Greg Damien has quickly risen to the top of his class at Domotraus Academy due to his affinity for Necromancy, but despite binding his classmates’ souls to himself, nothing will be easy when it comes to dark sorcery.
His classmates serve evil entities from the abyss, and his teachers train their pupils to be ruthless and show no mercy. Greg will discover conspiracies, plots, and sinister agendas threatening to destroy the academy from within and without, and the only people he can trust are his soulbound lovers.
If he should show weakness or falter, his enemies will pounce. And death would only be a temporary end to his suffering, because when making pacts with unspeakable demons, death would be only the beginning of his torment.
Greg is the Freshman Class Head, the Dark Mage, and he's trying his best to help his classmates by keeping them alive. He searches for a secret group, made up of past Dark Mages, to help him solve issues he comes up with for his grade year. The students go on a "class trip" and are attacked by a group of Tierra (Earth) Mages. They start out as the stronger force, but in the end get wiped away... After interrogating an attacker they find out that there is a plot in place to attack and Kill all the students of the Academy... more to come in the next books...
It's always fun and intriguing when a story breaks the mold of standard fantasy, and this series is definitely thrilling and hard to stop reading when you start. With twists and turns and revelations, this book has you not wanting to put it down.
Not the usual harem rpg lit book... oh, it has a lot of the standard tropes, but everything is twisted 90 degrees. The characters are enjoyable. The descriptions are great (using them a lot for my Pathfinder game), and the politics are enticing and logical. I am really enjoying this book, and I am more than looking forward to the next one.
I've finished the second book and I am still asking the big questions. Why care about any of the characters? Is there a point to any of these books? The typical magic academy has been done to death, no pun intended.
Interesting watch a "normal" human grow to become what might be one of the most powerful mages ever. Great story so far, and book 3 is already ready on forward we go!
Amusing, gory and full of dark magic variations. Good reading for anyone interested in a university run by a master lich. The students are a bit powerful for just a few weeks into their studies but there is a lot happening quickly.
