A perfect encapsulation of motherhood from pre-conception to postpartum. Beautiful writing that emits true hope, love, and service that God instills in us.
“I'm here to serve you, little love. To help you remember God; to help you remember who you really are. And for now I'll love you like my son, like my little buddy, my dear most friend, my little companion. Not mine, but God's- Entrusted in my care for this little bit of time. I pray to love you like the precious soul that you are, inside this tiny, cute, and round little body. It is the perfection of motherhood actually, and such a grace-filled spiritual path: to see the soul within you, to see God within your heart, and to serve you, selflessly, like every mother does-Knowing that you're not mine, but eternally His. And I get to care for you for this short little time. You've awakened within my heart a love I've never known, and you've pulled out of me an ability to care in ways I never knew I was capable of.”
A dear friend got me this, and I'm so glad she did! It provided a framework I haven't considered before, or was simply ignorant to. Some of the content is a bit too far for me (ie. Vedic culture & Hindu philosophy), but the approaches I can take on and the importance of finding balance is something I do believe in! I liked the format (much better than What to Expect) as it was laid out logically, but I could have done without the poems. The preconception chapters were a bit wasted on me... as I (finally) read this well into the 3rd trimester... but I can keep them in mind for the future!
Full disclosure: I read this not while pregnant, but as a mother of a 7 year old. Much of it is more geared towards pregnancy and new mamas, but still interesting to read as someone who tries to bring ayurveda into her life.
