Beware, you are about to embark on a journey into an unknown world full of magic, where anything is possible. There is no such thing as goblins – this is precisely what Sali thought until she was startled from her sleep one frightful night by noises coming from the factory opposite her house. A goblin factory that turns children into burgers! Sali must leave her idyllic Cotswolds village behind and embark on an adventure with a newfound friend. Join Sali and her good goblin sidekick Karbunkle in their awe-inspiring mission to save humanity from an evil goblin enterprise. Each of the seven stories takes many twists and turns with Sali and Karbunkle encountering lots of quirky characters along the way, from talking pebbles on a Devonshire beach to pirate goblins off the coast of Tossa de Mar.
This is a book no child will want to put down, with its breathtakingly beautiful illustrations, which bring the story to life. Each page is full of magic and wonders, making it a marvellous addition to any child’s bookshelf. Even though I have now read each book multiple times, each time I read them afresh, new images stick out at me, or something delightfully quirky and unique makes me smile in a different beat of a sentence. My favourite details today (though they were different yesterday and will change by tomorrow!) are the sea salt at Witch Hazel’s and the newly delicate handling of the bottle babies. – Elanor Best The characters were so colourful and the stories so imaginative, which made it a really fun read. The illustrations are beautiful, too, and really bring the stories to life. – Rebecca Dyer
