And Drew knows. He knows he likes men—Holden in particular. He knows he’ll have to make the first move. And when he and Holden are together, Drew knows nothing has ever been more right. The problem is that Holden doesn’t know it too.
Holden knows he isn’t good enough for Drew—an ex-con is never a good bet--but that doesn’t stop him from wanting him. He craves Drew more than he wants to breathe, and that’s the problem. Between his dubious past and all the complicated family issues, Holden is afraid of hurting Drew. And that’s the one thing he never wants to do.
When two strong souls collide, the stars align and something right is born. But can love survive the storms, or will something right turn into what could have been?
Shaniel Watson is the author of the Imperfections Series. Her first book was published in 2015. She writes stories she likes to read, sultry emotional stories with imperfect characters who eventually get their happy ending. Shaniel lives in New York and is the proud mother of two daughters.
Drew has had a crush on his sister's boyfriend's brother Holden forever, but Holden has never seen Drew as anything more than kid. Until the pair start working together at Holden's aunts hardware store, and he finds himself attracted to the younger man. Only Holden keeps holding himself back much to Drew's disappointment, but there's only so much denying Holden can do, and things eventually do heat up between the two.
I really wanted to like this, but was a struggle for me. I never really connect with Drew or Holden, and found the chemistry between them lacking. Plus Drew came across a little too pushy at times, and Holden who was supposedly super into Drew wouldn’t kiss homie on the mouth but would blow him??? It was just odd lol. I did eventually warm up to these two, but their story still fell a bit flat for me.
This is the second book in a series, and while I haven't read the first one yet, it works perfectly as a standalone (though I’ll definitely be going back to read book 1).
The story of Drew and Holden hooked me from the very start. I flew through this in one sitting and couldn't put it down. Drew knows he likes men and wants to make money playing video games, but neither seems to be working out as he had hoped. Having struggled most of his life to keep himself and his siblings together, 18-year-old Drew is filled with anger and arrogance, always ready to express his thoughts, good or bad.
Holden notices Drew right away when he finds him working at the family hardware store, the little brother of his brother’s fiancée. The cute guy is too young and too close to being family for Holden to consider a relationship, but Drew is persistent and manages to chip away at Holden’s resolve.
Both characters are a bit broken from past experiences but find an undeniable attraction to each other. Drew has wanted Holden for as long as he can remember, and although the feeling is mutual, their journey to being together is far from easy.
The book is filled with sweet moments, some spice, and a truly heartwarming HEA. I’m excited to read the first book and look forward to more in this series.
Drew has been crushing on Holden since... Well forever So when Drew gets the chance to work, daily mind you, at Holden's grandma's hardware store you can bet your paycheck he's not going to waste the opportunity There is a wee problem though Holden is... Well, holding out
At first, Drew came across as a bit irresponsible, slightly sarcastic even. As the story progresses I found it was his way of protecting himself Holden, however, is somewhat the opposite. When it comes to his family and his responsibilities they come first. Though sarcasm is strong with this one as well
When Drew begins to drop very blatant hints that he is attracted to Holden he does his best not to acknowledge him Firstly there is his dark past. What can he offer such a ray of sunshine? Not to mention him being his brother's betrothed little brother Yeah, that wouldn't go over very well However, the draw is beginning to be too much and Drew shows no signs of stopping.
It took me a few chapters to get into the story and connect with the characters, however, once I found that sweet spot I was a goner Plenty of steam between Drew and Holden. They did fit together perfectly it just took a bit for them to figure it out This had all the banter and steam dotted with some angst and personal growth.
The author has given us an amazing read about two men coming together and learning about true connections. The storyline broke my heart in so many ways but the author turned around and lifted it to the point of smiles and tears. This is Drew and Holden’s story. We met the men in book 1 of the series, where their banter was noted, at least to this reader. Drew is now 19 and trying to figure out what to do with his life. The only thing he knows for sure is he wants Holden. Holden is an ex-con who everyone but his Aunt and Drew seem to think is a lost cause and have no problem letting him know it. This causes Holden to believe he’s not good enough for Drew and no matter how much he may want to be with him. Their road is full of bumps and curves with pitfalls around every corner. Can these two find a way to each other or will family, friends and outside forces leave them wondering why something so right is what’s not meant to be.
This is an outstanding read and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. This is book 2 in the series and while it’s helpful to read book 1 to better understand the backstory, it’s not a must. I highly recommend grabbing Something Right up asap, you won’t be sorry IMHO.
