Retrieving the trident was supposed to be the hard part. Now a new storm is brewing on the horizon.
That curse the merfolk are under? Still swimming strong.
Leander thought the trident could break it, but it’s breaking him instead. Sure, it gives him god-like powers, but they come at a cost too steep to pay—his life.
If that isn’t enough, now we must make our way to the Indian Ocean or face the wrath of Barren’s queen. That’s how the four of us end up on an international flight to… where exactly is Barren’s island, again?
Oh—five of us—sorry. Can’t forget Laverne.
But we soon find this luxurious island conceals far more than glittering beaches. And just when things get cozy, a familiar sea wizard emerges from the shadows to pluck me away from my newfound paradise.
When he draws me into his darkness, he whispers a secret that threatens to unravel the bonds I’ve forged with my mates.
I can never let them know.
But secrets, like waves, have a way of surfacing. If my mates do discover the truth I’ve witnessed here in the shadows… I fear these cruel tides will tear us apart.
CRUEL TIDES is the second in series of a slow-build medium-burn paranormal romance where the main character slowly collects her soulmates. Expect humor, steam, and a cliffhanger ending!
This book was previously published as the serial Cursed Waters (Season Two) Episodes 58-135 in the Kindle Vella store. Season Three is currently ongoing and can be read on Kindle Vella.
I truly love these books and need more of them always. Even though it was almost 600 pages, I still wanted more! I’m not sure I’ve read too many books where I am anxious to get back to reading it asap.
The story always keeps you guessing and it’s so intriguing. You never know what’s coming. But the relationships and humor keep me wanting to read more. Although, I usually want to bop Leander on the head, I love Kai and Barren…and Laverne makes me wanna smack a sea lion. Haha.
The new addition of Abyssal is also so interesting and I can wait to learn more and see where this story goes!
The best part of this story was how the relationships between all the guys and Claira really evolved and developed and especially how the guys all came to care for each other. Throw in some undersea and land hijinks, and that silly sea lion, Laverne, and this tale was perfect, with everything from humor to adventure to gut-wrenching anguish. I even liked the villain and his POV. And even though Barren drives nuts because he’s just so not verbose, he’s the smartest of the bunch. I think Kai is my absolute favorite! Leander just… I have no words. Abyssal…yes. I look forward to more of him. So much more.
The books definitely aren't bad. I think she spends a little too much time describing everything and I'm not one to usually say that. I appreciate the characters and will say I have saved the 🌶️🌶️🌶️ scene as one of my favorites to go back to. I definitely don't regret reading it, and recommend it. It's not something I'll become obsessed with, but it's something I can get lost in reading. This is a new genre for me. I've never read mermaid shifters so I thoroughly enjoy her take on them and how they have sex. I enjoy the different personalities of each partner. There's a lot here to enjoy, there's just a bit I wish was done differently so I won't rate it 5 star.
I love this book even more than book 1. The twists and turns. Oh my gosh. I need the 3rd book ASAP. This book was nearly 600 pages, and I wish I had MORE. I'm 1000% going to be buying the hardcovers. I can't believe I started the first one as a joke because it's such a great story, and the characters are *chef's kiss* and I seriously don't know how I'm going to cope with waiting for book 3 that's insane. I'm obsessed. So many questions were answered, but now I have a million more. I can't wait to see where this story goes.
I spent alot more time then I feel I should have on this and still ended up dnfing it. I liked the first one but I just could not get into this one. I feel there was alot of "filler" when I just wanted plot. The whole scene with Claira running into boys she went to school with was completely unnecessary and I felt this way with alot of scenes. I'm disappointed because I wanted a mermaid story but this wasn't it for me.
I love everything about this series - the imagination of the author is just amazing. The way the characters are developed, the world that is described, the twists and turns that keep us guessing!
The only downside is I have to wait until April 2025 for the third book! Devastating!
I binge read the first book and the second, they were too good to put down! Can’t wait until the next comes out! I loved that I couldn’t predict the big secret and now I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
I've been reading this series on Vella and doubts down the days reach week for the next chapter. Now I'm anxiously waiting for book 3. The live triangle is intense I can't get enough.
This series gets better the more it progresses! I still can't wait to find out what happens next. This series really does suck the reader in and doesn't want to let go
