Ever feel like you’re being watched? It’s an awareness so familiar I adapted to it long ago. Then I enrolled at Westbrook University to chase my dream and make up for someone else’s lost one. The prying eyes I’d known almost since birth… They closed. Even still, I never got too close. I made friends with everyone but confided in no one. My dates were carefully chosen, meaning I went out with guys I didn’t really like. And then I was attacked. I slept in Jamie’s bed while he stayed near me on the floor. He gave me his number, told me to call. Oh, I wanted to call. But I didn’t. Now those invisible, observant eyes that always seemed familiar have returned. But this time? They chill me to the bone. Someone is watching. Lurking. And it’s only a matter of time until whoever is out there does more than stare. The only place I feel truly safe is wrapped in the massive wingspan of an Elite swimmer. The very man I know I need to avoid. But as shit goes down, it becomes clear I’m going to have to surrender something… My heart or my life.
Please note that Wingspan contains mentions of domestic abuse and suicide. There is also present danger and stalking. These situations may be triggering for some readers.

Fun, sexy, suspenseful. This sequel had all the makings of a great NA read, but somehow it didn’t quite enrapture me the way book one did.
During Wet, I found myself addicted. I couldn’t put that book down to save my life. Sure, the romance was insta-everything, but the story moved at such a perfect trot that I had to keep flipping pages to see what was going to happen next with Rory, Ryan and their awesome friends.
To say I was excited for best bro Jamie’s story would be an understatement. This was probably one of my most highly anticipated reads of the year, and this bro didn’t disappoint. I could read about Jamie being Jamie all day long and not complain. He’s a golden retriever character mixed with a badass, alpha dude… and those swimmer’s shoulders!? Get out of town with the hotness of this bro.
Jamie’s instant fixation on theatre major Madison in the last book had me gearing up for one epic romance. And yes, I did actually love their dynamic here—which had more of a push-pull to it than Rory and Ryan’s quick and instant inferno. Jamie and Maddy’s flame took longer to ignite and I actually appreciated that part of their story.
What didn’t sit quite as right with me this time around was the stalker element. In book one, the suspense scenes were actually my favourite scenes of the book. I was totally engrossed, heart-rate up and pages flipping at the fastest rate I could read. Here, things felt a little more forced, and dare I say, silly.
Maddy had one hell of a backstory. This didn’t bother me per say, but the villains reveal and their whackadoodle “I need revenge” arc was just a little too over-dramatic for me. However, I will say one thing that did work in my favour, for those who have read both books, .
So, despite Jamie being the best bro that ever bro’d, his story was just a few issues short of having me love it. That’s okay though, because the “found family” friend group vibe is getting more awesome by the book—and before you know it, I’m sure this lot will build a Romeo-esque compound (not-a-cult) for them all to live on HEA.
At this point, Wes and Max’s M/M book couldn’t come at me any quicker. And, please, for the love of God, come quick!
Wow. I loved Wet the first book in this series. It’s was sweet and quirky with no OW drama or sex. If you read Wet then you already know Jamie has feelings for Madison but Madison has issues that at keep her from trusting a relationship.
So why do I DNF? Well in the first chapter Jamie is upset that Madison doesn’t seem to return his feelings. He’s not swimming well and In order to get over her he Fucks a OW!😡 He has strong feelings for Madison and can’t keep his dick in his pants long enough to build trust and be patient!? Figure out why she’s closed off? Try harder? No🤮 his thoughts are… let me fuck someone else.
And the whole time he’s mad it isn’t Madison… yet he doesn’t stop it😡🖕🏻. He’s a weak H at best and I’m out I so don’t want a pussy H who is so self absorbed he can’t think with his head or heart instead of his dick. What happens when real life happens to them? Yeah I’ll tell you, he will be at a bar picking up a OW to fuck and cheating cause he’s stressed. Good luck with that Madison.
I’m so over this. I’m don’t with this unsafe author who relay of this kind of crap and weak characters to build drama. Her #hashtag series is also filled with this kind of crap and I’m just done.
I loved this so much. It had the build-up that was missing in the last book. The H is so freaking dreamy. I love how Cambria includes all the little swoony details. The H is so aggressively possessive/protective. 😍😍😍
💕I loved the praise kink and domination without any hint of a “Dom”.
