Rate this book
The past comes rushing back at the sound of his voice…my brother's best friend and my new next door neighbor. Lane Kincaid was my secret crush for as long as I can remember.
He’s also the one I had every intention of avoiding when I came home. But fate had different plans,
I got into a car accident,
And he’s the first person to come to my rescue. As my gaze collides with his all thoughts flee.
My icy indifference begins to thaw. He’s even more handsome than I remember.
But I must stay away
He shattered my heart. Each interaction weakens my resolve,
And puts a dent in my protective armor. There are times when he looks at me and my breath catches.
I can’t help but wonder if he feels the same. Now I’m being rescued by my brother’s best friend in more ways than I ever dared to dream. ***This is a sweet and swoony, small town, friends to lovers romance. Eh… this book was just like wayyy too short and everything was too fast. I feel like if she would have made it longer and changed a few things this book could have been better. It was good for something reallyyy fast which is what I wanted but just wasn’t really it.

Emma and Lane’s Story . . .

This was a delightful read. The world-building was done well, the characters were likable and engaging, and the story line well-paced. Emma returns home and sees her crush, Lane Kincaid. He and her brother have started a business with a focus on veterans. Lane had held back on his feelings for Emma because of his friendship with her brother. Is he ready to tell her how he really feels? Will the two of them decide they were meant to be together? And as for threatening his friendship with Kieran, if their friendship is strong, it is not going to fracture because he falls in love with Kieran’s sister. They deserve the happiness they have both dreamed of and waited for. Will they find it?

4.5 stars (rounded up) 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

"She is so adorable today I want to grab her and kiss her. Her t-shirt reads: Don't make me mad; I might plot and get away with your murder in my next book."

What an absolutely adorable, short, sweet romance! I loved it so much!

I found myself into the book right from the beginning until the end.

The characters were so relatable, funny, deep, and sweet. The slow burn was 🔥 and the banter was spot on.

You get:
• Brother’s Best Friend
• Childhood Friends to Lovers
• Author FMC
• Firefighter/Billionaire MMC
• Amazing banter

I can't wait to continue on with this series! You can pick it up on KU!

"Emma is the only woman in my league with all the attributes I care about, and based on that clip from her book, hope is alive and well that I can win her over. I'll give her time to reflect, and then I'm going to wage a campaign to take her heart - and this time, never let her out of my sight again."

Needs someone to proofread. Seems incomplete in parts. Did not understand why she was so upset with not being told. Lacking!

This is a super cute romcom. Emma is an author who moves back to her childhood home. Upon entering town she gets into a Crash that leaves her leg broken. Who is there to save the day…. Her childhood crush and brother’s best friend.. but he and her brother are keeping a big secret. When she finds out she writes them off until she can’t any longer.

I am excited to read the Kieran’s story in the next book.

I love a good short novel but I wish this story was drawn out and longer. The story was great! I just want to read more of the story of Lane and Emma. Hopefully there’s some glimpses in the second book of the two and how they ended up.

Kisses only.

This a quick read. Brother’s best friend one of my least favorite tropes but I needed something to read. I hate how in the trope they’ll either deny their love because they don’t want to mess up a friendship or they sneak behind the brother’s back. In this one the MCs are still into each other after eight years of not seeing one another! Also I didn’t understand why Emma was so upset with the boys.

Abby Greyson's short story, "Rescued by My Brother's Best Friend", is a light-hearted yet touching story that captivated me from the first moment. I listened to the book as an audiobook narrated by Lexi Evans and Lucas Dixon, and the experience was even more special because of the narration – the characters' emotions were conveyed brilliantly, and the immersion in the story was enhanced by the performances of the two talented narrators. The only minor problem for me was that the male characters, Lane and Kieran, sometimes blended together in Lucas Dixon's interpretation, but this did not detract significantly from the experience.

The story is about the relationship between two old friends, Emma and Lane, who have practically grown up together, as Emma's brother Kieran and Lane have been best friends since childhood. But life took them far apart when Emma left the small town to pursue her writing dreams in the big city, while Lane and Kieran became successful businessmen in their hometown.

