The first book I sat down and said, "I'm officially a writer. Now, I need to apply some skill."
This is what I consider my first real piece of work. The others were playing at fun, but this one... it's serious business. Carefully crafted and calculated, the first book of The Compass Series is an overview of the world I built, one I had been playing with for years in my mind. Gathering my supplies, I mapped out the details from start to finish in a four book string of events that starts in the east.
It is not a standalone series and each will progressively lead you into the twisted tales of the politics inside the city's limits, but focuses on the healing journeys of romantic love.
Enjoy your journey in Gnarled Pine Hollow and I hope you come out alive.

I'm still reeling from the way this book ended. So the basic overview, this book is a Mafia Dark Romance that's set in an area that's been split into 4 sections, each ran by a founding family.
The families are distinguished with Bear, Fox, Wolf, and Bull. Each in control of East, West, South, and North side respectively. The east side is in shambles because the family left, West is managing at keeping the peace, South side leader is buried in the casinos of his land, and that leaves the North with its shiny new buildings.
Strauss runs the North but also has his hands in whether the other areas succeed or perish. He controls everything and is determined to keep his control.
Max, Bear, moves home with his sister Ari, to reclaim his birthright as the head of the East side and bring it back to a thriving community. But everything has a cost and as the book went on, some of the prices are extremely steep and may cause more trouble than help.
Livia is the sister of Cal who is the leader of the Fox/West side and Max has been trying to kiss Livia for years.
This series is definitely different than Kitty's others and I went in expecting something similar and while I was disappointed at the slow burn and the build-up in the beginning, I'm happy to say I'm glad I pushed through the world development that added to the character s' development. There's plenty of Mafia style action, and the push and pull relationship between Max and Liv was almost frustrating at times but as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
Be sure to check trigger and content warnings because there's quite a few on and off page situations that could be triggering. There's some spice and a whole lot of build up and colorful explanations of said build up but it adds to the back and forth. Revenge, action, secrets, and obsessions are just a few of the main drivers in this book and I look forward to seeing how everything plays out because there's a whole bunch of questions I'm speculating the answers and outcomes. Kitty dies it again!!!

Maximillian & Livia
Ok first of all I love the relationship between Max & Arianna…always the protective older brother…protector of her & her innocence no matter her age….he would burn the entire world to the ground for his sister
Maximillian, the little Lion 🥰, is trying to do right by his family line even if he doesn’t always make the best choice…he trusts no one but over time his walls start to crack & crumble a little
Then you have Livia, or as Max likes to call her foxy….shes such a badass!!! She trusts no one aside from her twin brother Cal….secretly she had loved Max since they were kids but wasn’t about to ever admit that…uh Barracuda…just wait & read it….you’ll see what I mean
Max & Liv were chaotic & messy but I loved it….both are super strong characters but Max does not like to be told no ever….he wants what he wants when he wants it even though it rarely worked out like that for him…he wasn’t giving up on Livia though…with her patience was a virtue
Livia was strong but broken….she had seen what her father had done to her mother & Livia was not about that life
Would I recommend this book??? Uh of course….Is it super smutty like her others??? Yes & no….its kind of sprinkled around
If you love a good childhood friends to enemies to friends to lovers give it a read…its the first book of the series & I need to know what happens next

I really wanted to like it. I also really wanted to read the second book.
The concept is good, the characters are ok, the writing is a solid 4 stars at most times and the spice is nice. It’s an easy read in terms of pacing.
Yet it’s just not… it doesn’t click.
Reading it, to me personally, feels like a chore and somehow the story doesn’t draw me in. I cant even pinpoint it.
I’m glad other people love it so much and maybe I’ll come back to it in the future but as of right now, unfortunately, I don’t really care to find out what else happens.

Organised crime, enemies to lovers and a list of trigger warnings…. SAY LESS.
I’m not gonna lie, this book had me hooked pretty fast. I’m a dark romance lover and Beastly Armory was right up my alley.
The chemistry between Livia and Maximillian is undeniable but in my opinion, it is a slow angstful build up for the lovey dovey. There is still plenty of spice along the way!
This is a plot rich story with suspense and mystery. I loved that I couldn’t predict everything that was going on.
This is a HEA, at least for now. Rawest Venom is book 2 and I cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on it because I am not ready to leave the Compass series world any time soon.
I would suggest checking trigger warnings if you are not sure on the dark romance scale. This one is on the darker side with plenty of blood and gore.