💕I loved all the damsel in distress moments.
💕I loved how totally devoted the H was once he made up is mind to go after the h… which happens in the first chapter.
💕 Dude was all in and he wanted everyone to know about it.
💕I love how he handled his past head-on so everyone knew he was off the market
💕I loved how he called her “baby”.
💕I loved how he carried her around and took care of her in all the little and big ways.
💕I loved their size difference and how much they both got off on it.
💕I loved how much he liked seeing her in his clothes.
💕I loved all the side characters and the funny bromance.
Bottom Line? Bro. 🤡 It was just a great swoony read, perfectly paced. I was one big goose bump ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing - no OW drama - no virgins - no dubcon or noncon - no condoms - they discuss safety - depictions of death and murder
What a fabulous book! This is the second in a series, and while you don’t have to have read the first, it really helps, because you got to know the characters, particularly Jamie, in that one. I love romantic suspense books and I love insta-love protective heroes, and this book delivers so perfectly on both fronts. The heroine is reluctant to love because of her past. Jamie is one of the “elite” swimmers at the school, and he’s popular, charming, and loyal. He basically fell in love at first sight in the previous book in the series, when Madison and the heroine from the previous book were in danger, and he volunteered to help protect them. No matter how much Madison tries to keep Jamie at an arm’s length, it’s impossible, and she quickly falls for him. One thing I love about this series is that while the heroes are alpha males, they’re totally smitten with their heroines, and even though they’re tough and “masculine”, they’re not egotistical and they’re genuinely good people. Jamie doesn’t take himself too seriously. The author really balances the line between cocky and confident quite nicely. This is one of those types of books where the obstacles are external to the relationship. I don’t want to spoil it here, but there’s a fabulous mystery subplot, which ends in a very satisfying conclusion. Trigger Warnings:
Ok. First book I had a great time. I didn’t take it too seriously and just ignored the faults. It was fun and just the kind of book to breeze through and enjoy. This was a lot of the same, but I struggled just a bit while “breezing” through.
Madison’s story and back story just didn’t jive, and I couldn’t get around it. I won’t spoil anything but just where she chose to go to college MADE NO SENSE in the grand scheme of the story. She was very dramatic and how we meet her in the first book does not match how she is in this book. There was just so much about her that didn’t work, or I didn’t like, or just plain didn't make sense. I don’t know. There was just something off about the whole thing.
I feel like Jamie fell due to proximity. Due to circumstance. Due to his best bro falling in love. I just never really felt anything more than that. I mean, he wasn't even chasing her. He was waiting. Then once he made a move, Madison was cold for SO LONG. Oh, and she never shared much of herself, actually any of it, how did they fall in love? Ugh.
This read a lot like Scream 2 guys. The theatre setting and a bunch of other spoilery type things. Not exact, but it is all I could think of. They even used the mask and referenced it as the Scream mask.
At least there were parents in this one although in trauma they were doing hair. I am guessing maybe that’s kind of how we should read these? Just no parents, all the adult figures almost caricatures. This might help me for future reads.
Overall it just wasn’t a win for me. I enjoyed it mostly, but it just didn’t work like the first one, and maybe that was a mood.
I try to not pick at writing, but I just can’t let this go! Am I the only one?
Deadpanned.
I love, love, love a good deadpan statement. I love the look. The joke. Just all of it. The author seems to enjoy a good deadpan statement too, but not the joking kind, more the ‘deliberately impassive or expressionless’ definition of deadpan.
And she likes it a lot. I won’t search and count but there were easily a million.
I think every statement Jamie made was said “deadpanned”. Probably Ryan too. It was so excessive, and it got to the point it was pulling me out of the story because I just kept thinking deadpanned again!
I can’t wait for Wes’s story. “Please let it be good.” she deadpanned. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
What a swoony visit back to the land of college suspense, speedos,, and lots of BROS, bro. Wingspan gives us the anticipated story of Jamie and Madison- characters we met in the first book of the series, Wet. If you liked Wet this will be right up your alley- more instalove romance married to a dangerous suspense full of damsel in distress moments and tons of twists. Oh, and lots of bro-mancing amongst an elite crew of college swimmers.
