Hellions Angels #2-3

Head Coach & Virgin Territory

Rate this book
From the author of Mister Hockey—the Hellions are back, this time with a scorching-hot enemies-to-lovers romance between a championship winning NHL coach and a no-nonsense sports reporter... Neve Angel’s life is all work and no play, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. One of Denver’s top sports reporters, she’s fought hard to make it in a male-dominated world, and she won’t back down from a fight with anyone—not even the Hellions’ gruff head coach, Tor Gunnar. Her hostile relationship with the icy Scandinavian is the stuff of local legend. Tor Gunnar hates dealing with the media; at best, they are a nuisance and at worst, a distraction. And no one distracts him more than the scrappy, sexy reporter who gets him hot under the collar. When he wins a not-so-friendly bet with Neve, he decides it’s high time they either kiss or kill each other, and invites her as a date to an out-of-town wedding. But what happens when enemies become lovers? Will their sizzling attraction become too hot to handle, or is it time to start playing for keeps?

I think I like these two books in one concept. Gets straight to the point, easy reads that you don’t want to put it down, and they both relate to one another so you aren’t introduced to new characters.

DNF Head Coach. Unwilling to read the other one.

This book was so bad that it triggered an “I have free will and don’t have to finish this” revelation. It was so painfully millennial, which obviously has its audience, but I am not in it. “Adorkably” had me gagged. Girl’s tongue was stuck out in the very first chapter. Something was describe as quirky UNIRONICALLY. Major “I’m not like other girls vibes” even after the girlboss makeover montage. They also NEVER STOP FUCKING. Just watch porn. It probably has more plot.

Head coach 3/5. Slightly less cringey than Mister Hockey but still very cringe. I felt it was slightly more modern but still stuck in 2014. I also felt like this was insta love which I’m not a big fan of despite the love/hate tension in the beginning. If it was longer I felt there could have been more plot and development.

After finishing this I had no interest in reading Virgin Territory so unfortunately it has been added into the DNF folder.

A steamy, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance with only one bed that has a sports reporter falling for the head coach while they attend the wedding of his ex wife. SUPER spicy and a bit more insta love than I typically like but overall this was an entertaining, quick read and I'm excited to get my hands on the next book in the series. Okay on audio, I didn't love the female narrator but that was a me issue.

Steam level: R rated, open door scenes

This is 2 books combined in one which is a hockey romance series following two couples. Head Coach is about an NHL coach and a sports reporter who hate each other while Virgin Territory is about a hot-headed hockey player who needs help from a yoga instructor. I loved how short these books are because I read them in one sitting. They are an easy reads with mostly romance rather than plot. In the mood, I didn’t mind that and enjoyed a casual read though I know many will hate that there isn’t a strong plot with variety of conflicts. The book takes place in the same world and is recommended to read in order to not be spoiled. Each book is told from dual povs of the couple.

I won’t go much into each character but I liked Neve’s character from Head Coach. She is fun, shy, and funny so she was a relatable character. Tor was also a great MMC but I liked Neve a lot more. From Virgin Territory, we have Patch the MMC and I loved how overprotective he is of Margot. He made a lot of improvements in the book. I didn’t like Margot’s character as much and often found her confusing. Head Coach has an enemies to lovers trope while Virgin Territory has the friends-to-lovers, he’s a virgin trope.

The ending for each book was good but not the best. I was mostly not here for the plot but the romance part of the books. This series is more of a mood read which is something I picked at the moment to binge read because usually I love a good plotted story with a mix of romance. The books are still good especially if you want something short and sweet.

Ehh 2.75 rounded up to 3

Story time: I found this book at my Sam’s club today and was like “ooo hockey romance!” I sadly found out that it was the 2 and 3 book in the series. I was like oh well I’ll read it and see what happens. So I read the third book and was underwhelmed. It’s teach me troupe, a super awesome troupe btw, but it was presented weirdly. The official romance felt rushed but it was still good. VERY SPICY but not in the same way other spicy books are if that makes any sense. It was really short and I wanted more of everything.
With the 3rd book done I was taking a stab in the dark and reading the 2nd book. Backwards, I know. I read like 30-40 pages and didn’t like it. I knew that they got together from book 3 so the story just wasn’t it for me. Also I probably need to read the 1st one but alas I’m poor and can’t buy books everywhere I go (no matter how much I want too). My hot take is READ THEM IN ORDER!! YOU WILL ENJOY THEM WAYY MORE!!
All in all, I liked the 3rd book but I want more. 2nd one not for me.
Happy reading!! 💕✨

Head Coach

I wasn't a huge fan of the first book in this series, it felt too rushed, so I had low expectations going into Head Coach. I was pleasantly surprised. The book is only about 170 pages long but Lia Riley still did a good job of building the relationship and tension between Tor and Neve. If you like enemies to lovers, single dad, hockey romance or the one bed trope, you will probably enjoy this one.

