Will my roller coaster romance with my hunky orc neighbor fly off the rails or ignite our hearts forever?
After inheriting my estranged dad's defunct kiddie amusement park, I turn in my corporate badge and return to my old hometown. Despite the issues I had with my dad, I rediscover the fun I missed out on while I lived the last ten years in the city. I'm determined to turn Quirky Kingdom into the showpiece it used to be.
Problem is -- more than just the rides need fixing. It’s way more than I can handle on my own. I tap my new neighbor to help -- Rexin, a hunky orc handyman who’s also a single dad extraordinaire. Since it’s summer, he brings his twelve-year-old son to the job with him.
As we grease wheels on the purple turtle ride and get the elephant carriages running again, sparks ignite between us. I begin to believe moving home was the right idea.
But my past makes me gun shy, and I’m not sure if what we’ve started will make me want to live in this town forever. His son playing matchmaker is cute, but it sure isn’t helping.
Only time can tell if our rollercoaster relationship will clickety-click its way to something special or veer off track forever.
* * ~ * * "Single Orc Dad" is the fifth sweet and steamy monster romance that makes up theSweet Monster Treatsmulti-author, shared-world collection. Each book is a standalone, containing its own 'Happily Ever After', and can be read in any order -- (but the series is likely enjoyed most when read in order, as characters may appear throughout the stories!)
Be sure to explore all the titles brought to us by three bestselling authors: • Book 01: "Cookies For My Orc Neighbor" by Michele Mills (2023) • Book 02: "Candy For My Orc Boss" by Ava Ross (2023) • Book 03: "Cupcakes For My Orc Enemy" by Honey Phillips (2023) • Book 04: "The Single Mom and the Orc" by Honey Phillips (2023) • Book 05: "Single Dad Orc" Ava Ross (2023) • Book 06: "Twins For The Wild Orc" by Michele Mills (2023) • Book 07: "Undercover Orc" by Ava Ross [2024] • Book 08: "Protected by the Orc" by Honey Phillips [2024] • Book 09: "Arrested by the Orc" by Michele Mills [2024]
"Single Orc Dad" is also a companion story in Ava Ross' Love at First Orc series. Expect size difference, plenty of spice, falling for a neighbor, a single dad (ha, right?!), his sweet matchmaking son who desperately wants a mom, laugh out loud moments, moving home and finding the “one,” a handy orc who’s handy in many ways (wink), and a happy ever after.
AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.
I actually DNFd this book around 60%...during the spicy scene. I was iffy up to that point, the writing in this book is not as developed or smooth as the previous ones. The plot was just not there for me and the flow wasn't either. give it a shot to decide for yourself
So much fun to read. Adeline Cames back to her home town after her father died, he left her jus amusement Park and house. She cries to fix it all but needs help and her new neighbour is all to eager ti help her. His Son likes her a lot and their dinamics is great. I really enjoy this small town Orc romances from Ava Ross.
Ha sido entretenido, me ha parecido interesante el mundo que se inventa la autora y no me importaría conocer más de esta cultura de los orcos. Los personajes han estado bien, me gusta como resuelve el tema de los abuelos al final.
After listening to another audiobook in this series with the same narrators, I couldn't resist adding this one to my collection as I enjoyed the other one so much. Once again Heather Firth and Aiden Snow do a fantastic job of bringing their characters to life in this sweet, romantic, steamy tale of a single Orc dad and a woman hiding a painful past.
Adeline has recently come back to her old hometown after leaving her old job to fix up the children's amusement park her estranged father left her. Determined to have the place up and running in a couple of months she hires the hunky orc handyman Rexin to help her, who is also dad to twelve year old Brear. Although she is attracted to the handsome orc, Adeline is not sure if she is going to stay in the town where she grew up as it holds some painful memories for her.
Rexin is no stranger to loss himself, after having a relationship with a human in his younger years, he was left raising his son alone. Leaving his home in the orc kingdom, Rexin brought Brear to the surface so he could explore the human side of his heritage. And though he feels sparks between himself and Adeline, he's not sure about getting involved with another human even if she might be his true mate.
