When two big, strong men who are both accustomed to being in charge fall in love, you have to wonder… Who’s the Daddy? One thing Ty Ingalls knows is when you’re six-foot-three and two hundred and twenty-five pounds, people make assumptions about you. And Ty doesn’t like to disappoint people. He has been the go-to guy for everyone’s problems for as long as he can remember. His family, his friends, and even his former partners all look to him to be Large and in Charge whether that is what he wants or not. No one has ever wanted to take care of him. Until Bear. Bear needs to be in control. That need, coupled with his care-taking tendencies, led him to the Daddy lifestyle. A lifestyle he isn’t about to give up anytime soon. When he first meets Ty, he makes the same assumptions everyone else does, and he thinks he will have to settle for friendship, even if he finds the man distractingly attractive. But the more time they spend together, the more he sees that being the person everyone else relies on is weighing the big man down. And then all Bear wants to do is help carry some of that load. Ty is caught up in what the world expects from him and can’t see himself as a boy... but Bear can. Will he be able to help Ty realize that the way everyone else sees him isn’t as important as the way he sees himself?

Book safety, tropes and tags down below.

So, I enjoyed this book a fair amount, but I do wish a couple of things were played into a bit more. First off: the tension between Ty and Bear was fantastic early on, and I wish it was a slower burn so we’d get more of the delicious tension. It didn’t have to be angsty, but playing into Ty’s insecurities a bit more would have lived up more to the blurb. He struggles with everyone expecting him to be and act a certain way because of the way he looks, and after a point in the book, that felt a little forgotten. What I loved about the book is the unconventional Daddy/boy dynamic, so again, I just wish there was more of it.

All of this is my personal preferences though, there’s nothing wrong with the book.

The dialogue between Ty and Bear felt a little too perfect sometimes, a little unnatural maybe, but it got better near the end.

Overall enjoyable, with sweetheart daddies and two bears finding love where they didn’t think to look for it.

Another trip to this quaint, small Texas town. Bear first met Ty when he was asked to sub on the softball team. After spending a bit of time with him Bear knew that Ty was going to be his as he immediately felt the need to care for him. Not knowing how much Ty knew about Daddy/boy relationships he didn't act on it...decided to take it slow because he was finally ready to find his boy, and he wanted Ty to be HIS boy.

Ty was a big guy, that created beautiful pieces of marble art. He thought that Bear would see him only as a friend, but after spending some time together they finally kissed, and that was IT for both of them. Ty was hoping that that kiss, that moment, would be the start of something.

Bear was cautious and decided that Ty would never be the boy he was looking for since Ty didn't seem like a boy to him...and he didn't want to lead him on. If he could only have Ty as a friend... so, be it. Bear couldn't get that kiss out of his mind. After talking to a friend, he thought that maybe he and Ty could have a brief relationship. One time and Bear began to think Ty maybe was unaware that he was a boy, and not only that...maybe he was actually THE boy for him. When Ty got hurt playing softball it made it definite for Bear. No more over thinking...Bear had made up his mind and took Ty home with him to care for him. That was the beginning of their life together.

This was all new for Ty...he had never had anyone take care of him before or even want to. He was always the one taking care of others... this was a much needed and welcome change, and he thinks maybe he'll stay.

This is the second book in this three-part series. Both past and future characters drift in and out, so while the books can all easily be read as standalones...reading in order will give you a much greater feeling of meting old friends, and... well, just coming HOME.

Light and sweet

Bear and Ty were perfect for each other.
Both needing one another but not wanting to push the boundaries of friendship.
Ty is the sweetest guy, always going out of his way to do for others but at the expense of his time which leads to personal complications he doesn't share with others.
Bear is a caretaker by nature, born to be a Daddy.
Even in the beginning of their fledgling friendship he saw how Ty's sweet nature was really hurting him.
Both felt that instant attraction to each other but because of misconceptions on both their parts they just kind of swept it under the rug.
Ty is absolutely certain he's no one's definition of a boy so what chance does he have with Bear who's so obviously a Daddy.
Bear is still reeling from his last boy who basically told him he was overbearing and controlling.
These two had explosive chemistry.
I loved seeing Ty finally have someone to care for him exclusively and for him to finally be able to have someone just be in charge and take the weight of the world off his shoulders.
Bear was finally able to find the perfect partner for him, not just someone play acting.
I can't wait to see Gibson find his partner, I have a suspicion and I hope I'm right.