3.5 stars

Virgin Territory

This is the third book in the Hellions Hockey series. Each of the books is under 200 pages, so there is a limited amount of time to build the relationships between the main characters. Insta-love is not my favorite trope so that definitely plays a role in my rating/review. Some of the tropes that I did enjoy were hockey romance, virgin MMC, grumpy goalie and sunshine yoga teacher. There is also a some great sub plots, like "stalking-lite" and a court case involving a creeptastic injury lawyer, that really added to the story. Overall, it was a quick, fun and spicy read.

3.75 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘆

✔ Forced Proximity
✔ One Bed
✔ Enemies to Lovers
✔ A little bit of burlesque
✔ MMC Grumpy Single Dad who needs a date to a wedding
✔ Age Gap
Heat: Spicy (☕ 🔥🔥🔥)

A hockey coach who avoids the media and the persistent journalist who isn’t afraid to do what it takes to get the job done until one kiss, a wager, and a wedding will change everything.

𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘆

✔Grumpy x Sunshine
✔Yoga Instructor
✔ MMC Virgin Hockey Player
Heat: Spicy with a dash of Scorchin’ (☕ 🔥🔥🔥1/2)

Patrick “Patch” Donnelly is a ginger with a temper and Margot Kowalski is the one asked to help him harness his temper and improve his overall image.

Secrets, desire, and a chance to overcome a painful past and finally find love.

Trigger warnings: loss, physical scars, and childhood trauma.

Loved having two books to read with a cute flip! Thank you Avon for the galley copies for an honest and fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m a little late to getting my review in goodreads. This was a double book. First in Head Coach, there were some pretty good one liners. “The whole West was getting Californication, from Nevada to Montana, Texas to Colorado.” “…but a glimpse of want didn’t exactly send her heart racing.” (I can’t remember exactly why that line was funny) The two main characters never fought like an old married couple. It was funny reading their exchanges. They had been having the secret exchange online, but didn’t think they already knew the other person in real life. Virgin territory continues on from where head coach leaves off, but the focus shifts to two other characters, Margot and Patch. It is an unexpected love at first sight story between a yoga instructor and a hockey goalie. The story is a whirlwind romance, that talks about virginity, childhood, abuse, and bullying. Two more funny one-liners. “Sliding past him as if she hadn’t swallowed him balls deep” and “ if I have one nemesis in this world, it would be you, Mr.Fuck-a-Penguin.” It was funny and lighthearted.

For head coach, I’ll say that I started to find it mid but as the story goes, I was more interested. I think the story was a little rushed. Like the ennemies became lovers really quick and the “problem” of the story wasn’t really a problem. I liked how the characters were developed after a certain point. Their chemistry is undeniable and it was pretty hot. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t my favorite.

But for Virgin territory on the other hand…. Ooofff it was a 4/5 for me. It was sexy, genuinely cute and not as rushed as Head coach was for me. I loved this couple and how they’ve both grown in this relationship. Of course there was some vilains in it who was more “there” but the way they all got solved in less then ten pages makes me laugh a little. But I get as this story is only 164 pages and I still enjoyed it a lot.

*insert clever hockey reference here*

This was short and to the point. Head Coach of a hockey team vs. reporter who writes about him. They go to a bar and have a mutual friend who forces close proximity. And then BAM, we get the action. There is no build up or real tension between the two.

There's a bet, a weekend away in the mountains and *gasp* only 1 room left. And wouldn't you know it.. only 1 bed too. It doesn't take much for the ice to melt (pun intended). If you want quick to the point and a small side of hockey references, this book has you covered. It was a quick, easy read. What you see is what you get with this book.

But if you're looking to get into something like "Pucking Around", I would say this book is a good appetizer

Read only one side, “Head Coach”. Not even willing to give the other side a try. The main characters “forbidden romance” enemies to lovers plot went too fast. It didn’t claim to be a slow burn but I felt like the characters literally flipped switches in their brain from hating to being in love??? There was no buildup to “maybe these feelings aren’t simply hatred but another feeling” and it really left me feeling unfulfilled with the romantic plot. It’s also borderline just pornography, following the trend of whatever is happening on Booktok right now. It was an easy read if that’s what you’re looking for, but felt really empty to me if that makes sense.