This series is a great reprieve from the drolls of daily living- it’s action pact, ultra swoony, and between the danger, also lots of fun. Cambria has an uncanny ability to merge the slightly ridiculous (ie the ironic…or non-ironic?- overuse of the bro endearment) and dramatized action with meaty character arcs and hyper emotional moments. It's somehow soapey and meaningful all at once. Madison is a heroine that has gone through some really challenging things in the past and present, making her a heroine you both feel for and want to catch a win. And that win comes in the arms of dreamy, protective, swoonfest Jamie- who basically worships her and bends over backwards to protect her, make her feel safe, and in general prove his affection. Yeh, he’s a big ole cinnamon roll, and it’s hard not to just melt at his charm. He loves how we all want to be loved. DREAMBOAT BOYFRIEND.
Like Wet, this book relies on a bit of instalove- though the dynamic is a bit different in that Madison doesn’t make Jamie’s affections easy. She’s got mountains of baggage, so she certainly makes Jamie work for the trust. And despite her own trauma, Madison is quite sassy and stubborn- she doesn’t want to lean into the comfort Jamie provides, so the burn is a bit slower. Paired with their sweet romance we have the type of action and twists we got in wet- this college is just jam packed with nefarious danger. But it makes for some great moments for Jamie to be all swoontastic. And, we also get to check-in with our bigger crew…and yes, we get lots of BROmantic moments.
Enjoying this series and this little family- I hope we get more Westbrook Elite fun!
I could say this a thousand times and it will never be enough! Cambria is fking amazing at these sports romances!
As much as I loves Wet, Wingspan just blew my damn mind!
Madison is an incredibly strong and brave woman, the things she had to go through at such a young age is traumatising, no kid should have to deal with what she had to. The amount of hugs I wanted to give her was crazy because in true Cambria style this character was put through the ringer. She was given a whole bunch of obstacles to go through and honestly, I have no idea how that woman got up in the morning.
Jamie, oh my gosh. I fell in love with his kind and loving self in Wet but his book just proved how incredibly caring this guy is. He’s tough on the outside but soft as a teddy bear on the inside when it comes to the people he loves and watching Madison become one of them was beautiful.
Their relationship is never easy, he’s made to work hard for it, it isn’t just given to him and that’s what I loved about it. She’s strong willed and feisty, it’s humours and their banter makes this book so much more amazing!
Jamie and Madison’s story was insane and extremely intense. The amount of drama and twists packed into this book was insane and so damn good! I, hand on heart did NOT see those twists coming.
Wingspan is collage sports romance filled with fun times and heartache. With twists and turns that’ll have you pulling at your hair and shouting at your kindle. It’s a book about forgiveness and friendships and family you choose. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and one of Cambria’s best books in my opinion.
this was such a carbon copy of the previous book relationship wise, it made my blood boil🤬😬
Look, I get it: books in a series are always similar to each other. But there are some very oddly specific things that if repeated, loose its charm and become just cheap reenactments. Case and point:
- both heroines being so TiNy that their heroes call them 'Shrimps' 🤡💀 - both heroes always saying "Give me some sugar" instead of simply "Kiss me"👀🆘 - both heroes always wanting to carry their girls piggyback everywhere! 🤣 - the CONSTANT, NON-STOP USE OF "BRO"🤦♀️💩💩💩 (I wanted to kiss Max when he said "I'm not your bRo!"💪👑)
This made me frustrated with the book very quickly, because what's the point of reading the series if you can just change the names and it'll be book 1 instead of book 2? But the main problem for me was the unlikability of the heroine and the hero...
From the start I strongly disliked the heroine. She was neurotic, hot and cold, dislikable, spewing PC bullshit at random, had zero charisma or any other qualities that could make me invested in her story and overlook her flaws. Give me a break! She was supposed to be an actress, and yet hated her character, the story and everything about it, because it was "toxic" and had a lot of drama and violence. She was speaking about "Romeo and Juliet" btw 🤣 Because of course, all the great works have to be drama-free and only have healthy and unproblematic characters 🤡🤡🤡
The hero was likable at first, but it quickly went down the drain🤦♀️ I get being obsessed and overprotective, but did he have to be an asshole about it too? Shouting at paramedics and preventing them to do their work on his "girl" is not hot, but pathetic. And dangerous 🚩 Yes, police is not always effective, but expecting them to kiss the shit his girl left on the street is too much. As is threatening her theater director with violence just because he didn't believe her at once 🤬
On its own, I'd give this book 2 stars. But since it's a part of a series and the previous book already had these quirks, so this time around it's only an imitation, I'll give it...a 1. 🤷🏼♀️😅
I adored Jaimie in Wet, so I was really excited for his story! And I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first. I liked the way their relationship came to be. Jaimie had to work for it and I liked that it didn’t happen so damn fast.
