Data
-Subject "I didn't come here to find my female. I just needed to think. All my life, I've been obsessed with revenge. And I had it. It was right in my hands. I could destroy him, but I walked away. I still don't know why I did that. When I was offered the job as head of security, it seemed like a good chance to step back and figure myself out. And then... I caught her scent. And I was lost."
-Subject "I'm a social worker. I've spent my life trying to help people. Trying to distance myself from my past. But it won't let me go. I applied for this position as HR of the Lunar Experiments, but I didn't think I'd get it. They rigged it though. They gave me the position not because I'm a damn good social worker, but because I used to be a damn good thief. They asked me to steal some alien tech. Anything I can get my hands on. I had no choice but to say yes. I just didn't expect him."

This report is a MF romance that is a standalone book that is part of an overarching story. Each report can be read on its own, but for maximum understanding is best read in order.

This was enjoyable. The hero is sort of like an alligator who bellows and slaps his tail to court his female. He brings her flowers. He brings her dinner all the time. He wants her to be his mate. She is not interested at first but agrees to spend time with him with the understanding she is giving him a chance.

The hero wears clothes with holes in them and does not polish his scales. He looks dusty, unkempt, and like a bum. Literally the heroine tells the hero he looks like a bum. So he cleans himself up for her. His focus has been on revenge for his family and father so he didn't focus on his personal appearance.

The scientists study them. They ask them questions.

The hero has two sets of genitals. So that is a big difference from the Domini aliens from her original series. It's not my favorite trope but I thought it was handled well. He talks to her about it, they discuss where things should go and when. Everything is done with consent.

I liked how the book was longer, over 500 pages and we got to know both characters.

I didn't like how the heroine's bad guy never got any consequences for threatening her. The hero tried to find him but couldn't. I'm guessing he shows up again as the bad guy in future books.

What a wonderful read! Ever since I start this series I wanted to dive into our reptilian looking aliens! This story was great! Can't wait for the next!

Almost a four star read, but fell flat in some areas.

FMC is a social worker who used to be a child thief when times were tough. She is hired by a shady individual to steal a piece of alien tech from a ship where a human experiment was going to happen. She was to act as the social worker on board. If she didn’t go, he would ruin her life.

Now, the story makes it seem like she was some crazy talented, next-level prodigy thief. This guy seeks the FMC out for this job specifically because of her history. However, she only started stealing when she was 12 and got arrested when she was 16. She stole mainly from junkies and drug dealers, and occasionally random other people. So she stole from drugies when she was a kid, did her 10 years in juvie and then got her life together.

Okay so on board, she ends up mating to the MMC who is a reptilian-like alien. The scientists on board want to study her reaction to mating because alien and human react differently. Her and the MMC agree and they get to know each other throughout the process.

The MMC is head of security who was out on a revenge quest but gave it up because it felt unfulfilling. He then senses his mate in the FMC and finds a new sense of fulfillment. He’s a little grumpy and kind of a mess, but he cleans up for her.

Eventually, when the communication between the FMC and the shady person is discovered, the MMC has to arrest her. When he goes to bring her back to earth, his revenge quest shows up and the FMC uses the power of ~therapy~ to save the day.

Things I liked:
-the spice was picante
-capable FMC
-slow burn on behalf of the FMC even though it’s fated mates

Things I didn’t like:
-I wish her background was a little more dramatic because I don’t think it really warranted shady guy targeting her
-the MMC’s mom being so involved. I know it was a cultural thing but it was too much for my taste.
-saving the day with therapy
-the whole “wow if she just told him about her dilemma, then the third act conflict wouldn’t have occurred” thing.

3.5 stars.

There was a lot I liked about this book...the development of the MCs relationship, the spice was hot, and the backstory of a consensual alien study was interesting. It was nice to have an alien romance where the FMC wasn't abducted and traumatized.

Something I didn't like...I personally am not into monster or alien romances where the MMC has a snout/muzzle. I certainly didn't expect it based on the cover artwork.

