Geoff Johns originally hails from Detroit, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Media Arts and Film. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s in search of work within the film industry. Through perseverance, Geoff ended up as the assistant to Richard Donner, working on Conspiracy Theory and Lethal Weapon 4. During that time, he also began his comics career writing Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. and JSA (co-written with David S. Goyer) for DC Comics. He worked with Richard Donner for four years, leaving the company to pursue writing full-time.

His first comics assignments led to a critically acclaimed five-year run on the The Flash. Since then, he has quickly become one of the most popular and prolific comics writers today, working on such titles including a highly successful re-imagining of Green Lantern, Action Comics (co-written with Richard Donner), Teen Titans, Justice Society of America, Infinite Crisis and the experimental breakout hit series 52 for DC with Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid. Geoff received the Wizard Fan Award for Breakout Talent of 2002 and Writer of the Year for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 as well as the CBG Writer of the Year 2003 thru 2005, 2007 and CBG Best Comic Book Series for JSA 2001 thru 2005. Geoff also developed BLADE: THE SERIES with David S. Goyer, as well as penned the acclaimed “Legion” episode of SMALLVILLE. He also served as staff writer for the fourth season of ROBOT CHICKEN.

Geoff recently became a New York Times Bestselling author with the graphic novel Superman: Brainiac with art by Gary Frank.

I REALLY hope we get an omnibus of ALL of Geoff Johns writing on Superman. You can tell through the stories in this book that he loves the character just that much. Through every story from SECRET ORIGIN, LEGION OF SUPERHEROES, to BRAINIAC, you’ll understand how Superman is the most inspirational character in all of comics. I will say though for the LEGION story, it was the weakest for me out of the 3 in my opinion only because of how many characters were introduced at once, felt overwhelming to read at times.

One thing that is strong in his writing is the strong emotional beat that comes with it. Something will touch your heart in this book. Superman’s stories always do that to me though, he’s just pure inspiration. The only problem I have with these is that they read too freakin’ FAST. I wanted more to flesh out more of the world of supes more. The writing is so good, I don’t feel like I got my full closure. Everytime I read these stories I feel that same way haha.

And that dawg on GARY FRANK on artwork ?!?! SHEESSH ! Absolutely amazing. The RAW detail that he draws matches the awe-inspiring vision that Geoff Johns was trying to create. Geoff wanted every panel to feel epic and cinematic. And Gary’s Superman looks just like Christopher reeves. I usually don’t like when a comic book character looks like their movie counter part but it works here and I totally respect why Geoff wanted that. Love this book so much but I definitely want an omnibus of this material and more..

Dude what a beautiful collection of stories

In each story, Geoff Johns really digs into why Superman is one of the most appreciated and hopeful superheroes. There's good character building, good action sequences.

At first, it took me a couple pages to get used to Gary Frank's art but man, once you get used to it- is it beautiful (with Brad coloring)

This is a superstar creative team that brought some great stories to life in this collection

Incredible book. Three awesome Superman stories written by Geoff Johns. So may incredible moments. So much fun. It has a great emotional core, really compelling characters and mythos, and plenty of spine tingling moments.

AND Gary Franks art in this oversized format is just spectacular. So many times I turned the page and my breath was taken away by how incredible the art looked.

Every single page was drenched in love, in both the writing and the art. I already read and adored secret origins, but it reads so much better with the added context of this book.

Warning

there's 3 books collected here, and they arent in chronological order, and they aren't in the order of release either. that's dumb. I recommend going:
Secret Origin
Legion
Brainiac

You can continue into New Krypton after that, which has an omnibus coming in 2026.

However, this didn't stop me from loving every single page of this book and I'll definitely get New Krypton when it drops

Superman and LOSH- 3.5, It was alright, characterization was on point but the plot was weak with many flaws. Gary Frank saved it.

Brainiac- 4.5, now this was a lot better than the previous one. And had an emotional impact.

Secret Origin- 5, I didn't think I needed another Superman introduction story but apparently I did. This was excellent. It's just not a wonderful story but there is learning in it, about human nature, it's fear, hope, truth, and courage to support it.

Overall 13/15
4.3/5 Highly recommended.