Boring and it would be more enjoyable with less pages and Ty isn't my usual type of boy.

I hope Gibson love interest would be Tristan even though Bear said they're not each other's type. What Gibson like is his boy to be sweet but too bad the author doesn't write much details about Tristan's life.

Good to see Spencer again. Spencer is an adoptive son of Matt and Landon. Now he's all grown up and I hope he will get his own happy ending.

Caretakers

Ty takes care of everyone so doesn't think he can possibly be a boy. Bear is drawn to Ty. One accident proves they are the perfect pair.

Bear is the second book in the Daddies of River Gorge serie by Jacki James. This book is about Bear and Ty. Bear hasn’t had a boy since his last relationship ended. Ty doesn’t think of himself as a Boy and honestly with his size people sooner rely on him and think he's the Daddy......

I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.

Loved this one. The whole "doesn't fit societal expectations" thing really hit me in my feels. Was great to read scenes with the whole gang together, too.

this and all future re-reads: this one and Nash are tied as my faves of the series. I Love Ty and Bear so very much.

It's so good to be back in River Gorge, and with a low angst, daddy/boy romance. I love the community of characters that has built up in the River Gorge/The Daddies of River Gorge series. They are all so friendly and welcoming to newcomers, whether they are new to the town or just the friend group, and offering up support and friendship to those who need it.
Bear and Ty have both been in River Gorge for years, Ty all his life, but they only really get to know each other when working on the revitalisation project for the town. There is instant attraction but because both have always taken the dominant role, they assume that they are not a great match. Ty is a big guy, over six feet and has always been the caretaker of his family, even now with his siblings grown up. It's also carried across to his friends and the rest of the town. Bear sees this and worries about Ty taking on too much, especially with working on his sculpture for the town. His daddy tendencies take over without trying and it's really sweet to read as he ensures Ty has plenty to eat and drink through the day.
It's a lovely slow burn development between the two as it takes time to come to terms with the idea that Ty may not be the main caretaker in a relationship, instead relishing in someone else being the one to take care of him for a change. I love when the opposite of what people assume happens, this time Ty being the larger man but Bear being the dominant of their relationship. They click as friends right from the start but you can tell there is something special, especially with Bear's awe when it comes to Ty's metalwork. They have some wonderful people in their lives but it's also great when Bear kicks some into gear about the way they treat Ty and what he is deserving of.
Another fabulous romance from Jacki James that I fell in love with from the start and I can't wait to see who gets their HEA, and joins the club, next.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Ty et Bear

.

This is the 2nd book in The Daddies of River Gorge Series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone but why not start with the first book. Each book is a different couple and this time it is Ty and Bear. Ty has lived his whole life in his home town. He is the go to guy whenever anybody needs help. Ty steps right up. He is a welder but dreams of being able to create art from metal all day long. When he is selected to create a major art piece for the towns upcoming festival, he meets Bear. Bear is a loving son who owns his own roofing business. He is selected to replace the roofs for the city for the same upcoming festival. Bear is also a daddy who had a terrible experience with his last boy. He is hesitant to try again. Bear too likes to help people when he can. There is instant attraction between the two when they meet. But neither thinks the other is interested in them like that so they become good friends. Bear sees that Ty need help putting himself first and volunteers to accept that responsibility. Ty and Bear have great chemistry. Being older gentlemen, they have a vast life experiences and interests in common. I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to read. I look forward to the next one in this series.

I received a free copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Where can I get my own Bear? The man is a gem amongst Daddies. And Ty, the most perfect boy who never knew was a boy.

I adore Daddy/Boy stories that reverse aspects like physical stereotypes. Ty being bigger than Bear doesn’t stop him from being the one in control!

Ty is such an incredible guy. Solid, loving, dependable, and oh so kind. He will drop everything to help others, even if it’s at his own expense. And though he has friends and family who love him, he doesn’t have anyone to put him first. Or cheer him on. Until he meets and befriends Bear. A man who was born to be a carer. It’s what makes him such a good daddy.

I really enjoyed this story of these two men finding each other, even though they didn’t know they were looking for them. And Bear’s affection, support, and encouragement before they even became romantic was absolutely adorable. As was Ty starting to see himself as a boy.

Seriously, there were so many sweet moments between Papa Bear & his Cub. I swooned a lot!

