A Monstrous World #3

The Monster's Desire

Rate this book
The picturesque town of North Falls is as beautiful as it is deadly. When Nadia is called to help deliver a human woman's little elven babies, she knows she can't say no. After all, she's masquerading as a fertility witch since blood witches were hunted out of existence several generations ago. But North Falls isn't like any other sanctuary city Nadia has been to and the differences are enough to make her blood boil. Haven is run by decent monsters, but a corrupt council with an agenda of their own leads North Falls. The ward around their town is failing and they aren't above compelling the witch to their bidding. Everything will have to fall into place for her to survive the trip. Unfortunately for Nadia, her luck has never been all that great. Add in a rogue alpha wolf, a council-appointed vampire guard who would be more accurately described as a spy, and a couple of demons from her past and it looks like she might just have a fighting chance. Well, until the council ups the ante that is. Will her newfound protectors be enough to keep her alive? Or will they run when they learn her secrets?

This book is set in the A Monstrous World Series. It's an interconnected standalone that features a new female main character. It was designed so that you can jump in here if you prefer, but you'll likely get more enjoyment reading them in order. It's Nadia's complete romance. No cliffhanger!

I get so tired of books with man whores that this author is my happy place! You get men always devoted to the MFC no cheating. No skeezy other woman drama. I loved this. It's slower burn than the other two but delicious!

“Gods, Nadia. I want to devour you. Eat you alive. Claim you as mine.”

Jillian West sure knows how to deliver a light-hearted, spicy monster romance! I love knowing that going in, it will be low on angst and high on smut! Such an easy read.

There is excellent world-building and character development for all of Nadia’s mates. I’m always a fan of mixed species packs. She acquires a vampire, a wolf shifter, and two demons to lavish her with love.

I enjoyed cameos of my favorite characters from the earlier two books. Their stories are tightly intertwined, so I recommend reading them in publication order for the best experience.

This is fast burn with copious amounts of MF and MFM+ scenes. There is some primal chasing, claiming bites, hole fillings, knots, and even a heat scene. It wouldn’t be a monster romance without at least one of the males having a breeding kink – we get all four wanting to breed their mate.

I highly recommend this series of interconnected standalones. I hope Jillian continues to add stories to this world.

Genre: Monster Romance
Tropes/Features: Forced proximity, fated mates, accidental soul bonding, age-gap, mixed species pack – vampire, wolf shifter, and demons, reaper and soul eater MMCs, virgin MMC, centuries-long celibate MMC, blood witch FMC, monsters who fall first, group scenes, DP/DVP/TP, heat, knotting, breeding kink, primal play, all the naughty talk, mystery, comedy
Narrator: Multiple 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: Why Choose MFMMM, fast burn, spicy (heat, knotting, breeding kink, group play)
Book Type/Ending: Interconnected Standalone in A Monstrous World series. HEA
TW/CW: Very in-depth listing in book.

• Monster/Shifter Romance
• Feisty FMC
• Unbelievable world-building
• Very spicy scenes
• Accidental soul bonding
• Virgin MMC
• Breeding Kink

I'm devouring this series! And I'm loving every second! I don't know why I've pushed these books off for so long. Especially with how much I love Jillian West's omegaverse books!

Jillian West has always impressed me with her writing, but the world-building in this particular book was incredible! The way she builds each location and helps you envision every encounter these characters run into had me questioning if I was watching a movie or listening to an audiobook! It's perfectly described.

I'm also blown away by the way she's handled introducing each species and how they coexist. I honestly have no idea how to describe how cool this series has been!

I was so excited when I found out it was Nadia's book next! I loved her spicy adventurous side. As you can imagine as a Blood witch she was a very feisty FMC. But she also had the most tender side. Especially when it came to the people she cared about. And helping others that she had the power to save.

We also got another incredible pack full of different shifters and monsters. The way Jillian had built these packs is perfect. They are beautifully balanced! And the relationship between each of them is so much fun to read about. This pack was probably my favorite so far! Each of them were just so complex, but so well-balanced. First, we had Echo a vampire with a very unfortunate past he's trying to escape. I loved his playful side so much! Then we had Ridge an alpha wolf shifter who allows his overprotective wolf to come out and play from time to time. We also get a DELICIOUS "you better run" scene between him and Nadia! It was sooo hot! Then there was Knight a sin eater and Wraith a Reaper. They, unfortunately, had a pull to another realm that only allowed them to come to Nadia when she called! But if she called these two came running. I loved the relationship between Knight and Wraith!! But even though these guys aren't with Nadia nearly as much as they would like to be we still got some unbelievable spice scenes with them in it!

