I received this book as an ARC.

This book was a trip. I was truly hooked from the beginning. This story follows the main character, Arya. Having made a mistake in her past, she is haunted with the consequences of actions made as a child. She is given a chance at freedom by the wicked king, which she takes full advantage of.

The world building was great. The found family and comfort given by them allows an opportunity at healing her past wounds. I really loved the characters and their dialogue. There is a WILD ending that I did not see coming.

I don’t think I completely agree with this falling under the “why choose” trope (I saw someone mention this). I personally felt the relationships were feeling a little muddled towards the middle which is the only reason I felt to give it 4 stars. (Was getting a little confused on where characters feelings were at with each other).

Overall, the writing is done really well. The ending was so insane. Please do read all trigger warnings prior to reading this book. I was not put off by anything written, but I can see how some people may find this book difficult to read as there are traumatic situations discussed and described.

I received an ARC of this and just have to saw WOW! First of all Anna how dare you??? Literally reading the last chapter I yelled WHAT?! 😂

Slow Burn | Found Family | Fae | Reverse Harem?

Without giving too much away, this story begins with Arya having been captured by the mortal King Roderick and has held her and her Selkie coat hostage. He comes to her with a task to trade for her coats freedom…kill the Fae King. Arya must learn the political ways of the kingdom and become the Mortal Ambassador in order to complete her task.

She arrives in the Fae kingdom and has an undeniable connection to the rest of the Ambassadors, Winslet, Mies, Leif, Idoh and the Prince, Zephyr. Arya must break free from those that control her, find her coat and herself again…but at what cost?

The ending 🤯, I can’t wait to see what happens next with Arya’s story.

Rating: 4/5
Spice: Like .25 but the potential 🥵

“Rain is supposed to be cleansing, but after it washes away the blood, does the sin still remain?”

This first part drew me in from the very beginning and continued to draw me in throughout the whole book! And it’s one of my favorite quotes in this book.

“It’s like the breeze never comes. The heat takes over and you cannot find any cover. Eventually the sun begins to burn, but you can’t stop it because there’s nothing to stop it. … After a while, the pain stops and this hollow feeling sets in. There is no need for the breeze anymore, you just continue to stand in the sun as it blisters your skin. … I’ve been standing in the sun for many years where the burning is not so noticeable anymore.”

This quote I pulled from the book is so relatable. I understand the feeling of standing where you can’t move and the sun is burning you but you are so numb you can’t feel it anymore. I understand it on such a deep level that I felt so connected to the FMC and I absolutely love being able to relate that way and connect to the characters!

“In all time and space, it is you I have returned to. You I will continue to seek out in this life and the next,”

This is another one of my favorite quotes that absolutely melted my heart and pulled on every since heartstring I have.

I’m not saying who said it because I’m not spoiling anything. This book is just the book you absolutely have to read yourself to find out what happens! It is absolutely amazing! It took me on such a rollercoaster of emotions that I was not prepared for but I loved every second of it! The journey of the FMC was emotionally impactful and her inner strength to forge on in her life and help her people is amazing. I felt like the writer took me on the journey from the very beginning to the end! There were parts where I was reading with a huge smile on my face or laughing at something and there were times I cried my eyes out! The rollercoaster I hopped on pulled me in so many different directions that I never wanted to put the book down! I had to keep reading to the end and the end OMG! I am absolutely feeling! This book was so absolutely amazing that I am so excited for the second one!

Thank you Anna Lynn Hammer for being such an amazing writer and for drawing me into your story so deeply that I may need time to recover! I absolutely loved it! And also, that English professor should be absolutely kicking themselves from failing you because this book was a success! I strongly recommend it!

WOW what did I just get myself into? I received an advanced review copy of this book and I am leaving a review willingly. If you are looking for a book with a journey of pain, fear, new beginnings, new friendships, love and loss, and trauma this is the book you must read. It has it all and much more. It is difficult to find the right words to explain just how incredible this book really is. The writing itself was exquisite. I enjoyed all of it!

