This second book of the series tells Tor’s story. The son of Erik Haraldson, Tor is the lone survivor of a shipwreck that leaves him stranded on a beach where a Lenni Lenape family finds him. The boy grows into a man in the Lenape lands, but word of his arrival reaches the Mississippi, and he is bound for Cahokia.
The sudden storm that causes Tor's family loss has begun one of the harshest trials of his spirit. His determination to survive is remarkable. The detailed description of this is just the beginning of harsh reality that would test anyone. His survival showed the strength of spirit that will serve him in his precarious future.
Mr. Briggs has so much information about the Native American structures, clothing, and daily life. You feel a part of the story, seeing the description of details. The reader can almost touch the cloth described at the native wedding ceremony. The beautiful images of celebrations, marriages, and cultural practices bring these aspects to light.
My hope is to read about Cass soon. Mr. Briggs says she's the best character in the series. What a sneak peak in this story, White Mussle and Matron Koracco have a sister from another mother in her.
Tors Saga Book Two: The Yellow Hair Series Again Ron Briggs' ability to grab the reader and firmly ground them in the story is almost uncanny. After all the harrowing events at the end of the previous edition, I find the authors ability to build characters that are as REAL as ourselves refreshing. Tor is able to show the reader what it means to devote oneself to family, that all live a happier life. We can all learn from him. Family is not just by blood, but chosen by the Heart. Humans must connect! Again BRAVO!
The author continues to impress with his knowledge of life among the native Americans so many "sun cycles" ago. Yellow Hairs ability to adapt and learn the customs and traditions of his adopted people is amazing. If you're Interested in gaining knowledge of those times so long before Europeans arrived this is a great series to read. Can't wait for the next adventure.
Young Tor is the only survivor from a shipwreck during a voyage from Norway to Greenland. He floats for days on a plank from the ship he was on. Enduring days of the sun, thirst, starvation, and severe storms. He is finally washed ashore in what will become the new world. He is adopted into a clad and becomes a man with much respect. His adventures are most interesting and sometimes dangerous. This was an interesting look into what the life of the early indians could have been. A good read.