I had so much fun listening to Nadia's harem come together! Swoon!!!

🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧
Duet Narration
Narrated by Melissa Moran and Michael Gallagher

I'm looking forward to continuing this series, but sad to say goodbye to these two narrators. They have been such a joy to listen to while I've binged this series! I'm still so blown away by Michael's ability to switch from one accent to another. And the more books I listen to the more I'm floored. He has brought every single one of these men in this series PERFECTLY to life. Each having their own voice and accent. And has zero issue switching from one character to another in seconds. It's so impressive! I need more of Melissa's audiobooks in my life. I've fallen in love with her as a narrator through this series! She did such an incredible job on all the FMC's voices, but I think her as Nadia was my favorite! She nailed Nadia's feisty, but tender personality! I'll be looking out for more of her audiobooks in the future!

We met Nadia in the previous books as a sex worker and a fertility witch who was friends with the two previous hs. In this one she's sent to another town to help repair the ward and to help another female with her pregnancy. Little did she know she'd find so much more

******
Given that this author is always safe in the books I've tried from her I honestly expected a different explanation for the sex worker job esp as from my understanding the demons were visiting her during the time of her employment. Colour me surprised because she actually was a sex worker and enjoyed her job
The guys follow the lines of the previous books with one being a virgin, one celibate for a while and no real details on the others. We've got an Alpha wolf, a vampire, a reaper demon and a sin eater demon.
I love how the guys are always protective and absolutely devoted to the h
Again the sexy times just reminded me of a seriously bad porn, you know the ones with the very obvious fake screaming and moaning 😂
All in all it was a pretty ok read

OMG!🖤
I was so excited for the 3rd book of this series and it didn’t disappoint! I loved Nadia from book one and couldn’t wait to meet her guys! Nadia is a fertility witch (so you think😉), Ridge is a wolf shifter, Echo is a vampire, Wraith is a reaper and Knight is a sin eater. Nadia’s guys are so very swoon worthy and I loved them all! Nan is one of my favorite side characters. I hope that we get more of these wonderful groups in the future! If you like monster RH then this series is for you!🖤

This was perfect. I loved it from start to finish.

Nadia’s story held the same tone as the previous two books set in this world but was filled with more psychotic/alphahole men! The plot itself was a little darker, taking place in North Falls instead of Haven. I adored getting a peak at the world outside of their sanctuary and meeting so many wonderful other characters along the way! I can’t wait to see what this world holds next!

This book is book three of interconnected standalones. Let me tell you I didn’t know how much I needed Nadia’s story till I started reading this. From page one I was hooked and I couldn’t put it down. I’m obsessed and if you like monster romances you’re 100% going to need to read this.

Idk what Jillian puts in her books to make them this good but dang it’s addicting and amazing!

Ugh. I don’t know why I keep reading these, expecting different. Too insta-love and no real depth to the characters or relationships. The plots is all over the place since the stories in this series all interconnect in real time. I only finished because it was a quick read.

DNF at 70%

I just couldn’t finish. The writing was so bad. There was zero believable relationship or character development and this was riddled with plot holes. It’s like the author wanted to write pure monster smut but figured she needed a plot and just threw one together without any thought or planning. I do not recommend.