What a rollercoaster this book has been! And what a way to end it!! So many questions, so many things left unanswered! This book was amazing and kept me guessing the whole time, I couldn’t put it down! Spice was good, lots of feels and suspense! I need the next book!

Beastly Armory is a dark organized crime romance set in a gritty, dystopian city. Traditionally split into quadrants, Gnarled Pine Hollow has found itself decimated after a coup from one of the four leaders and hasn’t recovered in the years since. After fleeing with his family as a child, Max is now ready to come back and claim his seat as the heir to the East and attempt to restore it to some of its former glory. But Gnarled Pine Hollow isn’t the same as he left it all those years ago…and neither are the allies he left behind.
In true Kitty King fashion there is spicy chaos that will keep you giggling even with the serious nature of the plot. There is a scene with a hole… in a wall… and it is glorious…(are you following along? Good.) When was the last time you read a book that included such a unique interior design feature? Kitty is always keeping us on our toes.
Spicy chaos aside, the gritty setting and fast paced action really take you for a ride. If you’re needing a FMC who is an absolute baddie then Livia Von Dovish has you covered. It is heist time all of the time, baby, and the stakes are through the roof. And Max is hilarious, even while doing Morally Gray MMC Things. This world is so consuming I need the next book as soon as humanly possible.

When Kitty King said "to those who like a little ṣəx with their blood," she wasn't kidding because the smutt in this book is wildin!
This book tells the story about a guy that, after having left with his family when he was a kid, has return to the city to claim back his place as the head of one of the four most powerful families. In the process of this, he reconnects with his childhood crush, but beware, this is not your typical romance. The tug and pull between Max and Liv was sweet, sad, hot, funny, repeat. But when the inevitable finally happened... did I mention the wildin smut scenes already? Yeah, this right here. And that wedding ceremony, if I ever get married, I want this or nothing.
But, not everything is wild, crazy kınkƴ ṣəx. Kitty did a wonderful job at setting the base for the rest of the series, gave us a whole lot of action, broke our hearts in the process, but also did a pretty good job at mending it with that beautiful ending. My only complaint is that the chapters are on the longer side, which kinda messes up with my usual reading technique, but that's a me issue.

Good read
Dystopian is not a trope (genre?) that I typically read, but Kitty King may have just changed that for me. I was a little confused as to some of the descriptions, but Kitty wrote it in such a way that I ended up having AHA! moments the further I read. Livia was a strong badA FMC, and Max was the protective, "She's MINE" MMC that we all love to read about. It was a pretty slow burn (imo) but the tension, THE TENSION, between Foxy and Bear was FELT and once we got to the burn, oh man was it spicy! But Miss MA'AM Kitty King, that cliffhanger! I am very much looking forward to book 2 in the series!

Beastly Armory is book 1 in the Compass Series and is a dark organized crime romance taking place in a city with dystopian vibes. This one blew me away. This was so much more than I was expecting going into this. The world building is complex and just so so good. The characters are all engrossing and I could not get enough of them. Max and Livia were both equally strong and sexy AF and both just the right amount unhinged. The romance is definitely a slow burn but so so worth it 🔥🥵 This right here is how you set the bar for a series!! 5⭐️