2.5⭐️ Sorry to say, this wasn’t for me. I didn’t like how Holden treats Drew for a good chunk of the book, he’s often rude and condescending. Holden drags his feet so long, making it hard to be invested in their relationship. I did like the section when he finally put the families in their place, but it was left too late for me. Drew’s sister Lexi was similar issue, I get that she’s has a lot on her plate, but she was very controlling of Drew. The bossy intrusive sibling has become one of my least favorite romance tropes. For me, the tension also felt fabricated. Holden and Drew are adults, what their families think about their relationship shouldn’t matter. The character I liked the most was Noah, his parts in the story worked best for me. He was pretty lovely.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I'm writing this review for United Indie book blog.
The odds are definitely against these two but it doesn't stop them from being with each other! Drew's young age seems to be a problem while Holden's past actions are his. It seems that not everybody can see what they share is a good thing. I really liked this book and that the fact that Holden and Drew didn't let their families keep them apart. They fought for their love. Despite Drew being younger, he helped Holden see his potential with the band and his woodwork skills. He was a ball of fire that just kept pushing and pushing until you had no choice but it let it ignite. He was exactly what Holden needed. Holden, on the other hand, wanted more for Drew. Knew he needed to chase his dreams and pursue him to apply for college. I loved how much these two supported and cheered each other on. It was so nice to see how much they truly cared about each other.

Drew is self-aware about his attraction to men, particularly Holden, and he understands that he needs to take the initiative in their relationship. When they are together, Drew feels an undeniable sense of rightness and fulfillment. On the other hand, Holden wrestles with his own insecurities and past mistakes. He believes he isn't worthy of Drew's affection due to his criminal history, which makes him hesitant to pursue a romantic relationship. Despite his intense desire for Drew, Holden fears that his complicated past and familial issues could ultimately hurt Drew, something he is determined to avoid at all costs. The attraction between these two is seen from the beginning to end, overall it's a great book and I enjoyed it.
The second of the Something series, I do suggest reading the first story just so you get the whole back story on certain situations. In Something New we saw the attraction between Drew and Holden, but Drew was only seventeen. Don't worry, this book is set a few years after book one, so Drew is twenty now and it's only a five year gap. Both Drew and Holden are a bit broken by their pasts and watching them figure things out and overcome themselves was a bit inspiring. We get some really great drama, a few cute moments, and some nicely done spicy moments. I give this 4 stars.
This is the second book in this series, and this is Drew and Holden’s story. Drew works for Holden’s grandma in her hardware story, and he knows what he wants and that is Holden. Holden is an ex-con and does not feel he is good enough for anyone. These two are both broken by their pasts, but will Drew convince Holden he is the one for him? This is a good story which has family, friendships, emotions, drama, angst, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, personal growth, and love, which leads to an enjoyable and steamy page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Something Right’ was my first read by author Shaniel Watson, and the second book in a series. It read well as a standalone but I need to go back and read book 1.
This is Drew and Holden’s steamy story. Drew is a gamer who has been crushing on Holden for some time. Holden is an ex-con that works in the family hardware store by day and plays in a band by night.
When Drew starts working at the store his feelings for Holden get stronger. Holden is full of reasons why they shouldn’t hook up, age, criminal record, their siblings are engaged, but Drew won’t accept No for an answer.
There’s a little drama but in general it’s a realistic, believable story of two men that fall for each other.
This is a hard read, then it isn't. Holden, is an ex con and has lowered his life expectations. He is dragging a bit of baggage and doesn’t think he's worthy of Drew. Drew looks at Holden and sees his 'one'. He knows he will have to approach Holden first, but he is ready. He is fun, caring and persistent. Drew has to do his work to get his man. Holden makes Drew work, not as a power play, but because he thinks Drew can do better. The author does a good job giving us circumstances that grab us by the heart and holds on before letting us go to a steady beat. Nice story, good flow. Great characters. Sweet cover art. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Somehow, I did not realize Drew was going to be only 19 in this story! You can read this as a standalone romance, but it seems that one would get to know Drew and Holden's connection in the first book of the series. Holden is kind of young himself around 24. He has a lot of hang ups with being intimate with Drew. First the age difference from knowing Drew when he was really young and then the fact that Holden genuinely does not think he is worthy. Drew was a persistent young thing, and it turns out he needed to be! I was very happy when these two young guys opened up and got it together.