This book felt quite slower than the first two. I felt it wasn't as romance forward, and I didn't feel that connection to any of the characters. It starts before the end of the previous one, but I feel like in Aline's case, since Atlas was there to keep you interested in what was going to happen, I didn't mind it as much. Nadia's mates, however, take much longer to make an appearance, so the beginning was slower.
The reason I wasn't as fond of these characters: Nadia's personality isn't very clear. She is facing quite a bit of misfortune, because absolutely everything she does goes south. I have no idea how to describe her, though. Which is one of the reasons I feel like she lacked an identity. She is selfless, yes, but she striked me as a badass from the first book, willing to help others in her own defiant way, and although she does go out of her way to aid those who need it, that's pretty much it. She knew Knight and Wright before the book began, and only felt real attraction to Ridge, because she does not like Echo, but is forced with him.
Echo isn't very likable, to be honest. I feel like what Lithe lacked in humanity, he made up with in charm, but at the beginning Echo states that he doesn't care about throwing Nadie to the wolves as long as it serves him in his purpose, and I don't think there's a clear shift in his attitude. He's always irritated by her. He's jealous of her and Ridge, and soon enough, they are together themselves, but it came out of nowhere. The only thing binding them was the council.
I wish we got to see more of Knight and Wright. I've liked them since they got out of hell with Malice. I feel like they could have been interesting, charming characters, specifically with their lack of social skills, their demonic powers, and their weird bond, but they don't appear constantly until the last third of the book. And then, they are mostly running around putting down fires, so we don't get to see much of their dynamic with Nadia, which is a shame. They had a very promising beginning with her.
I really liked Ridge. He was strong-willed and had an attitude, but he was perfect toward Nadie. I loved the combination of him and his monster, but that was probably due to him being present for most of the book, alongside Echo. He was charming and grumpy, but loving, savage, and caring, and that's the reason I read this type of books🔥
Overall, I think the conflicts were blown out of proportion unnecessarily. The fact Knight made Nadia forget about them was not only inconvenient, but it didn't make much sense either. I'm not sure how it protected her, or what the risks were. Who was going to ask her anything when no one knew about them? No one knew they knew her. No one knew their true identity. Why make her forget them, if it wasn't only to not solve all the conflicts of the book too fast? Idk.
The deal with the council was complicated, but also all over the place. We didn't get to learn how exactly Octavia got involved in all their issues, and it's hard to believe she wouldn't have known about them, because she strikes me as a very careful, thorough monster. We don't know either why Nadia's magic was failing her so spectacularly, because even though she said it seemed to have a personality of its own, even she thought it was strange how it had stopped protecting her since coming to town. Again, it felt awfully convenient, given there were many problems that could have been solved if it had worked.
I don't feel great about the explanations of the witches' thing and the attack either. It made sense that Kash was behind the witches' disappearances, considering he tried that thing with Nadie at the beginning, but him also being behind the issues in this book is not very climactic, because he's very dead. In Carina's and Shelby's case, I know we don't know them as much to know what they'd be capable of, but orchestrating an attack that almost killed Nadia was just sloppy. They are rational, intelligent women, and the only thing they thought of was pretending an attack when Nadia was obviously going to be spent, as well as Echo?
There were too many issues with the plot and characters for me to enjoy this book. The ending was cute enough, with the baby monsters, but I'm not sure it made it all worth it.
2.5, definitely not as great as the previous ones.

The plot background was interesting, also the characters and their quirky behaviour. I didn't at all like the smutty scenes. They weren't palatable at all. When Nadia was forced to put on a show with Garth I nearly puked. Thank god this was solved very fast without a backwards breakfast....

I legitimately think I say this in every review but Jillian writes some of the best romances! Her monster romances are such a cozy, fun escape for me, and “The Monster’s Desire” is no different!

With this being the third book in the series, we’re already rather familiar with Nadia. Unlike book two, this book picks up with little time break, meaning we don’t spend a good part of the book rehashing what already happened previously.

Nadia, our FMC, must go to a neighboring sanctuary town to help them with an emergency. Very shortly after arriving, she realizes that things are not as they seem. Unlike her hometown of Haven, this new sanctuary town is hiding many secrets.

Over time, Nadia becomes connected to Echo, vampire, and Ridge, alpha wolf. These men, while very different from one another, were so hot! Both are such dominant, alpha males and had such hot scenes. One of my favorite micro tropes is FMC + shifter male + vampire male, and this was done so well. Not long after that, we meet Knight and Wraith, two demons. Needless to say, Nadia had her hands full with this group.

Unlike the other books in the series, I would actually say that this book is more plot than spice. If you’re looking for raunchy smut, you’ll have to be quite patient.

Smut aside, still a fantastic novel with some fun characters. I hope we get more monster romance from West in the future!

Jillian finally gave us Nadia's story, and it is so freaking good. I loved Nadia in previous stories already, and having her own story is absolutely what she deserved.
Nadia's book is a bit different compared to the other Den stories because she herself is very different from Aline and Emerson. Her inner voice is so relatable, and she's so deadpan funny and sarcastic. The Monster's Den and the Monster's Wife were both already so satisfying to read, and nooo I don't mean it in the spicy way😉 (but it's not lacking that at ALL!!)
You don't have to necessarily read them upfront, but there are crossovers in storyline and characters, so it was nice seeing them progress further from their own endings.
I can't push this enough, Jillian is my queen of epilogues. I said it once and from there on in every review! I highly appreciate putting certain tropes into the epilogue because that makes them skippable. Not for me, though. I love this wholesome conclusion of everything, having the pov from every important character for closure and, you know, that certain trope 😉
I loved it. There's nothing more to say, I would read 20 more stories in the Den's universe!!
Thank you, Jillian West, for the opportunity reading and getting a copy for free in exchange for an honest review

I love this author and her books and was excited to read Nadia’s story here as Book 3. These stories all follow the same timelines and have characters interspersed throughout from previous books-so it’s best to start with book one to keep things straight. But keep in mind each book features a different fmc and her harem of monsters.