Kitty King has once again shown her diverse skill set through her writing. She has progressively gone through themes of a dark stalker, friends to lovers, age gap romance, and now, a suspenseful dystopian thriller in her latest, “Beastly Armory.”
Though different from her previous books, it was undoubtedly not shorted on the darkness, spice, and gritty descriptions she classically writes so well. With a strong FMC, which I adore, and a very OTT/JP MMC that are well matched, “Beastly Armory” is full of action, hand-to-hand combat, and a unique storyline that entirely held my attention. Still, it does end in a cliffhanger––the little snippet at the end alone was enough to want the next book immediately! However, I didn’t mind the cliffhanger this time because I knew Kitty King would not disappoint.
I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Holy fuck balls!! Like how does this honestly set the bar so high for the series that I’m like nervous that the others won’t live up but then I remember the queen never lets us down. We start off with the introduction to the four families and ummm where do I find my own Max? I want someone as obsessed with me as he is with Livia lol. Now be prepared for lots of questions, steamy scenes featuring a glory hole LOL, and lots of blood. But I will say I am NOT OKAY over something that happens and I am still in delulu land thinking it’s going to be like surprise just kidding! Totally cruel to do to me and come back and let me know once you get to it so we can start a support group. You’ll need it. Overall I can’t wait for the next book and I’m just not so patiently waiting for it.

HOLY SHHHH…. This book is incredible. It’s freaking beautifully complex. Kitty King built a world that all encompassed me. The characters are enthralling and the character building in the side characters- amazing. Each chapter had me on the edge of my seat, having no idea what to expect next. The smut as in true Kitty King fashion, but the plot was beyond fascinating that I wasn’t even thinking about smut.
My emotions and feelings are completely in rollercoaster mode as reflect on the story. Impressive start to your new series Kitty. Remind me to tell you that I, too am mad about a certain part, but am dying to know how the story continues.

This book just put an emphasis on why I will read anything Kitty King writes. This is nothing like what I have read from her before but man do I love it!!
Max is the King Consort of the East but to reclaim his place on the throne and take care of his sister Ari he has to do some dark, disturbing and heinous things. It makes him excited and he’s ready to risk everything.
However, he soon runs into his childhood crush/BFF is all things tough and leather. Livia is all things we love a super tough FMC to be. And she’s also trying to protect her and her side of the Gnarled Pines Hallow.
In every chapter there was action, suspense and smexxxxxx. Everything I love in a dark romance. Mafia at its best and unhinged I LOVED this book.
But, also Kitty… I don’t know when I’ll forgive you for what you did. And you know what you did LOL.

Kitty King’s books just get better and better. This one blew me away! If you love mafia/dark romance- this is one you should read! Hardcore, possessive MMC who falls “first” and doesn’t give up PLUS an FMC that is freaking bad*** = dang what did I just read? Buckle up because this book is NOTHING like you've ever read from Kitty King! This story is gritty, action packed, and spicy. You are introduced to the four clans of Gnarled Pine Hollow whose members all have deep-seated resentment and distrust towards those outside their clan. One clan claims all the power, but the other clans are tired of falling in line and some are willing to take great risks to even the playing field.
I enjoyed learning about the world of Gnarled Pine Hollow and the main players, especially Max and Livia. The chemistry between those two was hot and I loved their banter. Although Livia plays hard to get, Max never loses interest in his fox. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to see what happens next.

~I honestly don’t know what I was expecting going into this book but my mind was definitely blown. I enjoyed the mafia-ish trope, the complex of Max and livia relationship was so good. The push and pull like who doesn't like a little slow burn. I love Max, mmc that falls first are just better and Livia is such a badass. I enjoyed the plot twist, the families dynamic and the spice was hot. Damn this book was everything and more.. I loved everything about Livia and Max relationship, they were definitely an unstoppable force.

Oh this book. Let me start by saying the world building in this book is perfection. These two were wild for each other once they finally went all the way. This book was action packed from the start. I never once found myself bored. I was sucked in from the start. My only disclaimer (other than trigger checking) this book is very much a slower burn than other books but it was completely worth the wait.

