Merry Little Heartbreak

Rate this book
This year, they’re unwrapping the truth for Christmas…

Drake Maguire’s first love dumped him right before they were to move cross country for medical school. Now he’s made a name for himself as a plastic surgeon to LA’s wealthiest, even if it bores him. But this Christmas, he returns home to Virginia to pitch in at the same hospital as his ex. Could this be a restart for his career and his heart?

Margo Monroe can’t believe her bad luck. December should be a time to string twinkle lights and stockings in her ER, but instead, she’s dodging Drake’s questions and her urge to run her fingers through his hair. Yes, they broke each other’s hearts last time—yet perhaps throwing in the towel was a mistake.

But flirting leads to more than just words, and Margo needs her head in the game if she wants to expand her career in the new year. Are their emotions merely on call for the holidays, or is this attraction a symptom of something far merrier?

4.5 stars. I think this is my favorite of the series so far! I love a second chance romance!

The hospital setting was amazing. The holiday events made it festive… I want to go to fancy Christmas party now!

Drake and Margo were darling. I love Drake’s determination to spend time with Margo and get to the bottom of why they broke up the first time. But I also appreciate Margo’s caution. It felt realistic.

The ending was so sweet and also made me excited for more books… several characters were introduced that could have really fun future books!

Thank you Stella for the chance to read an advanced copy.

A New Beginning ? . . .

Drake Maguire and Margo Monroe had big plans together. They were both going to attend UCLA medical school. But she changed her mind. Instead of talking to each other about the reasons for this, each blamed the other. Drake figured Margo’s refusal meant she did not love him anymore. And she was convinced he chose UCLA over his love for her. Neither of them was correct.

But 10 years went by until the now famous Dr. Drake Maguire returned to Virginia to work for a week at Mercy Hospital on a short assignment consulting with the plastic surgery department there. He had already given a lecture about new triage techniques for burns and the treatment with plastic surgery, impressing all who attended. Margo purposely chose not to attend. So Drake went to the ER to see her. Will the two of them use this opportunity to accept a second chance at claiming their love? Will they talk to each other about the truth of what happened and realize they need to be back together? Or will they stubbornly refuse to let go of the past and admit their own mistakes?

There is plenty of other drama and action going on, so grab your copy and get the details to see how their story resolves!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book for an honest opinion.

An enjoyable story of second chances not to be missed Merry Little Heartbreak by Stella Holt. It could be read as a standalone but it is better to read the previous books in the series to know some of the backstories. This book is fifth in the Legacy of the mcguire's series. I look forward to read more by this author.

MERRY LITTLE HEARTBREAK is the fifth instalment in Stella Holt’s contemporary, adult LEGACY OF THE MAGUIRES erotic, romance series. This is plastic surgeon Dr. Drake Maquire, and ER physician Margo Monroe’s story line. MERRY LITTLE HEARTBREAK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from omniscient third person perspectives (Margo and Drake) MERRY LITTLE HEARTBREAK follows the second chance romance and relationship between our story line couple. Margo Monroe and Drake Maguire were high school and college sweethearts but weeks before heading to UCLA medical school Margo broke off their relationship, breaking Drake’s heart in the process. Fast forward twelve years, Dr. Drake Maguire is a visiting plastic surgeon at Mercy Hospital in Alexandria Virginia where he will come face to face with his past in the guise of ER physician Margo Monroe. Margo wants nothing to do with the man she once loved, a man who continues to struggle with the how and why. Accepting a rotation in the emergency department, Drake will work side by side with the woman he still loves, hoping for a second chance at a happily ever after. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Margo and Drake, and the potential fall-out as Drake’s time in Virginia comes to a close.

The world building focuses on the acrimonious relationship, and fall-out between two people who has planned their future together but something went wrong, and Margo refused to move, leaving Drake Maguire heart broken and dejected.

The relationship between Margo and Drake is one of second chances; a rekindling romance in which Drake is hoping for a another chance but Margo is quick to blame Drake for everything that went wrong. As our couple work together in the hospital ER, Drake will quickly discover that everything is not as it had appeared to be. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful secondary and supporting characters include several medical personnel, as well as Drake’s parents, and his brother Ian, and Margo’s sister Izzy.

MERRY LITTLE HEARTBREAK is a story of misunderstanding and miscommunication, love and loss, second chances and happily ever after. The premise is inviting and imaginative; the characters are animated and spirited but Margo was difficult to like in the early pages; the romance is moving and tender.

