Suzanne Simonetti has written a heartwarming tale about a fractured family experiencing togetherness and set it in a charming city that finds itself playing host to the 58th annual West Cape May Community Christmas Parade.

Cape May is a real place - it’s located at the southern tip of Cape May Peninsula in New Jersey and home to the author. You don’t need to read too far into this holiday novel to see why Cape May became known as America’s first seaside resort. Furthermore, the author refers to actual stores and restaurants in her book, and the curious amongst us can find them (1) listed at the back of the book with internet links and (2) on the author’s website. I loved having a visual in my mind prior to reading.

Rita and Charles Abernathy live in a 150-year-old Victorian home and dream of having both their sons and their families home for Christmas. The Abernathys have a long-standing tradition of Christmas in this quaint ocean-side locale, but togetherness doesn’t seem like a possibility this Christmas (the first in their new heritage home) because of disharmony. As you’d expect, Christmas magic wraps around this town and softens the hearts of those needing some seasonal spirit. Yes, it’s a HEA, but the road there is where Simonetti weaves her magic. She'll have the biggest Grinch among us believing that holiday wishes do come true!

I loved being transported to this endearing setting, experiencing the comforting charm, and seeing Christmas through the eyes of those who make Cape May their home.

I was gifted this copy by SS Productions and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Suzanne Simonetti knows how to create some Christmas spirit (even in September for this Southern Californian reader) as she chronicles one holiday season of the Abernathy family. Matriarch Rita Abernathy is finally living in her dream house, a one-hundred-and-fifty-year-old Victorian home in the historic district of Cape May, New Jersey, America's oldest seaside resort town. She can't wait to get her family together around the Christmas tree but her two adult sons have grown apart.

Chase is single, charismatic, and on the road all the time, blogging about his travels. Paul is grumpy, worried about losing his job, and saddled with responsibilities he's beginning to resent. The two men can hardly stand to be in the same room together. The women in Simonetti's story come to the rescue. No spoilers from me, but Rita, her daughter-in-law, her six-year-old granddaughter, and Patti Kelley, the local pastry chef have some Christmas magic up their sleeves that brings the family together.

Cape May has the second-largest collection of Victorian houses in the United States, behind San Francisco. Simonetti beautifully describes this enchanting town as she did her in her award-winning best-selling first novel, "The Sound of Wings." Her Cape May Christmas novella also serves a guide to the restaurants, bakeries, lodging, shopping, arts, culture, and inhabitants of what sounds like a truly charming place to live, especially at Christmas.

If you're spending the holidays in Cape May, pick up a copy. If you're not spending the holidays there, you'll start making travel plans after reading this book. I was lucky to read an advanced reader copy.

Follow the Abernathy family at Christmas as they buy a home, mend fences and celebrate Christmas.

Just a feel good story centered around family, love and Christmas. Perfect gift for someone who loves a wholesome story with no spice but leaves you believing in love and going home for Christmas. Story takes place in beautiful Cape May, NJ, a favorite family vacation spot of mine when my kids were younger. If you ever get the chance, do visit it at Christmas time, it’s magical. Book is a loving tribute to this seaside community, highlighting many spots. Recipes given are a plus! Gorgeous cover. This would make a perfect remembrance of your trip.

Thanks to SS Productions and NetGalley for this ARC. This is my honest opinion.

Suzanne Simonetti has done it again! I was so excited to read "A Cape May Christmas Story," because her debut novel, "The Sound of Wings," was one of my favorite books. Suzanne's writing has a way of transporting you to Cape May, a place I haven't yet visited, but after reading her magical stories, I can't wait to go there. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of "A Cape May Christmas Story," and I had to read it in one day. It drew me in from the first page, and I fell in love with the Abernathys. I'm not normally one who reads Xmas stories, but this book was far more than a Christmas story. The relationship between the Abernathy brothers was so realistic (I have two sons) and the way their mother feels about each one of them touched me. These characters are so realistic, that you find yourself happy, sad and frustrated for and with them when things happen. This holiday, and any day before or after, pick up this book and be entertained, touched and fall in love. I will read it over and over again.

Thank you to my partner, Suzy Approved Book Tours, and the author. I appreciate the gifted and signed paperback, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!