It’s difficult to put into words exactly what this book is and how I feel about it. It was amazing, but also an incredible mindf*ck, and I was going through all the emotions reading; frustration, sadness, anger, happiness.
I was immediately hooked on this new world Kitty has created, but it still took me a bit of time to really be consumed with the story, with all the different aspects of the book fitting together. It was different, but so well-built I really felt like I was there (even if that would have been completely terrifying, in real life…).
Gnarled Pine Hollow is this dystopian city ruled by 4 families in the North, East, South and West, respectively. Although lately it’s the consort of the North that rules it all. Each part of the city has its own distinctive look and purpose, and it’s so very well described, and I can definitely see this become a movie - perhaps, except for some of the more gory/violent and sexual things that’s also happening...
Maximillian ‘Max’ Freidenburg is returning to take back the East after years in hiding with his sister. Livia Von Dovish is the twin sister of the consort of the West, but she is not happy with how passive he is, and she rebels against her destiny of being married off and used only to keep the family line going.
Max and Livia used to friends when they were kids, but being from different consorts, they weren’t supposed to be friends. When Max is returning he quickly runs into Livia again, but now they are enemies. Although, they have this powerful connection and the chemistry between them is so very hot, and the tension is building. They also need to help each other to gain power and try to beat the North.
I loved both Max and Livia. They are in some ways polar opposites, but in other ways, they share the same values and wishes, and they really complement each other very well. Max is this über protective guy with an admirable determination to get what he wants, while caring for his loved ones. Livia is a complete bada$$, and definitely not some meek woman doing what she's told and is expected of her, but instead what she deems necessary to protect her city.
There is a lot of action happening; a lot of secrets being revealed slowly, some shocking twists and turns, and just when I thought I knew what was going on, Kitty pulled the rug out and everything was turned upside down again.
There was also serious spice; the chemistry was off the charts, but with them being sort-of enemies, and all the secrets and action happening, the tension was building for quite some time, before the spice really hit - but then, it was on!
It really fit the characters and the story with this slower build-up. It wasn't an easy road, by no means, and the journey towards them being together was filled with tension and secrets, and I was biting my nails waiting to see what exactly would happen.
I can’t recommend this enough, but please do check your triggers if you have any, otherwise just go in blind and hang tight for this wild and amazing journey. Also, be aware that the ending clearly leaves you waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc for this book so I went into it with a clear mind ready to get my review on. I had an inkling I was going to enjoy it just from reading the blurb but they can be deceiving so I tried to clear my view prior to starting. I can tell you one thing; I was right. I bloody loved it; it blew my socks off. I fell in love, it was completely unexpected. It wasn’t like anything I could have imagined. Kitty, you said you’d built an entire world and boy did you deliver it. It was so cleverly written to be a world like no other.
It’s like the perfectly blended mix of mafia and fantasy, I felt like I’d been whisked away to some bad ass, Mad Max kinda fantasy land far, far away; the world building was top notch.
Gnarled Pine Hollow; four separately ran sectors, all under rule of the North. Each sector ran by the founding families.
Max returns home to the East, set on revenge and to rebuild his family’s legacy. He crosses paths with Livia and the journey begins there. This journey has everything, suspense, thrills, serious spice, hot chemistry; you name it, it’s got it. It’s even got things you didn’t know you’d ever want but actually really needed in your life.
Livia is a bad ass FMC and Max is the obsessive morally grey MMC you’ll fall head over heels for. The push and pull between Max and Livia can be seriously frustrating at times but the chemistry is off the charts so it’s worth the struggle. I was physically panting sat on the edge of my seat at quite a few points during this read, it was intense, I loved it.
Ensure you check the TW before reading this book as Kitty doesn’t hold back.
If you’re a dark romance lover, I would highly recommend this book. It will take you on the dark, erotic ride of your life. I’m smitten with it, I cannot wait for the next one.
It’s like the perfectly blended mix of mafia and fantasy, I felt like I’d been whisked away to some bad ass, Mad Max kinda fantasy land far, far away; the world building was top notch.
Gnarled Pine Hollow; four separately ran sectors, all under rule of the North. Each sector ran by the founding families.
Max returns home to the East, set on revenge and to rebuild his family’s legacy. He crosses paths with Livia and the journey begins there. This journey has everything, suspense, thrills, serious spice, hot chemistry; you name it, it’s got it. It’s even got things you didn’t know you’d ever want but actually really needed in your life.
Livia is a bad ass FMC and Max is the obsessive morally grey MMC you’ll fall head over heels for. The push and pull between Max and Livia can be seriously frustrating at times but the chemistry is off the charts so it’s worth the struggle. I was physically panting sat on the edge of my seat at quite a few points during this read, it was intense, I loved it.
Ensure you check the TW before reading this book as Kitty doesn’t hold back.
If you’re a dark romance lover, I would highly recommend this book. It will take you on the dark, erotic ride of your life. I’m smitten with it, I cannot wait for the next one.