Merry Little Heartbreak is the 5th book in Stella Holt’s fabulous series, Legacy of the Maguires. I was fortunate to receive an arc from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. This book is a second chance love story and the main character returns home to Virginia after being away for ten years. The featured Maguire is Drake, who is a cousin to the other Maguires we met in the prior books. Drake is a plastic surgeon who works at a prestigious private practice in Los Angeles. He has come home for a temporary assignment before Christmas and discovers his ex, the one who got away, works at the hospital as an ER attending physician. Margo Monroe has been at Mercy Hospital since she graduated from medical school.

Drake believed Margo no longer loved him when she changed her plans to go to UCLA medical school with him as they planned. She stayed in Virginia and went locally. Then he had heard she was dating his brother and so he stayed away. Margo didn’t tell Drake her reasons for not going to California with him but believed he chose UCLA over her. He asked to work in the ER as well as in the Plastics suite because he was no longer challenged in Plastics. He was thinking about changing specialties. He also liked the idea of working with Margo in the ER. After seeing Margo he realized that he wants to try and get a second chance on their great love. Margo is still upset because she believes he threw her away for LA and will return there once his temporary assignment is over. However, she still loves him. Her contract is up in a few months and she’s not sure what she wants to do as she’s getting burned out from so long as an ER doctor. Her supervisor has told her they want her to convince Drake to transfer there and work in Plastics.

I enjoy holiday books and Stella has incorporated Margo and Drakes shared love of Christmas into the story. There’s lots of angst and old love between the couple. There’s also some drama with other doctors and Drake’s brother. I loved the story as second chance romances are a favorite genre of mine. The misunderstandings between the couple and lost years together are sad but the future is bright for them. They are genuine people and their interactions with the others in the story are enjoyable. I am so glad there is another book in the series as I was worried this was the end. Another 5 star book from Stella Holt!

Merry Little Heartbreak ~Legacy of the Maguires #5 by Stella Holt.

PUBLISHER DESCRIPTION
This year, they’re unwrapping the truth for Christmas…

Stella is a new author to me, and I have not read the first four books previous this this one. If they are as good as this, then I do intend to purchase them.
Merry Little Heartbreak is a brilliant story that brings two doctors back together again after 10 years apart. Both were high school and college sweethearts who intended to go to the same uni until circumstances changed for one of them, and each blamed the other for the breakup.
The chemistry between Drake and Margo was so hot, and still there after the years of separation, but first they had to confront many things that had happened.
I believe this book needs to be purchased to find out the whole story, as my words cannot do the justice it deserves.
Merry Little Heartbreak has been written brilliantly, with wonderful characters that you will fall in love with. The storyline is believable and when reading it feels so real. I was drawn in from the beginning till the end and I highly recommend this book to all.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Great world-building, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Original, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, and Wonderful characters

Merry Little Heartbreak is the fifth book in the Legacy of the Maguires series.  I think you can easily read this book as a standalone but when there are stories of the other characters within the series.  I want to know as much as I can about what is going on.

Margo Monroe and Drake Maguire’s story is told.  Theirs is a second chance romance.

Margo and Drake were supposed to go to medical school together but instead they broke up.  Now Drake is moving back to Virginia and is working in the same hospital as Margo, his ex-girlfriend.

She is feeling old, now 33 and feels she is running out of time for romance and a family.  There were a bunch of he said, she said.  They both blamed each other for breaking up prior to leaving for med school.  Instead, it was a huge misunderstanding.

I enjoyed reading Margo and Drake’s story.  They still can’t resist each other, and I love that.  Even Margo who seems to hold the most anger to their breakup.

I am looking forward to reading more books by Stella Holt.  Book #6 My Favorite Mistake is coming next!  Woohoo! I am looking forward to reading it!

When this book was announced as the fifth book of the Legacy of the Maguires series, I was so excited - especially since it's a holiday romance! This story revolves around Drake Maguire and Margo - two kindred souls apart for over ten years after a bad breakup. Drake returns home after being away for so long, and bumps heads with his ex. Seeing Drake was the last thing that Margo expected, especially seeing him at her place of work - the hospital. I will say the hospital setting was a nice bonus, and I appreciated the scenes between the two in this setting.

As expected, there is some tension, angst, and feelings of regret. Drake and Margo can't resist their feelings and wonder if they can let go of the past and start over with something new. This book was a breath of fresh air, and I really enjoyed it! I also liked seeing a few of the secondary characters - now hoping to see their stories in the near future. Overall, this was a good book, and I will highly recommend it to fans of second-chance workplace romances!