But the 'star' of this book for me was Brear, the half orc half human child who is utterly adorable in every way. Playing Cupid to the two adults who seem to be avoiding getting involved with each other, he is determined to get them together using any means possible and being (or so he thinks) totally sneaky about it.
This was another enjoyable listen and the story had quite a few funny moments especially when Brear was playing matchmaker. There is a fair amount of spice so if it's not your cup of tea I'd give it a miss, although it could be easier to skip if reading it in book form. These books/audiobooks can be read in any order, though unfortunately only the two I have listened to so far are on audio. I'll definitely be checking the others out in book form as well and looking into the authors other series as I've found a new monster romance author to love. Highly recommend 😁
After emotional wreckage—after grief, war, trauma, and books that leave you staring at the wall in silence—I needed something kind. Something fluffy. Something that didn’t ask me to bleed with it. And Single Orc Dead turned out to be exactly that.
I listened to this one on audio, and honestly? It soothed something in me. It didn’t challenge me. It didn’t devastate me. It just… held my hand for a bit while my heart caught its breath. I truly believe some books feel better, or worse, depending entirely on when you read them. Order matters. Context matters. And as a palate cleanser after heavy, emotionally brutal reads, this worked beautifully.
The story itself is simple and sweet. Adeline inherits her estranged father’s defunct amusement park, a setting that already carries a gentle sense of nostalgia and melancholy. Enter a curious half-orc, half-human kid who keeps hanging around, and who turns out to be the son of Rex, the neighbouring orc handyman. Rex helps Adeline fix up the park, the kid becomes an A+ wingman and matchmaker, and the whole thing unfolds with warmth, humour, and low-stakes charm.
Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it deep or complex? Not really.
But it’s comforting.
Compared to the trauma-heavy, heart-shattering books I’ve been reading, this one inevitably felt a bit more surface-level, and I don’t mean that as a criticism. Sometimes a story isn’t meant to carve itself into your bones. Sometimes it’s meant to feel like a cosy interlude. In that sense it offered warmth, familiarity, and emotional safety between more intense reads.
There’s a bit of drama toward the end, which I actually enjoyed, and it gives the story just enough tension to keep things from feeling too flat. Adeline and Rex work well together, the kid adds genuine heart, and the found-family vibes land exactly where they should.
So yes, I’m settling on 3.25 stars. Not because I didn’t like it. Not because it wasn’t enjoyable. But because it is what it is, and what it is happens to be a gentle, wholesome breather in between emotional storms with low stakes.
💖 “Every beat of my heart belongs to you.” ~~~ Adeline is such a wonderful woman! She’s kind, caring, sweet and compassionate. Even more, I loved that she never hesitated to stand up for herself and go after what she wanted. And she’s also hardworking and very good with repairs. Adeline is truly awesome and I loved her so, so much.
And Rexin is an amazing male! He’s kind, thoughtful, patient, considerate, protective and irresistibly charming. And he’s a wonderful single father to the sweetest and the most stubborn and charming orcling - Brear. Even more, Rexin is hardworking and quite the handyman. I couldn’t help but adore everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Adeline and Rexin! After losing her mother, Adeline left her small hometown for the big city. But, after her father passed away too, now she’s back and trying to fix the family amusement park she inherits. And she meets a sweet orcling and his smoking-hot, huge and a bit snarly dad, who Adeline employs to help her in fixing the Quirky Kingdom. I loved Rexin and Adeline together! From the moment they met, their attraction was strong but both were hesitant to act upon it. Luckily, Brear is quite the sneaky matchmaker who managed to push them in the right direction. And what started as an employer-employee relationship, soon turned into friendship and something more. I absolutely loved every moment Adeline and Rexin spent together alone and with Brear. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were so hot. What can I say… an orc in heat is a sight to behold and I couldn’t get enough of all the naughty deliciousness. Rexin and Adeline were perfect for each other, and more than deserved to find happiness and love together.