This book started this series off with a bang. Lies, secrets, and the need for revenge fueled the bloodlust in Max to return to Gnarled Pine Hollow to end the man who ended the lives of his people and parents. With his sister Arianna along, Max is up for a major wake up call as he returns and is faced with a life he hasn't seen or known in years. With the guidance of a few trusted allies Max is ready to set his plan in motion and the first stop his a place where he knows will make his return known. A proposition leads him to being right in front of the woman who was a friend, Livia. This chance encounter cements his belief in needing the one person who's always had his heart and he will one way or another get her to be his. But Livia on the other hand is not going to give in so easily because she has a secret of her own and she will not give into the life of a woman marrying into this world, not yet at least. Playful banter, teasing, a lot of funny moments, crazy scenes filled with war & spice, lust for each other and danger, sweet times, the edging of dangling that slow burn, heartbreaking moments, wild & crazy & hot spice, and a whole lot of action. Beastly Armory is book 1 in The Compass Series and it introduces us to Maximillian Freidenberg and Livia Von Dovish. Two childhood friends turned enemies turned lovers. After being gone for many years, Max returns home to reclaim the throne and restore his families business in the hard streets of Gnarled Pine Grove. Livia sees an opportunity to gather the weapons she needs for her clan but there is an issue, she must acknowledge her feelings for Max. Something she’s been fighting for years. Together, they make a deal that will ultimately change their lives and lives of others.
Kitty snapped writing this book. It is definitely not like her other books. You get a lot of action and the characters go on quests to accomplish their goals. Not only that, you get hot, spicy scenes that will have a preacher blushing (Foursome scene and glory hole scene). The ending of chapter 17 tho. SMH…Talk about HURT!!!! I was not expecting that to happen. Livia had me stressed out a little bit when it came to Max. She was teasing me and this man. Max is a great leader even though he had some mishaps and Livia is the perfect woman to be by his side to help and remind him that he is.
If you never a Kitty King book, please read the trigger warnings because it’s definitely blood and gore between these pages. I’m excited to see what the next book will consist of because I was left with many questions that needs answers to.

can a book have a slow burn if there is a smexy scene in chapter two? because the groveling by max is *chefs kisses*. the smexy scene is actually a MFMF scene but the two main characters don’t do anything together. so I guess you can decide for yourself when you read this book
I have read a few books by kitty so far and I thought that her books couldn’t get any darker…
well I was wrong
this book has all the spice and violence all in one and tell me why I wasn’t turned off by it 🫣 if any of these things happened to me in real life, catch me going the other direction but give me all of it in this book
max and livia are meant for each other but it took them a while to figure it out. the banter between them kept in check and they are both cocky as hell thinking that they are the best gun dealer in town
and don’t even get me started on the gas station scene 🔥 there’s a hole between the men’s and women’s bathroom just big enough for a you know what and I think you can figure out the rest 👀
I cannot wait for the next book of this series to come out so I can read about what happens next

Please read all trigger warnings at the beginning of the book! That being said I absolutely loved this book! 5 ⭐️ out of 5! It’s starts off with Max going back to his hometown to get revenge and rebuild his family legacy. He remeets Livia who he has been in love with. She resists him as best she can and he is chasing her while trying to get his empire rebuilt. Most of the book Kitty is edging you in the best way possible! When they finally do have spicy time 🥵 HOT!! Just when you think everything is going amazing, bam tragedy strikes 😭 and Max will become a loose cannon for revenge who can bring him back, well his one and only love Livia. Livia has her own struggles through the book that she is trying to handle and the best way to do that is by pushing the one she loves away. Well Max is not one to quit when it comes to the women he loves. The way it ends well it’s the first in a series so more to come! Definitely recommend reading this book! 😏