The Monster’s Den is book one I think. So def start there.

3 stars for the editing-there were odd jumps in the story, details missing and it didn’t read smoothly at times. Disjointed is a word that came to mind as I read. It felt disjointed. I would read something and think wtf? Where did this come into play???
Phrases were repeated and sometimes on the same page. This story felt rushed. Both in the sloppy edits and in how the story felt too. 🥲

4 stars overall bc I love this series and world and enjoy the low angst stories JW gives to us! It was a fun book to read and that’s why it still gets 4 stars from me. She also has excellent content warnings before chapter one.

Nadia has her own hea in this story and I really loved her harem!♥️

Loved it

I was super excited to get Nadia's story. I like her mates and I was super that 2 were Malice's cluster mates. I found that bond adorable. They were like brothers. The tension with Ridge and echo was antsy and I kept going okay how are these two total opposites going to bond and get on the same page. I liked getting to know each mate. I was super excited for the epilogue and how many little ones and when I found out about echo and ridge then knight and Wraith I was so excited I was hoping for something like that with Aline and I'm glad I got it with Nadia. I hope we get charity's story and the next generation as well. I look forward to seeing which Kids of the ladies end up with each other. Especially with how special some of them are with their lines. Great book, it had excitement, tender moments, and it also made me laugh. I highly recommend.

Normally I find it kind of annoying when interconnected standalones in a series overlap timeline, so starting the next book goes back in time a bit. But somehow it really works for this series. I have LOVED each book and enjoy how much overlap in storyline and characters there is.

This book mostly took place outside of Haven, so it was nice to see more of the broader world this author has created. As always, there was a fantastic mix of different personalities amongst the MMCs. They were all amazing. I enjoy the variety of creatures represented in this series. Want monsters? Why choose just one species? 😄

Definitely recommend this series and this book! I’m excited to read the next in the series!

I really enjoyed Nadia's character arc. She is one of those fmcs who really cares about others, and it gets her into trouble because she can't say no. With the help of her mates, she grows into her powers and accepts the changes her magic brings about. Expect all the babies in this one, as her friends are pregnant, and her own mates are trying to knock her up too. lol I love it!

I loved finally getting to read Nadia’s story. She intrigued me during the other books and this didn’t disappoint. All her pack mates are adorable. I think Wraith is my favorite with his clueless, ‘I don’t know how to act with a female’. I loved the introduction into new fae species and shifters this book brought. I’d love to see more of this world Jillian’s created. The idea of a Haven for all makes my romance loving heart eternally happy 💕💕💕

Superb!

I adored The Monster’s Desire. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d find A Monstrous World book that I loved/liked as much as I did with Emerson and her monster’s. The Monster’s Desire was everything and more!! Nadia is the PERFECT mix of intelligence and innocence. Yes, yes, she’s a sex worker…but she still retains this innocence about her that makes her character adorably sweet…and pure, despite her job.

**SPOILERS/OPINIONS**

Nadia is called away from Haven (her home) to attend the birthing of a human who is having half Fae babies. While she’s there she is also supposed to strengthen the ward around the town. However, she didn’t anticipate what would be waiting for her once she reached North Falls, the town that is ruled by a “council” of very corrupt supernaturals. Nadia is tethered/anchored to Two demons (even though she has known them for years she was forced to forget them until the time was “right”). While in North Falls, the council has her tether their lackey a.k.a. Spy, Echo, a vampire to her as well. In addition to this calamity of an event (in Nadia’s mind) she saves a member of an Alpha Wolf’s pack, and thus said alpha realizes that Nadia is his mate!! So now Nadia is bound in firm or fashion to four creatures, and for Nadia, who is used to “rolling with the punches,” she basically takes it all in stride. The men in her life have to “adapt” especially the non demon ones, because unlike the demons, they weren’t aware that they’d have to share a mate. But after some wicked awesome adventure, and twists and turns, the group of men with Nadia as their sweet nucleus form a fantastic team!