Stella Holt was new to me with her debut novel, Last First Kiss, the beginning of her Legacy of the Maguires series. I’m always willing to take a chance on a new or new-to-me author because you never know when you’ll find your next favorite. I was delighted by it, which led to a healthy desire to see where the next book took me. Spoiler alert: I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them all. While Merry Little Heartbreak is a standalone title, I highly recommend all of the books in the Maguire series because they are very entertaining. Needless to say, I’m a Stella Holt fan now.

I’m a sucker for a solid second-chance romance, and Drake and Margo’s story was just that. These two are opposites in almost every way (except for their levels of stubbornness), which led to some significant issues, causing their breakup when they were younger and setting up the enemies-to-lovers feel as the story begins. Throw in some unsubstantiated gossip, a bit of holiday magic, a few steamy scenes, and typical Maguire family drama, and you have a highly engaging read.

Teenage sweethearts, with dreams to follow
Breaking up left both of them hollow.
They've not seen each other for a decade or so
But now he's back, when will he again go?

Drake's now a plastic surgeon with great repute
But he's bored by it all, he can't dispute.
Visiting the local hospital he's pleased to discover
In ER the lead doctor is his ex-lover!

Margo Monroe can't believe her eyes
When Drake Maguire she first spies.
He left her behind all those years gone by
She'll avoid him all she can - or at least she'll try.

A story where their different view of their past
Need airing to each other at last.
The mutual attraction is still there for these two
But will they succumb or are they all through?

With family secrets and lots more besides,
They both have things they'd prefer to hide.
For opening up will make them vulnerable once more
And it was so hurtful breaking up before.

As Christmas comes and the festivities start
Will it help them heal each other's heart?
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

A reunion long overdue.

Ten years have passed since Margo and Drake have seen each other. During those years, they both made a name for themselves, in their chosen medical fields, on opposites sides of the country. Gone, but not forgotten. But now that Drake is back in town and they are working together in the ER at Mercy Hospital, can they make up for lost time? Or has too much time passed for a second chance?

I couldn’t get enough of this book. I enjoyed how Margo kept trying to brush off Drake even though she was still in love with him. I liked how Drake wouldn’t give up on Margo. He loved her so much that he was willing to change his life for her. I enjoyed everything about this book, the characters, the plot, the setting and even the emotional parts. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance book.

Drake Maguire and Margo Monroe thought they had their happily ever after when in medical school. Margo pushed Drake to UCLA where he had a scholarship to further his training and she moved back to her hometown to train at Mercy Hospital. Now ten years later, Drake no longer finds being ‘the’ plastic surgeon for the rich and famous fulfilling and is searching for a change in his medical career. Drake, a consultant for Plastic Surgery at Mercy, learns his mother his cancer while visiting his parents and makes plans to stay in Virginia and joins the ER department where Margo is working. Drake sees this as a second chance and pursues Margo relentlessly determined to find out why she pushed him away. As usual, Ms. Holt weaves a great story to keep us reaching for their HEA. Merry Little Heartbreak by Stella Holt is the fifth book in the Legacy of the Maguires Series. A second chance/ renewed romance between Drake Maguire and his college ex-girlfriend. From California back to Virginia, Drake has returned working at the hospital ER of his ex, Margo Monroe. Drake is a cousin of the first group of Maguires so the series is continuing so fans will be excited.

Two characters that are likable but have the breakup when younger to work through. Drama, romance and the holidays are all rolled into one story. For a different type of Christmas story be sure to read Merry Little Heartbreak.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We are back with another Maguire relative, this time the story belonging to successful plastic surgeon Drake Maguire. Ten years ago he left Margo Monroe behind to pursue college and a career in LA. At least that’s the way Margo sees it, while Drake remembers it as Margo breaking up with him.
Now that he’s back in town so he can be near his family after a family scare, they end up working together.
As the past is cleared, can they finally find their HEA or will Drake go back to LA leaving her behind once again?
This was a delightful addition to the series. Looking forward to the next story in the series.

Stella Holt is a new-to-me author. She tells a great story. They are hella fun! Drake and Margo have history, a long history, a complicated history. They were high school sweethearts (although you don’t hear much about that) who had their futures planned. Together. Until they weren’t together anymore. Drake opted to head to UCLA, and Margo stayed in VA to attend a local medical school. Fast forward ten years and dive into their present.

Merry Little Heartbreak is book five in the Legacy of the Maguires series. I did not read previous books in the series, and I was never at a loss. This book is a holiday story, but only in the sense that it is set during the Christmas season. Now that I’ve had a taste of the Maguires, you can bet I’ll be starting the entire series!

This is a story loosely connected to the Maguire series. It stars the families cousin, Drake, who is in town visiting family. He is a doctor and he ends up working at Mercy Hospital which is where he runs into his ex and they end up working together.