Overall, the story is another sweet, naughty, fun and heartfelt addition to the series and I absolutely loved it!
Rexin has brought Brear to the surface to teach him about his mother's world, they not only find knowledge but a future Rexin never thought was possible. He finds acceptance, happiness and hope in the tiny human Adeline, she may be small but she has the biggest heart, one that was broken by the death of her mother and the rejection of her father. And although she is initially wary of accepting love, her huge heart overrules her head, it has more than enough space for a slightly broken Orc and his cute matchmaking son to fill the holes and heal her heart. They are all dealing with very human emotions and issues in this book and it is easy to get caught up in that and forget they are Others. The friendship they form is very sweet, Adeline completely "gets" Brear and shows great patience and love - without even realising it. The love and pure mate bond that forms between Rexin and Adeline feels both fast and slow at the same time. You are drawn into the excitement of opening the park, the poignancy of Adeline's childhood memories, the magic of new love and the rollercoaster of stress and fear over the court case Rexin finds himself thrust into. This was an especially emotional book in the series, it still had fun and laughter, but not quite the same amount of crazy as the first two books in the series, especially without Flora! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
No lie, I have a thing for run-down amusement parks, so this one kind of hit the spot. Sure, it was more a run-down amusement park fix-up, but I'll take it. Plus, the hunky orc and sassy human lady could NOT keep their hands off one another once they let go of their inhibitions.
But before we get to them...Rexin's son was ADORABLE. His super not-subtle attempts at matchmaking were great. Just...perfect. Fake phone calls to set up lunch dates, giving them time alone to get to know one another. Brear was a sweetheart from the start and I am all for his outstanding matchmaking.
As for Rexin and Adelaide, they might not have needed Brear's matchmaking attempts, but they were appreciated all the same. From the first time they meet, these two are attracted. A lot. They may have tried to hide it in the beginning, but it didn't take long before these two were getting frisky whenever the mood took them (provided little eyes and ears weren't around).
A little drama, a lot of elbow grease, a dip in the falls that has a very satisfying ending, an orc who knows what he wants when he sees it, and a lady who falls in love with an amusement park (and comes to terms with the issues she had with her dad) all over again. Good stuff.

Rexin (mmc, orc) Adeline (mfc, human) Brear (son of mmc)
Adeline's father died, leaving her his house and the small kids' amusement park. She's working diligently to get it up and running. Rexin is the local handyman, well, handyorc. She hires him to help her. His son is playing matchmaker, and it's seriously cute. But she doesn't know if she's planning on staying or selling. Rexin figured out she's his fated mate, but isn't sure about trusting his heart to another human. Will Brear get what he wants? Will Adeline stay or leave? Or will the past rip them apart?
The history the mfc had with her dad was heartbreaking. The backstory of the mmc and his son were gutwrenching. But both were told in an almost vague, delicate way. More information given about the mmc, at least up to almost halfway.
Rexin's son is a great kid, who happens to have met an interesting woman he could imagine being part of their lives, all he has to do is get his Dad, the local handyman /handyorc to spend time with her. That should be easy enough, she's got a major project on her hands!
Adeline has come back to her hometown to settle her father's affairs, it's not a permanent thing... unless it becomes one.
This done in one Kindle unlimited book is full of interesting, and relatable, family dynamics, as Adeline faces her memories of the past, finds herself reevaluating her present, and discovering new perspectives from which to view the time in between.
Brear, Rexin's son, is a delightful character with some really great moments throughout this book.
Honestly there’s no consistency in the orc lore among these books. In this book, orca go i to heat during spring. In another, it’s during the dead of winter. In this book there are female orcs. In another, there are none, and that’s why they need human females.
There are some details here that aren’t necessary. Like the fact that Brear’s grandpa was described as smiling in a slimy(?) way (like he’s gonna do something bad) which made me think he was a horrible person but turns out not really? Idk. That part wasn’t really explored very well.
