At first I didn’t like what I was reading. I almost put this book aside. I’m so glad I didn’t. The more I read the more I enjoyed until I discovered I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Not even for bed. I had to discover the end.
A monster hunter Henry Bravo in one night turns into one of those he once hunted as his friend gives his life Henry is bitten by werewolves and he then turns into one. Now he knows both sides that of hunter which he once was and now hunted by one he once loved....He begins a search for something to help him regain his humanity....Book 1 in The Beast Brigade by a new to me author Matt Tyler I like it and am looking forward to finding and reading more in this series
The premise of *Wolf Blood* really hooked me from the start, but I have to admit, I struggled to get through it. It took a lot of back and forth—do I keep going or just call it quits? In the end, I pushed through, and I’m glad I did because the concept itself is solid. The idea of a renowned monster hunter, infamous for his deadly skills, becoming cursed with lycanthropy and turning into the hunted is genuinely compelling.
That said, the book’s structure was a major stumbling block for me. It felt like it hadn’t gone through enough editing or proofing to iron out the kinks and add the depth it needed. The narrative was disjointed in places, like chunks of detail were accidentally left out. For example, there’s an early scene where Hank sits by the fire with a kindly stranger who delivers a prophecy or warning. It’s over almost as soon as it starts, and I couldn’t help feeling like it was meant to have more substance, but somewhere along the way, those extra details got lost.
As for the characters, aside from Hank, Radu, and Tatianna, most of them felt pretty flat—even Bella. There was so much potential to flesh her out through flashbacks or deeper exploration of her motives. Supposedly, she loved Hank, but the brief glimpses into their past didn’t really back that up. She came off as cold and one-dimensional, which made it hard to believe Hank’s perception of her as someone who truly loved him.
That said, I’m glad I stuck it out. By the last third of the book, things finally started to flow better. The battle scene, while a little clunky, was vivid, and the descriptions of magic were a real highlight—they could’ve carried even more of the battle, honestly. The story has a strong foundation, but it needs more meat on its bones and a few extra sets of eyes to catch the small things that end up feeling like big issues.
All in all, it’s a good concept with room to grow. I wouldn’t write off the author just yet, but this one missed the mark for me.
To be honnest, i'm not into the werewolf, alpha or the omega verse all that much since i read some very questionable things in the past so i kind of distanced myself from this genre. But frankly, i really liked the plot of this book. The concept was interesting as well as the world building. One of my favorite ganres is historical fantasies, so for this to be set in that 1800s backround was really just amazing. The fact that a supernatural creatures hunter will be turned into a werewolf was also very intriguing because he now somewhat gets a taste of his own medicine. The romance, however, isn't something i really enjoyed. I really didn't like bella as a character who is supposed to be in love with our male character, but then ends up hunting him down? To some people, it wouldn't be a problem or issue with this, but i didn't quite like that. Despite that, i loved it. I enjoyed it enough to plan on reading the rest of the series because i genuinely had fun reading it.
Very entertaining and descriptive style of writing. Loved the cast of characters. Hoping that Tatiana shows up later in the series and finds her happy ending