Look, sometimes you just want to read something fluffy, silly, and a little kinky. I will admit this was a lot less of the latter than I expected, but it delivered on the other two, so I’m happy.

This is a very easy read, no angst at all, just mutual pining and a lovely slow burn that I really appreciated. It also really did its job in building this small town, enough so that I might just end up continuing on with the series. The romance was quite sweet, and felt believable; it also helped that it has some of my favorite tropes in the relationship dynamics.

I will say, I was quite disappointed by the smut, which was really no more than three paragraphs each time and really left a lot to be desired — if porn is what you’re looking for in this book, I wouldn’t recommend it. I also thought once Bear and Ty got together, it became a little boring. I didn’t need a third act conflict between them or anything, but I wish there was something more substancial than what we got to introduce some tension. Like, I feel that we could’ve really done something more with the whole people taking advantage of his kindness part, at least.

Overall, this was fun and scratched the itch I had, so I’m happy.

Second in series (The Daddies of River Gorge) but can be read as a standalone. Daddy/boy. Mature characters. Friends to lovers. Slow burn. Dual POV. As the owner of a roofing business Bear is used to being in charge, and he hasn’t found a boy that accepts his need to be a protective and caring Daddy. Bear finds himself attracted to artist and welder Ty, a big, kind man that is always helping others, but who takes care of Ty? Ty has never considered being a boy and Bear doesn’t want to lose his friendship but it may be that a Daddy/boy relationship between them is just what they both need. The friendship between Bear and Ty is a wonderful build up to more for two likable characters that enjoy each other's company and appreciate the other before tentatively seeing if a romantic relationship will work. I really enjoyed all of their interactions in developing a strong friendship bond and their eventual steamy times. Ty and Bear are both dedicated to their family, hard workers, good friends, and very much deserving of finding their forever person. I am really enjoying River Gorge and this new set of Daddies. 4.5 rounded up

Another good book. in the River Gorge universe.

Bear is the daddy who sees himself as too overbearing.
Ty the cub who doesn't look after himself but is dropping everything for everyone else.

When both are put together at a project to revamp River Gorge they become friends.

I like the way their relationship devlopes. It's very much friends first and lovers later. Bear is learning that one failed relationship does not mean everyone sees him in a overbearing way when Ty lets him live out his need to care.

Ty - being tall and not "boy" like at all, can't imagine what Bear sees in him. There is chemistry but neither believes the other is what they expect in a romantic relationship. Only after Ty's injuring himself and under Bear's care they realise they are exactly what the other need. Ty can lean back and for once is the one who is looked after and cared for.

The books are clearly Daddy/Boy trope but I love that the relationship is not thrown into the reader's face from chapter 2. It's always a well written development and the small town setting with good developed secondary characters (new and old) adds to the pleasure of reading it.

Bear was a sweet and lighthearted read, with a great small town vibe and some unexpected attraction!

I love when things are switched up a bit and that was definitely the case here. Ty wasn’t the typical boy, being more of a bear cub himself, and it took him a bit to see himself in that role with Bear. Ty needed time to realise that he wanted someone to lean on, and Bear had to get out of his own head about his past failed relationship. I loved seeing them find each other and figure out a genuine dynamic without anything feeling forced or faked.

These two had a lot of chemistry right from the start, and while it took them some time to act on it, I loved how hot it got once they got there. Talk about sparks! A little forced proximity helped to move things along, and their relationship moved pretty quickly after they figured out their dynamic.

Overall, their story was pretty straightforward, with very little angst, and while Bear was very much a Daddy, the kink aspects were pretty mild. I really liked to read about Bear and his cub, they were just so sweet together! I also enjoyed being back in River Gorge, and I can’t wait to see who is getting paired up next!

Ty Ingalls has been the go-to guy for his family and is often the same for everyone else and so everyone sees him as a big strong man. Then he meets Bear who incorrectly assumes that all they can have is friendship even though he needs to be in control and be the Daddy and is the first person to ever want to take care of Ty. Ty is caught up in what the world expects from him and can’t see himself as a boy... but Bear can. Will he be able to help Ty realize that the way everyone else sees him isn’t as important as the way he sees himself?

I enjoyed this story where Bear can clearly see that Ty needs a Daddy and that he will have to work hard to make him realise how true that is. It was interesting to see how easy it actually was to push back against Ty's family and friends from taking advantage of him and that he just needed to confidence to push back. I loved the way the story ended with them having their HEA in a way that appealed to them both. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is a MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB relationship.