I don’t think i’m gonna read any more orc romances in the future. I don’t think anybody has the orc lore down pat the way authors have sort of agreed on shifter and vampire lore. Maybe even fae. But orcs? The only thing the writers have in agreed on is that orcs are green and big.
Adeline inherited a small theme park when her father died, and is now trying to restore it. With the help of her attractive Orc neighbour Rexin, and his son Brear, things start to move fast. And then there is her attraction to Rexin, and the matchmaking of his son…
This is a quick read in Ava Ross’s Orcish world, though it’s a standalone story, some mention of the other orcs is made. It’s a small town romance with Orcs, and is an enjoyable, cosy read for cosy paranormal/monster romance fans. I did enjoy the small mention of Ava’s other book in the Monsterville series, which amused me (Candy for my Orc Boss), but loved the sweet romance between Rexin and Adeline. A fun read for monster lovers, and paranormal cosy romance fans.
Review: This was enjoyable. I liked Rexin almost as much as I liked Brear.

Quotes: “I get it. They say chocolate’s the way to a woman’s heart, didn’t you know? This woman anyway.” He studied my face, his own going pensive. “Would you like me to pursue your heart?”
"While I would give almost anything to be with her fully, I couldn’t let my every action be driven by an overwhelming need to consume her—the heat males fell into when they met their fated one. I wanted to pursue her. A fated mate was a gift, and I couldn’t turn my back on it. But after what happened in my past, could I trust my heart to another?"
"At least he didn’t say reading was boring. Escaping to new worlds through someone’s words was amazing."

Very little angst or drama, which frankly, is totally my jam right now.
Adeline has returned returned home after the death of her estranged father. He’s left her the amusement park that they had run as a family until her mother’s death changed her loving father into an aloof and unloving man. Rexin has moved to the surface in order to expose his son to his mother’s human culture. Brear is the result of a teenage relationship that Rexin had, which was not a fated mating. When Adelin runs into Brear while fixing up the somewhat dilapidated park, she likes him instantly, but she feels all kinda of things when she meets his father. Hoowee!
This was a great book. Adeline needs a sense of purpose after the loss of both her parents. While she is an adult the fact that she is alone does affect her. Not only that but she now has something that she needs to look after, her inheritance, the amusement park. In trying to look after it she encounters Rexin, an Orc and his just about to be a teen son, Brear. Having hired Rexin to help bring the amusement park back to life, Adeline tries to ignore the sparks she feels when with the somewhat grim Rexin. Never fear though as Cupid is being helped out by a rather sneaky Orcling. Lovely read for when it is all dark out, humour and fun just light you up.
I enjoyed this book! I loved how it was told in Dual POV and no third act break up. Brear was such a sweetheart and trying to help get his dad and Adeline together. Rexin was *chefs kiss* I loved the way his inner monologue always thought that Adeline was the most beautiful person. No matter what she looked like he always saw the beauty in her. He was so sweet and caring and a great father. Adeline was a strong character who was kind of figuring herself out after her dad’s passing. Her and Rexin grew close and found love. She cared for both him and Brear and the three of them made a great family. I hope Rexins brother has his own book. I would like to read that.

If you like orcs, single dads, and steamy love scenes you will thoroughly enjoy, if not love, this book. Rexin is a fantastic dad who just wants his son to be able to hold onto his innocence as long as he can. Adeline is a woman who has lost her way a bit and has come home after her father’s death to try to figure out what she really wants in life. Brear, Rexin’s son, is the ultimate icing on this sweet book. Seeing him try to play matchmaker was so cute and funny at times. The three of them really were able to form a family and stand together during the twist/issues that come. Truly loved it.
My least favourite in the series so far I haven’t been reading it in order but this one has a lot of discrepancies and doesn’t really align with the background consensus of the other books. For example, she doesn’t get pregnant in this book because has an iud but in twins for the wild orc the fl gets pregnant because she didn’t know that human contraception doesn’t work with orcs. There’s also other discrepancies that just distracts from the actual story. I ended up skipping the spicy scenes because I just had no emotional investment in the leads. The book starts off alright but personally it just got more and more boring, I ended up skipping a lot of pages which I rarely ever do.