Madison had my heart aching. I hated that she denied herself what she wanted because she was scared. I knew that her past must have not been an easy one but boy I never imagined it could have been that. It was crazy but also made an amazing plot and really tied the first book and this one so well. I really enjoyed how this one was more suspenseful and thriller-y.
Jaimie was just adorable! I loved how he knew what he wanted and worked for it. He melted Madison one hug at a time. I really adored how their relationship developed and how Jaimie always seemed to be close by or ready to drop everything when Madison needed him. He was just what she needed and deserved.
Wingspan was a great story of love, suspense, and friendship. Cambria really upped her game with this one, I’m really excited for what’s next. I really hope it’s Wes and Max because those two!!!
➳ARC kindly provided by the author, in exchange for an honest review.
Wingspan is a well written, kinda instalove that has characters you're going to fall in love quickly with too. I was really excited for his story given Jamie's laid back, go with the flow, "bro" type personality and Madison's intense and frequently grumpy persona. Jamie is just the biggest cinnamon roll for her, despite the huge fight she puts up against his affections which he eventually wears down. Super cute and fun read with a bit of a thriller/suspense vibe! Excellent follow on read to WET ♥️.
Yeah, in love, size doesn't matter. In love, even the widest of wingspans could be tamed by the smallest of hands.
4.5 stars!
Trigger warning: talk of suicide/murder, physical/emotional abuse
I fell in love with Jamie in book 1 of the Westbrook Elite series and was so excited to read his and Maddie's story in book 2, and he did not disappoint! Jamie is such a free spirit in the best way; he is loyal and trustworthy to those he loves and is always able to lighten the mood of those around him. Despite all of the trauma that she has seen in her life, Maddie quickly finds out that Jamie's charm and dependability are impossible to resist, and they continue to grow closer despite Maddie's attempts to save Jamie from her complicated past. Once again the bromance between Ryan, Jamie, and Wes was my favorite part of the story! Their easy friendship is so contagious and adorable to read, and I just love the dynamic between them. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series, and I am so stoked for Wes and grumpy Max's book next!
Eeeeppp Jamie was the best 🥰 the way he never gave up on Madison was *happy sigh* . It's taking all my self control not to reread the next two books in the series becuase I don't want to let go of this cast of characters.
Favorite Quotes: But then his pinky appeared in front of us. “Pinky swear.” I laughed under my breath. “What?” “Promises might be extreme lies, but pinky swears are legally binding.” “No, they aren’t,” I argued. “Yes, baby. They are.”
“Because even when you aren’t mine, you’re mine. I have no idea how it happened, but you own me, Madison Hartley, and nothing is going to change it.
“Will you stay?” Her voice was hopeful. I pressed my forehead against hers. “Try and get rid of me.”
“There will never be a day—a moment—when I don’t want you. I would wait a thousand years for you because every single second is worth the wait.”
“That you’re mine to keep.” Her stare bounced between my eyes, and then she nodded. “Be sure, Madison,” I implored, giving her a little shake. “Because there are no takebacks. I won’t give you up. And I don’t share.” “Will you be mine too?” My heart clenched, and laughter vibrated my throat. “Oh, baby, I keep telling you. I’ve been yours since the day we met.”
He smiled, pecking a kiss against my lips. “I dare you to love me as long as I love you.” I giggled. He was beyond ridiculous. “What do I get if I win?” “My entire lifetime.”
This was so sweet that I almost had to go to the dentist. I did enjoy some parts, especially the dynamics between H and h. It would've gotten a higher rating but for all the "bros".
Cambria Hebert continues to slay in her latest heart-thrashing saga that strokes the soul. Wingspan blew me away with vivid writing that seamlessly flows across the pages, bringing to life a book so broken, so bold and so beautiful that it shines and shatters through the pages. I felt this romance’s paralyzing intensity everywhere.
