I can’t believe I read the whole thing.

Well, that was just awful. I’m just shocked I actually finished it. The nicknames, the overuse of the word “dude”..just painful.

This had great potential and a catchy start that really drew my attention initially. Unfortunately, almost halfway through the book the writing drastically changed, the plot went all over the place, the main male characters just grew to lack any real dimension, and the main female character was no longer the strong heroine the reader was first introduced to. There was no real consistency in the writing (the mfc had way too many random names!) and I had to force myself to finish this book just to get it off my read list.

This is a very fast pace, fun and spicy book series. There isnt actually noted beginning and ends of each book so I felt like I was just reading one long ass book, but this series delivered on what I wanted it to be.

Gods, hell, mythical creatures and realms with why choose and prophecies.. whats not to love

This series had a solid start, and then it fizzled out in the last 2 books.

Also, I accidentally bought the box set when I thought I got book #1. The books are short, so I didn't mind.

I really wanted to like this

It was over 1000 pages. A complete series but holy cow Marigolds wasn’t a badass chick, she just sounded like an obnoxious spoiled brat, for 1000 pages. Her name is dumb. I dunno why but Marigold just…isn’t badass. In any way, shape or form.

But let’s top that off with 4 different nicknames each dumber than the last…Cookie, Lamb, Rosebud and Buttercup? I mean, ok first off, a nickname is usually derivative but these guys just pulled those names right out of their sculpted asses I guess? Then let’s top that with the fact that her actual name is a flower but two of her nicknames are totally different unrelated flowers? Why?

Oh and that’s not enough…her real name is Celeste? No, wait, Princess Celeste…no…no….it’s Belle Marigold Celeste. Just stop.

There was potential here but damn if the writing was just juvenile. I was hoping that it was just sort of poking fun of itself somehow but there was too much repetition of phrases and overused terms from the genre to believe the author is self-aware and purposely writing tongue in cheek paranormal romance/action/adventure.

The blunt head of his c*ck
She gloved his c*ck
The ever present bead of pre-c*m
Their massive erections
She licks her lips so much I assume she’s got chapped lips.

The possessive/jealous trope is way over played. Plenty of errors in grammar, spelling and syntax throughout. Lots of potential just didn’t follow through on execution.

Four gorgeous demi-gods, all alpha males and a bad a$$, fierce, and sassy female main character! Whta's not to like? Marigold, was just living day by day, trying to survive with her coven until she's forced to go to the Half-Blood Academy. She doesn't just comply either as they expect a "good" soldier to do. She's crass, mouthy, hot-head, and an all around bad b!tch. Axel, Zak, Pakston, and Hector think they can tame her, but how do you tame someone who refuses to bend?

I loved getting to watch Marigold's character development throughout the series as she learns asking for help or receiving help doesn't make you week. The spice factor is off the charts and each scene is hot and steamy! Whew. I thoroughly enjoyed this Why-Choose Fantasy and can't wait to read more of Meg Xuemei's books!

The premise of this series is interesting. It's a unique mix of religion/ mythology/ fantasy. But the writing is juvenile and cringe inducing.