This was a fantastic story and so romantic. I really enjoyed getting to know Drake, Dalton and Margo and Ian. Next up is Ian and I cannot wait for his story.

If you love second chance romances, a romance while at work and doctor romance then you will love this story.

I LOVED this book! Drake and Margo were each other's first love, but when Drake left to go to the medical school he always dreamed of attending across the country, Margo dumped him and went to the med school closest to their town. Now Dr. Drake is a famous plastic surgeon who is back in their hometown and pitching in at the local hospital. Margo has been moving up the ranks there, and isn't happy to see her former lover and now golden boy doctor in her hospital! The two former lovers have to drop their walls, address misunderstandings, and open their hearts to love again. It's a Code Red for love!

Ooh, Drake and Margo are so stubborn. Neither one of them wanted to admit just how much they still cared for each other. It made for some angsty moments. Ones that were intense. It was a won't they just kiss already.

I do agree with Margo through that it was Drake's fault that they drafted apart and broke up years ago. Yet, there is no cheating while they were on a break. Ross and Rachel from Friends reference here.

When they both finally admitted they feelings and became intimate, the heat was brought. So glad that these two made up.

In Merry Little Heartbreak we met Drake, a Maguire cousin and doctor, as he returns home for the first time in 10 years. We also meet his “one that got away” Margo.

This was an entertaining read in the vein of the other Legacy books. I found myself liking both Drake and Margo and even appreciated the decade of miscommunication between them. These two definitely make a case for right person, wrong time.

Add in a bit of family drama, work drama, and oh gosh please don’t make the same mistake twice and you have an easy read that hits the spot.

Drake and Margo were college sweethearts who had planned to go to medical school together in California. When things don't work out for Margo she breaks up with him. He goes to Cali and she stay local. Now many years later he is in her hospital giving a pitch. He is a fancy LA plastic surgeon and she is an ER doctor. She doesn't have time to be distracted by her old flame. He wants to know why she threw him away. When she finally tells him the whole story about why she couldn't go with him, will it be enough? Can she forgive him for leaving her behind and not fighting for them? Good read.

What a great addition to this series. Margo and Drake were being a second chance at love. The chemistry between them is hot! The problem is are Margo and Drake going to act on it or are they going to hold on to the past. Their story was an entertaining read that kept me turning the pages from start to finish. I look forward to reading more by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a terrific story about a love lost and a love found! Parting ways before medical school Drake and Margo are reunited 10 years later. Will he stay or go back to LA? Will she finally tell him the truth about their earlier split? Will love reunite them? You’ll have to read this story mixed in with the stress of busy ER medicine. I hope that Stella can find a lot more Maguires to write about because the first 5 have been a home run.

The Legacy of the Maguires continues with cousin Drake and his first love lost, Margo. A story of love lost, misunderstandings, forgiveness. I really enjoyed this couple and their journey back together. Secondary characters were also interesting and hope there are stories for Dalton and Ian. There’s tension, angst, and hot chemistry; all set around the Christmas season. Recommend this read as well as the previous books in the series.

There was some miscommunications when Margo and Drake planned to go to medical school together but she choose to stay closer to home while he moved to LosAngeles. When he comes home for the holidays they work the same ER and as much as she tries to avoid him he keeps popping up. Can these two get a second chance at the relationship they always planned?.

This is a wonderful second chance romance. It was sweet and heartfelt. I really enjoyed Drake and Margo's characters. You could really feel how much these two loved each other & the chemistry between them. There was just enough conflict to keep things interesting but these two were soulmates. It's a charming, enjoyable and entertaining read.

This book was so much fun! It definitely got me into the holiday season! This was my first Stella Holt book and definitely won’t be my last! I love this well written, second chance romance. It had so much heart and gave me all the feels. The conflict was good to keep me reading until the end! Drake and Margo were a great couple. I very much enjoyed reading their journey back to each other. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

A new Maguires book is out and that meant putting a pause on other books to read theirs. Stella always writes about her characters so that I get to know them. Drake and Margo met again after years apart and feelings over their breakup was still hurting. That Drake is now working with Margo, everything that they put aside is now back front and center. I loved this book and Drake and Margo’s romance.

A second chance is Drake’s aim when he reconnects with Margo. Sparks fly all over the place but there is a well of hurt from their past in Margo’s heart. Drake is persistent in pursuing her and as she faces her feelings, there is much to gain or lose.

I loved this one. Drake and Margo were both so determined in their individual goals (Drake to spend more time with Margo to find out why they ended and Margo was determined not to fall for him again.) I loved the hospital setting and how well they worked together. This one can be read as a standalone but I definitely recommend the others in this fab series.