The second sensation in the Westbrook Elite series spotlights the university swim heroes and the heroines who bring them to their knees. Wingspan is a deep dive into an emotional pool of heart and hope that touches long after the last page. Hebert paints a powerful portrait of a broken heroine brought back to life by a big-hearted hero who uses his wings, helping her fly.
Hebert seamlessly inserted me into the heroine’s mind where I felt her nerves, felt the intensity of the hero’s effect on Madison … my heart beating fast like hers. And Jamie? This ultimate hero, my bro, was talking to me too. I fell hard for Jamie and Madison who are perfection together in a story so heady, so harrowing, so hopeful, and so heartfelt.
Wingspan’s prose is passionately poetic where the words dance off the pages, in harmony like the perfect butterfly stroke. Deep. Dynamic. Devastatingly beautiful. I was rendered powerless by this romance—its force awakened everything inside of me. Prepare to be wowed by Wingspan, a stunning sports romance that makes a splash, hitting the heart and soul long after the last word.
Wingspan is the second book in the "Westbrook Elite" Series and we follow two characters we met in the book before. The first time Jamie met Madison, it was under less than stellar conditions. But Jamie knew that Madison was meant to be his. Now he just needs to convince her. Madison keeps everyone at arms length. But when fear starts to creep in, the feeling of being watched intensifies and past trauma. She isn't so sure if she can keep resisting Jamie. Being wrapped up in his arms, starts to feel like her only safe space.
I knew I was going to enjoy this one. Jamie had already charmed me from the moment he showed up, with his stupid Bro. Madison was different from what I expected but in a good way, she surprised me with her background and personality. The romance was really cute and sweet. I enjoyed the pacing of it, the smutty scenes were good, but mostly they had such sweet moments. The suspense was really interesting and the ending had a few twists that I didn't see coming. Overall, I had a great time reading this. Again, I wish we had a bit more of the sports aspect in this series, but I think the swoon worthy guys make up for it.
It was fun to see the other characters and I'm so stoked about Max and Wes' story. They look so interesting and I want to know the story behind their relationship. This is just a fun, easy read with fall cozy vibes, cute relationships, hot swimmers, great friendship group and some suspense.
Every time I read a book from Cambria Hebert I’m always shocked at how fast it goes! No matter how long the book is, I’m always left wishing it was longer. I think it’s because I get so wrapped up in every single aspect of the story - the romance, the suspense, and the drama. Wingspan had all of that in spades and I loved every page of it. The romance was downright swoon worthy and I enjoyed seeing our charming and playful Jamie get so serious about proving to Maddison that he was all in with her no matter what. Some of the stuff he did had me squealing. Along with the romance, we upped the suspense a bit from the previous installment and there was some twists that I never saw coming. I’m usually able to guess how these types of stories are going to end so that was a pleasant surprise. And as always I adored all of the side characters. I have a feeling I know who’s getting his book next and I’m already anticipating it becoming my favorite.
*I received and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
Wingspan by Cambria Hebert is a romantic suspense sports romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Cecily Foster and Devon Ryder. This is the second book in the Westbrook Elite series.
This is the second book of Cambria's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Jamie and Madison. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Wish to be released on audio so I can get Wes and Max's story.
Devon and Cecily did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like romantic suspense, college romances, or sports romances.
After reading Ryan’s book, Wet, I knew I wanted Jamie and Madison’s book!!!! Jamie is over the top for his girl. Protective, honest, confident and absolutely in love. While she kept fighting her feelings and didn’t think she deserve all the good things life could give her, he shows her how much she’s worth everything. ‘Bro’ was a bit too much at times, but it was part of his personality. This story had friendship, suspense, drama, sexiness and just a good ole fun Cambria sports romance story. I’m so ready for the next one!!!!!!
Jamie first meets Maddie in Wet, Ryan and Rory's book. I don't want to give too much away but I think to understand Jamie and Maddie you need to read Wet first. Their connection starts there and it is vital to their story. But let me tell you, Jamie and Maddie are so freaking good. Jamie is the ultimate. I love him so freaking hard. He is the perfect balance of fun, hot, protective and swoony. Maddie is stubborn and strong and I love her so much. These two are so perfect together. I adored every second of their story. I love how it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I love how they both captured my heart and never gave it back to me. This Westbrook world and their found family is perfection. I can't get enough of it.