Really more like 3.5 stars, fun but not great execution

Multiple 1st person pov, for the most part. There was one strange chapter that said it was one of the demigods pov, but was actually 3rd person pov, until partway through it switched to 1st person pov for Marigold. It took place partly on Earth, New York mostly, some imaginary town called Crack, also Hell or the underworld, and the Void. It had a HEA, and 2-3 peppers spice. I enjoyed the story idea, but was disappointed with the execution of it. It read like a series of episodes, sometimes within a single chapter. There were constant and very tiresome recollections of things that happened not all that ago, often within the temporal of “once”, making it seem like it must have been a long time ago, at least months or years, when in reality according to the story it was days or at the most a week or 2. This got worse when she first went to Hell, and the timeline fractured, as 2 months in Hell is 2 weeks on Earth. Some similar (or reverse) acceleration seems to have happened in the void, but it was never quite pointed at, other than the comment about One-eight being and other classmates being on the frontlines. Also, the world building was rather inconsistent, like all their powers were muted in the void, but not their mate bond, yet their bond was essentially not present when it was inconvenient to the author. If you build a system or world, at least attempt to be consistent, and don’t try to make it fit your story ideas when the system you created doesn’t allow it. Like I said, I loved the idea of the story, and most of the writing was not bad, but I think 10%-25% could easily be cut, starting with the constant reminders of what happened, and what everyone looks like, and the story speed would be much better too. It felt like great fanfic, with its inevitable periodic style of publishing, but someone should have read it more critically before it was actually published. Even someone as self centered as Marigold would not constantly think to herself: once he was hurting me, but now he’s trying to make up for it (especially when that “once” was less than a month ago.

The Half Blood Academy is the first book I’ve read by Meg Xuemei X, and it certainly has potential. The premise immediately caught my attention: Marigold is brought to the academy to discover which Demi God she serves. However, during the first ceremony, it’s revealed that she doesn't have just one rune, but all of them. This sets the stage for the Demi Gods to enact a pact made years ago, where they share the girl who holds all the runes.

As Marigold navigates her new life at the academy and with her Demi Gods, I did find the angst in the story to be somewhat repetitive. Much of the emotional conflict felt like information we had already been told or could easily figure out on our own. I also appreciated the nicknames used for the characters, though I felt they were a bit overdone at times.

One of my main frustrations was the way the male characters treated Marigold. While they are meant to be powerful, centuries-old Demi Gods, they often seem to view her as incompetent rather than recognizing her strength as a fighter. I would have liked to see them respect and support her more. The two characters I enjoyed most were Hector, the Demi God of Death, and Paxton, the Demi God of the Sea. They were more engaging and had an interesting dynamic with Marigold.

Overall, The Half Blood Academy shows a lot of promise, but I felt that the execution of character relationships and the pacing could have been stronger to fully bring the story to life.

Side Note: This story gave the indication it could be using scenes similarly from; Harry Potter, Winx and Percy Jackson.

This series had me hooked from the first chapter, and I couldn’t stop devouring every single page. The pacing, the drama, the steam, the mythology — everything was so well done.

Marigold is outspoken, unpredictable, strong, and difficult to control — and watching her gradually uncover her origins while confronting four fiercely alpha demigods. Each of them brought something different to the table — whether it was Axel’s fire, Zak’s chaos, Paxton’s edge, or Hector’s grounding presence. The only thing I didn’t fully love was how quickly Marigold got jealous.

There’s this perfect mix of enemies-to-lovers tension, ancient magic, gods misbehaving, brutal trials, and somehow, amidst all that, real heart. The emotional moments hit just as hard as the steamy ones. And the way the story flows from one book to the next without a single dull moment? Chef’s kiss. Meg Xuemei X understood the assignment and then some.

If you love a badass heroine, sexy demi-gods who would destroy the world for her, and a plot that keeps your pulse racing, Half-Blood Academy is it.

I do love this story and the characters within it however the author does repeat things unnecessarily throughout. It’s almost like reviewing this that have already happened repeatedly. Aside from that I like the multiple twists and turns. I would say it’s rather juvenile, if not for the spicy scenes I would have assumed it was young adult.

I’m still rating this fairly as I do like the storyline, even with the juvenile feel. There were aspects that moved too quickly such as all the demigods declaring her their mate, but I do love her spitfire personality.

I don’t like how Lilith is presented, almost as if the fight bothers her. It’s slightly infuriating that she came from nowhere and dealt the killing blow. Not to mention the author has the main characters swearing constantly with childish insults. At first it was humour, later just became irritating.