3-3.5 ⭐

These were so much more enjoyable than the first book! The writing was much smoother which allows me to enjoy the story a lot more. I really like the concepts of each book and the characters were great, but the stories felt rushed. I would have liked for each story to be longer with more well thought out plot lines and character development. However this book duo was short, sweet, and spicy! It's perfect for when you want something lightheaded or are in need of a pallet cleanser between books. I think it helped me get out of my slump so that's a bonus too.

Started with Head Coach
3/5, a decent book for what it is- a quick smutty read with predictable romance

Went to Virgin Territory after, and DNF.
(Spoiler) The main love interest is a yoga teacher, but also acted like a therapist and a massage therapist? And forced her brand new client to take his shirt off, even after he seemed uncomfortable with it? And then proceeded to do sexual things with them on day one of meeting them in a professional capacity? Don't get me wrong, I love some spicy scenes, but this one gave me off vibes.

Loved these short books wrapped in one. Very easy to read and kind of go hand in hand with some characters overlapping. I would recommend reading “Head Coach” first and then “Virgin Territory” as I feel like there are less spoilers that way (although you could probably figure it out anyways). Cute stories with some steamy scenes to keep it interesting. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good sports themed romance book!

First off I loved that fact how this book had both book 2 & 3 in it. I really loved both stories and couldn’t put them down. Loved Neve and Tor and Margot and Patch . I thought both couples in both books were cute together. I highly recommend reading the first book first then picking up this double edition book. You could read these two stories without reading the first, but the first book of Breezy and Jed is just as good.

When the cover of Head Coach & Virgin Territory (Hellions Hockey, #2-3) says it's Scorching Hot I know to expect more than a little "romance" but when the explicit sex scenes begin I'm done. No thank you. DNF - I'm sure there will be many readers who will enjoy and rate these with four or five stars.

These were two pretty good books! First book was definitely my favorite, last book is my second favorite, and the second book is last. These two both had good drama, spice, and love. Head Coach moved a little too quick but they were adorable. Virgin Territory was the perfect mix of humor, cute, and drama. Margot and Patch were so perfect together.

2 stories in 1 book, what a great idea!

Head Coach: Story of Neve & Tor. Heated tension erupts into romance.
Virgin Territory: Story of Patrick & Margot. Patrick's anger gets "managed" by Margot and sparks fly.

Can be read independently. I accidentally read out of order and still enjoyed.

Intimacy: MF only
Spice: 6/10

Great for travel. Both quick and fun reads.

I really enjoyed this series. I do wish there was more to the leadup of the couples getting together. I do also believe they deserved longer epilogues. I do appreciate, if there was a third act breakup, that the angst was short and then they’d be back together and happy!

Firstly, a huge thank you to the publisher, Avon, the author, Lia Riley, and Goodreads for the privilege of winning Head Coach & Virgin Territory (Hellions Hickey 2&3) in a giveaway. I had a good time reading these!

Cute, sweet sports (hockey) romance with spicy scenes. Nothing complicated or too dense, and has stories from two couples comprised of characters also found in the first book. The stories move a little quickly and seem to jump to slower paced spicy scenes, and I think a little more story beforehand would make the spicy scenes that much more rewarding. Would recommend for anyone who likes sports romance, spicy scenes, hockey, quick reads, and rom-com type tales.

I wanted so bad to love this but didn’t. A lot of it was cringey for me. The spicy scenes were not it, more awkward than anything. The story line was eh… I was really looking forward to a spicy romance with a good story and that’s not what I got at all.

I really enjoyed these 2 books; they were fast paced, funny, sweet and a perfect escape for me. The books don’t drag on, get straight to the point and have great characters! Also, these 2 were in one book so I got 2 books for the price of one! A great read!

These books were overall a fun and quick read. Might have seemed rushed at some points of the relationships, but that tends to happen when the length of the book is fairly short compared to full-size books and you can’t flesh-out the relationships to their full potential. Just a cute read!

Both Head Coach and Virgin Territory are funny, lighthearted stories! I enjoyed the humor Lia Riley brought to these four characters and how their love shines differently than typical romances. If I had to choose, I’d prefer Head Coach to the first and third books.