1 star… (DNF 60%)
Okay I am in the heavy minority (which is good) because I never want anyone to hate a book or to have the feelings I have about this book so let me star off with that. I am also about to be very critical of the book and all the books I’ve read by this author and that is no hate on them, they clearly are just not my cup of tea…

So first things first, this drags. I feel like I had to pull teeth to get through it and I didn’t think I was signing up for a slow burn here but it took more than 50% of this book for these two to even discuss kink while one is a daddy who has made it extremely clear it’s a huge part of his life. I’m just so bored with this book, the pacing, and the story overall.

I went back and looked at Jacki James books and realize I’ve rated almost everyone of them below 3 stars but I recognize the name and often just pick up books that look good and have an author I know so this IS definitely my own fault but it’s clear I don’t enjoy the works from this author so this will hopefully be the last book I read by them.

Bear Finding His Cub😍

When Bear first met Ty he felt the need to care for him, but he didn't act on it because he was finally ready to find his boy. Ty was a big guy and he didn't think that Bear would see him as anything but a friend, but then after spending time together they kissed. Ty was hoping that was the beginning of something but Bear backed out because he was looking for a boy and Ty didn't seem like a boy to him and he didn't want to lead him on. Bear couldn't get that kiss off his mind and after talking to a friend would had a brief relationship with Ty it made him think that Ty was a boy and may be the boy for him. When Ty got hurt that made it definite for Bear, he made up his mind to take him home and take care of him that was the beginning of their life together. All this was new for Ty, he never had anyone taking care of him, he was always taking care of others this was a much needed and welcome change. CUTE COUPLE, GREAT STORY!!😍😍

I loved this so much!

I love getting to visit River Gorge and all the wonderful characters there. It’s so nice to see it blossoming into a genuinely good place to live. Ty and Bear were so sweet together. The way they felt each other out, the way they slowly made their way to something that made them both so happy was lovely. I liked that the usual trope of a boy being a small, soft, twink who was all sparkles and sunshine was ignored. It’s not that I have an issue with a boy being a certain way, it’s more that it’s nice to see the concept of a boy being about what he desires and how he interacts with his partner more than it is about what he looks like. I loved that Bear cared about Ty as a person not as an ideal or a concept. As usual watching them fall in love and find their HEA was a sweet journey full of lots of friendly faces and a good dose of steam. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Bear and Ty....

3-3.5 stars for me. I liked Bear and I liked Ty. I liked their relationship dynamic...who Bear was and what Ty needed; however, this just felt forced to me. There's a part in the book where Bear is talking about his ex.....he said his ex as his boy felt performative. That's how I felt about Bear and Ty...the Daddy and cub just felt forced. I can't really explain it, because I really did like the story....

Bear is a caretaker and Ty is used (and expected) to take care of everyone else. You wouldn't think the two men could work, and actually neither do they. But they become friends and in that Bear starts to take care of Ty, doing little things to ensure he's okay. Then Ty suffers an injury that allows their relation to grow into more. It's a good read, but I think maybe I just didn't connect with the writing and the Daddy and Cub thing just didn't come across as authentic.

I'll probably still read Gibson though...

Bear-y Sweet

Bear and Ty are a delightful treat! I always love when Daddy / Boy relationships have an unexpected dynamic and these two are pure fun.

“I think your bossiness is sexy.”
“Oh, do you now?” I was pretty sure he thought so, but he might change his mind when I said no to something he really wanted. But either way, I found the cheeky attitude fun.
“Especially when you get all Papa Bear and growly.”

Mmm, Papa Bear, indeed. What’s not to love about two mature men finding love together in a wonderful way that works for them. I loved how Bear subtly, and then not so subtly, took care of Ty, and how Ty, the ultimate caretaker, realized he too deserves to be looked out for. These two made me smile and the way they chose to show their love made me bear-y happy. I can’t wait to see what’s next for River Gorge.

This is a nice book. I really liked Bear. It was easy to see how much he loved Ty and wanted to do everything in the world to make him happy. He was a true Daddy and was only happy when his man was. I liked Ty as well. I just didn’t like how he refused to say no when he was suckered into yet another project or favor. He came across as such a doormat. Even so, I liked them together.