Great start to the series

I loved Rizor and Shoshanna’s alien-human, fated mates romance with a side of painful pasts, extortion, and scientific study. The balance between the science and the romance elements in the book was well done, each playing an integral and enjoyable part without over shadowing the other. This is a spin off of the Mates of the Domini series. You do not have to read that series to enjoy this book but the stories are worth reading nonetheless. Earth has become a protectorate planet of the alien coalition. To receive protectorate status, earth agreed to allow the non-invasive study of humans to see if it can be determined if and why they can mate and breed with alien species other than the domini. Rizor is a ratchi alien who has been hired as the security chief for the Lunar Base where the experiments will take place. He has little knowledge and no interest in the humans and only took the job to reevaluate his lifelong revenge plan. Shoshanna is the human social services representative for the 100 humans being studied for a year at the Lunar Base. She is also being blackmailed into stealing expressly forbidden alien tech. Rizor’s mating instincts are triggered the moment he smells Shoshanna when she arrives at the Lunar Base. This is the beginning of the journey to their HEA. I loved how their relationship developed organically as they spent time together and that Rizor was patient and accepting of the differences in mating/dating behaviors between humans and ratchi. In addition to dealing with the differences in their species, Rizor and Shoshanna both have some pretty extensive baggage based on childhood trauma that they have to deal with. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline woven into superb world building. There are sweet moments, steamy scenes, alien physiology and cultures, tragic back stories, political machinations, bad guys, science, revelations, plot twists, big feels, and laughs. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. 4.5 stars.

Sweet, satisfying, and laugh out loud funny

When I realized this author would be expanding the universe she created with her Domini series, I was super pumped. And she did not disappoint. Rizor and Shoshanna were the perfect couple to introduce us to their universe’s new reality. A grumpy male with a soft and sweet inside who wasn’t really on the up and up with the new Coalition relations with Earth, and a self-assured, regular-degular woman who happened to be at the right place at the right time. I adored them both and the supporting characters. I feel like I was giggling or outright laughing at least once per chapter, they were such a delight to read. Of course, spice is at a 10 but I feel like that goes without saying with this author. I can’t wait to see more of the universe and more of the romances and intrigues it holds. The “conflict” here was mostly contained to the two main characters, but I can see how the author is building up to a big bad for this series and I’m super excited for that. So glad we have another entry from Ms. Talia Rhea and I’m definitely preordering the next. She doesn’t miss!

While this book was looooong (nearly 600 pages!), I enjoyed it! I liked the banter and dynamic between Shoshana and Rizor from the beginning and it carried me through to the end. I was nervous when I realized the FMC was a Black woman, but those fears were put to rest as I read that Shoshana’s character was handled with care. The mark of a good author is knowing when you don’t know everything and seeking counsel to bridge that gap. In terms of length, this could’ve been 100-150 pages shorter and still told the whole story. The pacing was slow and a tad bit wonky because it felt like much more time had passed as the MCs’ relationship progressed, come to find out, it had only been like 2-3 months. The upside is that the bond growing between Shoshana and Rizor was much more believable. I was waiting with bated breath to see if the MCs major mating moment would be interrupted/ruined, but that was not the case. Frankly, it was refreshing to just let them have their moment. Overall, I recommend and will continue the series out of curiosity.

Amazing! I am so grateful I took a chance on the first domini book otherwise I would have never been able to read these books! I honestly don’t know why they aren’t more popular. Fantastic world building and great characters and plots! This was also an amazing redeeming story for the Ratchi I felt. I loved both characters and the story. The only thing I’m upset about, bc it sadly falls in line with how humans are, is the govt trying to get Shoshana to steal the alien tech knowing good and well she would take the fall for it. Why couldn’t they just accept the treaty and the opportunity and try harder???? But oh well! Still a great story and I can’t wait to read the rest!!

So I don’t love the Ratchi angle. It’s just too different from being human for me to see the appeal or attraction. Luckily, it’s only a book so I don’t actually have to see how that is supposed to work, but some of the descriptions definitely had me scratching my head. Overall though, I love the continuation of this universe and the story is just really good. So even though this particular alien species is just too weird for me, it’s easy enough to overlook to get to continue on this offshoot from the Domini series.

As I'm reading this I knew I couldn't wait until I finished this to leave a review. I love this FMC and her paranoid mind a lot, can't wait to see the hilarious misunderstandings that our FMC will come up with 😂

Edit: So that funny paranoia misunderstanding wasn't present for the entire book and lasted only until 10 chapters, BUT I loveeee how the mating study in this book is so good like it's actually not boring at all. I'm now excited to see the humans mating instict unfold for the next books

They had amazing banter. Like it was funny and real and not awkward. I ate it up. Other than that the 3rd act was resolved quickly and felt like it came out of nowhere.

I'm so happy the MMC oiled his scales because the idea of a dusty ashy lizard/dragon man is horrifying.