The author does an amazing job not only with the world building but with the character development all throughout. It is very well written. I appreciate the complete description of the fae elements within this world that she has created and the tension between all the characters involved. How she describes the different types of fae and their cultures within the fae elements was flawless. The author makes it easy to follow what is happening all throughout the book in such a way that I can imagine and picture it happening while reading.

I was surprised how quickly I finished because it was so difficult to put it down. I just could not stop every chapter kept pulling you onto the next so effortlessly. Once you started reading it was incredibly difficult to stop. Your emotions will be all over the place like an emotional roller coaster but in such a good way. The cliffhanger at the end of the book was epic to the point that I am dying to know what happens next. I am still shocked and left excited to get more of Arya’s Story as well as what happens to all those involved. I have a feeling that the spice will be kicking up a notch in the next book.

I highly recommend all to read this book because you will regret it if you don’t. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to read you incredible book. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for your readers next.

*ARC Review*

This dark-ish fantasy romance was so very good. The world building, the characters, the fae elements, the tension, the emotions - all of it was very well written and executed. I devoured this book and couldn’t put it down!

There is a lot of really cool tropes in this story (reverse harem/why choose, secret identity, trauma healing, dark fantasy, arranged marriage, and more), but my fave part is definitely the found family. I love the found family in this book. Instantly Arya felt connected to her new friends, and even though she is incredibly strong on her own, the safety of her new home helped her on her journey towards healing and finding who she is.

Rain is supposed to be cleansing, but after it washes away the blood, does the sin still remain?

I went through all the feelings and emotions when reading this book, and especially the last chapter, which left on a huge epic wtf just happened cliffhanger - I’m anxiously awaiting the next part of Arya’s story.

There is definitely some heavier elements touched upon in this book, so check the trigger warnings before reading. It is however, not the darkest of dark imo, but still. It is mostly a slow burn story of Arya healing, evolving and seeking revenge.

ARC Reader Review

I could not put it down! Very fast paced and intriguing storyline. The characters are easy to love and vibe together well. The banter between them is witty, sarcastic and fun. I found myself constantly smiling and wishing I could be a part of such a group of friends. The stories of the fae have been told in so many ways and yet I still find authors finding new and unique ways to have their stories told and their magic unfold. It was such an enjoyable read. I certainly will be looking forward to reading more of this series.

This book does touch upon issues that may be triggering for some. Read the trigger warning, only you know what you can handle. I found it to be very mild in comparison with other dark romantasy books. For those who use trigger warnings as a check list, it may not be dark enough lol.

A tale of fae filled with plot twists

I received Enigma as an ARC for early reading, and I thoroughly enjoyed following Arya through her journey. A journey of pain, of fear, of new beginnings and new friendships, love and loss, and trauma.

This book comes with a laundry list of trigger warnings. For some, it is a checklist. For others, a warning to steer clear and/or be wary of what is to come. Anna Lynn Hammar brought several factions of fae to life whilst letting them endure things we mortals are forced to endure during our lives. Assault, loss, grief, conflicting emotions, love, torture and trauma, and far more.

I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this early, and happy to have enjoyed this book as thoroughly as I did. If Arya comes back in a second book, I am certainly planning to read it. After all…that last page was an utter shock.

Well that was a trip! Had me feeling every emotion at the end. What the hell? Whyyyy. I need to read the next one now because I have to know what happens! Thank you so much to the author for this ARC.

We follow Arya, a captured selkie who gets the opportunity to get her skin back by making a deal with the human king. She poses as an ambassador to infiltrate the Fae kingdom and get close to King Akash to complete the deal she made with the human king Roderick. When she arrives she gets very close with all the ambassadors there, and that is when things get interesting.

This story definitely has trigger warnings so heads up before reading. Once again, how could you do this? I need the next one asap.