5 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ WTF i LOOOOVED this sm. they were the cutest couple i’ve ever read i stg. they were both absolutely adorable and perfect and i’m obsessed. he was the epitome of a perfect book boyfriend🧸☺️there was also like a slasher movie subplot and the drama HOOKED me. i couldn’t stop reading and i’m blaming this if i fail my exam tomorrow😗this is going straight to my favourites shelf omg it was genuinely perfect.🥰🥰
‘“It’s okay, Maddie baby.” He soothed, the pad of his thumb caressing my chin. “If you aren’t ready for me, I’ll wait. I’ll wait as long as you need.”’
‘He caught my face in his palms, practically swallowing me whole. “Because even when you aren’t mine, you’re mine. I have no idea how it happened, but you own me, Madison Hartley, and nothing is going to change it. And if I can’t smother you in my wingspan”—he paused to flash me a smile that literally made my knees weak—“then at least let me protect you with my name.”’
‘Her giggle muffled against my shirt. My heart tumbled over, and I smiled over her shoulder. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Yeah, in love, size doesn’t matter. In love, even the widest of wingspans could be tamed by the smallest of hands.’
‘I understood wholeheartedly in that first second of our very first kiss that nothing would ever satisfy me again unless it was her. Her and only her.’
‘My kisses are like chips. You can’t have just one. You don’t agree? Fine. Your kisses are like chips. I can’t have just one. Mads. Maddie baby.’
‘“Yes, baby, you can touch me whenever you want.”’
‘“You never call me bro.” Madison spoke in my ear. “Nope, and I never will. Just like I’ll never call any of them baby.”’
‘“What are you—” Her words fell away the second my lips pressed over her heart. “I swear to God, Maddie,” I vowed, letting my lips brush against the fabric of the T-shirt, loving the erratic beating of her heart. “I am gonna love you so good. I won’t hurt you. I’d rather die.”’
‘“There will never be a day—a moment—when I don’t want you. I would wait a thousand years for you because every single second is worth the wait.”’
‘“I only care if I’m handsome to you.” Throat constricting, I whispered, “You’re more than that to me.”’
‘“I wanted to mark you,” he mumbled.’
‘He smiled, pecking a kiss against my lips. “I dare you to love me as long as I love you.” I giggled. He was beyond ridiculous. “What do I get if I win?” “My entire lifetime.”‘
‘“Jamie Michael Owens!” I winced and spun. “Yes, baby?”’ clairegibsie vibes💗😁
‘“One of my favorite things about swimming is when I’m underwater and everything is muffled and silent. The rest of the world feels so far away. That’s what it’s like with you, Maddie baby. Everything else is muffled, but you are entirely clear.”’
I loved Jamie! Every time I think Ms. Hebert can't write another perfect male lead, she surprises me. There wasn't a lot to not like about him, other than his use of 'bro.' Maybe it's because I'm 40. Maybe it's because my husband watches WWE and one of the wrestlers has the whole arena shouting 'bro, bro, bro' in his intro (the guy plays a bit of an airhead). So it's hard for me to take Jamie seriously when all I can picture is the pothead that's a little ditzy. Regardless, Jamie loved fiercely, was protective, and incredibly loyal to those he called friends. He extended this same passion to his relationship with Maddy.
Maddy was another character we met in Book 1 when she and Rory were attacked. She's a theater major and even though she's a great actress, she keeps to herself and avoids the spotlight. We learn that she has good reason for that. I liked that she tried to be strong and didn't fawn over Jamie like most women would. She kept him at arm's length until she really had no choice but to reach out and rely on someone else to help her be strong when bad things started happening to her.
The suspense was still present in this book, although not the #1 priority of Book 1's plot it seems. Don't get me wrong, there's some brutal stuff that happens and I was honestly shocked the author went there so soon. She really took it up a notch with that scene. But unfortunately, I found the whodunit to be predictable. By halfway through, I had at least one part of the equation figured out. And before the big reveal/plot twist, I had the rest figured out thanks to a couple tell-tell signs. The author spared no punches though with the reveal and ending.