I do like Loki and wished he was featured a little more. But I’m sure the next series is about him 😁

The prologue has a demigod thinking more with what is in his trousers than his head; and I thought I would be getting a lot of that every other page. Surprisingly though, there is some plot between the insta-lust.
The main female character, Marigold, is full of contradictions - in some hands it could provide complex character development, but here it just felt inconsistent. It was like the author couldn't decide about Marigold's supernatural heritage and decided to include all of them at once. Also, as soon as a hot demigod appears, her personality disappears as she can only think about getting some action.
Speaking of those scenes, they felt shoehorned in and very much pwp that didn't add much to the actual story. And some of the phrases used were more funny than sexy. Don't get me started on the pet names...
I kinda liked the world which features a mix of Greek mythology, war against Lucifer and a magic school. But, it is such a trashy read.

Interesting idea

This starts off pretty good and is an interesting twist with myths and religion as the base. Unfortunately after a while some things really start to repeat and it could be something from a couple pages ago or a couple of chapters. I found this type of repetition irritating. The sex didn't feel completely necessary each time it came up and felt more like filler, kind of.how the repetition felt. Also found how often demigods was used in such short spaces a bit much. We don't need the reminder our four males are demigods every other sentence or even multiple times in one sentence. Overall it was a good read that dragged on occasion. I'm am interested in other books by this author so I'll see if these issues I have are a common occurrence in her books.

Wanted so much to like and finish this book, but I just couldn’t. The story had SO much potential and started off with a strong female main character. However, as the story progressed the FMC became reliant on the demigods. Also, I could not get past the nicknames 🤢. At first I would just skip over the pet names the demigods had for the FMC, but they started to become more frequent and unavoidable the more the story went on. The demigods treated the FMC like she was a damsel in distress and as if she was 10 years old. It was just odd. Plus calling her “princess” “cookie” “rosebud” and “buttercup” were not supportive pet names for a strong, independent FMC, which was even pointed out in the book several times by other characters.

Wow

I’ve read 3 of the stories and I’m so glad I waited to read the rest in this book. It was perfect! Every book felt like it had a conclusion to its own personal book, but they all tied together in the last. I do wonder what happened to Lucifer. He’s the only one that disappeared. I loved this omnibus. Truly. The plot kept moving forward. I loved how Hector treated her amazing right from the gecko. I do wish there was more of a description the first time he saw his lamb as it was only mentioned in passing.
The guys all fell in love with even if it was done silently while they somewhat bullied and torturerd her. Wish it was longer!

The first few pages were great and I loved it. After that it went downhill QUICK. I think the author was attempting to do enemies to lovers but it all just came out really random. One page talking about how hot they are and how much she wants to bang them, and the next page acting like she wasn't thirsting over them and had 0 feelings. Acting like she wanted them dead, literally nearly fucking like 2 in the first few chapters. So nothing really made sense.

I don't even know if this is RH or not because suddenly she's liking other dudes too. This was just the weirdest book. I lost interest 15% in

Great series!

I love reading a good book about the old gods, demigods, demons…and this series had all that and more!
Human girl with purple hair and green eyes, her 2 wards, one a wolf shifter, the other a young witch, run afoul of Axel, son of Ares, the god of war. Amazed that she can withstand his powerful psychic command to kneel. That’s all it takes for her to be whisked off to the half blood academy to determine which god she is descended from. This ritual each new initiate goes through is the beginning of a journey for Marigold and the 4 demigods that reign over what’s left of the human realm.
This is a really good read! Snap it up!!!

Not exactly my usual read but it was my current nighttime pick. The series had potential so I finished it but I got really sick of all the pet names, all the time. I needed the demigods to be more adult in relation to Marigold and it made me laugh that the excessive names were sort of addressed.....though that didn't really go anywhere. So....I don't know. Also, "Icy Dagger".....I hated it. But I enjoyed the mythology quite a bit at least. I saw another review that said it started pretty decent but fizzled at the end and I agree. Way too much repetition of what we already read started happening for me.

I'll probably read Loki's series as my next nighttime read though.

