Twenty-six-year-old Sharlie Converse, born with a heart defect that has made her live carefully from moment to moment, falls in love with Brian Morgan who must convince her to have a long-resisted operation
I laughed, I cried and I loved this book and I have read it over and over again. Its Like the movie Return to me without the happy ending. Its about a young woman who was born with a heart defect and grew up by very protective parents who kept her away from reality and the world. when on the city bus returning from a shopping trip she passes out and is helped by a young man, they fall in love, She receives a heart from a man that wasn't that good of a person. She marries her prince, this is her story of love, triumph and disappointments. This is real only in fiction. I will let you read the ending for yourself.
For the first time in a long time, I was able to finish a book in a single setting. This novel is a lot like Love Story and the meet-cute between Sharlie and Brian is a little cliched. In fact, the whole story is cliched. But it was still a good read. Sharlie and Brian are solid characters and while I could see the ending coming right around the heart transplant scenes, I still stuck with it to see how it happened.
Just the sappy love story I was looking for! My copy-write says 1979! Cute witty banter between her and him, tears at the end.... how do writers write about dying with such ability to get my tear ducts flowing?!

Didn't care for it - too repetitive, author tried to use "big words" which was just disruptive, could have cut out more than half the book because there was so much fluff
The character development in this book was terrific. I always say if I don't care about a character it's a waste of time to read a book. In this book I cared about so many. As a hospice volunteer I appreciated the way they dealt with death.