I really like all of the Westbrook crew. Sure, they are all a bit entitled and use their Elite status to their advantage. But they're still good guys at heart. Can't wait for Wes/Max next! Been waiting on their book since they were introduced in Book 1.
I think i have been waiting for this book ever since i met Jamie in wet and i have no words.
I knew this was going to be a great book but i think i underestimated Jamie because that man had me swooning all over the place. Pretty sure I swooned at times that it wasn't needed but i was ridiculously hooked to this story.
The little hints that you are given in 'Wet' doesn't compare to the explosive/loving relationship these two end up having.
I'm a major fan of 'he falls first' and seeing Jamie pursue Maddie was everything. He knew right when he met her and he was patient (maybe not so patient) and waited for her to be ready for him and his wingspan.
I think I fell for his character with the first " Maddie Baby" and i strapped in for a hell of a ride.
Due to secrets from her past, Maddie has always felt alone. Everything that has been happening lately has kept her on edge and she doesn't trust easy. She knows that Jaime has the power to emotionally destroy her. She fights him but she doesn't expect him to fight harder for her.
This book has everything that I always look for, humour, spice, and an intriguing story line. I also love the friendship aspect between the characters.
The little bits that we got from Ryan and Rory were so special and i'm SO pumped for Wes/Max.
Wellll just when you think Hebert has wrote the most epic of book boyfriends in struts Jamie announces Bro I'm here and not to be ignored sweeping others off the playing field
I did not expect to fall in love so deeply with this particular book boyfriend... Correction book husband. He exhibits every single delightful alpha goodness trait including protectiveness, possessiveness and persistence...never mind the athleticism, hotness and charm to name a few. Plus even though usually the funny guy grates on me usually. Jamie's one liners had me howling and coming back for more. He is genuinely such a beautiful man inside and out that just makes one drool
Mads brings independence, feist and stubbornness together with a backstory that is heartbreaking and dramatic to the world of the Elite.
Add in an epic storyline with enough emotional load to massively imerse the reader into the pages that one forgets this isn't real.
As well as a brilliant Mental health representation, fabulous Easter eggs and superbly thought outplot twists which keep you on your toes. Yeah this story keeps topping the charts and will have me reaching for Wish (book 3 Elite) yesterday. Although I will say this book could also be read as a standalone.
Now I just need to pick myself up from the puddle on the floor, allow my heart to recover and then ensure I have this book in all formats asap...
"You want me...The air vibrates with it. I can practically taste it."
Jamie Owens met Madison Hartley on a traumatic night, but he knew she owned him from that moment. Madison tried really hard to keep him at a distance and deny her attraction to him, but he completely disarmed her and broke down her walls with his sweetness, his charm and his protectiveness. However, secrets from Madison's past are about to blow her life apart and put her in danger.
"Even when you aren't mine, you're mine. I have no idea how that happened, but you own me."
Seriously, my 'bro', Jamie, was ridiculous and playful (....and did I already mention ridiculous? LOL), but then he'd hit us with some seriously sweet and swoony words, and it was pretty darn hard not to fall in love with him! It was no wonder that Madison almost didn't have a choice but to fall hard when faced with all the love and tenderness that radiated from him. My heart hurt for her struggles, for her past, and for her lonely life. I loved how Jamie treated her - like she was his entire world and he was willing to do anything to keep her safe. I thoroughly enjoyed this story that had just about a bit of everything. I admit that all the 'bro' stuff kinda got too much for me sometimes, but I loved the close friendships, the suspense, the sexiness, and the beautiful love. I also really enjoyed the inklings of the stories to come about the other characters. Looking forward to the next book.
Okay, so I thought Ryan was perfect, but Jamie… WOW. I really liked him in “Wet”, but as Ms. Hebert said in her author’s note, Jamie was originally just meant to be comic relief. A whole different side of him came out once Madison came onto the scene. He still was that charming, goofy and fun loving guy, but we also got to see the serious, thoughtful, considerate, and fiercely protective side of him too. I love his relationship with Ryan and how that never falters between either of their relationships with Rory or Madison, because as they say, pals before gals, right? His relationship with Madison reminds me of something that Rory said early on in the book, something about how you really see a person for who they are under stressful circumstances. From the minute she was in trouble, Jamie was there. He was always in Madison’s corner whether she wanted him to be or not. True love at its purest. Well done Ms. Hebert!