However, when Emma returns to the city years later as a successful writer, she has no idea that her brother and his best friend have become millionaires. But this only causes conflict later on, because the novel opens with a car accident. Emma's return home is not exactly as she had planned, not expecting to see her childhood crush for the first time when he has to rescue her as a volunteer fireman from her car after an accident.

The author's style is charming, her characters likeable, and although the shortness of the story meant that it moved perhaps faster than I expected, the chemistry and humour between the main characters was still effective. There were times when I felt I would have liked to see more in-depth character development and would have liked to spend more time with the characters. At the same time, Abby Greyson is a master of leaving an emotional mark on her readers even in shorter form, and the romance story is both sweet and heartbreaking, as we have come to expect from her.

Ultimately, "Rescued by My Brother's Best Friend" is a heart-warming story, full of humour and emotion, which I recommend to those who like light, romantic novels but also crave a little emotional depth. This short story is the first in the "Briar Glen Romantic Comedies" series, and provides a great setting for the rest of the stories in this charming, small-town world.

Rescued By My Brother's Best Friend, Book 1 of a duet, was about 26-year-old Emma Mitchell (the last name wasn't given in this story, but it was given for her brother in his book), an author, and 33-year-old Lane Kincaid the CEO and co-owner of Battleborn Tech.
Emma and Lane had known each other for most of their lives. When she was 18 (he was 23 or 24), she attempted to kiss him, only to be rejected by him. It took 8 years before they saw each other again.
She was returning home when she was involved in an accident that put her in the hospital for a couple of days and went through surgery to repair the damage done to her leg. Two of the men who rescued her were her brother and his BFF, Lane, as they were both volunteer firemen.
As she began her recovery, both her brother and Lane put in a constant appearance in her home, with Lane doing everything he could to renew their fractured friendship. But Emma struggled to hide her feelings for him as she didn't want to endure a second rejection.
This story had more than its fair share of angst and drama, but what I didn't understand is why the FMC was so angry with the MMC and her brother over theme not telling her how well they had done in business. IMHO, she took her hurt too far, but then that was truly the only conflict of the story, so I guess it needed it to gel right.
It was a decent story that needed an epilogue and a bit more interaction between the two main characters. As it stands, I could only give the book a three-star rating, as it lacked a lot of information and interaction with the main characters.

Rescued by My Brother’s Best Friend by Abby Greyson is a sweet, kisses only contemporary romance novella about Emma, a woman who returns to her small hometown after years away only to run into her childhood crush and her brother’s best friend, Lane Kincaid, when he literally rescues her from a car accident as she’s moving back home. What begins as avoidance and tentative civility slowly turns into a friends‑to‑lovers second‑chance romance when they realize the feelings they never acted on before have never really gone away.

Right from the start this story made me feel swept up in that heady mix of nostalgia, awkward tension and that fluttery warmth of “maybe this was meant to be.” Emma’s nervous anticipation about seeing Lane again and her instinct to guard her heart felt so real: here is someone who once shattered her heart and now is sudden proof that people change, grow and might just love differently the second time around. Lane’s presence is steady, reassuring and quietly passionate, and I loved how his protective instincts, both during her accident and as they reconnect, created that cozy sense of safety and possibility that’s so satisfying in small‑town romance.

I loved how the novella captures longing and second chances without needing dramatic twists: it’s about childhood connections, unspoken affection, and the courage to let someone back into your life when you’ve tried to move on. The closed‑door, clean style kept the focus on emotional intimacy, and while the story moves briskly (it’s only about 90 pages), there’s a sincere sweetness to Emma and Lane’s banter and growing trust that left me smiling.

I give Rescued by My Brother’s Best Friend 4 out of 5 stars. It made me feel warm‑hearted, hopeful and genuinely invested in Emma and Lane’s journey from old crush to rediscovered love, and its charming, small‑town atmosphere and tender character growth make it a delightful, cozy romance pick especially if you love second‑chance friends‑to‑lovers stories with sweetness and sincerity at the center.

Rescued by my Brother’s Best Friend: A Sweet Second Chance Romantic Comedy by Abby Greyson.