This book is not at all what I expected! Honestly, I'm not even sure what I expected. All I will say is that the title is accurate. This book is an Enigma in not only how it's written but the twists. I was flabbergasted at that ending. I can't say too much because I believe everyone who reads this book should go into it blind!! Arya is a great character, and her development and strength throughout the story shine through. I'm so impatient for the next book because I can not function without answers right now 🤣🤣 this is what I get for starting a series that 1 isn't finished, and 2 isn't even fully released yet 😑😭

I honestly don't even know where to begin... this book has everything. Makes you feel everything. The characters are so well written. You can't help but to feel pulled into the story. Let me freaking also say the ending.. sent me. I didn't know how to feel at all. I'm literally going to die waiting for the next book, with this one just being released!! This was such a great story, with amazing story line and plot. Not much spice, when reading the story you will understand why, but the potential for future spice is great!

Received this book as an ARC. Thank you for the opportunity to read this.

I devoured this book! Only took 2 days to get through the book. Story was a good pace and never any dull moments. Loved the FMC, the banter between the characters and I still couldn’t tell you who my favourite MC is. Love them all for different reasons.

I am mad at the ending, that being said I would love if there was a book 2.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review
Also I bought the book myself as soon as it came out!

Anyways here we go,
I don’t think I’ve ever been so frustrated and screaming at a book??? This elicited so many emotions from me, I had to physically put the book down and walk away because I was so upset haha.

Some things, I guess I just hate the insanta love trope but in friends, I was confused why she was telling all these people secrets but just barley knew them?? Also I was mad at these guys trying to whoo her after going through all this stuff, let the damn girl breathe!!!!!

However, I devoured this book in like 5ish hours which is good because it’s like 400 pages long, it was a good read. I was angry, bitter, invested all these different emotions. I loved it, and I need there to be a second one or it’s like The Fear all over again and I will forever be mad at the ending of that book smh.

Overall, I feel this story was very well crafted with a great plot twist at the end, so I’m excited to see how it goes. I truly hope this is a reverse harem with the three boys I love otherwise I will not choose and you cannot make me because I love them.

I received this as an ARC, and it was amazing! The last chapter will leave you wondering when book two will be released because everything is not as it seems.

"He should have known better than to kill a Selkie, especially her sister."
This was the quote that made me want to read this book and I loved the dynamic throughout the book between the FMC and her found family.

Ok give me a sec, I’m still recovering from this ending…

First of all: what the fuck Anna??? (In the best way possible).

Enigma tells us the story of Arya, a female fae who’s a prisoner in the human world. Having a plan the human king, Roderick, approaches Arya and offers her skin/coat back if she pretends to be a human ambassador to kill the fae king. Arriving at the fae lands she meets 4 ambassadors and the fae prince, Zephyr. Unfortunately she didn’t come alone, King Roderick sent his spy and head scholar, Phobus, to keep an eye on Arya and make sure she completes her mission. Shortly after her arrival to the fae lands, she was able to prove she was trustworthy and that she was in danger to the other ambassadors and the fae prince. Now they need to find a way to help her get her skin/coat back and also protect the king from the human’s threats.

I couldn’t stop reading from page one! This story will keep you enthralled until you finish it, and the ending? Holy fuck the ending! I was NOT expecting that. Anna, you did an amazing job and I seriously cannot wait for the next book. I definitely recommend this if you want to travel to a new world of faes and magic, with a strong main character healing from severe trauma. And also if you want some amazing love interests. That’s right, plural.

Thank you Anna for sending me the ARC of Enigma 🖤

Are you freakin kidding me!?

I received this ARC and omg I’m so floored by this. This story has all the feels. One moment I was heartbroken for Arya, the next giggling and kicking my feetsies, then sobbing, and finally burning with anger.

This story follows Arya as she works through her horrible past and finds comfort in 5 unlikely friends. She learns to navigate through the human and Fae worlds and finding her true self and the one thing she could never live without. This story is beautifully heartbreaking with twists that I never saw coming.

