I'm finding myself comparing a lot of books to movies lately and this one reminds me of Cobra starring none other than Sylvester Stallone
Once a year a cult in southern California, kidnaps, brands, and tortures a young college age woman, before branding, killing, and discarding their dead body.... Overworked and over stressed Detective Ray Collins has been working this case for over 10 years and is haunted by nightmares of a past he can't remember. Are the nightmares and kidnappings related?
The story was almost right out of the head lines about cults and crazy people who think they are gods. It made cold chills run down my back. Knowing that this is really happening in the world.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best psychological thrillers that I have read in a very long time. The characters were well-defined, and believable! David Silver is a very talented author who will have my attention as long as he continues to write! Great book! I rarely give 5 stars to authors. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, and assure you that you will love this book!
"The world is being blackmailed, my friends! Debts, many debts, piled upon each other, one after another. Lives torn apart, marriages torn apart, families torn apart. So-called civilization compromises the individual and blackmails him or her, forcing drugs on the individual, money on the individual, fear, and desire on the individual. (152)
If you love dark and brutal captivity thrillers, here’s your next read! Oof! Enjoyed this one.
Amanda Reeves has been kidnapped in broad daylight and taken to an underground makeshift prison in the middle of nowhere, where escape seems almost impossible. The dread and despair hit almost immediately but she has to keep her wits. She sees two men and two women. Her abductors. This is a nightmare she has no idea how to escape.
But Amanda isn’t going down without a fight. She’s smart, observant, and has a sense of humor that will help in her darkest times. She knows that if she wants to survive, she needs to keep her cool. She will bide her time. She will watch. She will listen. She will learn. And she will endure. They will NOT win this sick game of theirs. She refuses to become their next victim.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating a disturbing pattern of murders. All the victims are held captive for nine days before their bodies are dumped in public streets. Each bearing similar markings - stigmata - and the evidence suggests something more sinister than just your average serial killer is responsible. Is this the work of the Nightshade Killer, or is there something more ritualistic going on?
They have one clue - a strange coin-like medallion that will hopefully lead them to whoever is responsible. But the days are counting down, and they still haven’t found Amanda. They’re running out of time, and they know exactly what happens when those nine days are up.
Oof! This was a dark and brutal read!
One of the things that stood out to me was Amanda’s character. She’s not someone who is willing to just sit around waiting to be rescued. She’s constantly studying her surroundings, clocking everything, mentally documenting everything from the people holding her captive to the smallest details of where she’s being kept. She’s determined to survive, even when the odds are stacked against her. Escape is always in the forefront of her brain.
While I really enjoyed this story, I wish Silver had spent more time developing the day-to-day reality of Amanda’s captivity. Don’t get me wrong here, because he definitely does give us those moments, I just wanted MOREEEE. The book alternates between Amanda’s perspective and the detectives investigating her disappearance, and I felt like more effort went into developing the detective’s past and current personal life - which, frankly, I didn’t really care for. But it is a series based around the lead detective so I get it.
Still, I wanted more of Amanda. More of the psychological warfare, the survival instincts, the calculated decisions, and the suffocating reality of being held captive by people who have no intention of letting you go.
That being said, No Way Out by David Silver was still an awesome and dark read. It’s disturbing, unsettling, and has that ticking-clock element that makes your anxiety spike. If you enjoy kidnapping thrillers with sadistic captors, psychological manipulation, and a victim determined to outsmart the people holding her, this one is worth picking up!
Lots of triggers - it’s a sick and twisted family that has kidnapped her and they have the most disturbing beliefs.
When I clicked on this book and read the blurb, this was definitely not what I was expecting. It changed between the point of views of Ray and Amanda until a certain point. There was times when I was screaming at the book and times when I wanted to cry. The plot was good. I will definitely will be continuing the series.
I was very impressed with his writing and ordered book 2 when I was going to order J.PATTERSONS new book since ive read almost all of his mystery books but D.Silver captured my intnerest .Ill still be ordering Pattersons new one with Lupica,
I struggled with thus book at first. I tend to read romance suspense type books. I don't want to give away the book but it definitely had the twist and turns u like in the books I read. While a was particularly happy with the ending I would have liked for additional happy parts. This was still an amazing story and I really look forward to more from this author.
This is the first book that I have read from this author. Quick paced thriller from the first page. Set in Los Angeles with Ray Collins, a detective at LAPD, as the central character the story is about a clan engaged in nefarious activities— kidnapping young women, raping them, and killing them as offering to God. Was quite gory in a number of places.
I thought the story was over when the girl escaped from the underground. But no, that was just the key to the rest of this book. I thought it was the usual detective story where all ends well. Ray will have adventures ahead with his partner and the baggage he caries.
If you love edge of your seat, can't wait to turn the next page thrillers, this is a book you simply must not miss.
Detective Ray Collins has been trying to solve a bizarre case....for many years. A woman has disappeared every year for 13 years only to show up dead. The victim is kidnapped, tortured and killed....all in a 9 day time span. The killer becomes known at the Night Shade Killer.
Collins is also fighting demons of his own. He doesn't know his background and is tormented with nightmares. He is a loner so really doesn't have any friends. Can he solve this case after so many years and can he finally put his demons to rest?
A book of twists and turns. An incredible, well-down job by the author of drawing you in and keeping you intrigued and wanting to turn the pages. I highly recommend.
What an edge of your seat story. Of course, I had to stay up all night to read. Could not put it down. A kidnapped girl. Confined to a buried railcar. Taken out only to be humiliated and tortured. Amanda was such a strong and amazing girl. She escapes. But that's not the end of the story. Detective Ray has personal stakes in this serial killer. He must be stopped. Well written. Well told. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It’s ok , kind of juvenile. Most of the characters act literally stupid in a lot of situations. Unneeded information is added randomly throughout the story. I skipped a lot because it wasn’t very interesting
This was a good read hat a little unsettling. Unsettling to think that cults of this sort might actually be out and around doing pretty much the same heinous acts.
The beginning was hard to get into & had some parts that weren’t possible in reality, however it ended up being a good book the further I read. Will read the rest in the series.
wow! Wie gut war das bitte? Klare Empfehlung, ich kannte den Autor nicht aber habe sofort seine anderen Bücher auf meine wtr Liste gesetzt! Bin begeistert, alles perfekt!
