I read Rebecca's Numbers Game awhile ago and was delighted that she continued with a story that takes place a couple generations later. Numbers Ascending is the story of Legacy Hawking, the granddaughter of Treena Hawking, the main heroine in the first Saga. While Numbers Ascending is a standalone story, it is nice to see what happened to Treena, Vance, and all the struggles they went through to form a new world of sorts.
In Numbers Ascending, we follow the life of Legacy, a freshly, graduated from college 18 year old who is trying to make a path in her own future. Striving to prove herself on her own accord, her past and present are still at cross with each other. With an overbearing father, who is the leader of the new order, and a brother who has drifted apart from her, Legacy seeks to find a balance somewhere. But always lingering in her mind are doubts of her mother's death and whether she should continue with her mother's path before her death or fall in line like a good little girl to her father's wishes.
Numbers Ascending gripped me from the beginning, with a very steady pacing that led me from each point to another. I truly appreciate an author who does plot pacing very well and Rebecca has excelled again with Numbers Ascending.
In Numbers Ascending there is inevitably a reluctant hero and a plot so twisted that I'm desperately waiting for book 2. You can't help but root for Legacy and her friends although there were some incidences that made me wonder who could really be trusted. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there are some instances in the story that had me flipping the pages so quickly on my tablet while biting my nails at the same time!
There are mystery and family issues. And there is most definitely a conflicted hero who has to choose his own path. There is a slow burn romance to the story but not one that makes you roll your eyes at the cliche. I particularly wanted to know what happened years before with Kole, Legacy, and their friend Milian.
Numbers Ascending is a wonderful read. Again, great pacing, steady plotlines, and characters that you either root for or wish they'd fall off a cliff.
Thanks Rebecca for the chance to read your new series!
