Weird Blood

Rate this book
Was confessing your love for your vampire boss a mistake?

Josephine Pajimula supposed she would advise against it. Especially if you were wearing a cupcake sweater. The recently designated Drone survived the haunting of Rosalee Castle, but an unsettling revelation from Eadwulf presents Josephine with the possibility that she might not be so human after all.

Unfortunately, there’s little time to adjust to the recent development. When an invitation to the biggest vampire social event of the season arrives, Josephine is unprepared. Dress fittings, dance lessons, and vampire etiquette leave Josephine in a tailspin. Or perhaps the increasing tension with her vampire master is finally catching up with her.

But vampires are not the only monsters to contend with… After an alarming encounter with a mysterious monster, Josephine finds help in an unlikely ally. While not exactly thrilled , Josephine is eager to learn as much as she can about the secrets of her manifesting abilities.

Will Josephine solve the mystery of her newly discovered identity? What intrigue awaits at the Masquerade? Is Josephine ready for the next step in her relationship with Eadwulf, or will a social blunder ruin his reputation? And why has Mister Jaffe suddenly become so… weird?

Weird Blood is the third book in the Odd Blood series, featuring diverse characters and creative expletives. It is a hybrid romance with cozy horror elements and lots of dark comedy. Continuing the story of a newly discovered demisexual main character and her relationship with a himbo vampire, this tale finally breaks the no spice streak.

Weird Blood was an absolute delight! I did not realise how much I missed these characters until I started this book 🥹 I love the cosy horrorness of this series, the quirks of imperfect monsters and our sweet and anxious FMC, Josephine. Kind of makes me want to wrap her in a blanket and all that 😂 Oh, and did I mention that there's a vampire masquerade ball in this book??

There's just something comforting about this series. I could hardly put this book down even though I wanted to take my time to savour it. I adore Josephie and Eadwulf so much, and I've come to appreciate and love the side characters as the series processes 🩷

I am however, still in disbelief of that ending! I need the next book like right now!!

Once again, Azalea Crowley stole my very heart. Everything about this book from the MLM shenanigans to the awkward learning to be sexy phase and the journey of self-discovery, this series will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't speak enough about how much everyone needs to read this series. If you like vampires, goofy family dynamics, that cozy horror that makes you nostalgic and yet, tingly, you'll want to devour these books.
I can't wait for the next one.

Just like the others in this series, Weird Blood is clever and laugh out loud funny, and also heartwarming and emotional, and also just the most immaculate cozy horror vibes. I love this series. I can’t wait for the final book… but I also don’t want it to ever end.

Azalea continues to write a story that is such a gift I cannot heap enough praise and love onto this series (and all of her stories). Azalea creates a perfect cozy space filled with nerdiness, queerness, neurodivergence, body diversity, racial and ethnic diversity with respect and thoughtfulness. It is clear she cares deeply about the diversity of the world around her and representing that in all aspects of her books, Weird Blood being no different. I greatly admire this quality in an author and it also helps that Azalea is a prodigious writer. I find it easy to fall into the characters thoughts, their actions very relatable and believable, the dialogue is realistic in the best ways. Every character feels like someone you could meet in the best and worst ways. I also personally love all the nerdy little easter eggs Azalea always hides and it's a true delight in my days to find them. If you are someone that is often left out of horror, romance, or monster books in general due to lack of trigger warnings you won't have that problem here as Azalea always makes the TWs readily available before and after purchase. A book and an author I can proudly stand by and say you won't regret reading. So if you like all the creatures that go bump in the night, endless clever humor and silly situations, romantic shenanigans, and excellent world building this is the series and book for you.

**I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my honest review.**

I had meant to read this much closer to Halloween but life and a reading slump got in my way. I'm happy to report that this was the perfect cure for my reading slump. I'm not a horror book fan but these are the perfect blend of cozy horror, found family, humor, and that dash of romance.

I love the way that these characters leap off the page. Each one, even the side characters are so dynamic. I also love that I never know what twist is going to happen in this series but they always make sense. I'm just like "hmmm I should have seen that coming but wow, I can't believe that just happened!"

