As fantastic as the YouTube channel. And due to the book format, can be digested slowly, much like the nutrients in the terrarium.

A great book for any houseplant enthusiasts! Lots of inspiration for DIY terrariums which are mixed throughout the book to break up the larger sections. I will definitely be revisiting the substrate recipes for various projects, as well as some of the smaller scale projects.

Some of the information in the latter section about plants was a bit fact-heavy - I'd have preferred more ideas/practical advice; however, there information in light ratings was really helpful and will definitely inform my future plant choices, inside and outside of glass!

I've bumped it up to 5 stars as Ben's passion comes through on every page, and is a great book for both beginners and more experienced plant enthusiasts. There's something in this book for everyone, and I hope further books come out to make a little series!

I like Ben's videos on YouTube and his book looked like a must have as I get into terrariums for the first time.

I feel like there were spots that seemed to be missing pictures - plus I think having more pictures in general would have been nice. I wish there was a picture for each plant and cleanup crew critter he described.

I also felt like some of the information wasn't needed and acted too much as filler. Perhaps it just wasn't information that I needed and seemed common sense when I read it.

Overall, it was a good read with some helpful information! I will use it to reference back as I build my first few terrariums.

LOVED this book - it's part how-to, part compendium/reference, part photobook, part memoir that comes together seamlessly. Written in a fun and conversational way that's easy to understand.

Newell’s book is about 97% what I wanted it to be. While Newell lists many ideal plants, custodians, and substrate, the book only supports the descriptions with pictures for less than a third of the mentioned species, which causes unnecessary visits to your phone or computer, interrupting what is otherwise an excellent guide for everything you need to create your terrariums.

I applaud Newell’s focus on sustainability and ethical acquirement of plants and custodians and the excellent outlining of the most suitable materials and plants. I look forward to beginning to build my tiny worlds.

There was a tonnnn of good information in this book, and it was interestingly written. The photots were super cool! I only wish that there had been a few more projects in the book, rather than a breakdown of multiple different plants within multiple genera, but that's just me.

So much great information! I had no idea how complicated a terrarium could be. I am planning a tiny terrarium program for teens at the library, but now thinking will end up being more fairy garden with a live plant.