1. 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 - It’s no wonder that Rita dreamed of living in Cape May. There is just something about a small town that makes the community one big family.

2. 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 - It seems almost a fact of life that something will cause strife within families along the way. It all depends on how it is handled on whether or not it can be healed. We see the ups and downs within the Abernathy family.

3. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 - The stressors of daily life are ever-present within this story. It makes it much easier to relate to the storyline when you can feel the burdens.

4. 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 - Along with the community closeness, there is something magical about small towns. And the way that Cape May is portrayed will have you booking a vacation there right away!

5. 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 - Even though this story is short in stature, the magic and love radiating off of the pages more than make up for it. I felt like I got a 400-page novel in the span of 180 pages.

This quick read was my jump start for the holiday season.

It is told in 4 parts, has multiple points of view, and has the timing from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
It is set in the real life town of Cape May, New Jersey. I have never been there but after reading this book which shares all about this small town that does Christmas big I definitely will be going for a visit.

The story is sweet. It’s about an empty nest couple, the Abernathys, that move to Cape May and are celebrating their first Christmas season living there. The Abernathys visited Cape May with their sons all the time when the kids were growing up. Both sons are now grown. The book tells about this family.

The reader also enjoys a point of view from a small business owner named Patti who becomes part of the story.

I love the blending of the fictional which has sibling drama, romance, and a sprinkle of the spirit of the season with the real life Cape May setting.

The book also has some really good recipes and a list of real life Cape May hot spots.

Suzanne Simonetti, the Author of “A Cape May Christmas Story,” has written a magical, delightful, and enchanting fictional novel. I am ready to pack my bags, head to the quaint town of Cape May, and browse the streets with intriguing shops and decorations. I love how Suzanne Simonetti sets the stage for a cozy and friendly visit. The author vividly describes the setting, the excitement, and the colorful and dramatic characters. The characters are complex, complicated, and likable. Some are quirky and flawed, but I would want to be their neighbor. The author has provided a well-written story that has a sensory feel. I can see the beautiful scenery and smell the wonderful baked pastries, cookies, and cake. What is so special is that the author provides a place in this book for some delicious recipes and a list of places in Cape May to visit.

Rita and Charles Abernathy are retired and decided to move to Cape May in an old mansion. Rita loves decorating, and the town holds festivals and holiday walk-throughs. Both of the Abernathys have wonderful memories throughout the year of visiting Cape May. There is a magical essence and feel of living in the town. Their two adult sons are estranged, and their Christmas wish is that both sons communicate and they have a better family relationship. I appreciate the author discussing the importance of family, friends, neighbors, community, communication, love, and hope. I highly recommend this heartfelt and thought-provoking novel.

Book Review:
A Cape May Christmas Story by USA Today bestselling author, Suzanne Simonetti

The heart and soul of the holiday season twinkles and shines and rings its joyful melody as A CAPE MAY CHRISTMAS STORY comes alive with its warmth and small-town charm!

Through the quaint, peaceful, snow-covered streets filled with wonder and a little Christmas magic, The Abernathy Family takes its reader on a heartwarming journey of tradition, new beginnings, love, and their hopes for the future~ but not without its struggles that drift about.

As I turned each page, I felt as if I were unwrapping a treasured gift of comfort that allowed me to relive my own special memories of this
Coastal town, one which I personally and lovingly have called my "home away from home" since I was a child.

Ms. Simonetti has created a delightful treat to include the sights, sounds, and scents of not only a place she holds dear, but treasured by the very characters she has brought to life as well.

A CAPE MAY CHRISTMAS STORY is an inviting, creative narrative, and truly something special you'll want to curl up with and enjoy this season, as well as the next...

I thank Ms. Simonetti for allowing me the opportunity and the pleasure to read and review her newest release which has captured my heart. One I happily and most highly recommend!

“Rita believed the best way to show your love for someone was with the perfect book recommendation.”

I couldn’t agree more! A Cape May Christmas Story is a heartwarming tale of family, friendship, and understanding. Set at the most picturesque place on the Jersey Shore, the descriptive details in the novella are worthy of a Hallmark movie. No, I’m not kidding. The author left no stone unturned, with the story opening at the town’s iconic West Cape May Christmas Parade and taking readers to places like Washington Street Mall, Exit Zero, the Candlelight Walking Tours, and many more.