The first entry in the Briar Glen Romantic Comedies series offers readers a charming escape into a story of rekindled love and second chances.

As a novella, the book delivers a compact yet heartwarming tale that explores the themes of love lost and found. The narrative centres on Emma, who upon returning to her hometown, wishes to avoid Lane Kincaid, her long-standing secret crush and her brother’s best friend.

Fate, however, has other plans, drawing them together in unexpected ways.

Greyson employs the small-town setting to weave a narrative that’s both sweet and humorous, capturing the essence of a friends-to-lovers romantic comedy.

The story’s pacing is well-managed, considering the novella format, which limits the depth of plot development.

While the book’s brevity may leave readers wanting more, it delivers a satisfying narrative arc that culminates in a hopeful and uplifting conclusion.

In summary, “Rescued by my Brother’s Best Friend” is perfect for readers seeking a quick, feel-good read.

Abby Greyson delivers a narrative that is both light-hearted and resonant, making it easy to root for Emma and Lane’s happily ever after.

Love Story Core Elements Lacking

Audiobook Review:
I've listened to one other rom-com audiobook by this author, and I enjoyed that one. So when I saw this one at the same book review site, I thought I would check it out, looking forward to another pleasant listen. Unfortunately, this under-2-hour audiobook did not impress me as much as the first one. It felt rushed, the separating conflict towards the end didn't quite seem to merit the response (though it should have opened a discussion about honesty, secrets, and expectations in the future), and the end was super abrupt. After the all-is-lost moment and the ensuing separation, they declared their mutual love for each other, and BOOM, the book ended. Literally, a few lines, and it was over. I didn't feel there was a proper showing of how these two had come to feel so much for each other over the years (while denying it to themselves and the outside world). Essentially, the core elements of a well-written romantic story were just missing, implausible, or rushed. While I would check out other books by this author, I wouldn't have quite the warm, hopeful feeling looking forward to a satisfying read as I did going into this one.

I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

Audiobook Review
Emma and Lane’s story is all the sweet small-town romance vibes wrapped up in one quick, heart-fluttering package. This one is a cozy, "kisses-only" romance, so it’s got all the sweetness and tension without anything too spicy. And Lane? Well, he’s got that perfect blend of swoony and steadfast, which makes you root for him from the start. I mean, who doesn’t love a secret crush-next-door plot, especially with a few funny and heartfelt twists?

The narration by Lexi Evans and Lucas Dixon definitely added some magic to this story. Lexi nailed Emma’s voice, capturing that mix of vulnerability and strength as Emma comes face-to-face with her past. Lucas did a solid job with Lane, though at times, he could have differentiated Lane from other male voices a bit more clearly. Still, they both brought enough charm that I could easily sink into the story.

Would I recommend it? For sure! If you love a feel-good, sweet romance with that perfect second-chance spark, Rescued by My Brother’s Best Friend delivers. It’s ideal for anyone who wants a break from intense angst or steamy reads and is looking for a lighthearted love story with just the right amount of drama and humor.

Emma's had a crush on her brother's Best friend, Lane and eight years later returns home still with feelings for him. Lane loves Emma but due to his best friend and business partner has not acted on his feelings. Kieran, Emma's brother has been protective of his sister and still is not revealing how sucess his business is from his sister but does not directly reveal how he would be if Lane and Emma had feelings for each other, just asks indirect questions 🤦‍♀️. Lane and Emma would be a great couple but the uncertainty with Emma feeling not worthy of Lane after reading an article about Lane and Kieran, Kieran not revealing his support or lack thereof or being oblivious and Lane not revealing his feelings to Emma but giving her space 🤦‍♀️. I kept reading as a free book and wanting to know how it ends and had enjoyed Accidentally Fake in Love with My Best Friend's Brother. Love Emma and Kieran's mother especially with her straight talking conversation with Emma, wish she had featured more in the story.

love the visual of this torture gamer creator , Lane - "I cannot keep up trying to work and go about my day when all I want to do is throw myself on my sword and beg for any punishment if only it means she will allow me back into her presence."

Great ending!