I really adored Nadia’s character! Just like in Emerson’s book, she’s a mixture of smart, worldly and yet innocent and pure…oh, and quirky :) it’s quite adorable. It’s wonderful that after years of thinking that sex was all she needed (she is a sex worker after all) she realizes her life is so much more complete with men that LOVE HER, for her, and not just the sex. Each guy in this book is written sooooo well! Each one brings something to Nadia that she NEEDS! I love the demons, loved then from the beginning. But also adored the surly, broody Alpha, ridge. And for all his posturing and high handed nature, Echo becomes a great mate and protector to Nadia, despite their rocky start, and his cold demeanor toward Nadia when she first arrived in town. I mean, hey, he’d been tied to a psycho powerful vampire mistress for over three centuries!! No wonder he was hesitant to trust another person, let alone a female. He soon realizes that Nadia is nothing like his mistress/sire, that she truly IS A GOOD SOUL, and begins to fall for her. It’s kinda impossible not to fall in love with the cute quirky blood witch - who has a lot of other untapped power in her arsenal that is explored and discovered in this book.

I loved The Monster’s Den, Emerson’s story, but think I enjoyed The Monster’s Desire just as much! It’s a fantastic read. And although it’s a “standalone” it will make a LOT MORE SENSE if you read the first two book in the series in order. Because characters from the other books pop in and out, quickly yes, but they do make short appearances in The Monster’s Desire.

If you like A Monstrous World , the series, you won’t want to miss out on this addition!!!

P.S. I LOVE that we get more than one epilogue and it’s usually from multiple POV’s. It really gives you further insight into the characters lives, and their continued existence!!

The Monster's Desire by Jillian West book 3 in The Monstrous World series
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶🌶💀💀
Book 3 is filthy, feral and suspense driven with a deep mystery to solve. Answers to some lingering questions from Book 1 The Monster's Den and Book 2, The Monster's Wife are answered. Best part it hints to future books too. And I am here for all of it. I can't get enough of these characters and their personalities.
Nadia is asked to repair the wards at North Falls and help deliver elf babies. But she's met with hostility and worrisome issues. Soul bound to a Reaper, Wraithe and Sineater, Knight after saving her from Khas after he summoned Malice. She's tethered to a vampire lackey Echo to ensure compliance and the mate to an alpha, Ridge. During all this chaos she is helping young girls, healing the injured and staying alive. Action-packed, thrilling and page turning excitement.
Topes:
Fated mate. Soul bound. Tethered by compulsion. Mystery. Omegaverse. Knots. Heats. Pregnancy. Found family. Mixed species harem.
Quotes:
“Dude, are you feeling all right?” Knight pops up right in front of me. I barely hold back the jolt as he manifests from nothing to solid. “Did they body snatch you? Blink once for no or repeatedly if you need help.”

“I really love that I knew you’d come. I didn’t even have to question it. I trusted that you’d be here if you got my call.” I smile, shaking my head. She’s exceptionally cute and not afraid of me at all.

“For hundreds of years, I served a maker who was very much a vile kind of monster.” He leans in close. “I’ve just been with someone of my own free will for the first time since I was turned.” His hand brushes over my cheek. “Please remember what I said—you and I are a team.”

DNF @ 85%.

i liked this well enough, though i do think the amount of heroes was too high for the page count. some heroes got a lot more scenes than others, so some of them ended up feeling superfluous. more isn't always better; i'd rather there be three heroes than four, if there's no time to develop all those connections.

i DNF'ed because the heroine isn't sure she wants to have babies, and then the heroes tell her that her birth control isn't working anymore (because magic). so she tries to abstain from sex until she has had more time to think about it, since she doesn't feel ready. this is all very responsible of her.
BUT then she gets to hold a baby and immediately goes "oh okay i guess we can have kids because they're so cuddly!". it seemed super weird for her to just change her mind like that, and it's a pet peeve of mine when people have kids because "they're cute", as if you're adopting a puppy.
and in this story, the pregnancy is likely to involve, like, triplets or quadruplets. so even more ridiculous to choose to get pregnant so thoughtlessly and for such a dumb reason.
not to mention that the heroes want to get her pregnant so badly and tries to influence her decision a lot, which made me uncomfortable. honestly made me think they like her baby-making potential more than her as a person. would they have even stayed with her if she decided she didn't want kids? if this question occurred to me, it should've occurred to her too.

i could've stuck it out for the last 15% but im pretty sure there's gonna be a big focus on trying for kids in this last part, and i just can't.