Josephine's struggles with her sexuality is so darn relatable to me. Not being able to curb your mind running at 50,000 miles a minute when all you want is to get laid? I thought I was the only one.

Eadwulf is the best himbo vampire boyfriend a girl could have. Ana and Misha's dysfunctional way of showing they care makes me giggle. Norma keeps everyone on their toes!

That ending though! Loved it. I'm gonna be heartbroken when this series ends because its one of those series where the characters become your family and you don't want to miss out on their lives.

The third in what is swiftly becoming one of my favorite series, Weird Blood is a continuation of Josephine’s relationship with Eadwulf. This one starts out a little slower than the other two, taking time to build upon all of the big revelations from the end of Strange Blood. Josephine begins this book in a bit of a tailspin, understandably. I enjoyed the way her relationships grow and change throughout, and I’m looking forward to getting to know certain new characters in the next installment. The horror elements are stronger in this book, as well as the exploration of sexuality. Both topics are handled adroitly, as I have come to expect from Crowley. An excellent addition to the series!

This is my favorite book in the series yet. It was full of the quirky humor I've come to adore and also so heart-warming and entertaining. This is an all time favorite series for me and a definite annual comfort read.

Oh Keanu did I love this book! Laughed, gasped and threw the book down several times 😂

Definitely see myself in Josephine:
"I'm going to fret,"… "It's part of the package deal so you don't get to argue. I do what I want."

I adore this world and its vampires 🦇

I had such a lovely time with this. The prose is getting progressively less awkward and generally better with each book, I love the characters more all the time, and we get really interesting and fun plots aside from the romance as well, which is adorable.

I love my little autistic, ace witch and her vampire boyfriend. That's it, that's the review. Also, this book is really making me question whether im autistic or not. Probably am.

I continued with the Odd Blood Series this month by reading, Weird Blood. My feelings about this series as a whole has remained the same– it’s such a fun, unique, weirdly cool book series and I am just obsessed with them.Josephine is recovering from being possessed in book 2 and she is coming to terms with her feelings for Eadwulf. There is a masquerade ball for the Vampires coming up and Josephine has to learn all of the customs and dances. There is some tension and angst as Eadwulf is reaching her how to dance and I just love their dynamic. He is such a Himbo and hilarious.Josephine is a late bloomer and she has not been intimate with someone before, she is demisexual and Eadwulf is the first person she has developed feelings for to get to an intimate stage. There are the Ashley Witches that come in and I really loved how campy Azalea made them.If you love found family and like some quirky weird paranormal type books I really think this series is for you.

Absolutely adored the ace representation on this one. I enjoyed the progression of Eadwulf’s and Josephine’s relationship (love me a slow burn). The vibes were fall vibes. Misha the ghost remains to be my favorite character. This was such a fun read and I devoured it!

With Weird Blood Azalea delivers a story as solid as her first two books in this series. There is a lot happening in this book, but Azalea gives you that cozy, warm fuzzy feeling that is to authentic to her writing.

Josephine is dealing with a lot in this book. Not only did she tell her boss she loves him, she herself might also not be entirely human. A revelation she is definitely struggling with throughout the book. With an invitation to attend a vampire ball, Josephine is is thrown further into the world of monsters and the complexity of vampire society. Her days are filled with practicing for the ball, meeting up with old friends, and being concerned about her suddenly wailing weird looking cat.

We get to see a very different side of Ana, learn more about Norma's history, and attend a funeral. And it looks like Eadwulf also has some secrets to share with Josephine.

I laughed, I screamed, I cried.

Of course Azalea does not disappoint and stuns us with new revelations that will leave us with many, many questions.

I look forward to the fourth book in this series, but I don't think I'll ever be ready to say goodbye to these characters and their little found family

Not to be dramatic, but I would die for Josephine and Eadwulf. Josephine is such a great character because of how unique she is in her genre--a neurodivergent middle-aged woman instead of your (neuro)typical 19-21 year old protagonist. It was so nice to be able to see a neurodivergent character like me in a romance novel like this.

The entire concept of the series is also great--and I absolutely loved this installment 🥹🥹
