The Harpies #4

Thrill of Capture

Rate this book
Step into a world of corruption, power, and intrigue to follow one couple's fight to break a century of obligation forged by the darkest of sins.

KATE

I never imagined any of this would happen – the secrets uncovered and the games the Marquises played – or what it would cost us. Everything's been building to the last ritual, The Hunt, but what Jack's told me about this event is wrong. So wrong. It's not fun or exciting. It's a battle for survival.

The Marquises are monsters out of the darkest fairytales, masked, armed men capable of committing the worst of sins, and they have singled me out as the perfect prey. They will capture me in the foreboding forest... unless I can outrun them.

JACK
The Head Marquess has pushed me to my limits. Everything I thought I knew about my family was a lie. I can't trust anyone anymore, and the Head Marquess still has one last card to play: a trade. I have a choice to make, only I have nothing left to offer, except for the one life I'd do anything to save.

Thrill of Capture is the final book in The Harpies series. This is a dark secret society, contemporary forbidden romance with mafia elements and is meant for a mature audience only. Content warnings can be found on the author's website. The books must be read in order.

What a phenomenal finish to this series! I was able to read this book fast because the page is just melted away!

This book has some of my favorite scenes of the entire series. The chessboard scene was perfect. It was so exciting, I knew it was gonna be good, but I didn’t know it would be that good!

And the hunt! We finally get to the hunt and it doesn’t disappoint. All the shit goes down! When you think there’s not enough time for all things to be addressed the hunt solves it all bring all the characters together and letting things go absolutely wild!

The series has been one hell of a ride and I’m glad this ended on such a high note! I can’t wait to see what this offer comes up with next!

This book was everything I hoped and prayed it would be but also so much more! 🖤 The book may be mainly about Kate and Jack but Andrei is my favorite. Dimitri got exactly what he deserved and Juliet, she didn't get nearly enough. Lol however, I loved the revelation that came out in this book. I had kind of guessed that it was coming and I am so glad that I was right. I did not see Rachel having anything to do with it though, that came out of left field! This set of books with have to be one that also purchase physical copies of. These will forever be one of my favorites!

I'm just sitting here with myself thinking, what now?
Luckily, I have The Dark Marquis to tide me over because the book hangover is real.

What a journey.

I've thoroughly loved Jack and Kate's story; so gripping, so intense from start to finish.
The Harpyiai world is incredibly complex and nuanced. I beyond excited to see WHAT COMES NEXT.

ToC is possibly the darkest and most intense of the series; I've definitely questioned my morals as I cheered, and gaped, and thrown my phone out the window a couple of times. (FINE, more than a couple. Totally worth it)

Every move, every gesture, every spoken and unspoken word - the entire series is like a massive 3D puzzle where you think you've figured out one corner, only to get your fingers bitten by the next piece of the puzzle.

Anti-heroes turned villains, villains turned anti-heroes. What is really the meaning of "redeemable"?

Complex, multi-layered characters, from the mains to secondary, to small evils making cameos.
Trauma explored in all its multitude of facets. A main character who is thrown to the harpies until he doesn't know up from down, left from right, and bursts at the seams. I guess we all do learn the limit of self-control.

And through all this, there's one constant. Kate never shuts up. And when she does - well, even in her silence, she's loud. (Surely there must be some kind of world record for her. SURELY!)

I'm rambling, I know. That's because I simply don't feel I have adequate words to express how much I love this series, and (most) of the characters.

And I haven't even mentioned Hugh or Andrei.

I could spend hours dissecting every aspect of the series, the characters, what makes them tick, what makes them half, their very foundation.

What I know with certainty is I have a new favourite series and a new favourite author, and I'm a bit resentful for being made to love tropes that haven't even been close to my top 100.

I don't often stay I am obsessed about a book/series. But oh my whip, I am SO obsessed.

I'm so not ready to say goodbye; I'm not ready to leave the castle. Can we just... stay a little bit longer? Maybe eat a chocolate chip cookie? Maybe decorate the ceiling of the grand hall with one a-hole of a Marquis?

Thrill of Capture by Dina Hawthorn is an absolutely incredible conclusion to the Harpies series. What a ride this story has been — intense, emotional, and beautifully written from start to finish. Although this book wrapped up Jack and Kate’s journey in such a satisfying way, I selfishly hope it’s not truly the last time we see them. I’ve fallen so completely in love with these two and their story that letting go feels impossible.

In this final installment, Kate faces the darkest and most brutal challenges yet. Watching her endure and overcome such horrific abuse was gut-wrenching, but also a testament to her resilience and strength. At the same time, we see Jack and Kate struggling with trust in ways that feel raw and painfully real — their love is tested more than ever, and it makes every moment between them that much more powerful.

Dina does an amazing job tying up so many of the loose ends in this book, and some of the twists completely blindsided me (in the best way!). The pacing, emotion, and tension were all spot-on, keeping me hooked from beginning to end.

If I had one wish, it would be for just a bit more exploration of the trauma Kate and Jack endured during the series. Dina is so talented at capturing emotional depth — the way the characters express their past pain is beautiful — but I wanted to see more of how their most recent experiences shaped them moving forward. Even so, this story was so powerful and satisfying that it still earns every bit of its five stars.

Thrill of Capture is a breathtaking, dark, and deeply emotional ending to a series that will stay with me forever. Dina Hawthorn has created something truly special with Jack and Kate — a love story born from pain, trust, and the kind of devotion that leaves a mark on your heart.

This series is deliciously dark!!!

I’ve always said the darker the book the better and this series tested those lines. It was done in such a way it pushed past some black lines and just made you fall more in love with the FMC. Her trauma became her strength. Her MMC was the morally black you want by your side.

I can’t not recommend this series enough!! There needs to be a generations series made so we can continue this series with ropes and Jack!!!

This series was fantastic!! It takes you on one hell of a ride and it's so worth it. The drama, the twist and turns, the freaking spice was worth the lack of sleep. The characters are amazing and the villians earn your hate. This is a must read series. I promise it won't disappoint.
