Now that Harper Redd is turning thirty, she feels the push of her magic deep within her soul like never before. The chains holding it deep inside her are rattling ever harder, and she's not sure whether to fight it or embrace it.
Asael is a fallen angel, a demon damned to Hell for daring to fall in love with a human. He's also the secret to why Harper's magic is growing wild within her. And when he sets it free, he sets them on a fast-track toward their destinies. Now, Harper must fulfill her deal with the devil or face the consequences of her actions.
But unbeknownst to the both of them, darker magic and older fates are at play. Can Harper and Asael work together to save each other, or will they be destroyed by powers beyond their control?
A Devil of a Time is a story of fate, reincarnation, magic, and love that's as sinful as it is divine.
I immediately volunteered when Klara requested ARC readers for A Devil of a Time, and with this book being my second romance novel EVER, I was excited to dive into this book. As someone who typically reads horror/thrillers...
I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!
Harper and Asael's passion is firey (no pun intended), and their love is absolutely beautiful.
The writing is magnificent. The plot kept me hooked, and I couldn't put this book down no matter how hard I tried.
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. Will I be looking forward to more of Klara Nielsen's novels? Damn right, I will. Do I wish to have a demon lover of my own? Fuck yes, I do.
A Devil of a Time by Klara Nielson is a short and cozy read, perfect for when you’re in the mood for something light and charming. Harper and Asael’s journey has a fluid, sweet romance build that feels organic, even if the story leans heavily into predictability.
The book’s brevity is both its strength and its weakness. On one hand, it’s a quick escape into a world of magic and fallen angels. On the other, the worldbuilding remains surface level, leaving much of the setting and its magical systems feeling unexplored. The character development is moderate—Harper and Asael have some depth, but lack some of the layers needed to make the story feel fully alive.
Despite its simplicity, A Devil of a Time has a certain charm. The romance is endearing, and the pacing is steady, making it a pleasant read for fans of cozy romantasy tales. While it doesn’t break new ground, it delivers a predictable yet comforting story that scratches the itch for a quick romantic escape. If you’re looking for something short, sweet, and easy to follow, this one might be worth picking up.