Even those unfamiliar with the area are given such a vibrant description, they’ll feel like they’re right on the cape. I especially appreciated the author’s list of local businesses at the end of the book, as well as the holiday recipes, and am eager to try my hand in the kitchen with my own “Miles” and “Tamra.”

Now, for the characters. Wow! Rita is the matriarch we all deserve. Strong, yet not overbearing. Chase and Patti are both immediately loveable, while Paul and Shannon round out an equally charming cast of characters reflective of many families. There are secrets (none too heartbreaking). Some miscommunications. But, at the core, the best of intentions.

Christmas magic IS real. I’ll definitely be revisiting this one again later this season.

A Cape May Christmas is my first Holiday Story and it is the perfect book to get you in the holiday spirit. It takes place in Cape May, NJ, which is my favorite beach town. Suzanne shares many of the wonderful traditions and shops of this beautiful town. There is a section at the end of the book with the recipes that are mentioned in the story and also a list of the many wonderful shops.

Rita and Charles Abernathy have purchased their dream home. A 150 year old Victorian House in Cape May. They have made many special memories with their two sons Chase and Paul spending summers and Christmas in this picturesque town.

Chase and Paul are now in their thirty's and are as different as night and day. Chase is a travel blogger who makes friends easily. Paul is a plumber who has been having problems controlling his temper with fear of losing his job. The boys have been estranged for years. Rita's Christmas wish is to bring her son's together again. Can Rita's Christmas Wish come true with the help of her daughter in law and granddaughter? Will the magic of the season bring this family together?

Ms. Simonetti does it again with her charming new book, "A Cape May Christmas Story: A Celebration of Family and Love in America's First Seaside." All Rita wants is her Christmas wish to come true, to see her family gathered together, surrounded by love, in her newly acquired dream Victorian. Unfortunately, some members of her family may not be so willing to play Santa Claus, forcing her to take matters into her own hands. Ms. Simonetti takes you through the dynamics of family, love, discovery and tradition, all set against the backdrop of Cape May, New Jersey, a real life seaside village that gives the fictional Cabot Cove a run for it's money. If you're looking for a quick holiday read, or a sweet story to enjoy any time of the year, this is it! Oh, and if you ever fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Cape May, be sure to have her book handy, it's filled with wonderful eateries and lovely shops to browse. You won't want to leave.

I have never been to Cape May, New Jersey, but I want to go after reading this! The author did a marvelous job of transporting me to this seaside community. And with it being set during the Christmas season - it felt like walking through a Holiday movie - it was so entertaining.

Besides the inviting atmosphere, the story centers around the Abernathys, who retire to Cape May. Their adult sons are estranged, but Rita Abernathy’s wish is for her sons’ reconciliation.
With some help from loved ones and a little Christmas magic, Rita’s wish may come true.

𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 is a delightful holiday novella brimming with family, community, and love. Find a cozy spot and enjoy the sights and sounds (and magic) of Cape May.

Another light yet good Christmas story set in Cape May, New Jersey. The story centers on the Abernathy family. Rita and her newly retired husband have purchased a 150 year old Victorian home in the historic district of Cape May. They have two adult sons: Chase who is very successful, single with a very outgoing personality and Paul, a plumber who is worried about his job security. He has a wife and a 6 year old daughter. Rita has become increasingly concerned about Paul who doesn’t seem happy. She is also concerned that her two sons are not as close as they once were and seem to be drifting further apart. Rita is hoping that having the whole family together for Christmas at her beautifully decorated home will bring her two sons together again. This story has a strong sense of place. (The author lives there!) Cape May sounds like a great place to visit, especially at the Christmas season. Would like to take trip there to see for myself!

I've been to Cape May, New Jersey several times, but never at Christmas. However, after reading Suzanne Simonetti's charming novella, I'm certain I've seen its holiday magic with my own eyes. Her vivid descriptions of the Victorian mansions decked out with lights and garland, the carolers roaming the streets, and the smells of gingerbread and hot cocoa at the Christmas parade made me feel like I was in Santa's village instead of on my sofa. This book could put the grumpiest of Grinches in the Christmas spirit! But even more delightful than all those holiday trappings is the uplifting story of the Abernathys and the reminder that family is what makes the holidays so special. The ultimate feel-good read!