I absolutely recommend reading this if you want something a little different than your typical fantasy read. When the author says this is a slow burn, she wasn’t kidding 😂 Slow af. But so good. And I have a feeling it will be so worth it in the end. I’m already anticipating the remaining books in this series.

I received this book as an ARC, and dove right into it. The beginning of the novel was well written and the main character Arya seemed like such a badass in the first chapter/prequel. Laughing at her captors and such.

The book took a turn for me shortly after. Arya’s mission is to kill the Fae king and she says very pointedly as she arrives to begin this mission that she CANNOT trust anyone nor can those she will now be living with know of her abuse and the goal she’s been sent to carry out. In what the character says is the second day of being at this castle she has exposed her deepest secrets to almost ALL of the supporting characters. The story seems rushed in order to build the stakes for these characters. The same tension could have been built within a believable timeframe with a few paragraphs describing how she interacted with each of the supporting characters over weeks. The characters and action also seemed to be bouncing around without much description of what was going on, characters are speaking and then they’re magically somewhere else or doing something else with no mention of going or doing anything. It got hard to keep track of what was happening.

Unfortunately the pacing in this novel knocked me off the storyline about half way through and I haven’t been able to finish the book. I will certainly come back to it and try to finish it off at another time.

Can I just say, I threw my kindle once I read the last page. Anna can I say what the f***?!?!

Loved this book from the start, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I wanted to cry, laugh, shriek all at the same time.

I would say my rating is a 4.5 - the only thing I was confused on was the love interest(s) and would get confused at what point they each were at.

Highly recommend Anna’s books and will definitely read others.

ARC review:

“Hello Roddy, come to make a deal with the fae?”

Wow. WOW! What an f’ing ride. This book is detailed, I mean down to every piece of clothing the characters are wearing kind of detailed. That part can be a bit much at times but it still is an incredible read. The FMC is all around an amazing individual, a true survivor of years of torment and torture. This tale includes found family, tragedy, tears, laughter, banter, affairs of the court, and reunions that will make you want to pick up the phone and reach out to your family; chosen or otherwise. The amount of emotions that are weaved within the lines of each chapter will leave you wondering how all of this fit into 275 pages.

The world building, characters and their personalities, win you over so quickly too. You love them immediately. Well, except Phobus and Roderick… we HATE them!! Ugh!

Now the harrowing events that Arya experienced would haunt some straight into a watery grave but not her. Not our bad a$$. Was there long term trauma and MH issues because of it? Yes, absolutely. However, she persevered and her found family helped by giving her a safe space to begin healing.

There are so many memorable lines in this book that it would take a while to type them all out. Just, get yourself the book.

Overall it’s a phenomenal read. Please be mindful of the TW’s (trigger warnings). The ending will blow your mind. Oh and the dedication is a work of literary art LOL. Honestly Ms. Hammar, I need all the books ASAP. You’ve outdone yourself.

I received an ARC for this book and to say I’m ECSTATIC is an understatement!!! This was my first of Hammar’s books and it will absolutely not be my last.

This was a beautiful story of found family and how we deal with what the fates have in store for us. I loved Arya’s wit and humor alongside a healthy dose of mental health rep that was needed for a tragic story like hers. Arya is a strong and capable despite what the world continues to do TO her. The ideas expressed of consent and how it doesn't just apply to intimacy was the thing I loved most in this story and I’m so glad it was written so beautifully.

The rating of 4 stars isn’t accurate as I would truly rate it 4.5. It wasn’t a 5 star read for me, personally, as it was kind of advertised as a Why Choose but the way the plot moved forward, I wasn’t exactly sure if that’s what I was truly reading. I could absolutely be wrong (lol I probably am REALLY REALLY wrong) and this is a heck of a slow burn BUT I needed just a liiiiiittle more clarity on the dynamics of a few of the relationships. There was no spice but the tension was *chef’s kiss*!