“But if I’m going to come over here more, we need to fix this place up. I have plans for you.” He smiles brightly and brushes my hair back out of my face.
I enjoyed this book. I liked both Drew and Holden. Their journey to a happy ending took work and time and some issues to face. I thought the two of them had great chemistry and I was curious how things would work out since Drew's sister and Holden's brother are engaged. This is the first book I've read by this author and I would read more. 4 stars
This is a great second book ln this series. A well written sweet, low-angst storyline that had great characters. Both Drew and Holden have had alot of issues in their past which have left a mark but their undeniable attraction for each other gives them a starting point to overcome these and move forward. I thoroughly enjoyed following their journey to their well deserved hea. I received a free arc copy from GRR and this is my honest review.
Such a beautiful story. Holden tries to protect Drew from getting too close. He doesn't think he's good enough or maybe it that he thinks he not enough. His father has a lot to do with how he feels about himself. Drew isn't interested in anything but making Holden believe he is everything he wants and needs. He soon finds out about the saying where eavesdroppers never hear good. It's a really good story for sure!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is the second book in the series but the first book I've read by this author, the first book is mf and I only read mm though I feel like it might have been better if I had read it. This is a grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, angsty read about Drew and Holden. It has wonderful characters and a storyline that will keep your attention from start to finish.
Good shi--stuff, pet the giraffe, sis-smother, bro-fmother, redheaded troll
This is a pleasant book. It ticks all the right boxes for a rom-com. The characters are well-developed and likeable. The storyline is standard; the spicy scenes are mild. But it's distracting to have so many typos and usage errors. It detracts from the flow of the story and reading.
I just loved Something Right by Shaniel Watson. Wonderful story, and super engaging characters from the very beginning until the end. Drew and Holden's story was sweet, romantic, angsty and filled with witty dialogue and all the feels throughout this story! I read an advanced copy of this story and this is my unbiased review! I loved it!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed the story, Drew and Holden are both a bit broken and neither think themselves good enough for a relationship especially Holden and he thinks that the five year age gap is to much but eventually they get there and we get a sweet Hea. Good read.
Sweet story, some spice but I felt like something was missing. This is my first read from this author and it could possibly be the writing style that I'm not used to. I would give them another try. Over all this a nice read.
* o received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
I fell for both of these guys immediately. Drew with his frustration and armor of defiance while underneath a man who steps up to the plate and takes care of those in his charge and Holden wanting what he believes he can't have. It was painful at times but also wonderful to see them finding their way to each other and letting down their guard to show their real selves.
I liked this book. The storyline was good and held my attention. The characters were absolutely fantastic together. I found myself rooting g and yelling for them thruout the book. This was such a great read and I highly recommend this book.
He knows what he wants and he wants them so much. He has been wanting them for some time and he wonders if he will ever get them. They may just take that step with him. Will it go well? Will it be a long lasting link? Can they be a couple? See how they get on
Drew and Holden, a sweet friends to lovers romance. The couple is so sweet, even when Holden sabotages the relationship thinking he’ll hurf Drew. I liked that Drew never gives up and they take their sweetness to another level.
Drew knows he likes men, and he knows he wants to make money playing video games, but neither of these things seem to be working out like he had hoped. Having struggled most of his life just to keep himself and his siblings together, at 18, he is filled with anger and arrogance that he is happy to use whenever it suits him. You will always know what he thinks, good or bad. Holden notices him right away when he finds the little brother of his brother’s fiancée working at the family hardware store. The cute guy is too young and too close to being family for him to mess with him. Best laid plans all that, Drew is persistent and manages to chip away at Holden’s resolve.
OPINION: This is such a lovely story of two screwed-up guys finding solace in each other. Neither man can see their worth, but somehow, the other does. They build each other up, trust each other, and fall for each other. Even though Holden feels the five years between them is too much of an age gap, Drew doesn't let that stop him from getting what he wants, but in the process of getting in Holden’s pants, he wiggles his way into his heart, too. There were a lot of emotions when they ran into some bumps; I felt anguish and hurt for them. This was written well, and I had to grab my tissue. The spicy scenes were written so reverently, feeling the kindness during the first time or the need to try not to make their moments become more than fun. I enjoyed the book. Pick it up if you are looking for a couple of broken men trying to figure out themselves while finding each other.
