June Hampson was born in Gosport, Hampshire, where she still lives. She has had a variety of jobs including waitress, fruit picker, barmaid, shop assistant and market trader selling second-hand books.
This book is due to be published in February 2008. I got it as an Advance Reading Copy to review for Waterstones. It's actually the third in a series by June Hampson and I havent yet read the first two. Easy to read as a stand alone though once past the first couple of chapters where there are quite a lot of characters to get used to. Very similar in style to Martina Cole and Mandasue Heller, set in 60s London and Hampshire and featuring gangster style characters and mentioning the likes of the Krays. A fast paced book, not too violent, quite a bit of swearing, but on the whole a good, easy read. Would like to read her others now.
The book started in such a grim way that I struggled to continue. I don't like to read graphic descriptions of evil deeds. However, the story turned around enough for become more interesting. Although it didn't feel like a definite part of a series, the end was so un-final that I suspect it was. It lost the one star because of that. A book should have a proper ending!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Can't believe what daisy and Gloria went through it was so bad. But i a.m.really disappointed about daisy and Roy through please bring them back together
Omg another great read Just love daisy lane and all the characters in this book Read this over two evening's Right onto the next adventure with daisy and vera
I read June Hampsons 'Broken Bodies' and had to order this one as it continues the life of Daisy Lane. The characters are fabulous and the last book made me anticipate this read just as much. This particular book carries on Daisys life with her gangster boyfriend Roy Kemp. However when she is abducted and has to fight for her survival it changes her outlook on life. This story was as good if not better than the last one and I think June Hampson is somebody to watch out for in the future. If her books get better with each one she writes she will be one of my favourite authors in the not too distant future. Recommended if you like Mandasue Heller and Kevin lewis and the like.
Another great instalment of the Daisy Lane series.
Without spoiling the book, Damaged Goods focusses on Daisy Lanes disappearance and the struggles she has to overcome. I read this in a day and enjoyed discovering the new characters Hampson had created.
I did feel the last 100 pages dragged somewhat and lacked the excitement that first part of the book provided. Reading the first two books, twists and turns appeared throughout the stories and I had hoped for a more explosive ending.
The third in the Daisy Lane series and by far the most violent and hardest of them so far. I think this has been my favourite one. Having read the three in close succession I feel like I know the characters, the girls are like old friends now. Look forward to reading the fourth one.
Haven't read any of the other Daisy Lane books but that didn't matter. I actually enjoyed the book, it's gritty and not badly written; my only criticism would be that the end felt like it was hurried.