This was truly a sweet read with all the wonderful gooeyness we all need in a romantic love story.
Our female lead is a compassionate human female who has some unresolved issues after the passing of her father. Her neighbor is a gruff handsome orc who has an incredibly intuitive son who sees an opportunity to do some impromptu meddling.
With a few obstacles in their path, its nothing that the three of them can't overcome as this new family unit.
Sweet & spicy, sexy & hot. Another great read Ava 💜
This is a love story and I absolutely love Brear! He is such an awesome kid! Rexin and Adeline are wonderful too but Brear stole my heart from his first appearance. Ok, ok, back to the lovers of our story..Rexin is a handyorc and Adeline needs his help getting her amusement park back up and running. I very much enjoyed watching these two getting to know each other. I loved the healing Adeline received through working on the Amusement park. Again, Ava Ross has written a book that I couldn't put down and read in 1 sitting. These Orc books are so good and so much fun. I loved it!
This was a fun end of summer story about found family. The only thing that bothered me was a minor detail, but it wouldn't leave me alone. Almost from the beginning, the two adults kept discouraging the boy from helping to work in the park, but he was at a great age to do volunteer work. I'm a firm believer that if a kid wants to help out, as long as it is an age appropriate activity with supervision, you let them. Usually a minor detail like this doesn't bother me, but that's where my head was today. It is otherwise an entertaining story with a good ending.
Started out decently promising, but as the book went on it just kind of waned. The romance again was cute at first but just kind of turned muddled… like, one second he was like oh, she can’t be my fated mate and then the next second he’s like no she definitely is! Also, once they started having sex, that was pretty much the whole book… and it wasn’t even that great imo. Plus the ending was super corny. The writing style kind of felt like an eighth grader was writing in places. So, three stars for the first half.
In this enchanting orc romance, the chemistry between Adeline and Brear, the son of Resin, is palpable. Brear, a matchmaker at heart, proves to be considerate and resourceful. Adeline, seeking to revive the amusement park bequeathed by her father, enlists Rexin's expertise. As the park springs back to life, so does Adeline's affection for her late father, her self-discovery, and an unexpected romance with Rexin. The story culminates in a joyous finale, ensuring a 'happily ever after' for everyone involved.
Single Orc Dad is book 5 in the Sweet Monster Treats series, but it can be read as a stand alone book. I've not read anything else from this series. It is a paranormal, small town, romance with a single father Orc and a human woman. I've never read a book with an Orc before, but I had seen the cover a lot on social media and it seemed to have good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. It was a cute book. I liked it. It was enjoyable. The narration was really good. I would recommend this book if it is your kind of thing. Solid 4 stars.
An orc who tells his kid it's time to brush his tusks. This was a good book to read in a hospital lobby; it didn't demand a lot from me, and it held my attention. Very here for an orc romance interest who sidesteps the nasty race-coding angle. I also liked the detail/setting of repairing a decrepit amusement park. Worldbuilding was not a major focus, but not totally generic either. Dual first POV, but not super voicey with either MC (descriptions were generally not lush). One multi-chapter open-door scene and a few more mostly closed.
I’m loving these Orc adventures that Ava has been taking us on and this book is no exception. After reading almost all of her books at this point, I’d have to say this one was, by far, the sweetest. Rexin and Adeline tugged at my heartstrings… and Brear, our little 12 year old orc, has me wanting orclings of my own!! If you are looking for a sweet monster romance with just as much spice (or more!)… then I highly suggest you devour this book asap!
Orc's came above ground a few years ago and they're mixing in with humans just fine. Rexin, an Orc, with his 12 year old half-orc son moved above ground about a year and a half ago and bought a place next to the kids amusement park. Adeline moved home to fix up the park, met Rexin and the sparks flew, with the help of Rexin's matchmaker son Brear. This is a sweet story with its' share of plot twists, happiness, worry, spice and hard work. A fast paced page turner that is a joy to read.
