G.O.D.S. (2023)

G.O.D.S. (2023-2024) #2

Rate this book
Jonathan Hickman & Valerio Schiti continue to redefine the Marvel Cosmology! The Centum normally has twenty-five Primes, now only three remain. College isn't worth the time or the money. There's a hidden book in the hidden library that hides a hidden door. Kubisk Core is from Georgia, like that matters.

Interesting read! A girl who’s always struggled to fit in realizes there’s much more to life than simple studying, but what does Aika want of her magic? Could’ve used more Wyn in this issue (because I loved him) but this new character was cool!

Hickman described this book as his Sandman, and while there are plenty of surface level similarities, another that is really standing out to me now is the pacing. I haven’t read a book with such a breezy structure as this from the big two in years. It certainly feels more like a Vertigo book. The combination of that pace and the incredible, highly polished artwork Schiti and Gracia is a bit strange though, as I now associate this Marvel house style with big events and over the top action, stuff that Hickman is also known for. It’s truly unique, but I feel like I have to rewrite my brain a little when reading it. I’m no longer used to reading stories like this in single issues.

I’d say I liked this issue more than the first because it spends less time introducing a ton of new characters and concepts, and more time actually laying the groundwork for what the story’s gonna be. Aiko and Mia have a dynamic that could be really fun going forward, with Mia constantly questioning everything Aiko says and her essentially responding every time “You just don’t get it.”

A new journey starts

This book follows two threads- the fallout of Cubisk's scheme from last issue and Aiko recruiting a college student into the Cervitar ranks.

The latter thread was more interesting to me.

I think I preferred the pacing of the first issue but I'm still excited for what's next!

Incredibly boring and cliche. Not even worth 2 stars. I also hate Hickman because of his disgusting FF run, so fuck him too while I have the chance to mutter :D