Look no further for an endearing holiday story to fill your soul with the spirit of family, tradition, and love. Simonetti, bestselling author of The Sound of Wings, is back with a novella you’ll devour in one sitting and want to put in the Christmas stockings of everyone you know!
This enchanting story is set in the real town of Cape May, and Simonetti captures the essence of the landmarks, restaurants, and landscape beautifully. You’ll feel like you are there, hugging a mug of Rita’s hot chocolate that will warm your heart as much as your hands.
With her vivid descriptions of Cape May’s Victorian houses, cultural charm, and endearing characters, Simonetti reminds us that the holidays deliver a special kind of magic—if we let them!

A sweet light-hearted glimpse at the Abernathy family as they prepare to celebrate Christmas in “America’s First Seaside Resort,” Cape May, New Jersey. Charles and Rita are thrilled to have their grown sons and families reconnect for the holidays in their Victorian home; mending past hurts and finding new love is on the docket this season.
The book mentions many old and new visitors’ draws, from the small shops and boutiques to the stately hotels and well-known area restaurants, whetting the appetites of seasoned visitors and (hopefully) instilling a curiosity among those who have yet to experience the seaside town.
Enjoy the book, then add Cape May to your travel list!.It is a true piece of Americana, with something for everyone….and made more special during the Christmas season!

heartwarming Christmas Tale about family, coming together and the magic of Christmas set in the beautiful historic district of Cape May New Jersey. The scenery is so well written you'll definitely want to visit Cape May for the food and shopping if you haven't. I loved this wasn't a mushy romance but a great story of family. A couple who buy an old house and the mother who wants to bring together her sons. A feel-good story of family. I really loved the last book The Sound of Wings by this author so I was excited to dive into this and it was everything I expected. This is our December book club selection and it's a great book club pic. I really enjoyed.

The story continues on from the title of the book. There seems to be magic in Cape May, and a wish of having her sons reconnect and get along like they used to this Christmas, would take some magic. Maybe the magic that Cape May has and the magic of Christmas, might just bring the two brothers back together, and let go of what was and discover what will be. You will have to read the book, to find out, but it will keep you reading and make you feel like you are at Cape May. Enjoy!

This was my first read by Suzanne Simonetti and I was not disappointed. With the story taking place in Cape May, NJ and all the places, sites, eateries, etc. she described, it makes you definitely want to visit there. What a wonderful Christmas experience that would be. Rita and Charles Abernathy saw an old Victorian house there for sale, which they ended up buying. Their sons butted heads at times. A story of job frustration, hard workers, family, togetherness, making amends, love and sharing made this a worthwhile read. So be sure to add this book to your TBR list.

I have experienced the fairytale charm of Cape May (though not at Christmas time) and the chocolatey scent of Hershey, PA so I knew I was going to love this book. There is something magical about Cape May and I could feel it through the pages as this family's relationship healed and became whole again. With Suzanne's beautiful words, such an amazing town as the setting, and the season for believing in the goodness of others, is it any wonder that this story will melt your heart and make you believe too??

A quick read story that you wish didn’t end. I love Cape May and spend lots of time in that beautiful beach town. There is nothing like Cape May, I love how Suzanne brings so much of the town, shops, rhythm and pulse of Cape May into the story. I would have loved to see where life took Patti and Chase in the story. Sharing this adorable town with family is exactly what we look forward to. This story did that. I feel like the reader knows the family and is sharing in the holiday festivities with them.

Loved this story about family. Every year Charles and Rita would take their sons on the 90 minutes drive to Cape May for the Thanksgiving weekend festivities. When Charles was a month away from retiring Rita and Charles went to Cape May. There was a Victorian home for sale by owner and they bought it. Rita wanted to have her whole family together and the next year she did. See how this all came about. A VERY GOOD CHRISTMAS READ.

This is the perfect gift book for the holidays. It's got sparkle and wit and heart, and the setting is to die for. It's as warm and cozy as a cup of hot cocoa. Simonetti brings the town of Cape May to vivid life - I definitely want to visit for the holidays. Overall the prose is sharp, the story and characteres charming, and as a bonus, there's a travel guide of sorts tucked in as well as tasty-looking recipes. Loved it and will recommend to friends.
