Return to the story about a world without power where a group of strong women have come together to not only survive the apocalypse but thrive in it.
Still haunted by her time in the Middle East, Sergeant Geri Fischer is grateful to be stationed in the simple, almost boring town of Astoria. When First Sergeant Taylor Barnes asks her to escort a civilian on a mission, she accepts out of duty, or at least until she meets the woman she is assigned to protect.
Julia Sharpe wants to restart a US postal route, beginning in Astoria and ending in San Francisco. The only practical means is to go by train, but parts of the journey travel through dangerous territory. For her protection, she is assigned a military escort, which she doesn’t want.
The world Sam and Laura have built together with their children is nearly perfect. There is nothing Laura would change about it, but Sam can’t shake an idea, a dream that is close to her heart. An idea that will test their love, courage, and desire for a new beginning.
Taylor and Jackie run the bustling town of Astoria together with tremendous success. Rarely do they not see eye-to-eye on an idea. Yet, when one town member’s proposal comes between them, things become a little less easy and are only made more complicated when trouble rides into town.
If you like stories with romance and adventure mixed with conflict and heroism, then you will love KC Luck’s page-turning new book “Darkness Unknown.” This full-length novel, which can be read as a stand-alone book, is closely tied to the previous stories in the best-selling Darkness series, starting with “Darkness Falls.” These books have an end-of-the-world/dystopian theme but are significantly more focused on strong and capable female characters in loving, sapphic relationships.
Bestselling author KC Luck writes women loving women action-adventure, contemporary romance, and fiction. Writing is her passion, and nothing energizes her more than creating new characters facing trials and tribulations in a complex plot. Whether it is apocalypse, contemporary, or a little naughty, with every story, KC tries to add her own unique twist. She has written nine books (which include The Darkness Trilogy and The Lesbian Billionaires Club series) and multiple short stories across many genres. KC is active in the LGBT community and is a member of the GCLS Board of Directors.
Eager to hear from readers, KC would be thrilled to get emails (kc.luck.author@gmail.com) or follows on her Facebook Page (@kcluckauthor).
OMG I binge listened to this entire audio book today. What an awesome way to spend my Sunday. I find this entire series so engaging and believable on so many levels. I appreciate how new characters are introduced and how the depth of returning characters grows deeper in the moment and the impact of their disclosing more of their backstory as their relationships develop. I have not one negative comment about this or any of the Darkness series books. I suggest you read or listen to all six of them in order, it will not make linear sense any other way. My hope is that KC Luck will continue to write this series for years like some of the main stream non sapphic authors do. I would listen to these women in Astoria for the rest of my life. They are awesome in all the ways I wish to be. I truly appreciate the representation that shines in this work.
Join the women of Astoria as they continue to develop their community. Julia, ex-postmistress wants her job back but how do you start a postal system without electricity? Callie is pregnant and about to have a baby. With hormones running wild she wants her mom. Who is the menacing cowboy dressed in black; and what does he want from Astoria? City Manager, Jackie Scott, wants to say yes to a saloon business plan, but sheriff, First Sargent and wife Taylor Barnes isn’t sure a bar looking like a Wild West saloon is a good idea in the thriving community. Wait, Mrs. Weeks wants a Country Fair? There is always so much going on in Astoria: romance, new friends, new ideas to link communities, suspense, wild storms, and the will power to thrive without the conveniences of the 21st century.
KC Luck's Darkness series is a unique lesbian adventure series set in a world where planetary issues have ended electrical power. Darkness Unknown, the sixth book in the series, takes us back to Astoria, Oregon, where lesbians have led the revival and maintenance of a thriving town. This book includes a train journey to a city that has not fared so well, Sacramento, California, in an attempt to set up postal service despite the lack of a federal postal service. There's some danger, but brave lesbians are likely to cope.
I've given the book five stars in recognition of the achievement in creating a series.
So many things to think about in a post -apocalyptic world.
KC Luck and her intrepid characters explore them all in the Darkness series. She manages to keep things real and envisions a world where courageous actions by a few people can make a difference for a whole community.
The characters are real. The romance is subtle. There is just enough drama. Enough good gals and guys to keep the Darkness at bay. Now I have to go back and re-read the series.
Darkness Unknown- About Time to bring horses into the story arc!
It's funny how great minds connect! My wife and I were just discussing the lack of horses as transportation in this post apocalyptic world about a month ago.
Having read MUCH Sci Fi novels over the years it only makes sense to seek out horses as multi functional use in a place that has been thrown back into the 19th century. And here is KC in this new book focused on horses! Great job KC ... Carry on!
Looking forward to the next in the series! Lots of new threads to weave together!
We catch up with the gang and meet a few more people. The big thing going on in town will be the county fair and the saloon. We meet Julia she worked for the US government post office as a mail carrier and wants to try and start delivering mail again. With the help of Sergeant Geri they travel to Sacramento to deliver a letter. Read the wonderful book to see what happens and hopefully we will get another book about what is happening in San Francisco.
Jackie and Taylor are still leading the town of Astoria into the future as they rebuild the town and grow the community. When the town Post Master suggests that they re establish mail delivery Alton the train route to the south it seems like a winning strategy. With an army sergeant for protection, Julia sets out on an initial evaluation tour. A wonderful summary the strong sapphic women who saved a town.
I don't like how the end of the world keeps emphasizing the role of reproduction, what's the point? When resources are scarce, how much danger do women put themselves in by giving birth, and hasn't a single person thought about it ???? A child's life is a life, but a woman's life is not? ???? Of course, once again, there are little boys everywhere and the author has no logic at all when it comes to plot setting
I can’t say enough about how much I love this book! As usual the inclusion of new characters and a growing love interest was wonderful! The way this book portrayed almost all of the characters from previous books added a spicy flavor and twist to the adventure of reading. Keep the story coming! Outstanding writing by a great author.
Once again KC Luck worked her magic storytelling abilities to bring us a wonderful addition to her Darkness series. New characters are presented with detailed backstories to add freshness to her universe as well as characters from other books she's written about this world. I'm excited to see what KC comes up with next.
I want more of the Darkness series. Who am I kidding. I love all of K.C.LUCK's books. I love how all of the characters come together to not only survive but to make a life. To write about that many characters takes talent. You can't go wrong with one of her books.
Wow this was the best one so far of making this grown woman cry and my heart ponding like a freight train of the action. Great job and please keep it going ,this is just too good.
I thought it a little slower than the first books in the series, but it ended well. Like the others, new characters were added. New villains were mentioned as well, setting up future dilemmas that will have to be dealt with. Overall it was a decent read.
The heroes start looking into expanding connections to other survivors and maybe restarting the Post, but discover there are a lot of towns still war zones and outlaws all over.
Good semi-conclusion, though apparently there's trouble in Las Vegas.