Very low angst. No real drama.

I’ll be reading the others because I’m invested in this little world.

So unexpected

Omg I was so excited for bears book after meeting him in Cruz's but I absolutely was not expecting this book to be like it was. I was pleasantly surprised in more ways then one. I'm not going to lie there for a little bit until she described bear with a beard I was wondering just who was on the cover ty or bear. I do know that she put the daddies on the covers but with the way ty was described I wasn't so sure lol. I absolutely loved this book, I loved there relationship, and how it started. I just loved it, it quickly took a place on my favorites list. And tied as my favorite out of both series of river gorge. I will admit while I know both men are gay I couldn't help but imagine myself between them two because damn they both just hit all my boxes and weaknesses. I definitely recommend a million times

This was DNF at 75%...but I got bored, and I think it's a me thing, not the book.

Both leads were very well developed, and seeing their friendship bloom and move towards romance was actually really sweet. They're cute together. I got bored after they got together. I didn't really care too much about any sub-plots, and honestly...I think that's a me thing--not the authors fault or the writing. The writing is MUCH better than most daddy/boy books (I know I claim not to be into this kink (I'm not) yet I keep reading them...but it's constantly being suggested for me to read on my kindle since I've read one!! So those are now what I see now! How do I fix that!?). At least as of 75% there is no age regression (which I really appreciate, I really really am not a fan of age regression in books), so it's two responsible, adult men finding each other within friendship and love.

Bear is Book 2 in The Daddies of River Gorge series and can be enjoyed as a standalone. I love this wonderfully written sweet, friends to lovers, low angst story about Bear and Ty. Ty is dependable and has a hard time saying no to anyone who needs him. Bear is a Daddy in need of a boy and sees Ty as a possibility. I just love how Bear starts taking care of Ty even in the early days of their friendship. Bear is a born Daddy and just can't help himself. Bear and Ty are so sweet together. It was great to see Ty relinquish control and let Bear take care of him. Though their relationship dynamic isn't considered typical, it works for them and they are an asset to their small town. I definitely recommend this book and series.

Ty and Bear...I loved how they met...both thinking the other is hot but not their type...I also loved how they were close in age but so different in appearance. Not the usual which made this a delight to read. Friends to Lovers I would say this is. Yeah there is the Daddy/boy kink in there but I think their relationship was sooooo much more than that. Bear is definitely the daddy type that Ty needed. Ty recognizing his Papa Bear for the caring, loving and nurturing partner made just for him, made their dynamic special and not the standard. Definitely an enjoyable sweet with heat and a realistic take on small town living read that put a smile on my face til the end. I think others will enjoy too:)

It's like going back to a favorite place.

I initially read the blurb, and thought meh, nah. The having nothing new to read thought, I like Jackie James. I have early dementia ,and after starting to read , I realized, hey! I knows these guys. I've read about this place. River Gorge. The heroes Ty and Bear are great guys, both looking for that special someone, and not really wanting to settle for.. A place card. They become friends first, eventually realizing each of them have within themselves what the other is looking for. A nice sweet story without rage or hate.
It was nice to see what the other couples were up to. I remember Ripley with his pajama wearing goats....I'm going to re-read them again...

A cute story about about two big guys who start out as friends and the one Daddy realizes the other guy needs a Daddy because he just can't say no to his family, his community, anyone. Before long Bear, the daddy, is caring for him and making sure he's taking care of himself as we he works on a huge sculpture for a town festival. So it was cute and Bear makes him realize that maybe being taken care of and being a boy isn't a bad thing. Now this is part of a spin-off of another series so there were lots of characters who I was unfamiliar with so I was a bit lost at times with who was partnered with whom. So I enjoyed the relationship story and I'm sure people who are familiar with the series would enjoy all the other characters.

Arc Review: Bear by Jacki James

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶🌶

When two big, strong men who are both accustomed to being in charge fall in love, you have to wonder… Who’s the Daddy?

You can never go wrong with the Daddies of River Gorge. I've read several books in this series, and this one didn't disappoint either.

This story follows Bear, a Daddy seeking a boy of his own, and Ty, a people-pleaser who just wants to care for someone. But what happens when Ty realizes that maybe for once, he wants to be taken care of? Or when Bear realizes that looks and age don't always dictate that you can't have the type of relationship that you want?

Can't wait to read Gibson's story.
