RUNNING SCARED...

Linn Stevens and five-year-old Nathan had fled to an isolated British Columbia beach, where she was determined to play out her role in a deadly charade--and protect the little boy who'd been entrusted to her care. Then rugged espionage author Trey Hollister appeared on the scene, seducing her with his bold sensuality. Yet even as desire flared into love, she dared not reveal who she really was.

For days Trey had been secretly watching over woman and child. Elusive as sea mist, raven-haired Linn aroused him as no woman had before. And now she needed him--more desperately than ever.

Would she let down her guard and open her arms--to his loving safekeeping?

I am always delighted when I discover nice oldies because not only do they have different story-lines but they also offer something that I don't always find in new books. I really liked the heroine in this one she was spunky, smart and unafraid. She runs into the hero when he saves her from being assaulted at the beach. The heroine is hiding with her nephew until her brother-in-law, a cop testifies against a drug lord. She isn't appreciative at first with the hero's and his dog's presence in their life, she is focused on survival, plus the hero awakens feeling she hasn't felt since her husband passed fours years back (after a 2 and a half year battle to survive). The hero is a vet of the Vietnam war, a successful author and security expert whose life never had any familial security unlike the heroine's. His wife left him taking his son away after he came back from the war so he doesn't understand or believe in love. Both of them have this insane chemistry and the first love scene between them is really hot. The hero is this really great protective guy but the heroine is no damsel in distress. I loved when the heroine's sister and brother-in-law come back and the last scene when the hero finally faces his feelings was hilarious, with her father beating down the door. This was a nice one.

I read this as part of the Outlaws and Lovers omnibus.

In Safekeeping is one of the best romantic suspense books I've ever read, even after 25+ years. I will never forget "Trey Hollister, Man of Action" (the hero), nor will I forget Linn Stevens (the heroine). To this day they stand as role models, not just as characters in a book, but in real life. Naomi Horton has penned an incredible tale of love and suspense, and In Safekeeping will remain forever on my keeper shelf.