My brother’s best friend was never this guy! Emma is 8 years younger than her brother kieran & his best friend Lane who run a very successful business together. Emma lives in New York city at a distance Fran the boys & hadn’t been back in 8 years. She is a grownup struggling writer who was formerly a little geeky & relied upon her brother & Lane to look out for her. Emma crashes on a snowy road when she avoids another motorist to only crash into a tree. Resulting in a broken leg , her plans to resume living in Briar Glen but will need someone to help care for her in her injured state. There are only a few hiccups to get over to begin with but once the hiccups start will they ever stop. More secrets are revealed as the story progresses and since I’m done with this one I gotta start with the next!

I have positive and negative things to say about this book. Yes its cute cover I love that but it started out so fast and that was kinda okay but it made it hard because later in the book there was not really a good solid backstory besides a few things like they grew up in highschool together and she got picked on. But beyond that it was just little things here and there. I needed more substance. I needed more depth of the characters and details. I feel like it was rushed in parts and especially the ending like omg! The back and forth of them both wanting but nothing was kinda aggravating the way it was drawn out but kind of not at the same time. I feel like it needed to be longer book than 96 pages! The story could of been way more exciting if the parts they needed each other had the suspence and thrill to it. Overall it was okay for a 96 page book.

The Right Time for Their Forever -
Emma and Lane had kept their feelings in check by avoiding each other for years, but fate had plans in store for them, as they met again when Lane had£ to rescue Emma. They tried to maintain a platonic relationship because of Emma’s brother, but they couldn’t hold back for long. Unfortunately, their budding romance was derailed when Emma discovered a secret about Lane, but he was able to convince her to give them a chance at the happiness they wanted together. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I can confirm it is a great book to curl up with before bedtime.

This was such a cute book. It was only about an hour and a half long and I enjoyed both narrators well enough.

Coming home after being away for the last 8 years, getting into a car accident right away wasn't how Emma was planning it happening. Especially since Lane was part of the rescuing party. Emma had a crush on Lane for years and it was one of the main reasons she stayed away. Now, she was home and injured, and Lane stepped up to help.

I liked the character development, even though it was quick. I would love to read more about these two and Emma's brother, in a different book.

This was a closed door, HEA romance. I will recommend it to all who like that style.

Rescued by my Brother’s Best Friend by Abby Greyson is a cute fluffy rom-com novella that is great for a pallet cleanser or anytime you need/want something light hearted. The pacing of the novella dragged a bit providing a ton of information. At the beginning of the novella there was action and excitement. Then as the story progressed, it dove into both the backstory and present in a dual POV style. I got to learn so much about the FMC, the MMC, and several secondary characters as well as their histories and motivations. The are several other parallel novellas, so the background information may be relevant to the subsequent stories. If you enjoy short fluffy rom-coms that are spice free, this is the perfect book for you.

Emma has loved Lane for years but after a disastrous kiss she avoided him for the next 8 years!
Their relationship was a non-starter when she finds that her brother and Lane didn’t really tell her how well they were doing in their business. The story describes well the hurt that Emma was feeling as the lie by omission.
Enough’s enough though as far as Lane is concerned and he eventually confesses his love.
A HEA ensures with the promised that the next story will be about her brother Kieran. I can’t wait to read it!.

- Quick read

This short story, part of a duet, is full of pining, which I love!

Emma has been in love with her brother's best friend, Lane, for years, but after a failed attempt to kiss him, Emma does her best to forget about Lane.

Fast forward several years. Abby is involved in a car accident and Lane is a responder to the scene. While Emma is recovering, Lane decides to try to rekindle their relationship, as he was in love with Emma all along, but stayed away because of her brother.

Has too much time passed for Lane to have a chance with her?.

I realize that this is a short story, but to me the ending felt very rushed and that is why I am giving it only four stars. Everything seemed to be moving at a nice place and then all of a sudden, the book ended. A girl returns to her hometown after being gone for ten years. She didn't mean to start her return with a car wreck nor with her brother and his friend rescuing her. She has loved the friend for years but is convinced he doesn't have the same feelings. Things take a turn when some secrets are revealed but you will have to read to see if that is good or bad.