Half-Blood Academy box set is a complete set of the Underworld Bride Trials Universe, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I'd previously read the first book of the series and decided to read the whole Half-Blood series at once. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, although there was a bit of "cut and paste"-like duplicity (e.g. supe 101 references were almost identical information). I didn't read the Hitched series, as recommended, since the storyline didn't interest me as much, but I found the series easy to follow without have backgrounds on the other characters.

DNFd during 2nd book. So I really tried to read this serious and I got through the first one barely and started reading the second one and all the characters are so immature especially the fmc. Also I'm not 100% sure why she doesn't like Paxton very much when the only thing she doesn't like him for are the same things that some of the other guys have done to her too and he's more honest with her than some of the other ones. The nicknames all around just getting annoying. So I DNFd 12 chapters into the second book.

Not what I expected

I've never given a bad review but I found the story line confusing in some chapters. It was like going back and forth like some of Marigolds lines were too childish than most. I didn't know if the book was more for younger readers or adults. I don't like the way her character was portrayed either, she sounded more like an entitled spoiled little girl than a young woman in her twenties. I read many reviews from other readers that gave a higher review than me but sad to say I have ri disagree with them, I don't think I would recommend this book.

The story idea is good so far. But it’s like jam packing an entire 10 book story into 5. It’s rushed with no explanations. It throws sex around like it’s the answer to everyone’s prayers instead of it being a magical experience. Especially marigolds first time. The 4 demigods flip a switch from vicious enemy’s to lovers in less than the first 3 chapters making zero sense. The writing itself feels like a child’s. Each character blends into another so no character is its own. I’m sure there will be more.

Amazing

I absolutely enjoyed that all 5 books were together. It was beautifully written and I was pleasantly surprised to learn it had been seamlessly mashed together. I expected cuts where each book began and Meg had turned it into 1 giant book. I love how strong Mari is and how even though she's strong, the demigods are still absolutely caveman like and protective. They bend but dont stray and I adore that honestly. Instead of a complete personality trait. Only 4 stars because I loved it but wasnt totally THERE. A beautiful book that I will gladly recommend though!

This series setup as one long e-book was really enjoyable for me. This was a great read.
"She was a puzzle I needed to solve."
The FMC is mouthy and sassy to the point of near unlikability, but not quite. I loved her. Her mates all have very different personalities and they all fit together for her. Her family, well, they love her so much they are willing to lose her to empower her. The development of the characters and the world was incredible. The plot had constant action where it was hard to find a stopping point to put it down. One of the best books I've read.

DNF -poorly written

I tried so very hard to get into this story. The premise seemed interesting but It’s so poorly written. There’s zero character development and the MFC seems to devolve, if anything. She’s annoying and reads as if the author was trying way too hard, but had no vision.

The repetition is also ridiculous and feels either condescending to the reader, or like it’s filler. There’s a lot of telling and little showing. Word choice is also very basic and sometimes connotation doesn’t quite fit. I wondered, is it AI?

This is such a great set of books. What a fantastic set of books. I inhaled these books so fast I don't even think I came up for air. The stories were so well written and thought out I love Meg's books and ALWAYS look forward to them. The great thing about this box set is you don't have to wait for the next book because you're diving right into it. So wonderfully told with action, adventure and twist and turns that will make your head spin and so much fun to read.

Half-Blood Academy series, box set 1…

KU read, highly recommended…

This is a set of books about four Demi-gods and the one woman who is made for them. I don’t normally care for RH plots but this is one of the exceptions. I love Meg X and her writing, so this box set (1 of 3) was a must read. Now I’m off to the next set of underworld bride trials, which I think I’ve read already! Guess I’ll figure it out… LOL

Great read, and I really enjoyed it.

Demigods and a different view

Sexy demigods check
All powerful female lead check
Lots of adventure, violencs and love check
This book is a perfect mixture of everything. Folllow the female lead as shes kidnapped several times. She thought she was only a human living in the world full of demons and part gods. But turns out shes the strongest of them all. I loved having all the books in one book so after one books done you just continue reading.
