, frustration, and joy, Bailey and Jensen will show you how their love is strong enough to withstand Mother Nature, the paparazzi, and self-doubt. Take one professional hockey player, mix him up with a matchmaker mama, and add in a beautiful ex-movie star to get a fantastic read that will give you warm and fuzzy feelings.
This time around, Jensen is the son who will reap the benefits. He's tall, muscled, and talented on the ice. In his spare time, Jenson likes to play computer games under the name of Phantom Knight, where he's been building a friendship with another player named Empress. They've gotten close to each other and can chat away from the game. Empress lets slip where she has to go in real-time, and Jenson happens to spot her, putting the two identities together to find Bailey. Hiding out from the real world, Bailey is recovering from a brutal car accident and secreting herself away from Hollywood. When the two bravely chance meeting face to face, the intensity of their attraction is off the charts. When faced with reality, will fame help or hinder what could be the best love either has ever found?
What is there to say about Jensen and Bailey? Lets start with Bailey from the very beginning chapter I started to love this character. She was willing to stand up and state that her relationship wasn't working for her and realized he was using her for who she was, It killed me that her ex took so much from her and continued on like nothing had happened. Bailey became a shell of the person she once was and started to fight so many demons to be the person she is. Jensen comes into her life 3 years after that fatal night and is so much different then what she expected. That is one of my favorite things when the leading male character is different then even the female lead expects. I love the connections that Jensen's family has in the story. His mom is the sweetest and cutest thing ever, Watching Jensen and how he is so patient with Bailey allowing her to work through her demons but letting her know he is there to support her. It makes me swoon every time that what she thinks is such a huge deal and turn off is nothing to him but a remembrance that she was hurt physically and emotionally by someone that should have protected and loved her. Now I have to read the first two books in the series and wait for the rest because I love the Bang family.
This was really good. It was a great story that was easy to read and overall had a feel-good vibe about it. Our main characters, Jensen and Bailey, were really likeable and it was easy to get invested in their story. They had been playing in an online game together for the past year and had built a solid friendship despite having never shared who they really were, when a chance encounter bore too many coincidences for Jensen to not suspect it was Bailey. This led to a real-life dinner date, very cutely chaperoned by Jensen's mother and Bailey's friends. An accident 3 years prior had resulted in some pretty major changes in Bailey's life, circumstances she was struggling with. Despite the relationship with Jensen building quickly in private, she was reluctant to take it outside the four walls of her house. This led to plenty of drama for the storyline but also a surprising amount of growth for the character. This is a sports romance, hockey, and for once wasn't based on a team that was headed for success in the Stanley Cup. The struggles the team was experiencing being at the bottom of the table added another interesting plot line to the story. Overall, this was a very enjoyable story from an author I haven't read before but wouldn't hesitate to read again.
Bailey Walker was an award winning actress who suffered a horrible accident at the hands of her now ex fiance and left her disabled. Since the accident 3 years prior she has been out of the limelight, suffers from pain all the time and pretty much never goes out in public. She loves gaming and that is her outlet.
Jensen Bang is a defenseman for the L.A. Phantoms. He's on the worst team in the NHL and his only pastime is online gaming with his group. He's really close to Empress and also his brother who's in the group. When Mama Bang comes to town they go out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant where he sees a beautiful woman and having talked to Empress and mentioning she was going to a birthday party at the same place he wonders if it's her and it was.
They are both instantly attracted to each other and having been talking over the past year while gaming they've become friends and now that they've met it's just the beginning of "them".
Such a sweet emotional story of putting herself out there again and learning to trust others and Jensen couldn't have been a better guy for her.