Overall, this was a fantastic story that I will be purchasing FOR SURE because it isn’t a story we have read before. It’s original and the perfect antidote to a book slump, if I ever read one! Congrats to Hammar for a truly outstanding book. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for this brilliant young author!

I loved the concept behind this book. The world creation, the enchanting and less-featured magical beings the main characters are based on, and the final twist were the highlights of the story. But the writing style did not click with me. It was a lot of telling the reader (and other characters) what happened or how certain characters were feeling, versus allowing the reader to accompany the characters during their journey. While the writing style did not work for me I liked the plot, especially the final twist and cliffhanger. We don’t get a lot of answers in this book and I finished more confused than when I started, so I will be reading the sequel for answers and I do like most of the characters.

Unfortunately, Arya’s emotional and physical journey to overcome her traumatic past was a very abrupt transformation and was a missed opportunity for the reader to connect with her. I love books where the main characters have traumatized and/or haunted pasts because we get to follow them on a journey to overcome/live with their past horrors. So I was looking forward to seeing how Arya dealt with her, particularly harrowing past (please read the trigger warnings there are some detailed descriptions, and even worse implications). But Arya surpasses her trauma nearly immediately, within the first month of meeting her men, with hardly any lingering after-effects, emotional or physical. With what she experienced I expected Arya to experience some kind of PTSD even after she learned to coexist with her past, but she is only really triggered by seeing the people who hurt her, and even that response lessens drastically over a very short amount of time. Her ability to quickly overcome her trauma might be linked to the end reveal, so I am very intrigued to read the sequel and learn more. Overall, I loved how strong Arya was portrayed to be but wished her growth was slower and more easily observed.

This is a why choose romance, but as of book one it didn’t feel like why choose. I loved all of Arya’s men in the beginning, but near the end, one did something that made me hate him and proved him to be a selfish coward. Despite the ending, I hope he’s not given a second chance with Arya. Otherwise, I am excited to see how their romance will develop in the future, especially since a why choose scenario hasn't developed yet, and I am eager to see how Arya will treat her men in the future, and learn their secrets. I also really want Winslet to be a possible romantic partner for Arya. Despite my complaints, Enigma was an entertaining and cleverly plotted read, and I am eager to read the sequel. This book's ending was brilliant, and I usually hate twists like this one, but this time it just added some more intrigue and (hopefully) future chaos.

I recieved this book as an ARC:

I really liked the worldbuilding and storyline in itself. Even the characters are interesting and have great potential into being amazing.
Buuut for me the pacing was off. It was just not a realisitc timeline regarding the developement of relationships between the characters. It really threw me off, so much that I thought sometimes that I got a wrong ebook and that I just missed some pages inbetween. I tried to love this book so much, but I think there is some work to be done. That being said I think the author has great potential and I will give the second book a chance just to see if there is any improvement regading the things I just mentioned.

DNF. I felt no connection to Arya or any of the characters. Almost immediately she felt like a bad actress ready lines and cosplaying as some bad-ass. We fast forward years later and she finally goes on this mission. Apparently in that time she was being trained on etiquette and how to be a believable human ambassador. We are supposed to believe that other fae can’t tell if she’s fae? Yes her skin was taken but what does that mean?? I didn’t care to know and stopped reading.

Oh and the insta-friends with the other ambassadors? It felt too much like high school and convenient. Like everyone said the pacing was off and it felt too rushed.

I read this Book as an ARC, I absolutely loved it, and devoured it really. I enjoyed the how faced paced it was and the world building was wonderful as well. ARC: I’m going to start by stating that the entire book felt rushed for me. It was a very fast start for instant friendships and romanticism. They are all drawn to each other immediately and I can understand an attraction or wanting to help Arya but it was just too fast of being thrown together for me to enjoy. I feel as though part one needed a lot more depth from the plot to the characters. I DNF for part 2 unfortunately.
