At the height of vast technological advancements, the human race chose to ignore the costs of controlling the fragile environment they had destroyed. Mark Simon and his father, the brilliant engineer John Simon, would fail to stop what was to come. And so, the world would end, much like it had begun, catastrophically, and as a result of foreseen consequences. But a remnant of humanity would survive. Against all odds, and evolved in the cauldron of extreme hardships and war, humanity would hang on to become the best version of themselves, ten generations later. The descendants of Mark Simon, the three brother’s Simone, would lead the charge to balance the cost of survival with a rediscovered technology, and accomplish what their ancestors could not. Meanwhile, the ArchAngel Host would be tested beyond anything they had witnessed before. They would be forced to give truth to the coming conflict, and horrors of which they would never be able to recover.

A song of faith and devotion and a light to hold the darkness back. A strong voice to lead and a strong arm to lift the fallen and hold the goal high in the minds of the faithful. Powerful hands to mold the hearts and minds, true fingers pointing the only real destination. A struggle between the anointed and the faithless. The fight for truth and an end to deceit and false promises. An Ending and a Beginning.
A strong storyline leading powerful characters to an unforeseen ending. Everything you want and need in a tale of faith and devotion. A really powerful and surprising read!
With his Archangel Missions, Joshua Loyd Fox introduces us to a world outside of our own that directly impacts and shapes it. You’ll find yourself entertained and studying the world he creates to better understand your own. I love 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Giver, and The Walking Dead. It feels like the author wrote this book specifically for me. That’s how invested I was from cover to cover. You can tell how knowledgeable Fox is in the fields touched upon in this book. He’s passionate about them and clearly a passionate storyteller.
To Build a Tower is my favorite book - so far - in the ArchAngel Missions series.
The world is fast destroying itself - or rather, humans are fast destroying their world. To save the planet and the future of humanity, scientists create an AI system which, as AIs are wont to do, deviates from its original assignment and takes matters into its own hands, creating a never-ending winter and driving the few remnants of humanity which have survived into hiding, underground.
Three hundred years later, a race of humans grown accustomed to the dark emerge into the light.
And then all hell breaks loose.
Imagine an apocalyptic thriller in which the new version of the world feels more like a fantasy realm. Imagine the struggles and battles of a futuristic society meets a bit of Tolkien. That's what To Build a Tower felt like to me.
I was utterly enthralled with this one, reading it all in two hours-long sessions, eager to find out what happened next, and next, and next. And then the ending came, and I was literally talking out loud to the book: "Wait, WHAT?!?" "No, don't do it!" "Are you serious?"
Zooming in up close and personal, Fox gives us family dynamics, romance, and friendships that feel incredibly real; these characters will welcome you in and make you a part of their tribe.
At the same time, arching over the whole tale is the greater storyline of the series itself, told in brief flashes featuring the ArchAngels, who are obviously up to some shady stuff, shaping (playing with) the human race to serve in an ultimate battle later in the series.
Once again, Joshua Loyd Fox has given us action and emotion and endearing characters in a tale of truly epic proportions.
The third book in this series was one I had to reread again twice. It was that good. It has a lot of twists and turns but it was worth it. I absolutely loved and would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a read a great book. The author is very talented and I can’t wait for the next book.
Buckled up for another round in this series, and dove into the third one!
I actually listened to it twice, I really enjoyed this weird one.
I also really really liked the cover and cover art, I am just a sucker for art that has so much details put into it.
I cheated and looked ahead at the other covers, I can say this is my favorite.
I am also very impressed, so far Josh has rolled out a Romatasy, a serial killer thriller, and now a sci-fi installment for a single series, and it WORKS?? Its not contrived and I'm impressed by the range if that makes sense.
Authors dabble in other categories all the time, but one cohesive series, that each book is different, wild, and very cool.
Back to the book, sometimes I ramble.
This was Scifi-fantasy to me, but take that with a grain, lol
Reading this I had so many thoughts, I wasn't sure where we would end up, but between the synopsis, and the title "To Build a Tower" I thought, mmhm the pride of man and a little wink to the Tower of Bable? ( not the exact same, but pride, building, and then the fall , and while in that story humanity wasn't wiped, they did end up making things harder on themselves , when no one spoke the same language anymore and could no longer work together..
So that's what got me into that head space. Isn't that what really caused this whole utter destruction in the first place? Not the trying to make things better, but the trying to control everything, the pride of man, and the price that usual more than just that person pays, and in this one, boy the whole world paid.
But like always in humans, a small group survived, and that to me, as one of those people who I may seem pessimistic but honestly just Jaded by humanity, I will ALWAYS believe the will to live survives in some of us, we might be awful, wonderful, terrible , beautiful garbage creatures, but we are stubborn.
I'm going to leave you with this, and the fact, I have to find out what happens next, hell, I cannot wait to find out the ending of the whole series, what is going to happen..
Exceptional Writing, A decent story with an awesome ending.
The story gives you a lot to chew on, at first. I personally feel that there was a need to have a little bit more character development, and back story, but the story was told, and told well. J.L. Fox keeps you wanting to know what will come next. I am so happy to have an acquaintance that writes, and does so well. I can only hope the remainder of this series is as great as the the first two books in the series. Very wonderfully written and engaging.
